The Fifth Industrial Revolution is ushering in a profound era of technological advancement and societal transformation, prompting a critical examination of the evolving role of libraries in this digital landscape. Traditionally regarded as the custodians of knowledge, libraries must adapt to these changing dynamics of the digital world while preserving their core principles. This study looks into the strategic integration of advanced technologies, aiming to redefine the mission of libraries in the face of complex challenges. The Fifth Industrial Revolution encompasses a convergence of diverse technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and quantum computing, all underpinned by the currency of data. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a focal point, promising enhancements in user experiences and operational efficiency, however, it also raises critical ethical and privacy concerns that challenge fundamental library principles. This research employs an interpretive content/document analysis approach to examine the evolving roles of libraries, considering their pivotal function in bridging the digital divide, providing equitable access to technology and digital resources, advancing research and innovation, and fostering community engagement. The study underscores the imperative to address challenges related to data privacy, digital inclusion, resource allocation, intellectual property, and sustainability. However, despite these challenges, libraries are poised to remain indispensable pillars of education, research, and community interaction. To do so, they must embrace technology strategically to redefine their roles and expand their influence within evolving knowledge systems.

The paper investigated the current application of robots in public libraries with specific consideration of its future opportunities. Three (3) objectives guided the conduct of the study. The study employed a qualitative research approach. The population for the study comprised librarians who have been certified by the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) and worked at public library boards. Thematic analysis and content analysis techniques were adopted for this study. The study found that robots bring various advantages, including increased operational efficiency and streamlined access to information, as well as interactive educational opportunities and heightened user involvement. The findings indicate that embracing robotic technology enables public libraries to establish more accessible, dynamic, and user-focused environments, fostering an atmosphere of innovation and technological progress within the realm of information services. It could be concluded that the integration of robots in public libraries plays a vital role in modernizing and improving library services to meet the evolving demands of library users and communities. However, library stakeholders must address potential obstacles, including financial limitations, technological preparedness, and user acceptance. Prioritizing the training of staff, fostering community involvement, and establishing clear policy frameworks enables public libraries to effectively navigate the challenges related to incorporating robotics, ensuring a smooth transition toward a technologically advanced and user-focused library environment. This paper explores the potential of metaverse technology for the preservation of cultural heritage while acknowledging the obstacles that come with its implementation. It begins by highlighting the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage amidst the backdrop of globalization and technological advancements. The emergence of immersive technologies which include Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and the Metaverse, is then introduced as a promising solution to address this challenge. The paper emphasises the transformative power of the metaverse in revitalising our interactions with digital content. Nevertheless, it also identifies various challenges associated with employing metaverse technology for cultural preservation. These challenges encompass technical limitations, ethical considerations regarding cultural representation and ownership, as well as concerns about privacy, data security, and digital rights management. Despite these hurdles, the research advocates for the utilization of immersive technology to protect and celebrate cultural heritage. It underscores the necessity for collaboration among stakeholders, such as technology developers, cultural institutions, communities, and policymakers, to tackle these challenges and ensure responsible and ethical preservation practices. Amidst globalization and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, indigenous language preservation and promotion gain paramount significance. These languages encapsulate rich cultural, historical, and ecological value, embodying unique knowledge systems and identities. Nevertheless, challenges stemming from historical, social, resource, and institutional constraints impede preservation, with digital media technology thus emerging as a pivotal tool in this endeavour. This paper meticulously explores the role of digital media technology in indigenous language preservation during the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Through a comprehensive review of reputable literature, including scholarly articles, case studies, and expert insights, the paper underscores the imperative of language preservation, delving into the obstacles hindering preservation efforts and spotlighting the pivotal role of digital media technology in rejuvenating indigenous languages. The paper also examines various digital tools and applications that facilitate preservation, emphasizing their accessibility and engagement, while also underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts involving indigenous communities, linguists, and technology experts. Ethical considerations, encompassing intellectual property rights and informed consent, are of paramount importance in indigenous language preservation, and thus this paper also consolidates insights derived from the findings and provides recommendations for effective preservation strategies, underlining the necessity of ethical guidelines and emphasizing the indispensable role of government support. The study concludes by addressing prospects and challenges in indigenous language preservation, providing a comprehensive view of safeguarding linguistic heritage in the digital age. This study examined information professionals of the future and their prospects in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The study employed a mixed method, where quantitative data were analysed using a percentage and frequency table, while qualitative data were analysed thematically. Alumni from all Nigerian library schools constituted the target population. The study gathered data through a semi-structured questionnaire distributed via Google Forms to several platforms, including WhatsApp, Telegram, and Facebook. A total of 150 filled questionnaires were received from participants in Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. The findings show that participants were fully aware of the emergence of the 4IR. They indicated the impact of the 4IR era on the future job market as driverless cars, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), robot technology, metaverse, blockchain and soft skills. It is evident from the findings that these technologies have changed the landscape of all industries. Nigerian information professionals partially possess some 4IR skills, including active learning and learning strategies, and people management, and have good knowledge of skills required for current and future job markets. Challenges associated with the preparation of future information professionals are lack of motivation for trainers; lack of synergy between training schools and the industry; inadequate funding for training schools; lack of qualified personnel; and poor attitude by students to acquire new skills. The study concludes that poor preparation of future information professionals could result in job losses, economic disparities, unemployment, and underperformance in the workplace. The study recommends that training schools should develop a core curriculum for future information professionals that covers characteristics of the 4IR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examines the role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives provided by private organizations in supporting public libraries’ contributions to environmental sustainability in Nigeria. A qualitative research design was employed, using purposive sampling to select 12 key stakeholders, including six senior librarians from public libraries and six CSR representatives from corporate organizations across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using narrative analysis. Findings reveal that libraries in the South-West and North-Central zones benefit from CSR-supported community clean-ups and tree planting initiatives, while libraries in the South-South have received CSR aid for green energy solutions, such as distributing solar-powered reading lamps. However, libraries in resource-constrained regions, such as the North-East and North-West, face challenges due to security concerns, limited CSR sponsorship, and inadequate funding. These findings highlight regional disparities in CSR-supported environmental initiatives and underscore the need for stronger corporate partnerships to enhance sustainability efforts in Nigerian public libraries. The study recommends expanding CSR collaborations, securing alternative funding sources, and developing structured CSR implementation frameworks to ensure the long-term sustainability of environmental initiatives in libraries.
