Abstract

Recently, through development of several 3d vision systems, widely used in various applications, medical and biometric fields. Microsoft kinect sensor have been most of used camera among 3d vision systems. Microsoft kinect sensor can obtain depth images of a scene and 3d coordinates of human joints. Thus, anthropometric features can extractable easily. Anthropometric feature and 3d joint coordinate raw datas which captured from kinect sensor is unstable. The strongest reason for this, datas vary by distance between joints of individual and location of kinect sensor. Consequently, usage of this datas without kinect calibration and data optimization does not result in sufficient and healthy. In this study, proposed a novel method to calibrating kinect sensor and optimizing skeleton features. Results indicate that the proposed method is quite effective and worthy of further study in more general scenarios.

We describe an unusual patient who presented with recurrent episodes of bloody tearing which began following an erythema multiforme-like drug eruption. He experienced chronic conjunctivitis which resulted in a few minor symblephara. One year later, the patient developed attacks of bloody tearing. All clinical, radiologic, and laboratory investigations related to bloody epiphora were within normal limits except for a mild, nonspecific chronic inflammatory reaction in the perivascular tissues of the lacrimal gland and orbital soft tissues. Also, an increase in vascular permeability and contrast extravasation on carotid angiography was detected. High-dose vitamin C was administered. The patient continued to have unilateral bloody tears intermittently for two years, but the episodes became much less frequent and had resolved by three years. It is conceivable that increased vascular permeability following the systemic inflammatory process could have played a role in the etiology of recurrent bloody tears in this atypical patient.Keywords: bloody tears, erythema multiforme, drug eruption, vitamin C

They are mostly located at the limbus with corneal involvement. We report a case of a 30-month-old boy with a bulber conjunctival cyst noticed at birth. The lesion enlarged over the following months but did not involve the cornea. During surgery the cyst proved to be intrascleral and a complete excision was carried out. The remaining defect was repaired with banked fascia lata. The histopathology revealed a scleral cyst wall lined by nonkeratinizing squamous epithelium with no goblet cells. We conclude that congenital intrascleral epithelial cysts are rare but should be considered in differential diagnosis of external eye cystic lesions. In our case, early excision and repair with fascia lata led to an uncomplicated postoperative course of 6 years.Keywords: intrascleral cyst, epthelial cyst, banked fascia lata

4. Academic Procrastination and School Satisfaction: Mediating Role of Academic Stress.

Abstract

This investigation sought to explore the mediating role of academic stress in the linkage between academic procrastination and school satisfaction among Turkish adolescents (N = 362; Mage = 15.22, SD = 1.22). It was found that adolescents' academic procrastination had a negative correlation with school satisfaction, and their levels of academic stress were positively related to satisfaction with school. Utilizing structural equation modeling, the analysis revealed that academic stress served as a partial mediator in the relationship between academic procrastination and school satisfaction. Consequently, the indirect influence of academic procrastination on school satisfaction, mediated through academic stress, was statistically significant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This study explored the mediating effect of meaning in life on the relationship between academic perfectionism and school satisfaction among Turkish adolescents (N = 402; mean age = 15.27, SD = 1.19). Data were collected using the Academic Perfectionism Scale, the Meaningful Living Scale, and the Children's Overall Satisfaction with Schooling Scale. The analysis indicated a negative association between academic perfectionism and school satisfaction, whereas meaning in life was positively linked to satisfaction in school. A bootstrapping procedure was used to assess mediation. The results demonstrated that meaning in life partially mediated the relationship between academic perfectionism and school satisfaction, confirming a statistically significant indirect effect of academic perfectionism on school satisfaction through academic stress. Abstract

Background There is a paucity of data comparing 30-day morbidity and mortality of sleeve gastrectomy (SG), Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), and one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB). This study aimed to compare the 30-day safety of SG, RYGB, and OAGB in propensity score-matched cohorts. Materials and methods This analysis utilised data collected from the GENEVA study which was a multicentre observational cohort study of bariatric and metabolic surgery (BMS) in 185 centres across 42 countries between 01/05/2022 and 31/10/2020 during the Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. 30-day complications were categorised according to the Clavien–Dindo classification. Patients receiving SG, RYGB, or OAGB were propensity-matched according to baseline characteristics and 30-day complications were compared between groups. Results In total, 6770 patients (SG 3983; OAGB 702; RYGB 2085) were included in this analysis. Prior to matching, RYGB was associated with highest 30-day complication rate (SG 5.8%; OAGB 7.5%; RYGB 8.0% (p = 0.006)). On multivariate regression modelling, Insulin-dependent type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolaemia were associated with increased 30-day complications. Being a non-smoker was associated with reduced complication rates. When compared to SG as a reference category, RYGB, but not OAGB, was associated with an increased rate of 30-day complications. A total of 702 pairs of SG and OAGB were propensity score-matched. The complication rate in the SG group was 7.3% (n = 51) as compared to 7.5% (n = 53) in the OAGB group (p = 0.68). Similarly, 2085 pairs of SG and RYGB were propensity score-matched. The complication rate in the SG group was 6.1% (n = 127) as compared to 7.9% (n = 166) in the RYGB group (p = 0.09). And, 702 pairs of OAGB and RYGB were matched. The complication rate in both groups was the same at 7.5 % (n = 53; p = 0.07). Conclusions This global study found no significant difference in the 30-day morbidity and mortality of SG, RYGB, and OAGB in propensity score-matched cohorts.

Abstract

Background: Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is an effective treatment for adolescents with severe obesity. Objectives: This study examined the safety of MBS in adolescents during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Methods: This was a global, multicentre and observational cohort study of MBS performed between May 01, 2020, and October 10,2020, in 68 centres from 24 countries. Data collection included in-hospital and 30-day COVID-19 and surgery-specific morbidity/mortality. Results: One hundred and seventy adolescent patients (mean age: 17.75 ± 1.30 years), mostly females (n=122, 71.8%), underwent MBS during the study period. The mean pre-operative weight and body mass index were 122.16 ± 15.92 kg and 43.7± 7.11 kg/m2, respectively. Although majority of patients had pre-operative testing for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) (n=146; 85.9%), only 42.4% (n=72) of the patients were asked to self-isolate pre-operatively. Two patients developed symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection post-operatively (1.2%). The overall complication rate was 5.3% (n=9). There was no mortality in this cohort. Conclusions: MBS in adolescents with obesity is safe during the COVID-19 pandemic when performed within the context of local precautionary procedures (such as pre-operative testing). The 30-day morbidity rates were similar to those reported pre-pandemic. These data will help facilitate the safe re-introduction of MBS services for this group of patients.

Abstract

Background: There is a paucity of data comparing 30-day morbidity and mortality of sleeve gastrectomy (SG), Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), and one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB). This study aimed to compare the 30-day safety of SG, RYGB, and OAGB in propensity score-matched cohorts. Materials and methods: This analysis utilised data collected from the GENEVA study which was a multicentre observational cohort study of bariatric and metabolic surgery (BMS) in 185 centres across 42 countries between 01/05/2022 and 31/10/2020 during the Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. 30-day complications were categorised according to the Clavien–Dindo classification. Patients receiving SG, RYGB, or OAGB were propensity-matched according to baseline characteristics and 30-day complications were compared between groups. Results: In total, 6770 patients (SG 3983; OAGB 702; RYGB 2085) were included in this analysis. Prior to matching, RYGB was associated with highest 30-day complication rate (SG 5.8%; OAGB 7.5%; RYGB 8.0% (p = 0.006)). On multivariate regression modelling, Insulin-dependent type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolaemia were associated with increased 30-day complications. Being a non-smoker was associated with reduced complication rates. When compared to SG as a reference category, RYGB, but not OAGB, was associated with an increased rate of 30-day complications. A total of 702 pairs of SG and OAGB were propensity score-matched. The complication rate in the SG group was 7.3% (n = 51) as compared to 7.5% (n = 53) in the OAGB group (p = 0.68). Similarly, 2085 pairs of SG and RYGB were propensity score-matched. The complication rate in the SG group was 6.1% (n = 127) as compared to 7.9% (n = 166) in the RYGB group (p = 0.09). And, 702 pairs of OAGB and RYGB were matched. The complication rate in both groups was the same at 7.5 % (n = 53; p = 0.07). Conclusions: This global study found no significant difference in the 30-day morbidity and mortality of SG, RYGB, and OAGB in propensity score-matched cohorts. © 2021, The Author(s).

Abstract

This paper proposes a method for the aggregation of induction motor loads. Thevenin theorem along with some transient characteristics of induction machine are used in calculating the parameters of the equivalent machine. The dynamic response of the resultant machine differs from the sum of the dynamic responses of the individual machines. For a diversified group of induction machines, at least two separate aggregate machines are needed to represent the overall dynamic performance of the machines. To this end, a handy index for the classification (grouping) of machines is suggested. Abstract

The paper presents a detailed field distribution in a reluctance augmented shaded-pole motor using finite element method. No-load and loaded cases are considered separately. The effect of shading coil on the spatial distribution of the air-gap flux density is examined and it is found that demagnetizing effect of the shading rings helps towards more uniform distribution of the air-gap flux. Correct paths of various flux linkages and saturating regions are identified. The iron losses are computed using the flux density distribution obtained over the cross section of the machine.

The paper describes an improved technique for calculating the inductance parameters of reluctance augmented shaded- pale motors, including saturation effect. The method is based mainly on the use of finite element (FE) field calculation and partly on some analytical derivations. Equations are provided for saturated inductance components in terms of relevant winding currents, in order to facilitate the inclusion of saturation effect into the performance evaluation. The computed values of several inductances are compared with their measured counterparts for verification.

Background: Domestic accidents (DA) are an important, but still neglected public health problem in Turkey. We aimed to determine the prevalence of DA, their physical and residential characteristics, including affecting factors, in the centre of semi-rural Mediterranean District Karataş of Turkey. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study, performed between October 2011 and April 2012 with face-to-face interviews by the researcher physician, collected DA data about 569 people living in 141 houses, selected by simple random sampling method, among 2726 houses. Results: DA frequency was 45.4% and 30.2% in terms of houses included in the study and the whole population resident in those houses, respectively. DA most frequently occurred in kitchen (38.9%), affecting mostly upper extremities (45.9%). Most of the injured, i.e.124(72.1%) people didn’t apply to any health institution; 43(25.0%) people were treated at outpatient departments. Only 5(2.9%) required hospitalization. None of the accidents resulted in death. The season with the highest frequency of accidents was found to be the summer. DA frequency was positively proportional to the house-hold size (p0.05). Conclusion: Primary health service providing institutions can be suggested for the determination of risk factors for DA in addition to the establi shment of a national accidents surveillance system. © GATA.

Abstract

Today health services aim to provide a higher level of life quality to individuals as much as possible and not being limited only to providing a good treatment. In this context it was aimed to evaluate the life quality and the factors affecting this in chronic renal failure (CRF) patients undergoing hemodialysis. Materials and method A total of 144 adult patients with CRF from two dialysis centers in Adana, one private and one in a University, were included in the study. A questionnaire investigating demographic characteristics and short form health survey "SF-36" were filled by face-to-face interview technique. Findings Male to female ratio of the participants was 91(63.2%) to 53(36.8%). The mean dialysis history was calculated as 44.4±34.3 months. One to six other diseases were recorded with a mean number of 2.9±1.1 to be concurrent to CRF. SF-36 revealed a health status score mean (TS=total score) of 48.1±21.8, with physical status scale (PSS) score mean of 46.0±21.1 and mental status scale (MSS) score mean of 50.3±22.0. PubMedID: 20597056 The aim of this study was the detection of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) cases at Turunçlu and Hocalli Villages, Adana, Turkey, where local cases had been observed in recent years, and to determine possible vectors and their seasonal density distribution. This was for the purpose of encouraging public awareness and thus leading to prevention. An initial questionnaire was responded by 567 people, with a male-to-female ratio of 45% to 55%. The physician in the research group examined the whole population of both villages for CL and then made monthly visits in order to detect new cases. Adhesive paper traps and CDC light traps were placed in houses and animal stables in order to collect sandflies, whose species were later determined in the laboratory. The CL prevalence was found to be 7.2%, with 30 old cases and 11 new cases. The number of cases in the Turunçlu Village was high with 17 men and 24 women affected. The case frequencies were not different between men and women (p > 0.05). The houses being whitewashed or kind of animal feeding were not found to affect the frequency of CL. In the two villages, 88 Phlebotomus were detected. P. papatasi and P. tobbi were of the genus Phlebotomus, while the genus Sergentomia was also observed. P.papatasi was most frequent in adhesive paper traps, while P.tobbi was frequent in light traps.

Annual Conference of the Ergonomics Society on Contemporary Ergonomics 2006 --4 April 2006 through 6 April 2006 -- Cambridge -- The kids are using the school's or internet cafe's general computers in Turkey. The statistics that have published in the developed countries show that every year rather much kids see damages tied to accumulating injures on their head, neck and hand. Searching the computer stations that the kid's use at the internet cafes. At Turkey, in Adana, 5 internet cafe's computer stations that are used by the children aged 15, are searched. The computer environment working conditions lists of the Cornell University is carried out on this study. The computer users in our search are, 18 people. The age average is 12.5 year. This users have been using the computers since average 2.6 years. The time that is entered in front of the computer is average 1.8 hour/day. If the ergonomically findings are appraised; 16.6% of the kid's upper arms and elbows were near the body. 22.2% of the people's wrists, hands were flat; 38.8% of the chairs are supporting the waist and arm and these are adjustable. 44.4% of the mouses were near the keyboard and 33.3% were suitable to the users hands. 44.4% of the computers weren't shining and reflecting. There were no computers that had foot support. The Computer Work Stations at the internet cafes aren't suitable for kids.

In this study, the effect of parametric variation of pole arc offset distance on the performance of a Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) used in wind energy applications has been investigated. Fourier analyses of the voltage wave-shapes that are obtained by the parametric variation of the pole arc offset value have been made. The THD is determined for each voltage wave-shape. This study aims to find out the dimension of water pollution in Seyhan river and make contribution to other studies which may be conducted for the purpose of increasing the water quality. Investigation was conducted from 6 stations on seasonal base in 2001 and 2002. The results of the analysis were presented after being evaluated with variance analysis on SPSS program. The bacteriological pollution in the samples obtained from city stations is attributed to the pollution of phenol, zinc, copper and total phosphor and that there is also bacteriological pollution in the samples obtained from the stations on the way to the shore where the river joins with the sea, which is due to the pollution of nickel, phenol, zinc, copper and lead.

The study of the contamination level of drinking water used in Adana, Turkey was conducted at 5 stations, twice at each station, one in 2002 and one in 2003. In the water samples, nickel, cyanide, phenol, zinc, copper, lead, total chrome, cadmium, nitrate, nitrate-nitrogen, total phosphor and fecal coliform were investigated and the results were evaluated through variation analysis in repeated measurements on SPSS program. It was found that there is phenol and lead contamination in all the stations, nickel and copper contamination in three stations, zinc, total chrome and total phosphor in one station.

Abstract

In this study, the in-vitro susceptibilities of dermatophytes isolated from hair, skin and nail specimens collected from patients admitted to our outpatient clinics between 1993-1997 with dermatophytosis lesions, against griseofulvin, fluconazole and itraconazole have been searched. For this purpose, totally 117 dermatophyte strains (61 Trichophyton mentagrophytes, 34 Trichophyton tonsurans, 14 Trichophyton verrucosum, 8 Trichophyton violaceum) isolated from cultures of superficial lesions of the patients were tested for antifungal susceptibility patterns with agar dilution method. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of the strains varied in a wide range as 1-25 µg/ml, 1-100 µg/ml and 0.01-10 µg/ml for griseofulvin, fluconazole and itraconazole, respectively. As the standard cut-off values have not been described definitely for dermatophyte sensitivity methods, the results were evaluated as MIC values. The MIC values of the isolates were found to be as follows; in 29 (24.8%) > 10 µg/ml for griseofulvin, in 78 (66.6%) > 10 µg/ml for fluconazole, and in 111 (94.8%) ? 1 µg/ml for itraconazole. It can be concluded that the in-vitro MIC values of dermatophytes were found to be high for griseofulvin and fluconazole.

Abstract

Background and Design. - In this study, 53 patients with pruritus who applied to Cukurova University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Dermatology and Dogankent Health Center between December 1992 and June 1993 were included in order to determine the efficacy of topical bamipin gel in some pruritic dermatoses. Ten of these patients were with chronic pruritus, 9 with chronic dermatitis (especially lichen simplex chronicus), 8 with acute urticaria, 7 with prurigo simplex, 6 with strophulus, 5 with insect bite, 4 with pruritus ani, 1 with pruritus vulva, 2 with scabies (pruritus after treatment), 1 with varicella. Results. - After treatment, significant improvement was obtained in 28 (52.8%) cases and moderate improvement in 22, (43.4%) cases. No response was obtained in 3 (3.8%) cases. Contact dermatitis was observed as an adverse side effect in one case with chronic dermatitis. Conclusion. - Bamipin might be considered as an adjunctive agent in most pruritic dermatoses.

PubMedID: 1583488 Village-scale trials of 50% emulsifiable concentrate (EC) and 40% wettable powder (WP) formulations of pirimiphos methyl (Actellic) were carried out against Anopheles sacharovi in Cukurova, Turkey. Susceptibility tests with wild caught, gonoactive and composite aged An. sacharovi over a range of chemical concentrations resulted in 100% mortality after exposure for 60 min to a 0.5% active ingredient concentration. Surface treatments of Actellic 50% EC at 0.9 g/m2 caused a significant decrease in parous rate and a 96.9% reduction in resting density. Persistence on concrete, wood, zinc and plywood was still high at the time of the second spray round, more than 7 wk postspray and ranged from 73% (zinc) to 98% (plywood). More than 50% mortality was still recorded 8 wk postspray using 1.6 g/m2 WP on wood, plywood, zinc and thatch substrates.

49. Concordance of Biochip-Based and LC-MS/MS Methods in Urine and Blood Samples in Screening for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine.

Abstract

Objectives : This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and reliability of LC-MS/MS and biochip-based screening in detecting narcotics from blood and urine samples. Materials and Methods : In this single-center study, a total of 250 subjects provided urine and/or blood samples: 234 provided urine and blood samples, and 16 provided only blood samples. Biochip-based narcotics screening was performed on 234 urine and 16 blood samples, and all samples were analyzed using tandem liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Results : The two most prevalent narcotics were methamphetamine and amphetamine, with both biochip-based array and LC-MS/MS. Cohen's kappa correlation indicated a substantial agreement between LC-MS/MS and biochip-based screening for both methamphetamine (κ = 0.661, p <0.001) and amphetamine (κ = 0.663, p < 0.001). LC-MS/MS demonstrated near-perfect agreement between urine and blood samples for both methamphetamine (κ = 0.855, p <0.001) and amphetamine (κ = 0.881, p < 0.001). Conclusions : Biochip-based arrays are a valid method offering a faster, less material-intensive alternative to LC-MS/MS for substance detection in forensic examination.

50. Evaluation of occupational eczema and work-related risk factors in sea fishers on the Mediterranean Coast of Turkey: A Cross-sectional study.

Background: Eczema is one of the most prevalent occupational skin diseases, with sea fishers being particularly vulnerable due to their harsh working conditions., Objective: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of occupational eczema among fishers and identify risk factors contributing to its development., Methods: A total of 119 fishers participated in this cross-sectional study, which was conducted in a single center on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Data were collected using two instruments: a "General Characteristics of Fishers Form," developed by the researchers based on relevant literature, and the Turkish version of the Nordic Occupational Skin Questionnaire-Long (NOSQ-2002/Long). Univariable analysis of eczema status was performed using the chi-square test, while a multivariable binary logistic regression model assessed the factors associated with eczema., Results: All participants were male, with a mean age of 40.13 (±11.62) years. The median daily working time was 15 (12-16) hours, and their median experience in fishing was 17 (10-25) years. The prevalence of eczema in the last six months was 52.9% (n = 63). Significant risk factors for eczema included being under 40 years of age, being married, poor health status, and having a family member who was a fisher., Conclusion: This study highlights the high prevalence of eczema among sea fishers and identifies work-related risk factors that contribute to its development.
