Objective: This study aimed to obtain protein derivatives after treatment of whey proteins with hazelnut oil and olive oil and determined their effects on MCF-7 cells. Materials and Methods: Whey proteins obtained from 6% whey powder were treated with hazelnut oil (HO) and olive oil (OO) at a protein to lipid ratio of 1:10 at 60 ̊C for 120 minutes. The protein derivatives formed with whey protein and HO or OO were applied to MCF-7 cancer cells and healthy fibroblasts. The effects of protein derivatives on cell viability, apoptosis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, wound healing, cell cycle phase distribution and cell cycle related proteins Akt and p21(Waf1/Cip1) expressions were investigated. Results: Cell viability decreased significantly after 24 h of incubation with WP:OO. The percentage of apoptotic or necrotic cells varied between 5-10% and no statistically significant effect was observed. There was no statistically significant difference in ROS production and colony formation between controls and WP:HO or WP:OO groups. Treatment of cells with WP:OO for 24 h significantly decreased cell migration compared to the control group. G2/M phase was significantly suppressed in WP:OO group compared to the control group. WP:OO also increased the expression of p21(Waf1/Cip1) significantly when compared with the control group. Conclusion: Our results showed that whey protein derivatives applied to MCF-7 cells are cytotoxic and may be useful in breast cancer treatment.

The difficulty associated with storing closures in a stack-based environment is known as the funarg problem. The funarg problem was first identified with the development of Lisp in the 1970s and hasn't received much attention since then. The modern solution taken by most languages is to allocate closures on the heap, or to apply static analysis to determine when closures can be stack allocated. This is not a problem for most computing systems as there is an abundance of memory. However, embedded systems often have limited memory resources where heap allocation may cause memory fragmentation. We present a simple extension to the prenex fragment of System F that allows closures to be stack-allocated. We demonstrate a concrete implementation of this system in the Juniper functional reactive programming language, which is designed to run on extremely resource limited Arduino devices. The purpose of current study is to determine the expectations of preservice special education teachers regarding Teaching Practice course and practice schools where the course is being carried out. The case study design was used in the study. A total of 75 preservice special education teachers (for students with intellectual disabilities), who took Teaching Practice I course participated in the study. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview form with open-ended questions. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The inter-rater reliability was found to be 97% on average. Findings indicate that the expectations of preservice teachers related to Teaching Practice course are consistent with the goal, content, procedure, and evaluation of Teaching Practice course. Preservice teachers have both professional and personal expectations from professor. Preservice teachers also have physical and social expectations from schools where course is being carried out as well as professional and personal expectations from school staff. Findings are discussed in relation to future research and practice

Objective: Ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) is an appropriate irrigant for smear removal. This study aims to compare the smear-removing capacity of chitosan in combination with photon-initiated photoacoustic streaming (PIPS) to that of EDTA. Methods: Forty-five human mandibular premolar teeth were included. Root canals were prepared with OneShape files. The samples were randomly divided into three equal groups. The final rinsing was done as follows. Group 1: 0.2% chitosan irrigation with PIPS irradiation; Group 2: 0.2% chitosan alone; and Group 3: 17% EDTA. Introduction: In this multicenter study, we analysed the magnitude of healthcare worker (HCW) [infection control practitioner (ICP), nurses and others] workforce in hospitals participated in the study. Materials and Methods: This study was performed in 41 hospitals (with intensive care units-ICU) located in 22 cities from seven regions of Turkey. We analysed the ICP workforce, nursing and auxiliary HCW (AHCW) workforce in ICUs, number of ICU beds and occupied beds in four different days [two of which were in summer during the vacation time (August 27 and 31, 2016) and two others in autumn (October 12 and 15, 2016)]. The Turkish Ministry of Health (TMOH) requires two patients per nurse in level 3 ICUs, three patients per nurse in level 2 ICUs and five patients per nurse in level 1 ICUs. There is no standardization for the number of AHCW in ICUs. Finally, one ICP per 150 hospital beds is required by TMOH. Results: The total number of ICUs, ICU beds and ICPs were 214, 2377 and 111, respectively in he 41 participated centers. The number ICPs was adequate only in 12 hospitals. The percentage of nurses whose working experience was 2. In this study, soybean biodiesel fuel was blended in 20 vol.% with diesel fuel and tested in a single cylinder, DI, four-stroke diesel engine under four different engine loads (15, 11.25, 7.5 and 3.75 Nm) and 2200 rpm engine speed with different EGR rates (5, 10, 15%). The results showed that the maximum heat release rate and maximum in-cylinder pressure were mostly increased with the combined effects of biodiesel fuel addition and EGR application. Premixed combustion fractions were generally increased at all the engine loads with corresponding decrease in the diffusion combustion fractions. Combustion durations were generally stable while the center of the heat release rates shifted toward TDC. Reasonable increments on the BSFC and reductions on BTE as a maximum 6% and 3% occurred with 15% EGR, respectively. NO. and smoke emissions were improved simultaneously up to 55% and 15% at the high engine load, respectively. THC emissions at the low and medium engine loads decreased while deteriorations were observed with more than 5% EGR at the high engine load. Although CO emissions showed insignificant changes, there were increments at the high engine load. However, CO2 emissions were slightly higher for all the engine loads. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. In the researches was aimed to be examined of the relationship between the mother's personality and temperament of children and determining variables which affect personality characteristics of mothers and temperament of the children’s. Mothers of children between the ages 4-5 in the private nursery school located in the county Sincan of Ankara were included in the study(n:110). As data collection tool was used to determine socio-demographic characteristics of mothers and children "General Information Form" prepared by the researcher, the temperament of children "Short Temperament Scale for Children" and the personality characteristics of the mother " "Based on Attributes Personality Test". OBJECTIVES The objective of this study is to determine the symptom distributions of patients with advanced cancer as well as the factors affecting these symptoms. METHODS As a descriptive study, it was carried out in the palliative care and medical oncology clinics of a University located in Izmir between 2011–2012 and 164 cancer patients. Research data were obtained by using Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS) and Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS). RESULTS 52.4% of the patients participating in the research were male. Total score of ESAS scale was 45.58±12.41. A relationship was found between the symptoms of pain and drowsiness and performance levels of the patients (p0.05). CONCLUSION It was determined that total symptom levels of patients were high, they experienced the pain and fatigue symptoms intensively. © 2015 Turkish Society for Radiation Oncology.
