Rhynchosia suaveolens (L.f.) DC. was reported for the first time from the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. It is rediscovered after 144 years from Maharashtra. Previously, this species was recorded only from the southern part of India. In the present article detailed description, illustration, digital photographs, and relevant notes are provided to facilitate its easy identification.

Cryoballoon ablation (CBA) is recommended for patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) refractory to antiarrhythmic drugs. However, only 80% of patients benefit from initial CBA. There is growing evidence that pretreatment with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) decreases the recurrence of AF postablation, particularly in nonparoxysmal AF undergoing radiofrequency ablation. The role of ACEIs and ARBs in patients with paroxysmal AF in CBA remains unknown. We decided to investigate the role of ACEIs and ARBs in preventing the recurrence of atrial arrhythmia (AA) following CBA for paroxysmal AF.To investigate the role of ACEIs and ARBs in preventing recurrence of AA following CBA for paroxysmal AF.We followed 103 patients (age 60.6 ± 9.1 years, 29% women) with paroxysmal AF undergoing CBA 1-year post procedure. Recurrence was assessed by documented AA on electrocardiogram or any form of long-term cardiac rhythm monitoring. A multivariable Cox proportional hazard model was used to assess if ACEI or ARB treatment predicted the risk of AA recurrence.After a 1-year follow-up, 19 (18.4%) participants developed recurrence of AA. Use of ACEI or ARB therapy was noted in the study population. Patients on ACEI/ARB had a greater prevalence of hypertension and coronary artery disease. On a multivariate model adjusted for baseline demographics and risk factors for AF, ACEI or ARB therapy did not prevent recurrence of AA following CBA (In our study population, preablation treatment with an ACEI or ARB had no influence on the recurrence of AA following CBA for paroxysmal AF.

Methemoglobin is a form of hemoglobin that has been oxidized, changing its heme iron configuration from the ferrous to the ferric state. Unlike normal hemoglobin, methemoglobin does not bind oxygen and as a result, cannot deliver oxygen to the tissues. At the presentation in the emergency department, an electrocardiogram (EKG) is usually performed as a reflex for patients admitted for shortness of breath to rule out acute coronary syndrome. Very limited data is available on EKG abnormalities in patients with methemoglobinemia. In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the pattern of EKG changes in patients with methemoglobinemia.

Among the cardiac complications of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), one increasingly reported in the literature is myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronaries (MINOCA). We reviewed all reported cases of MINOCA in COVID-19 patients to summarize its clinical features, evaluation, and treatment. We performed a literature search in Pubmed using the search terms 'COVID-19' and 'MINOCA' or 'non-obstructive coronaries'. Among the reported cases, the mean age was 61.5 years (SD ± 13.4), and 50% were men. Chest pain was the presenting symptom in five patients (62.5%), and hypertension was the most common comorbidity (62.5%). ST-elevation was seen in most patients (87.5%), and the overall mortality rate was 37.5%. MINOCA in COVID-19 is an entity with a broad differential diagnosis. Therefore, a uniform algorithm is needed in its evaluation to ensure timely diagnosis and management.

Patients with heart failure (HF) may be at a higher risk of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection and may have a worse outcome due to their comorbid conditions and advanced age. In this narrative review, we aim to study the interaction between COVID-19 and HF from a critical care perspective. We performed a systematic search for studies that reported HF and critical care-related outcomes in COVID-19 patients in the PubMed and Medline databases. From a total of 1050 papers, we identified 26 that satisfied the eligibility criteria for our review. Data such as patient demographics, HF, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, management, and outcome were extracted from these studies and analyzed. We reported outcomes in heart-transplant patients with COVID-19 separately. In hospitalized patients with COVID-19, the prevalence of HF varied between 4% and 21%. The requirement for ICU admission was between 8% and 33%. HF patients with COVID-19 had an overall mortality rate between 20% and 40%. We identified that HF is an independent predictor of mortality in hospitalized COVID-19 patients, and patients with HF were more likely to require ventilation, ICU admission and develop complications. Patients with HF with reduced ejection fraction did worse than those with HF with midrange ejection fraction, and HF with preserved ejection fraction. COVID-19 patients with HF should be identified early and managed aggressively in an attempt to improve outcomes in this cohort of patients.

Heavy metal contamination remains a major threat to the environment. Evaluating the concentrations of heavy metals in water environments is a crucial step towards a viable treatment strategy. Non-cadmium photo-luminescent I-III-VI ternary QDs have attracted increasing attention due to their low toxicity and extraordinary optical properties, which have made them popular in biological applications. Recently, ternary I-III-VI-QDs have gained growing interest as fluorescent detectors of heavy metal ions in water. Here, we review the research progress of ternary I-III-VI QDs for the fluorescence detection of heavy metal ions in water. First, we summarize the optical properties and synthesis methodologies of ternary I-III-VI QDs. Then, we present various detection mechanisms involved in the fluorescence detection of heavy metal ions, which are mostly attributed to direct interaction between these unique QDs and the metal ions, seen in the form of fluorescence quenching and fluorescence enhancement. Cardiac thrombus, the most common intracardiac mass, is typically seen in the left side of the heart in the presence of atrial fibrillation, mitral stenosis, or impaired global wall motion. Right atrial thrombus, which is rarer, is usually associated with central venous catheter placement or pulmonary embolism. We present the case of a 24-year-old woman with a history of mitral valve prolapse who presented with fatigue and palpitations. Echocardiograms and cardiac magnetic resonance images revealed a right atrial mass compatible with a myxoma. However, after surgical excision of this and a second mass discovered intraoperatively, pathologic evaluation confirmed organized thrombus rather than myxoma. The patient's only risk factor was her use of oral contraceptive pills. Test results for hypercoagulable disorders revealed the presence of antiphosphatidylserine, an uncommon antiphospholipid antibody. The patient stopped taking the contraceptive. This case suggests the need to examine further the role of antiphosphatidylserine antibodies in the diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome.

The paper reviews graphitic carbon nitride-based nanostructured photocatalytic materials and nanofibres for applications in water purification. Titanium dioxide has shown unique features that continue to attract research and development (R&D) due to its unique properties such as availability, ultraviolet absorptivity, photocatalysis, adsorption of pollutants and solar cell engineering. Graphitic carbon nitride is an attractive photocatalyst due to its non-toxicity characteristics, good visible light absorption and good thermal and chemical stabilities. In water purification, nanofibres are currently noticed due to their distinctive properties of effective separation and sometimes elimination of organic pollutants in water. In this review, synthesis and utility of doped titanium dioxide and carbon nitride with metal nanoparticles and polymeric nanofibres from nanocomposites as effective materials for the degradation of organic contaminations from water are discussed. The history, current trends and future perspectives are highlighted.

The need for usage of smart materials/structures in modern perspective in industries and societal applications at large, cannot be overemphasized as with regard to the propertied i.e. durability, cost reductions and performance consistency. Smart materials are now days being used in all spheres of human life and technology. Smart materials also termed as intelligent materials or active materials include matrix of material systems possessing predominantly a set of properties as per their functional requirements. Some of the examples of smart materials are: Piezoelectric materials, Shape memory alloys, Magnetostrictive materials, Electro-rheological materials, Magneto-rheological fluids, electro- and magneto theological fluids, Thermoresponsive and Electrochromic material. This paper highlights the different types of smart materials and their applications.

In this review, various graphene-based/TiO2 and graphene-based magnetic nanocomposites which were developed as highly efficient photocatalysts for degrading organic dyes, pharmaceuticals and efficient adsorbent materials for the adsorption of heavy metal ions were reviewed. The nanocomposites revealed the effective adsorptive potential of graphene-based magnetic materials and the efficient photocatalytic ability of graphene-based/TiO2 nanocomposites in decontaminating industrial wastewater containing toxic heavy metals and organic pollutants. The magnetic properties of graphene-based magnetic materials facilitate easy magnetic separation after adsorption of pollutants. The efficient photocatalytic ability of TiO2 semiconductor helps in rapid degradation of organic pollutants while graphene-based materials increase the surface area for adsorption of pollutants. Literature studies show that combinations of synthetic methods have been employed for the generation of various nanocomposite materials such as GO/TiO2, rGO/TiO2, and Fe3O4/GO, that possess photocatalytic activity and magnetic properties for the commercial removal of organic and inorganic pollutants found in water/wastewaters. The photocatalytic performance is connected to the large surface area of graphene derivatives (e.g. GO) that limit electron–hole recombination for TiO2, while the presence of magnetic nanoparticles (e.g. Fe3O4) in heavy metal adsorbent materials facilitates magnetic separation when an external magnetic field is applied.

Polymers derived from plant and animal sources are of great interest in wastewater remediation due to their cost-effectiveness and renewable adsorption capabilities, one such polymer is nanocellulose (NC). NC has gained a lot of attention in various research fields due to its abundance in nature, nano-dimension, high surface area, stability and bio-compatibility. As a result, NC has emerged as a great potential adsorbent for the removal of contaminants such as heavy metals, organic dyes, oils, pharmaceutical and etc. in the environmental remediation. This review focuses on the description of the building blocks, structure, properties, isolation and also discusses the potential of nanocellulose based composites materials with reinforcements such as activated carbon, carbon nanotube, graphene oxides, metals, non-metals and ceramics that were effectively used as an adsorbents for diverse organic and inorganic contaminants in water.

The deterioration of water quality by pollutants is a major health issue. Actual remediation methods are limited, and, as a consequence, there is a need for new remediation technologies. In particular, nanomaterials of unique properties have been recently developed for remediation. Here, we review mechanisms and applications of carbon-based nanomaterials for the adsorption and photocatalytic removal of organic and inorganic pollutants in wastewaters. Nanomaterials allow enhanced adsorption due to strong interactions between pollutants and adsorption sites. In photocatalysis, enhanced efficiency is attributed to the improved light harvesting and reduced recombination of photo-induced electrons and holes.

Cardiovascular complications have been increasingly recognized in the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) associated coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Cardiac biomarkers are released because of this ongoing cardiovascular injury and can act as surrogate markers to assess the disease severity.To review the variation and utility of these biomarkers in COVID-19 to ascertain their role in diagnosis, prognosis and clinical outcomes of the disease.We performed a literature search in PubMed, Medline and the Reference Citation Analysis (RCA), using the search terms "COVID-19" and "cardiac bioenzymes" or "cardiac biomarkers". Additionally, we also used the latest reference citation analysis tool to identify more articles.Cardiac troponin has been consistently elevated in patients with COVID-19 associated myocarditis, and strongly correlated with adverse prognosis. Natri-uretic peptides including brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and pro-BNP is elevated in patients with COVID-19 associated cardiac injury, irrespective of their prior heart failure status, and independently correlated with worst outcomes. Alongside these traditional biomarkers, novel cardiac bioenzymes including presepsin, soluble ST2 and copeptin, are also increasingly recognized as markers of cardiovascular injury in COVID-19 and can be associated with poor outcomes.Assessment of cardiac bioenzymes at admission and their serial monitoring can help assess the severity of disease and predict mortality in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection. Future studies are needed to elude the critical importance of novel biomarkers.

In the current study, a direct S-scheme titanium dioxide/graphitic carbon nitride (TiO

(3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) modified magnetic graphene oxide was synthesized and applied in the adsorption of three heavy metals, Pb(II), Cd(II) and Ni(II) from aqueous solution. An approach to prepare magnetic GO was adopted by using (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) as a functionalizing agent on magnetic nanosilica coupled with GO to form the Fe3O4@SiO2-NH2/GO nanocomposite. FT-IR, XRD, BET, UV, VSM, SAXS, SEM and TEM were used to characterize the synthesized nanoadsorbents. Batch adsorption studies were conducted to investigate the effect of solution pH, initial metal ion concentration, adsorbent dosage and contact time. The maximum equilibrium time was found to be 30 min for Pb(II), Cd(II) and 60 min for Ni(II). The kinetics studies showed that the adsorption of Pb(II), Cd(II) and Ni(II) onto Fe3O4@SiO2-NH2/GO followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics. All the adsorption equilibrium data were well fitted to Langmuir isotherm model and maximum monolayer adsorption capacity for Pb(II), Cd(II) and Ni(II) were 13.46, 18.58 and 13.52 mgg-1, respectively. The Fe3O4@SiO2-NH2/GO adsorbents were reused for at least 7 cycles without the leaching of mineral core, showing the enhanced stability and potential application of Fe3O4@SiO2-NH2/GO adsorbents in water/wastewater treatment.

During the revisionary study on the genus Rhynchosia in India, it was observed that no lectotype has been designated for Rhynchosia acuminatifolia Makino. Therefore, the original material of the species is here established and lectotype is selected.
