1. Peculiar Glitch of PSR J1119-6127 and Extension of the Vortex Creep Model

Abstract

Glitches are sudden changes in rotation frequency and spin-down rate, observed from pulsars of all ages. Standard glitches are characterized by a positive step in angular velocity ($\Delta\Omega$ $ > $ $0$) and a negative step in the spin-down rate ($\Delta \dot \Omega$ $ < $ $0$) of the pulsar. There are no glitch-associated changes in the electromagnetic signature of rotation-powered pulsars in all cases so far. For the first time, in the last glitch of PSR J1119-6127, there is clear evidence for changing emission properties coincident with the glitch. This glitch is also unusual in its signature. Further, the absolute value of the spin-down rate actually decreases in the long term. This is in contrast to usual glitch behaviour. In this paper we extend the vortex creep model in order to take into account these peculiarities. We propose that a starquake with crustal plate movement towards the rotational poles of the star induces inward vortex motion which causes the unusual glitch signature. The component of the magnetic field perpendicular to the rotation axis will decrease, giving rise to a permanent change in the pulsar external torque., Comment: accepted by MNRAS, 10 pages, 2 figures

3. EVALUATING THE IMPACT OF ORDER PICKING STRATEGIES ON THE ORDER FULFILMENT TIME: A SIMULATION STUDY

Abstract

A Distribution Centre (DC) is considered a critical node in providing optimal customer service levels in a supply chain network. Therefore, improving order fulfilment time at DCs becomes critical to achieve world-class operations. One of the key processes involved in order fulfilment is that of picking, the activity that consumes most time when fulfilling an order. This article presents the analysis of an actual system that stores products in a random fashion and releases orders following FIFO rules. A simulation model is built, and two scenarios analysed. The first one (baseline) reflects the current DC operation. The second scenario (projected) includes the implementation of three picking strategies aimed at improving system performance: slotting, wave picking, and expedite picking (balancing picker’s workload). The following KPIs are used to compare both scenarios: order fulfilment lead-time, picks per man-hour, average picking time per order, average time to pack an order. Simulation results show that the systematic implementation of the proposed strategies achieves substantial improvements, not only in the order fulfilment time (54% reduction), but also in the number of orders completed in less than 8 hours, the number of orders picked per man hour and a reduction of pickers idle time.

Abstract

the Internet of Things is being more and more adopted for applications in almost every application of today’s business. The ability to integrate the features of the web to the features of Internet of Things systems has led to more flexibility in managing data from almost any location and almost any device platform. The need to secure the exchanged data has made users have some hesitation towards comfortably adopting these technologies, so developers enhanced security measures through encryption, and creating some "lightweight" version of efficient cryptosystems. Having a decision system that guides the user on the best version of a ciphering algorithm means having a more efficient IoT based secured system. The proposed system uses fuzzy logic to provide indications to which variation of the algorithm to use for the exchanges messages, with certainty levels that would assist the user in choosing the most suitable ciphering algorithm.

Abstract

Cryptography is that the practice and study of hiding information. It is the science of reworking message to form them secure and resistant to attack. In cryptography, the original message is converted into other message at encryption side and converted into an original message at the receiver side. For constrained devices, normal cryptography algorithms can be too slow, too big or too energy-consuming. The term light-weight cryptography studies New algorithms to outdo this problem. Light-weight cryptography is generally defined as cryptography for resource- constrained devices, for which RFID tags and WSN are typically mentioned as examples. Light-weight encryption is a junction of two terms "Light and weight", and it is a sector of a classical cryptographic algorithm. Light-weight encryption and decryption are implemented on platforms as well as hardware and software. In this paper, present analyzing study on the common use of recent hardware H/W and software S/W implementations of symmetric as well as asymmetric ciphers.

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the role of L.Carnitine in enhancing the developmental progress of in-vitro produced bovine embryos. A total of 794 cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) were collected by the slicing method from the genitalia of unknown age and breed slaughtered cows. The COCs were divided into four groups and matured in TCM199 supplemented with four concentrations of L.Carnitine (0.0mg/ml, 0.3mg/ml, 0.6mg/ml and 1.2mg/ml), a concentration for each group. The results showed that the groups treated with 0.3 and 0.6 mg/ml recorded higher percentages of oocytes maturation (48.98% and 49.20%) respectively with significant (P<0.01) differences compared with control and 1.2mg/ml. Matured oocytes were fertilized by straws of frozen-thawed semen, and the resulted embryos were divided into four groups and cultured in media supplemented with the four concentrations of L.Carnitine (0.0mg/ml, 0.3mg/ml, 0.6mg/ml, and 1.2mg/ml) in order to investigate its effect on embryos developmental progress. Results showed that the concentrations (0.3 and 0.6 mg/ml) gave better percentages of embryo development (18.55% and 17.20%) respectively with significant (P<0.05) differences when compared with control and 1.2mg/ml. In conclusion, supplementation of in-vitro bovine oocytes maturation media and in-vitro embryo development media with 0.3 and 0.6 mg/ml of L.Carnitine improved significantly oocyte maturation and embryo developmental progress. Abstract

Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) among the wired and wireless networks, it still has a practical problem; where the congestion control mechanism does not permit the data stream to get complete bandwidth over the existing network links. To solve this problem, many TCP protocols have been introduced with high speed performance. Therefore, an enhanced congestion window (cwnd) for the congestion control mechanism is proposed in this article to improve the performance of TCP by increasing the number of cycles of the new window to improve the transmitted packet number. The proposed algorithm used a new mechanism based on the available bandwidth of the connection to detect the capacity of network path in order to improve the regular clocking of congestion avoidance mechanism. Abstract

Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) among the wired and wireless networks, it still has a practical problem; where the congestion control mechanism does not permit the data stream to get complete bandwidth over the existing network links. To solve this problem, many TCP protocols have been introduced with high speed performance. Therefore, an enhanced congestion window (cwnd) for the congestion control mechanism is proposed in this article to improve the performance of TCP by increasing the number of cycles of the new window to improve the transmitted packet number. The proposed algorithm used a new mechanism based on the available bandwidth of the connection to detect the capacity of network path in order to improve the regular clocking of congestion avoidance mechanism. The work in this paper based on using Network Simulator 2 (NS-2) to simulate the proposed algorithm.

23. Minimum glitch of the Crab pulsar and the crustquake as a trigger mechanism.

Abstract

We discuss the minimum glitch size of Crab observed by Espinoza et al. (2014). Modelling the crustquake as a trigger mechanism, we estimate the size of the broken plate. The plate size obtained, D ~ 100m is comparable to plate size estimates for PSR J1119-6127. The plate size naturally leads to an estimate of the number of unpinned vortices involved in the glitch, N ~ 1013. This number is of the same order in all Crab and Vela pulsar glitches. The minimum glitch relates the constancy of all these numbers among different pulsars to the basic plate size involved in crust breaking. This in turn depends on the critical strain angle θcr of the Coulomb lattice in the neutron star crust. The minimum glitch size implies θcr ~ 10-1 in agreement with theoretical and computational estimates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Purpose: 3D echocardiography (3DE) enables fast 3D acquisition but subsequent manual navigation to find 2D diagnostic planes can be time consuming. We have developed and validated an automated machine learning-based technique to find apical 2-, 3- and 4-chamber (A2C, A3C, A4C) views that enables fast volume navigation and analysis. Methods: 3DE volumes were acquired (Philips iE33: X3-1 and X5-1 probes) from 30 healthy volunteers and 36 clinical patients with suspected valve disease and coronary heart disease. 66 end diastolic volumes were used to assess the accuracy of apical standard view finding by our method against manual plane finding. To do this, dedicated software was developed with a machine learning approach and a 3-fold cross validation of results was performed. Results: Automatic A4C view detection was possible in 60/66 (91%) of volumes; detection failures were due to suboptimal myocardium wall integrity or lack of right ventricle in the scan. A2C and A3C views were extracted from the A4C view using the known geometrical relationships between apical standard views (A2C to A3C: 30°~40° and A2C to A4C: 90° of rotation over the left ventricle long axis, as shown in the Figure). In average, our method accurately found the heart apex and mitral valve centre with a 7.1 ± 5.7 mm and 7.2 ± 5.3 mm error, respectively. Conclusions: In order to automate clinical workflow, we have developed a new and fully automatic machine learning strategy for apical standard view finding which performed well (91% detection accuracy) on volunteer and clinical 3D echocardiograms. Abstract

In the study, folic acid doped Prussian blue nanoparticles (FA-PB NPs) for theranostic applications were synthesized for the first time. Folic acid was chosen for maintaining nanoparticle stability and also to increase its binding affinity especially for cancer cells. Multifunctional PB NPs were fabricated by one route co-precipitation method to synthesize biocompatible NPs without any further process. Then, FA was doped on the surface of PB NPs. The characterization studies demonstrated that the FA-PB NPs modified sensor surface had large surface area with biocompatible and hydrophilic properties where cancer cells can easily bind. The FA-PB NPs were used for the modification of pencil graphite electrode (PGE) for electrochemical detection of colon cancer cells (DLD-1). Electrochemical impedimetric diagnosis was based on the specific interaction between FA groups on the nanoparticles and FA receptors overexpressed on cancer cells. Abstract

A novel sensor platform modified with clay-protein based composite nanoparticles (Mt-HSA NCs) was developed to be used in electrochemical cytosensing application for the first time. The nanocomposite synthesized with desolvation method was structurally clarified by various characterization methods. Then, the working electrode was constructed by modifying the surface of the disposable pencil graphite (PGE) with physical adsorption to perform a simple sensor system. The characterization studies proved that the Mt-HSA NCs modified surface had a biocompatible, hydrophilic and large surface area where cancer cells can easily attach to the surface. As a diagnostic method, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), which has become very popular in recent years, was carried out. The linearity range was found as from 1.5 × 10 2 to 7.5 × 10 6 breast cancer (MCF-7) cells and the limit of detection was calculated as 148 cells mL -1 . From these results, a simple, effortless, cost effective and rapid electrochemical impedimetric sensor system for the diagnosis of breast cancer was developed by examining the interaction of Mt-HSA NCs/PGE surface with MCF-7 cells., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

Background: Pneumonia is a bacterial lower respiratory tract infection that has a high morbidity rate. The gram-negative pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a significant cause of nosocomial infections and ventilator-associated pneumonias and is mainly treated by carbapenems. Doripenem is a carbapenem drug, which has a broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. The aim of this study was to develop doripenem-loaded chitosan microparticles for pulmonary administration to provide more efficient treatment for pneumonia. Methods: Ionotropic gelation and the spray-drying method were used to obtain doripenem-loaded chitosan microparticles with different lactose, trehalose, and L-leucine concentrations. Physicochemical characteristics, in vitro drug release properties, and aerodynamics properties were investigated and in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility tests of the formulations were performed. Assessment of aerodynamic properties of the powders, including Mass Median Aerodynamic Diameter, size distribution, and fine particle fraction (FPF), were performed using a Next Generation Impactor. Cytotoxicity of the fabricated microparticles was assessed using the Calu-3 cell airway epithelial cell line. Results: Optimum microparticles were produced using a combination of ionotropic gelation and spray-drying methods. Spray-dried microparticle production yield was relatively high (74.03% ± 3.88% to 98.23% ± 1.70%). Lactose, trehalose, and L-leucine were added to the formulation to prevent aggregation produced by the ionotropic gelation spray-drying method. Each formulation's encapsulation efficiency was above 78.98% ± 2.37%. The doripenem-loaded microparticle mean diameter ranged from 3.8 ± 0.110 to 6.9 ± 0.090 μm. Microparticles with 20% (w/w) L-leucine had the highest FPF ratio indicating the best aerosolization properties of the formulations. The efficacy of the formulations as an antibacterial agent was increased by forming doripenem-loaded microparticles compared to blank microparticles. P. aeruginosa showed the same susceptibility to all doripenem-loaded microparticle formulations. Cell viability of microparticles was between 70% ± 0.08% and 90% ± 0.04% at 0.5 and 10 mg/mL concentration, respectively. Conclusions: Doripenem-loaded microparticles, produced using a combination of ionotropic gelation and spray-drying methods, are suitable for pulmonary drug delivery based on their particles size, zeta potential, cytotoxicity and high production yield. To our knowledge, this is the first study that microparticles containing doripenem were produced and characterized.

Abstract

Background: The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between the triglyceride/high density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio and the risk of acute myocardial infarction in young adults., Patients and Methods: A total of 621 patients, who underwent coronary angiography (CAG) due to Myocardial Infarction (MI) at our hospital were included in this study. Demographic characteristics, risk factor profile, laboratory test results, electrocardiographic and CAG findings were assessed in the selected groups., Results: Total cholesterol, triglyceride/high density lipoprotein cholesterol (Tg/HDL) ratio, Tg levels, were higher in younger patients with MI, while glucose and high-density lipoprotein levels were lower. Using propensity score matching in the matched population comparing young patients to the older ones, serum triglyceride levels [179 (145-231) vs 148 (101-197)] and triglyceride to high density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio [5.8 (4.1-9.1) vs 3.0 (1.8-4.6)] were significantly higher, whereas high density lipoprotein levels were observed dramatically lower (32.6 ± 8.2 vs 41.7 ± 8.8)., Conclusion: This study demonstrated that Tg/HDL ratio may be an important predictor for an acute coronary syndrome in the young adult population. Tg/HDL ratio can be used to prevent MI in young adults (Tab. 3, Fig. 1, Ref. 32.).
