Abstract The current strategies for building 2D organic-inorganic heterojunctions involve mostly wet-chemistry processes or exfoliation and transfer, leading to interface contaminations, poor crystallizing, or limited size. Here we show a bottom-up procedure to fabricate 2D large-scale heterostructure with clean interface and highly-crystalline sheets. As a prototypical example, a well-ordered hydrogen-bonded organic framework is self-assembled on the highly-oriented-pyrolytic-graphite substrate. The organic framework adopts a honeycomb lattice with faulted/unfaulted halves in a unit cell, resemble to molecular “graphene”. Interestingly, the topmost layer of substrate is self-lifted by organic framework via strong interlayer coupling, to form effectively a floating organic framework/graphene heterostructure. The individual layer of heterostructure inherits its intrinsic property, exhibiting distinct Dirac bands of graphene and narrow bands of organic framework. Our results demonstrate a promising approach to fabricate 2D organic-inorganic heterostructure with large-scale uniformity and highly-crystalline via the self-lifting effect, which is generally applicable to most of van der Waals materials.

The cooling of a macroscopic mechanical oscillator to its quantum ground state is an important step for achieving coherent control over mechanical quantum states. Here, we theoretically study the cooling of a rotating mirror in a Laguerre–Gaussian (L-G) cavity optorotational system with a nonlinear cross-Kerr (CK) interaction. We discuss the effects of the nonlinear CK coupling strength, the cavity detuning, the power of the input Gaussian beam, the topological charge (TC) of the L-G cavity mode, the mass of the rotating mirror, and the cavity length on the cooling of the rotating mirror. We find that it is only possible to realize the improvement in the cooling of the rotating mirror by the nonlinear CK interaction when the cavity detuning is less than the mechanical frequency. Compared to the case without the nonlinear CK interaction, we find that the cooling of the rotating mirror can be improved by the nonlinear CK interaction at lower laser powers, smaller TCs of the L-G cavity mode, larger masses of a rotating mirror, and longer optorotational cavities. We show that the cooling of the rotating mirror can be enhanced by the nonlinear CK interaction by a factor of about 23.3 compared to that without the nonlinear CK interaction.

We study the problem of two harmonically trapped atoms in the presence of spin-orbital-angular-momentum (SOAM) coupling. The two-body energy spectrum is numerically calculated by utilizing the exact diagonalization method. We analyze how the degeneracy of energy levels is lifted under the interplay between the interatomic interaction and SOAM coupling. The exact numerical results show excellent agreement with that of perturbation theory in the weak-interaction limit as well as that in the absence of SOAM coupling. The properties of correlations between the two atoms are also discussed with respect to the interaction strength. The findings in this paper may provide valuable insights into few-body physics subjected to SOAM coupling and the possible experimental detection of spectrum functions in many-body systems, such as radiofrequency spectroscopy.

Quantum entanglement is essential in performing many quantum information tasks. Here, we theoretically investigate the stationary entanglement between a Laguerre–Gaussian (LG) cavity field and a rotating end mirror in an LG-cavity optorotational system with a nonlinear cross-Kerr (CK) interaction and a degenerate optical parametric amplifier (OPA). We calculate the logarithmic negativity of the system to quantify the stationary entanglement. We examine the influence of various system parameters such as the cavity detuning, the strength of the nonlinear CK interaction, the parametric gain and phase of the OPA, the power of the input Gaussian laser, the topological charge of the LG-cavity field, the mass of the rotating end mirror, and the ambient temperature on the stationary entanglement. Under the combined effect of the nonlinear CK interaction and the OPA, we find that the stationary entanglement can be substantially enhanced at lower Gaussian laser powers, smaller topological charges of the LG-cavity field, and larger masses of the rotating end mirror. We show that the combination of the nonlinear CK interaction and the OPA can make the stationary entanglement more robust against the ambient temperature.

Phonon blockade is an important quantum effect for revealing the quantum behaviors of mechanical systems. For a nitrogen-vacancy center spin strongly coupled to a mechanical resonator via the second-order magnetic gradient, we show that the qubit driving can lead to the implementation of the two-phonon blockade, while the usual mechanical driving only allows for the appearance of a single-phonon blockade. As a signature, we investigate three-phonon antibunching with a simultaneous two-phonon bunching process by numerically calculating the second-order and third-order correlation functions. We also analyze in detail the influence of the system parameters (including the qubit driving strength, the dephasing rate of the qubit, as well as the thermal phonon number) on the quality of the two-phonon blockade effect. Our work provides an alternative method for extending the concept of a phonon blockade from a single phonon to multiphonon. It is of direct relevance for the engineering of multiphonon quantum coherent devices and thus has potential applications in quantum information processing.

We present an alternative scheme to generate genuine tripartite entanglement and steering among one photon and two magnons in a cavity magnonical system, where two yttrium iron garnet spheres are respectively placed inside two microwave cavities driven by a two-mode squeezed field and subjected to homodyne-measurement feedback. It is found that quantum feedback on two cavities plays a crucial role in enhancing quantum correlations of photons and magnons. In the absence of measurement feedback, only bipartite entanglement between two magnons is existent. In contrast, when the continuous measurement feedback is present, two magnons are strongly entangled and magnon–photon entanglement also appears. More importantly, the stable genuine magnon–photon–magnon tripartite entanglement and steering could be obtained based on the homodyne-measurement feedback on two microwave cavities, which are robust against the thermal fluctuations. The work we present provides a feasible way to manipulate the multipartite quantum correlations including entanglement and steering in hybrid quantum systems.

We present a scheme to realize quantum thermal transistor effects in a continuous-variable electromechanical system including two microwave cavities and one mechanical oscillator. The thermal noise fluxes between the quantum system and its baths are evaluated by quantum master equation. It is shown that the thermal noise flux at one microwave cavity as an emitter can be dissipated into the other as a collector by combining the heating Stokes and cooling anti-Stokes processes. The indirect energy transfers between the two microwave modes can be significantly amplified by small energy changes at the mechanical oscillator as the base. The extremely high amplification depends sensitively on the detunings of the two microwave modes, which provides a new tool for precision measurements. This study opens the door for constructing quantum thermal transistors using various continuous-variable systems and is well accessible based on current experimental techniques.

Quantum entanglement in macroscopic systems plays an important role in quantum information processing. Here, we show that the steady-state entanglement between the two cavity modes in the macroscopic Laguerre–Gaussian (L–G) cavity optorotating system can be enhanced by placing a degenerate optical parametric amplifier (OPA) inside the cavity. The two L–G cavity modes are coupled to the same rotating mirror and are respectively driven at the red and blue mechanical sidebands. We use the logarithmic negativity to quantify the steady-state entanglement between the two cavity modes. We study the influences of the nonlinear gain and phase of the OPA, the temperature of the environment, and the angular momentums of the two cavity modes on the entanglement between the two cavity modes. In the cryogenic environment temperatures, when the angular momentums of the two cavity modes are identical, the enhancement of the entanglement between the two cavity modes by the OPA is the most significant.

Quantum entanglement will play an important role in future quantum technologies. Here, we theoretically study the steady-state entanglement between a cavity field and a macroscopic rotating mirror in a Laguerre–Gaussian-(LG)-cavity optomechanical system with cross-Kerr nonlinearity. Logarithmic negativity is used to quantify the steady-state entanglement between the cavity and mechanical modes. We analyze the impacts of the cross-Kerr coupling strength, the cavity detuning, the input laser power, the topological charge of the LG-cavity mode, and the temperature of the environment on the steady-state optomechanical entanglement. We find that cross-Kerr nonlinearity can significantly enhance steady-state optomechanical entanglement and make steady-state optomechanical entanglement more robust against the temperature of the thermal environment.

We theoretically investigate the ground-state cooling and macroscopic quantum coherence of the mechanical motion in a hybrid optomechanical system with a movable cavity wall and a nearby oscillation nanosphere. In the study, the vacuum effect is used to realize a direct coupling between the movable cavity wall and the oscillation nanosphere, which plays a role in the energy transfer channel between them. We find that when the Casimir force between the mechanical oscillators is included, the ground-state cooling and the macroscopic quantum coherence of the oscillation nanosphere can be realized in a certain range of effective detuning and driving power. We discuss in detail the dependence of the quantum properties on the amplitude of Casimir force, the driving power, the optical effective detuning and the oscillation frequency of the movable mirror. The results suggest that the quantum phenomenon of a single nanosphere can be manipulated by coupling an optomechanical cavity to the nanosphere and therefore has a potential application in quantum optics and the utilization of vacuum force.

We investigate the cooling phenomenon of a mechanical oscillator in a double-coupled cavity optomechanical system. Our model includes two single-mode optical cavities. The left cavity is an optomechanical system with an optical parametric amplifier, and the right cavity is a standard optical cavity. The two optical cavities couple with each other by exchanging photons. The optomechanical system is effectively driven by an input laser field. By solving the linear quantum Langevin equation of the system under a steady-state condition, we can obtain the position fluctuation spectrum and momentum fluctuation spectrum of the mechanical oscillator, and then, the expression of its effective temperature is obtained. Through numerical analysis, we find the change in the effective temperature of the mechanical oscillator under different physical parameters. The results show that the cooling of the mechanical oscillator can be significantly improved in the presence of optical parameter amplification and adjustment of optical cavity parameters. Our cooling solutions have potential applications for the preparation of nonclassical states of mechanical oscillators, high-precision measurements, and quantum information processing.

In this study, we investigated the properties of entanglement of an optomechanical system including two mechanical oscillators, where two mechanical oscillators are coupled with the cavity field in different coupling modes: the interaction between one mechanical oscillator and cavity field is first-order coupling, and the interaction between the other and the cavity field is quadratic coupling. On the one hand, the entanglement between two mechanical oscillators is studied. The influence of the frequency of the cavity field, the mass of mechanical oscillators, and the temperature of mechanical oscillators on the entanglement between two mechanical oscillators are investigated. On the other hand, for the given parameters of the system, we also obtained the entanglement between the cavity field and the mechanical oscillator that has a quadratic coupling. Compared with the entanglement between microscopic particles, the stable macroscopic quantum entanglement between two mechanical oscillators has the characteristics of long existence life and can be reused, and it also plays an important role in quantum information processing and quantum network construction.

In this paper, we studied the optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) in a cavity optomechanical system containing a cubic nonlinear oscillator. In our system, a partially transparent, dielectric membrane was placed in the middle of the F-P cavity. Due to the partial transmission and reflective property of the membrane, the membrane was combined with both the mirrors on the left and right sides to form two cavities. When the system was driven by two coupling fields, we calculated the quantum fluctuation of the optomechanical system operators and showed the response of the cavity optomechanical system to the probe field. We found that the cubic nonlinearity led to a shift of the OMIT window, which moved towards a frequency less than the resonance frequency, and the absorption peak became significantly asymmetrical when OMIT appeared. The shift of the OMIT dip provided a method to detect the nonlinear effects of the system due to the existence of cubic anharmonic potential.

We propose theoretically a nonlinear optomechanical system with a suspended graphene sheet, a single atom and a degenerate optical parametric amplifier to explore the ground-state cooling of the graphene oscillator and the steady-state thermophonon flux flowing from the thermal bath of the graphene oscillator into the optomechanical system. We find that the cooling properties of the graphene oscillator and the magnitude of thermophonon flux can be controlled flexibly by changing the vacuum coupling strength between the trapped atom and the nearby graphene sheet. In particular, the maximum thermophonon flux always corresponds to the minimum effective phonon number of the graphene sheet, which attributes to the optimal transfer of thermal noise energy at the optimal cavity field detuning. We also investigate in detail the influence of the parametric gain, the pump phase, the oscillating frequency, the position of the atom and the temperature on the cooling and the thermophonon flux. The results obtained here have potential applications in evaluating thermal noise energy transport and preparation of functional thermal devices.

A quantum battery consisting of an ensemble two-level atom is investigated. The battery is charged simultaneously by a harmonic field and an electrostatic field. The results show that the hybrid charging is superior to the previous case of only harmonic field charging in terms of battery capacity and charging power, regardless of whether the interaction between atoms is considered or not. In addition, the repulsive interaction between atoms will increase the battery capacity and charging power, while the attractive interaction between atoms will reduce the battery capacity and discharge power.

We study the cooling of a rotating mirror coupled to a Laguerre–Gaussian (L–G) cavity mode, which is assisted by an optical parametric amplifier (OPA). It is shown that the presence of the OPA can significantly lower the temperature of the rotating mirror, which is very critical in the application of quantum physics. We also find that the increase in angular momentum has an influence on the cooling of the rotating mirror. Our results may provide a potential application in the determination of the orbital angular momentum of light fields and precision measurement.

In this paper, the optical nonreciprocal phenomena in double optomechanical systems with quadratic coupling are studied. Our model belongs to an optomechanical system in which three coupling modes coexist, that is, the two cavity fields are coupled with the mechanical oscillator at the same time and the couplings are in the form of quadratic interactions. In addition, there is a linear coupling mode between the two cavity fields. In the entire system, each cavity field is effectively coupled by a control field and a probe field simultaneously. The expression of the transmission coefficient of the probe field is obtained by solving the dynamic evolution equation satisfied by the system. Using numerical analysis, we analyze the change in transmission coefficient of the probe field under the conditions of different physical parameters. The results show that we can realize optical nonreciprocal transmission in this system. Appropriate choices about physical parameters can achieve perfect nonreciprocity. Our theoretical scheme to realize optical nonreciprocal transmission in a double optomechanical system provides a theoretical basis for optical circulators, cyclic amplifiers and directional amplifiers.

We propose a scheme to implement the phonon antibunching and phonon blockade in a circuit quantum acoustodynamical system containing two surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonators coupled to a superconducting qubit. In the cases of driving only one SAW resonator and two SAW resonators, we investigate the phonon statistics by numerically calculating the second-order correlation function. It is found that, when only one SAW cavity is resonantly driven, the phonon antibunching effect can be achieved even when the qubit–phonon coupling strength is smaller than the decay rates of acoustic cavities. This result physically originates from the quantum interference between super-Poissonian statistics and Poissonian statistics of phonons. In particular, when the two SAW resonators are simultaneously driven under the mechanical resonant condition, the phonon antibunching effect can be significantly enhanced, which ultimately allows for the generation of a phonon blockade. Moreover, the obtained phonon blockade can be optimized by regulating the intensity ratio of the two SAW driving fields. In addition, we also discuss in detail the effect of system parameters on the phonon statistics. Our work provides an alternative way for manipulating and controlling the nonclassical effects of SAW phonons. It may inspire the engineering of new SAW-based phonon devices and extend their applications in quantum information processing.

Cooling of a macroscopic mechanical resonator to extremely low temperatures is a necessary condition to observe a variety of macroscopic quantum phenomena. Here, we study the stochastic feedback cooling of a mechanical resonator in an optomechanical system with a degenerate optical parametric amplifier (OPA). In the bad-cavity limit, we find that the OPA can enhance the cooling of the movable mirror in the stochastic feedback cooling scheme. The movable mirror can be cooled from 132 mK to 0.033 mK, which is lower than that without the OPA by a factor of about 5.

We propose a scheme to realize the two-phonon blockade effect in a quadratically coupled optomechanical system. We consider the case that the optical cavity is simultaneously driven by a strong pumping field and a weak driving field. By strongly driving the optical cavity, the nonlinear interaction between the optical mode and the mechanical resonator can be significantly enhanced and an effective second-order nonlinearity between photons and phonons is induced. Based on this effectively strong nonlinearity, the two-phonon blockade effect can be achieved when a weak driving field is applied into the optical cavity. By contrast, we study the case of weakly driving the mechanical resonator. In this case, the single-phonon blockade is generated, while the two-phonon blockade cannot be observed. By numerically calculating the second-order and third-order correlation function, we investigate the statistical characteristics of phonons. In addition, we also study the influence of the thermal noise on the achieved two-phonon blockade effect. Our work provides an alternative approach for implementing multiphonon blockade and has potential applications in quantum information processing.

In this paper, the phenomenon of the optical bistability of a cavity field is theoretically investigated in an optomechanical system containing an N-type atomic ensemble. In this hybrid optomechanical system, the atoms are coupled with two controlling light fields besides coupling with the cavity field. Under the nonresonant condition, we analyze the influences of the coupling strength between cavity and atoms, Rabi frequencies of the controlling light field, the detuning between the controlling light field and atoms, and pump field power on the optical bistable behavior of mean intracavity photon number. The nonlinear distribution of the mean intracavity photon number has a potential application in field optical switches and optical bistable devices.

The nonlinearity of a mechanical oscillator may lead to the generation of the macroscopic quantum states, which are useful for precision measurement. Measuring the nonlinearity of a mechanical oscillator becomes important in order to effectively assess its performance. In this paper, we study the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in an optomechanical system with a cubic nonlinear movable mirror. In the presence of the nonlinearity of the movable mirror, we show that the intensity of the output probe field exhibits an asymmetric shape with the transparency peak shifted to a frequency lower than the cavity resonance frequency. This shift can be used to measure the nonlinearity strength of the movable mirror. We also show that the mechanical nonlinearity gives rise to the enhancement of the intensity of the second-order upper sideband generation.

The ground state cooling of a mechanical oscillator and strong optomechanical coupling are necessary prerequisites for realizing quantum control of the macroscopic mechanical oscillator. Here, we show that the resolved-sideband cooling of a mechanical oscillator in an optomechanical system can be enhanced by a simple coherent feedback scheme, in which a portion of the output field from the cavity is fed back into the cavity using an asymmetric beam splitter. Moreover, we show that the normal mode splitting in the spectra of the movable mirror and the output field in a weakly coupled optomechanical system can be induced by the feedback scheme due to a reduced effective cavity decay rate. We find that the peak separation becomes larger and two peaks of the spectra become narrower and higher with increasing the reflection coefficient r of the beam splitter.

Resonant tunneling can lead to inverse tunnel magnetoresistance when impurity levels rather than direct tunneling dominate the transport process. We fabricated hybrid magnetic tunnel junctions of CoFe/LiF/EuS/Ti, with an epitaxial LiF energy barrier joined with a polycrystalline EuS spin-filter barrier. Due to the water solubility of LiF, the devices were fully packaged in situ. The devices showed sizeable positive TMR up to 16% at low bias voltages but clearly inverted TMR at higher bias voltages. The TMR inversion depends sensitively on the thickness of LiF, and the tendency of inversion disappears when LiF gets thick enough and recovers its intrinsic properties.
