The school function of children with cerebral palsy (CP) are affected by their disability. Cognitive impairments, especially in executive function (EF), can be a reason for these children's failure in school function. This study investigated the association between EF and school function (school participation, school physical activity performance) in children with Cerebral Palsy. This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study evaluated 98 children with CP who were diagnosed by a pediatric neurologist, aged between 7-12 years, had no simultaneous disabilities (blindness and deafness), were able to follow verbal instructions and had a Wechsler IQ score [greater than or equal to] 70. The children's school function was assessed using the School Function Assessment (SFA), and their EF was evaluated using the Tower of London test and the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF). After collecting data, they were analyzed using SPSS software version 23. The results revealed a significant positive correlation between the some EF components and school function (participation, activity performance). Similarly, there was a significant positive correlation between the total EF score with participation, travel, maintaining/changing position, recreational movement, manipulation with movement, using materials, setup/cleanup, hygiene, clothing management (p < 0.01), as well as eating/drinking, written work, and going up/downstairs (p < 0.05). The findings suggest that executive function is associated with school function (participation and physical activity performance) in children with CP. Therefore, it seems possible to improve children with CP's school function by promoting different EF components.

This study aimed to assess the content, concurrent validity, test-retest, and intra-rater reliability of the Persian version of the Functional Mobility Scale (FMS) for evaluating functional mobility in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP). Following international standards for measurement translation, we developed a Persian version of the FMS. A total of 160 participants took part in this study. Concurrent validity was assessed using Spearman's coefficient to correlate with the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS). Test-retest (n = 30) and intra-rater (n = 30) reliability of the FMS were also examined by Cohen's weighted kappa coefficient. Concurrent validity ranged from −0.912 to −0.941 for children and −0.912 to −0.936 for adolescents. Test-retest ranged from 0.902 to 1. Intra-rater ranged from 0.933 to 0.987. The Persian version of the FMS demonstrates very strong validity and almost perfect reliability for assessing and classifying functional mobility in children and adolescents with CP. AbstractSince self-efficacy or belief in one’s personal capabilities is an important predictor of rehabilitation outcomes, this study aimed to investigate the effect of motivational interviewing (MI) on the self-efficacy of stroke patients. Stroke patients (n = 34) participated in a single-blinded randomized control trial study. Both the intervention (n = 17) and control (n = 17) groups received the usual occupational therapy treatment with the intervention group also receiving a weekly session of MI for four weeks. Using a pretest and posttest design, the posttest was measured eight weeks after the last session of MI. General self-efficacy score, quality of life scores, and upper limb recovery scores did not significantly improve with time in either group. However, functional independence scores, and lower limb recovery scores (p = 0.001, and p = 0.003, respectively) were significantly improved in the intervention group compared to the control group. While MI did not effectively enhance self-­efficacy in stroke patients, occupational therapists could potentially enhance rehabilitation outcomes by incorporating MI in patient recovery. Background: Multiple sclerosis is the most important cause of non‐injury‐related disability in young adults. The disease has unknown causes and distresses and affects daily activities. While therapeutic interventions mainly focus on body function and structure to reduce impairment, Cognitive Orientation to Daily Occupational Performance (CO‐OP) is a cognitive approach that provides intervention at the level of activity and participation. Purpose: We aim to examine the effects of CO‐OP approach on fatigue, quality of life, occupational performance, and satisfaction in people living with multiple sclerosis; and to examine whether they could transfer strategies and skills learned during CO‐OP to untrained goals. Methods: A pre‐post design was used. Assessment tools included Montreal Cognitive Assessment, Multiple Sclerosis Impact Scale, Fatigue Impact Scale and the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure. Six individuals living with multiple sclerosis participated in 10 CO‐OP sessions twice a week. The sessions were held in an environment of the participants' choice, along with an extra session added to determine the goals. The study was registered in the ethics committee of University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences (IR.USWR.REC.1399.089). Results: The performance improved (2‐point positive change) in 12 out of 18 trained goals and in three out of six untrained goals (self‐report). The improvement was maintained at a 3‐month follow‐up assessment. There was a statistically significant difference in Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (χ2 = 11.565, p = 0.003 same for performance and satisfaction scores), Fatigue Impact Scale (χ2 = 7.000, p = 0.030), and Multiple Sclerosis Impact Scale scores over time (χ2 = 9.478, p = 0.009) respectively. Conclusion: The CO‐OP approach has the potential to improve daily activity performance, reduce pain, and improve the quality of life for people living with multiple sclerosis. Objective One of the important factors in choosing purposeful activities and defining the occupational performance of people is the cultural context in the society, which may have different effects in the lives of clients in Islamic countries. This cultural structure in Islamic countries is largely influenced by the religious beliefs that govern the society. The effect of Islamic culture on the occupational performance of clients has been studied less. This study deals with the review of articles related to the relationship between the context of Islamic culture and the occupational performance of clients in Islamic countries using the explicit content analysis method. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explain the effects of Islamic culture on the occupational performance of occupational therapy clients in Islamic countries. Materials & Methods The number of 46 studies using the keywords occupational therapy, Muslims and Islamic culture were initially selected until 2022 and the articles that were unrelated to occupational therapy and were not about Islam and Islamic culture were removed which finally reduced to 20 studies and then, they were subjected to qualitative analysis. Results The analysis of extractive studies has led to the emergence of different themes and categories, the theme of positive points has categories (importance of united family structure), (importance of religion in helping clients), (importance of pray as a purposeful activity) and theme challenges have categories (traditional treatments without clinical evidence), (importance of respecting the principle of Mahram in interpersonal communication), (specific beliefs in the cause of illness), (restrictions on praying), (cultural and local challenges), (hesitation in accepting occupational therapy philosophy). Conclusion In fact, Islam, with its influence on the family structure and the creation of positive beliefs and beliefs among the society, has been able to facilitate the process of occupational therapy and rehabilitation of clients to a great extent, but in the context of Islamic culture, there are many obstacles that unfortunately cause limitations. They are in interpersonal communication and acceptance of occupational therapy philosophy. Occupational therapists can use the opportunities to improve the client's performance, and in order to solve the challenges, it is necessary to do a lot of research to provide the necessary solutions. Objectives: Leisure participation is restricted among children with cerebral palsy (CP). This leads to adverse consequences on their health and well-being. Identifying the associated factors of leisure participation can help in planning interventions for its promotion. This study aims to investigate the correlation between leisure participation and parental life balance in children/adolescents with CP and their typically developing peers. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from January to April 2021, in Bojnourd City, Iran. The target population of this study was children/adolescents with CP between the ages of 7 to 17 years. We recruited 68 children/adolescents with CP and 66 of their typical peers using the convenience sampling method. All children and adolescents completed the children's participation and enjoyment questionnaire while their parents answered the life balance inventory questions. Results: The Mean±SD age of children/adolescents with CP was 10.13±2.53, and 54.4% were boys. The mean age of typically developing children/adolescents was 10.50±2.98, and 54.5% were boys. In the CP group, the mothers' life balance was correlated with the leisure participation of their children (P=0.01). Also, the fathers' life balance was correlated with the leisure participation of their adolescents (P=0.01). The correlation between the mothers' life balance and the leisure participation of their adolescents, and also between the father's life balance and the leisure participation of their children was not significant (P>0.05) in the CP group. The leisure participation of typically developing children and adolescents was not correlated with their parental life balance (P>0.05). Discussion: The leisure participation of children and adolescents with CP was correlated with the life balance of their parents. Occupational therapists and other health professionals are advised to consider the parental life balance in their plans to promote the leisure participation of children and adolescents with CP. Introduction: This study aimed to determine the validity and reliability of the Persian version of the Arm Function in Multiple Sclerosis Questionnaire which is a self-report questionnaire for persons with multiple sclerosis (MS). Method: This methodological study was performed in the following stages: translation, validity, internal consistency, and test–retest reliability of Persian-AMSQ. The Nine-Hole Peg Test (9HPT), Coin Rotation Task (CRT), and Functional Independence Measure (FIM) for construct validity were used. Psychometric testing was done to ascertain the validity and reliability of the questionnaire. Results: In this study, 155 people with MS participated. There were no major linguistic or cultural difficulties in the translation of AMSQ. Face and content validity confirmed by experts and people with MS. The internal consistency was high (Cronbach's α = 0.99). Test–retest reliability, as measured with intra-class coefficient, was 0.98. Correlations with 9HPT (r = 0.54), CRT (r = 0.16), and FIM (r = −0.54) were significant (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The Persian-AMSQ appears to be a valid and reliable questionnaire for measuring upper extremity dysfunction in MS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The disabled like others, need information and information acquisition skills to play a positive role in society. By providing a variety of resources and information services, the public library has an important role in providing services to the community, including the disabled, and can provide the background and opportunity for the presence of the disabled in society. The purpose of this study is to identify the requirements and characteristics of a disability-friendly public library. Methodology: The study was a descriptive applied study using a content analysis method and systematic search, to identify the requirements of public libraries to provide services to the disabled, in Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar, and PubMed. From the search in 4 databases, 738 documents were retrieved. Initially, all bibliographic information of articles and sources found from four databases were examined, extracted, and entered into EndNote X7 software, and duplicates were removed. In the next step, the titles of the remaining articles were examined. After reading the abstract of the remaining articles, if the article was deemed appropriate, their full text was studied. Finally, 40 documents were examined. Findings: The indicators and requirements used in public libraries in providing services to the disabled were divided into seven categories. In the category of policy and budget, the existence of appropriate policies and guidelines in the library to provide services to the disabled, in the category of advertising and development of services, the use of various methods of informing library services, in the category of accessibility and physical condition of the library, Existence of appropriate signs and boards to guide different sections of the library, in the category of services and programs, placing the safe desk in a suitable place and its availability for all groups, in the category of human resources and training, the presence of trained staff in The field of providing services to the disabled, in the category of collections, the existence of books in various formats and the category of equipment and information technology, the existence of assistive technologies (CCTV, Braille printers, screen magnification, etc.) have had the highest frequency. Conclusion: Identifying the services needed by the disabled and the characteristics of a library for the disabled can help in making informed decisions to provide appropriate services in libraries, especially public libraries. Public libraries must provide facilities and features for people with disabilities to use the services and access the information they need. Libraries should, in addition to assessing the needs of different groups of people with disabilities and the organizations and associations that support them, have the necessary planning and budget by providing the appropriate collection, accessible building, various services and programs, and the existence of various equipment and technologies. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a common pediatric disorder that results in a wide range of motor and functional problems that impose mobility limitations, decrease the quality of movement, negatively affect physical activity participation, self-care, and academic performance, and ultimately result in social isolation and negative self-evaluation. Despite abundant evidence of motor function, very few studies investigated all aspects of self-evaluation or described the relationship between motor function and self in individuals with CP. The present study aimed at investigating the relationship between functional motor status and self-evaluation in individuals with CP. A systematic search was performed in six electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, OTseeker, Web of Sciences, and Google Scholar) for English language articles from any date to May 2019. Screening, selection, and quality assessment were conducted by two authors independently. All studies recruiting individuals with CP and using functional motor status and self-evaluation tests were included. The AXIS checklist was used for the quality assessment of included studies. As all data sources were generated by published studies, ethical approval was not applicable to the present study. Seven articles met the inclusion criteria. These studies investigated the relationship between functional motor status and self-esteem and self-concept. Based on the AXIS, three articles were identified as high quality and four as low quality. The result of the present review showed that there was no relationship between self-concept and functional motor status in individuals with CP, while there was a significant relationship between self-esteem and functional motor status. Objective Cerebral Palsy is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in children. Due to the increase in the number of students with Cerebral Palsy (CP) entering ordinary schools and facing problems with independent functioning, there is a need for a valid and comprehensive assessment tool for their successful entry as well as providing a proper treatment plan. The School Function Assessment (SFA), by measuring many school-related functional skills, can identify the strengths and weaknesses affecting the students' independence and participation in school assignments. It has 320 items and three main parts of participation, task support, and activity performance. The test score can be reported in general or based on each part, separately. The purpose of this study is to examine the validity and reliability of the Persian version of the SFA in children with CP. Materials & Methods This is a cross-sectional study with methodological design. The study population consists of all children with CP aged 7-12 years in Tehran. Of these, 120 were selected from exceptional public school using a convenience sampling method. The inclusion criteria were: CP diagnosed by a neurologist, age between 7 and 12 years, no other disabilities (e.g. deafness or blindness), and the willingness of children's parents to participate in the study. A demographic form and the Persian SFA were used for data collection through interview. In order to measure the content validity, Content Validity Index (CVI) and Content Validity Ratio (CVR) were calculated according to the standard protocol of International Quality of Life Assessment. In this regard, 8 experts in the field of pediatrics completed the Persian SFA. To determine the test-retest reliability, the questionnaire was completed by the parents of children with a 4-week interval. The internal consistency and test-retest reliability were examined by using Cronbach's alpha coefficient and Intra-class Correlation Coefficient (ICC), respectively. Data was analyzed in SPSS V. 22 software. Results Participants were 64 boys and 56 girls with CP (mean age= 9.4 years). The distribution of CP was as follows: 10% hemiplegic CP, 27.5% diplegic CP, 5.8% monoplegic CP, and 56.7% quadriplegic CP. Eighty hundred-eight percent of respondents were the mothers of students. The CVR and CVI values were in a range of 0.7-1 and 0.87-1, respectively indicating an acceptable validity. All the items had acceptable content validity. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was obtained 0.95 for participation, 0.95-0.99 for task support, 0.83-0.99 for activity performance, and 0.92 in total. Moreover, the ICC value was reported 0.90 for participation; 0.84-0.91 for task support; 0.84-0.97 for activity performance; and 0.89 for the overall test. Conclusion The Persian version of SFA has acceptable content validity and reliability (internal consistency and test-retest) for children with CP. Background: There is uncertainty in identifying which aspects of functioning should be prioritized in the clinical brief assessment of children with cerebral palsy (CP). Brief ICF category sets specify the essential aspects of functioning that should be addressed in such assessments. Objectives: This study aimed to develop five brief ICF category sets based on the functional limitations of children with CP, as viewed by Iranian occupational therapists (OTs). Methods: This cross-sectional, multi-method study was conducted from January to May 2022 in Iran. Nineteen OTs were recruited through purposive sampling for a Delphi process, and ten OTs through snowball sampling for an expert panel, all experienced in CP and ICF. The Delphi involved two rounds of electronic surveys, where participants identified categories that should be minimally addressed in brief assessments of children aged 6 - 12 with CP based on their functional limitations. The content validity of these sets was then quantitatively evaluated by the expert panel. Results: Most confirmed categories in the gross and fine motor brief sets pertained to body structure and function, while those in the eating-and-drinking and communication-function brief sets related to cognition and motor reflexes. Categories in the visual function brief set mostly pertained to activity, participation, and environmental factors. Content validity ratio (CVR) and item-content validity indexes (I-CVI) ranged from 0.80 to 1 across all categories/brief sets, with scale-content validity index/Average (S-CVI/Ave) ranging from 0.95 to 0.98. Conclusions: These functional-based ICF brief sets are the first developed for children with CP in this age group and provide occupational therapists with tools to address crucial aspects of functioning, tailored to specific functional limitations. Objectives The aim of the present study was to explain the correlation between sleep disorders and function in children with spastic cerebral palsy (4-12 year). Materials & Methods This cross-sectional study was carried out on 62 children with spastic CP (8.98±1.46 yr) recruited from rehabilitation clinics of Tehran, Iran in 2017. The Activities Scale for Kids, The Sleep Disturbance Scale for Children and the cerebral palsy Quality of Life questionnaire for Children were utilized in this study. Data were analyzed using SPSS software. Results Children with sleep disorder and arousal disorders had lower family health, lower quality of life and lower level of independence in their activities (P< 0.05). Introduction The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of occupational performance coaching in mothers of children with cerebral palsy. Method A randomized controlled trial was used. Thirty mothers of children with cerebral palsy were randomly assigned to an occupational performance coaching group or control group. The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure and Sherer General Self-efficacy Scale were measured before and after the study. Results Occupational performance coaching had significant effects on participants' occupational performance and self-efficacy. In child-related goals, there was also a statistically significant difference between two groups (p = 0.05).Conclusion The results indicated that occupational performance coaching could be an effective intervention to increase the self-efficacy of mothers and improve the occupational performance of children and mothers of children with cerebral palsy. Background and purpose: Cerebral palsy is a common disorder in children leading to their dysfunction in many aspects. Therefore, to provide appropriate treatment plan that could improve the function of these children, a valid assessment tool is needed. Pediatric Evaluation Disability Inventory (PEDI) is designed to evaluate the performance of children with disabilities in three dimensions: self-care, mobility, and social function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability of the Persian version of PEDI in children with cerebral palsy aged 3 to 9 years old. Materials and methods: In this study, 75 participants were selected by convenience sampling. Information was collected using demographic questionnaire and Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS). The parents were interviewed and PEDI was completed. After two weeks, in order to evaluate the reliability of the test-retest, 22 parents were re-interviewed. Internal consistency was examined by Cronbach's alpha, and the reliability of the test-retest was assessed by intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC). Results: In examining the internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha was found to be high (0.94-0.98).The results of test-retest reliability of the functional skills and caregiver assistance scale were excellent (0.96-0.97). Also, the results of test-retest reliability in modification scale were excellent in self-care and social performance (0.99 and 1, respectively) and good in mobility dimension (0.66). Conclusion: This study proved the internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the Persian version of PEDI in evaluating the performance of Persian-speaking children with cerebral palsy. Background and Aim: Cervical vestibular-evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP) is one of the diagnostic tests used in assessing vestibular function. Two aims of this study were to investigate implications of cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential in children with spastic cerebral palsy (7-12 years), and to compare vestibular function in these children and normal children. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, myogenic potential was recorded in 31 children with spastic cerebral palsy (8 girls, 23 boys,7-12 years of age, with mean age of 8.77 years old and standard deviation of 1.52 years) and 31 normal children (13 girls, 18 boys with mean age of 8.77 years and standard deviation of 1.52 years). Cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential was recorded with 500 Hz tone burst. The recorded parameters included p13 and n23 latency, p13-n23 pick to pick amplitude, and threshold. Results: Myogenic Potential was recorded in 31 normal children. They had bilateral responses. In children with cerebral palsy, 21 children showed bilateral responses, 3 children had only right-sided responses, 8 children had only left-sided responses, and two children did not show any responses. The statistical significant differences were shown between the two groups in n23, p13-n23 pick to pick amplitude, and threshold (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings showed that cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential can be used in children with cerebral palsy. There were significant differences in myogenic potential parameters between the two groups. More studies are needed to investigate the causes of these differences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of an occupation-based intervention (OBI) on dexterity and occupational performance for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and to gather preliminary efficacy data., Methods: In this feasibility study, 2 women with MS participated in 12 OBI sessions that focused on increasing upper extremity function. The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure, 9-Hole Peg Test, Expanded Disability Status Scale, Montreal Cognitive Assessment, and Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) were used as outcome measures. The scores of these assessments are reported descriptively., Results: According to preliminary data, both participants demonstrated improvements in dexterity, occupational performance, and occupational performance satisfaction. These data suggest that OBI may be implemented effectively in Iran., Conclusions: OBI improved the functional use of the participants' upper extremities as well as their occupational performance and satisfaction with their occupational performance in each of the 2 women with MS. Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a life-long neurological disease. This study reviews the literature on the vocational rehabilitation (VR) of people who experience SCI., Methods: MEDLINE (via PubMed), Web of Science, EMBASE, Google Scholar, ProQuest, and Science Direct databases were searched. The inclusion criteria of the articles included the following: describing adults with SCI only, the English or Persian language, and involving people of workforce age. Conference abstracts, case studies, and editorials were excluded., Results: The eligibility of 186 full-text articles was assessed, and 124 studies met the inclusion criteria.
