In this study, performances of momentum strategies has been documented using the 5-year and the 10-year maturity Turkish bonds between the dates March 2010 and August 2017 with various look-back periods. The U.S. 10-year maturity bond yield and the Istanbul Stock Exchange 100 total return index are found to be the best performing momentum indicators. There is an improvement of 10.46% annual return while using the U.S. 10-year maturity bond yield as the momentum indicator.Because of the liquidity-thin emerging markets’ supply pressure of public debt, the auctions need further attention. After a minor change to (Beetsma, Giuliodori, de Jong, & Widijanto, 2013) methodology, the treasury debt auction cycle effect is calculated for the 5-year and 10-year maturity Turkish bonds. In accordance with the auction cycle effect, the employed simple momentum strategy is adjusted. This new adjusted momentum strategy improves annual returns from 0% to 6.90% (%3.5 on average) across all the momentum indicators and the look-back periods.The time series momentum is found to be existent in the Turkish bond market for the aforementioned period. The supply side pressure by the treasury auctions has a delaying effect on the time series momentum. Employing the other momentum indicators performs better than the bond momentum itself. This paper examines and analyzes changes (increase, decrease otherwise) in US Dollar against Turkish Lira foreign exchange rate returns in some calendar days such as wage payment days in Turkish free foreign exchange market around turn of the month, beginning of the month, before holidays and mid-day of the month between years January 2003 and December 2018. It is an empirically proven fact by related literature that changes in foreign exchange rates steer foreign exchange deposits, overnight interest rates and outlook of Turkish economy. Dollarization in the Turkish economy directly affects the inflation expectations, thus causes a re-adjustment period for overall expectations on macroeconomic level. This paper focuses on the effect of wage payment days on dollarization behavior. 58

Bu çalışmada Türk bankacılık sistemindeki bankalar arası bağlantılar ile sistemik risk ilişkisi detaylıca incelenmiştir. Çalışmalarda yararlanılan data bankaların 2007 ile 2018 yılları arasında yıllık olarak yayınladıkları finansal raporlardan derlenmiştir. Çalışmada kullanılan banka sayısı ile sistemik riski tetikleyen bireysel banka batma oranları bulunmuştur. Farklı P bireysel batma oranları ile sistemik riskin yayılma etkisinin başlangıç olasılığı hesaplanmıştır. Buna göre Türk bankacılık sisteminde, bir bankanın yüzde 1 batma ihtimaline sahip olmasının, sistemik riskin yayılmaya başlaması için yeterli bir oran olduğu görülmüştür. Bunun yanı sıra, banka dataları ile yapılan çalışmalarda bankaların Sermaye Yeterlilik Oranı(CAR) seviyelerine göre batma ihtimalleri irdelenmiştir. Yüksek CAR seviyelerine sahip bankaların batma ihtimallerinin düşük olduğu gözlenmiştir. Bulunan değerlere göre Büyük Ölçekli banka grubunun en çok borcu sisteme sağlayan olduğu, ve en çok borçlananın da Kamu Bankaları grubu olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Senaryo analizinde, borcu, borç veren grupta sadece bir bankanın üstlendiği kabul edilmiş ve borç alan banka grubunda bir banka battığında, borçlu olunan banka ve grubuna olan etkisi Aktif Karlılığı(ROA) bazında ölçülmüştür. Verilen tüm borcun, borcu veren grup içerisinde eşit miktarda dağıtıldığı varsayıldığında, oluşan sistemik riskin etkilerinin grup içerisinde tolere edilmesi beklenmiştir. In this thesis, the relationship between the interbank connections and the systemic risk have been analyzed in the Turkish Banking System. The data is gathered from the financial statements of banks on a yearly basis between the years 2007 and 2018. In an attempt to find the triggering levels of systemic risk, a study is implemented by only using the number of banks, independent of data of banks. With different values of default probability P of a single bank, the likelihood to giving a start to a contagion effect is measured. It is found that, in Turkish banking system, it is enough for a single bank to have a default likelihood of 1 percent to trigger the contagion effect. The default probabilities have been evaluated based on the strength of banks' Capital Adequacy Ratio(CAR) level. It is concluded that high level of average CAR of a bank reduces the possibility of default. Large Banks are identified as the pioneers among the lenders, while State Banks are the main borrowers of the system. In a primary scenario analysis where one bank in the lender bank group gives the entire loan that would be given to a bank in the borrower bank group, in the insolvency situation of borrower bank, reaction of the lender bank based on its Return on Assets(ROA) level have been analyzed. If the entire loan that would be given to borrower bank distributed evenly among a lender group, contagion effect is deduced to be tolerated. 46

Market nötral olmayı hedefleyen istatistiksel arbitraj stratejileri, çeşitli istatistiksel teknikler kullanarak bu öngörülemez olma problemini çözmeye gayret ederler. Bu usullerden bir tanesi de görece fiyat yaklaşımıdır.Bu tezde, istatistiksel arbitraj alanında ilk olarak bulanık mantık ile karar verme sistemi kurularak, önerilen algoritma gerçek piyasa fiyatları ile test edilmiştir. Hisse senedi piyasaları, doğaları gereği karmaşık ve bulanık bir yapıya sahiptirler. Önerilen strateji, klasik modellerin tespitinde güçlük çekebileceği ve bu nedenle kaçırabilecekleri fırsatları yakalamakta, ve potansiyel olarak daha düşük getiri sağlayabilecek fırsatlarda ise işlem maliyetlerinden kaçınmak için çekimser kalmaktadır.Bu alanda ilk çalışma olarak nitelendirilebilecek bu tezin amaçlanan katkısı önerilen bulanık mantık temelli stratejinin, piyasa verileri ve uzman görüşlerini linguistik girdiler olarak kullanarak, halihazırda piyasalarda kabul görmüş ve yaygın kullanılan istatistiksel arbitraj stratejilerinden üstünlüğünü gözlemlemektir. Sayısal sonuçların sunulmasının ardından sonuç bölümünde de tartışıldığı üzere, piyasa genelinde kullanılan stratejinin üzerinde performans gösterdiği görülmüştür.--------------------Since the introduction of modern stock markets, main endeavor of the market actors had been predicting the future price movements in the stock markets. The domain of stock pricing, being quite specific and relatively narrow, had been explored mainly by finance experts, economists, mathematicians and finally, engineers. Stock prices are assumed to be martingales. Therefore, prediction is a hard task. Statistical arbitrage strategies, which aim to be market neutral, attempts to resolve the unpredictability and yield returns employing several statistical techniques one of which is the idea of relative pricing. In this thesis, a new approach to the domain of statistical arbitrage with a fuzzy inference is constructed via proposed algorithm and tested with real market price data. Stock markets are good candidates for fuzzy decision-making due to the inherent vague and complex structure they have. The proposed strategy takes advantage of the arbitrage opportunities that the classical models may miss to acquire, or stand back for the potentially low-profit opportunities to avoid transaction costs, namely make the optimal decision to open and wind out respective positions.The first in its domain, in this thesis main contribution aimed to be reached was observing superiority of the proposed fuzzy methodology, using market data and expert recommendations as linguistic inputs, to the existing classical statistical arbitrage strategies based on the historical spread measure. As discussed in the end of the thesis following empirical results of the simulated case study, enhancement on the performance of the market-wide accepted method is reported.

Sermaye yeterliliği hesaplanmasında günlük piyasa riskini ölçmek için Parametrik (Variance-Covariance),Tarihsel ve Monte Carlo simülasyon yöntemlerinin kullanımı tavsiye edilmektedir. Özellikle Subprime kriz sonrası finansal kurumlar, geriye dönük test aşım sayılarındaki anormal artış, likidite sorunları nedeniyle riske maruz değer(VaR) yöntemlerini upgrade etme arayışına girdiler. Modified olan bu yöntemler (Filtered Historical Simulation,Age-Weighted Historical Simulation,Copula Monte Carlo, ES(Expected Shortfall),EVT vb.) son günlere ağırlık veren volatilite ve korelasyonu dikkate alan bu modeller birçok avantaj ile ön plana çıktı.2016'da BCBS tarafından yayınlanan FRTB Market Risk revizyonu ile Expected Shortfall kuyruk riskleri dikkate almasından dolayı VaR'ın yerine dikkate alınmaya başlamıştır.Bu çalışmada,farklı ES yöntemleri 02.01.2007-04.01.2017 arasında 3 farklı dayanak varlık üzerinde(USD/TRY,EUR/TRY ve EUR/USD) Linear ürünler ve Opsiyon portföylerinin backtesting performansları Binomial Backtest yöntemine göre karşılaştırılmış ve yapılan analizde Semi-Parametric modellerde VaR metodları yerine ES yönteminin sermaye yeterliliğinde önemli derecede azaltma sağladığı görülmüştür. Ayrıca portföy lineer den non-lineer e geçtikçe bu azaltım gücünün azaldığı görülmektedir. Bu bulgular , portföyün non-lineer oldukça sub-additivity ve convexity özelliklerinin önemini ortaya koymaktadır. The banks have to measure the market risk daily for the calculation of their capital adequacy. According to the Fundamental Review of Trading Book (FRTB) market risk revision, which was released in 2016 by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS), the expected shortfall (ES) will replace the value-at-risk (VaR) approach in order to capture the tail risks. In this paper, various risk management methodologies have been compared based on their performances using both the VaR and the ES. The data are based on three different currencies (USD/TRY, EUR/TRY, and EUR/USD) for the period from Jan 2nd, 2007 to Jan 4th, 2017. The methodologies have been applied to several portfolios of assets, ranging from a linear one (pure FX Position) to highly non-linear one (complex derivative securities on FX). The binomial backtest method is used for comparing backtesting performance and the empirical results indicate that the ES method, in lieu of the VaR methods, ensures the significant reduction in the capital adequacy for the semi-parametric models. In addition, the ES yields a considerable capital adequacy reduction compared to the VaR in linear portfolios. The reduction in loses strengths as the portfolios get more non-linear. These findings mainly highlight the importance of the convexity and the subadditivity features of the non-linear portfolios. 51

In the present paper, the two-step difference scheme for the Cauchy problem for the stochastic hyperbolic equation is presented. The convergence estimate for the solution of the difference scheme is established. In applications, the convergence estimates for the solution of difference schemes for the numerical solution of four problems for hyperbolic equations are obtained. The theoretical statements for the solution of this difference scheme are supported by the results of the numerical experiment.

In applications, the convergence estimates for the solution of difference scheme for the numerical solution of two problems for hyperbolic equations are obtained. The theoretical statements for the solution of this difference scheme are supported by the results of the numerical experiment.

Opsiyon fiyatlaması Fischer Black ve Myron Scholes'un 1973 yılında yayınladıkları ?The pricing of options and cooperate liabilities? adlı makaleyle önemli ölçüde gelişme katetti.Bariyer Opsiyonları standart vanilla opsiyonlarından komplike olması ile farklanırlar. Bu opsiyonlarda anlaşmaya ekstradan bir de ?bariyer? eklenir. Bu yüzden bariyer opsiyonları fiyatlandırılmasının matematiği de standart vanilla opsiyonlardan daha karmaşıktır. Bu çalışma bariyer opsiyonlarının fiyatlarını düzenli bir şekilde okura sunan türkçe bir kaynaktır.Bu çalışmanın birinci bölümünde opsiyonların finans piyasasındaki öneminden kısaca bahsedildikten sonra opsiyon prim fiyatlanmasında önemli yere sahip olan Black-Scholes modelinin varsayımları ve bu modeli etkileyen parametreler incelenmiştir.İkinci bölümde 4 farklı matematiksel yöntem; martingale yöntemi, diferansiyel denklemler, indirgeme metodu ve risk nötral parametreler metodu ile Black-Scholes formülünün elde edilişi incenmiştir.Üçüncü bölümde ise temel bariyer opsiyonlarının tanımları yapılmiş ve prim fiyatları martingale yöntemi ve diferansiyel denklemler yolu ile hesaplanılmıştır.Bu çalışma bariyer opsiyonları ve onların fiyatlandırılmasında kullanılan matematiği okuyucuya detaylı bir şekilde sunan bir derlemedir. One of the main tools of financial sector is financial derivatives and one of the main part of financial derivatives is the options. The option is a type of contract between buyer and writer. The options can be written on the stocks as well as on any financial asset.In literature and in practice pricing of options has significant importance. Option pricing has been improved with Fisher Black and Myron Scholes?s paper named ?The pricing of options and cooperate liabilities?.The first part of this research briefly presents the importance of options in financial sector then introduces Black-Scholes equation, the parameters which affect the equation and also introduces brief information about self financing portfolioIn latter parts we give different mathematical methods to calculate the price of vanilla options as well as barrier options.This dissertation is a compact resource for a reader who is looking for the formula of the price of any simple barrier option. 53
