1. DES J024008.08-551047.5:A new member of the polar ring galaxy family

Abstract

During the visual observations of optical imaging data obtained from the DECaLS, a serendipitous discovery emerged, revealing the presence of a ringed galaxy, DES J024008.08-551047.5 (DJ0240). We performed one dimensional isophotal and two-dimensional GALFIT analysis to confirm the orthogonal nature of the ring galaxy and identify distinct components within the host galaxy. We discovered the galaxy DJ0240 as a potential PRG candidate with a ring component positioned almost perpendicular to the host galaxy. The position angles of the ring and host components have been determined to be 80 and 10 degrees, respectively, indicating that they are nearly orthogonal to each other. We observed that the ring component extends three times more than the host galaxy and shows a distinct colour separation, being bluer than the host. The estimated g - r colour values of host and ring components are 0.86+/-0.02 and 0.59+/-0.10 mag, respectively. The colour value of the ring component is similar to typical spiral galaxies. The host galaxy`s colour and the presence of a bulge and disk components indicate the possibility of the host galaxy being a lenticular type. Based on the comparison of photometric properties between the PRGs and other ring-type galaxies (RTGs), our findings reveal a subtle, yet noticeable, colour difference between the host and ring components. We observed that both host and ring components of DJ0240 align more closely with PRGs than with RTGs. Furthermore, we compared the sersic index values of the ring component (nring) of galaxy DJ0240 with a selected sample of PRGs and Hoag-type galaxies. The results showed DJ0240 had a remarkably low nring value of 0.13, supporting the galaxy`s classification as a PRG. Abstract

Goats provide an essential food supply in the form of milk and meat. Goat milk has distinct qualities, but it shares many similarities with human and bovine milk regarding its nutritional and therapeutic benefits. Because of their different compositions, goat and cow milk products could have different tastes, nutrients, and medicinal effects. Modification in composition aid of goat milk determining the viability of goat milk processing methods. Comparatively, goat's milk has higher calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus levels than cow's or human milk but lower vitamin D, B12, and folate levels. Goat milk is safe and healthy for infants, the old, and healing ailments. Capric, caprylic, and capric acid are three fatty acids that have shown promise as potential treatments for various medical issues. Considering the benefits and drawbacks of goat milk over cow milk is essential; goat milk is more digestible, has unique alkalinity, has a better buffering capacity, and has certain medicinal benefits. Acidifying goat milk shrinks fat globules and makes protein friable (with less αs1-casein and more αs2-casein). Goat milk treats malabsorption illnesses because it has more short- and medium-chain triglycerides that give developing children energy. In wealthy countries, goat milk and its products—yoghurt, cheeses, and powdered goods—are popular with connoisseurs and persons with allergies and gastrointestinal issues who need alternative dairy products. A food product category containing fermented goat milk with live probiotic microbes appears promising nutritionally and medicinally. This article presents anecdotal evidence of the therapeutic effects of consuming goat milk for human health and its nutritional value.

9. Age and Growth Studies in Indian Oil Sardine (Sardinella longiceps) using Hard Part Microstructure, a Tool for Biological and Ecological Understanding

Abstract

Age and growth characteristics of the Indian oil sardine (Sardinella longiceps) was studied by interpreting microstructures on hard parts. Microstructures were validated to the time scales by observing their frequency of formation on hard parts of the fishes reared in confinement. Among the hard parts, sagittal otolith alone was found suitable for ageing the species as frequency of microstructure formation on them followed definite time scale. The estimates of age at length data and growth parameters from otolith analysis indicated faster growth in the species than the earlier estimates by other methods. Despite an expected sexual divergence in their growth, results show identical growth in both sexes. It further highlighted the prevalence of very distinct temporal growth variation driven by habitat environment indicating significance of hard part studies on ecological understanding of fishes. It also aided in tracing the precise time of birth with high precision, identifying the cohorts that supported the fishery and possible inter-regional migration of the species. The data generated from hard part ageing would aid in better eco-biological understanding of species, precise stock assessment outputs and fishery forecasting.
