The purpose of the current study is to investigate the empathy and levels of social problem solving skills of physical education and sports teacher candidates. The research group of the study, which was carried out through relational screening model was made up of 148 candidate teachers of physical education (53 female, 95 male) in total studying in the departments of Physical Education and Sport Teaching in 5 universities in Turkey. As a data collection tool, the information form including personal characteristics of the participants, Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), and Social Problem Solving Inventory-Short Form (SPSI-SF) were used. For the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and Pearson Correlation Analysis were employed. The data obtained in the study indicated that there was a significant relationship between the emphatic skills of the physical education candidate teachers and of social problem solving skills. Depending on the variable of gender, the mean scores of the females were higher in the sub dimension of emphatic concern compared to those of males. In addition, males had higher scores in the avoidance style, which was considered the sub-dimension of social problem solving skills compared to females. As for the age factor, while there was no difference in the empathy variable, a significant and positive relationship was found in the social problem solving skills. In addition, it was determined that those doing non-contact sports approached the problem positively, while the ones doing contact sports approached the problem in an avoidance style. As a conclusion, it is likely to say that the empathy skills of the physical education candidate teachers are directly and positively related to their social problem solving skills. In this sense, the empathy education that physical education candidate teachers who are in an active relationship with students must have in order that they could have a solution based approach to the problem they are likely to encounter in this communication is of great importance.

Introduction: Psoriasis is a widespread chronic inflammatory skin disease; enthesitis is inflammation of the tendon, ligament, and joint capsule insertion, prevalent in patients with psoriatic arthritis. Objectives: The aim of the study to evaluate the utility of the Madrid Sonography Enthesitis Index scoring system for accurate detection of subclinical enthesitis in patients with Psoriasis compared with healthy controls. Another objective was to assess increase in enthesis area and Psoriatic arthritis incidence, in a prospective 1-year follow-up. Method: Patients aged ≥18 years who were diagnosed with Psoriasis, without musculoskeletal complaints, and who did not have any clinical sign and/or symptom of enthesitis and synovitis were included in the study. The patients and healthy controls were evaluated with ultrasonography. Ultrasonography evaluation consisted of the detection of gray-scale enthesitis and power Doppler signal in the enthesis areas. The Madrid Sonography Enthesitis Index scoring system was used to quantify the extent of the sonographic enthesis abnormalities. Results: The mean MASEI score, structure, thickness, erosion, and calcification were significantly higher in the Psoriasis group than in the control group. The mean MASEI score, structure, erosion, and calcification measurements were significantly higher at the last examination when compared to the first examination. The triceps was the most commonly affected tendon in both groups. Conclusion: Ultrasonography is an important tool for diagnosis and follow-up of subclinical enthesitis in patients with psoriasis. Regardless of disease duration and severity, patients should be screened using ultrasonography at yearly intervals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Suction cups, which provide high retention, are not being recommended anymore because of the destructive effect of the negative pressure on the palatal tissues. It is known that dentures with suction cups can cause perforations in the palate. In this case report, an oronasal communication caused by a denture with suction cup in a patient who had previously undergone pleomorphic adenoma excision of the palate is presented. In this investigation, our main objective is to ascertain the radii of k-uniform convexity of order and the radii of strong starlikeness of the some normalized q-Bessel and Wright functions. In making this investigation we deal with the normalized Wright functions for three different kinds of normalization and six different normalized forms of q-Bessel functions. The key tools in the proof of our main results are the Mittag-Leffer expansion for Wright and q-Bessel functions and properties of real zeros of these functions and their derivatives. We also have shown that the obtained radii are the smallest positive roots of some functional equations.

Artemisinin, an antimalarial drug, has anticancer activity and possesses protective effects against several tissue injuries. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of artemisinin on doxorubicin-induced renal and testicular toxicity in rats. Doxorubicin was administered to rats at a single dose of 10 mg/kg body weight (b.w.) as a single intraperitoneal injection. Application of artemisinin was by using oral gavage feeding needle for 14 days at different specified doses (7 mg/kg and 35 mg/kg b.w.). At the end of the experiments, kidney and testis samples were collected and used for histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations. At histopathological examination, while hyperemia was the marked finding in kidney and testis of rats treated with doxorubicin only, no evidence of structural abnormalities showed in other groups. Immunohistochemical examination of the testes and kidneys demonstrated significantly increased expression of caspase-3, TNF-α, iNOS and NF-κB in rats treated with doxorubicin only. Artemisinin decreased the doxorubicin-induced overexpression of NF-κB, iNOS, TNFα and caspase-3 in these tissues of rats. Artemisinin can protect the kidney and testis against doxorubicin-induced nephrotoxicity and testotoxicity, probably through a decrease of caspase-3, TNF-α, iNOS and NF-κB expressions. It may be concluded that artemisinin has a potential for clinical use in the treatment of kidney and testis damage induced by doxorubicin. Further researches are required to determine the appropriate combination of artemisinin with doxorubicin.

Objective: Spinal accessory nerve (SAN) injuries cause considerable shoulder joint dysfunction and pain, but are often underdiagnosed or diagnosed late. The aim of this study was to present the clinical and electrophysiological features and response to conservative treatment of the patients with late-diagnosed SAN injury. Design: Nine patients diagnosed with SAN injury based on clinical and electrophysiological examinations were evaluated. All patients were treated with a standard physical therapy and rehabilitation program and then received home exercise program. Shoulder pain during rest and activity and pain causing sleep disturbances were evaluated using a visual analog scale. Constant scale investigated shoulder function. Shoulder disability questionnaire evaluated daily living activities. Results were assessed before treatment, after one month of treatment, and years after treatment. Results: According to the electrophysiological studies, seven patients had partial and two patients had total axonal SAN injuries. The delay from the time of injury to diagnosis ranged between 12 and 84 mo (median 14 mo). When compared with the baseline values, visual analog scale, Constant scale, and shoulder disability questionnaire scores were significantly improved in all of the patients. Conclusions: For patients with late-diagnosed SAN injury, conservative treatment seems to be an effective treatment option. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article provides an overview of tile sinus lift operation, including radiographic evaluation of the procedure. Plain radiographs such as dental or panoramic radiographs have conventionally been used to measure the bone volume in the operation site, but full three dimensional assessment of the region before and after the sinus lift operation is advisable both to allow planning of the lift and to see the results of it. The general radiologists sometimes misinterpret the graft material used in sinus lift cases as odontogenic turnout or some other pathology. The aim of this article is to put an end to this wrong interpretation and to familiarize the general radiologist with pre operative and post operative imaging of sinus lilt cases. Subacromial impingement syndrome is a frequent cause of shoulder pain and it is readily confused with other shoulder problems. We present a patient with herpes zoster infection associated with axillary mononeuropathy that was initially misdiagnosed as subacromial impingement syndrome. A 75-yr-old female patient was admitted to the internal medicine clinic because of pain and weakness in her right shoulder. As she did not respond to medical treatment and local injection therapy, magnetic resonance imaging of the right shoulder was ordered. As the magnetic resonance imaging revealed subacromial impingement of the supraspinatus tendon, the patient was referred to the physical medicine and rehabilitation department for rehabilitation. In our initial physical examination, her shoulder abductor muscle strength was 2/5 and her shoulder external rotator muscle strength was 3/5. A subacromial injection test with 10 ml of 1% lidocain was negative and the magnetic resonance imaging did not show a complete rotator tendon rupture that could explain such a muscle strength loss. So, an electrodiagnostic evaluation was performed and the patient was diagnosed to have a right axillary neuropathy. A more detailed questioning of the patient disclosed a history of herpes zoster approximately 3 mos ago. Herpes zoster-associated axillary neuropathy can mimic subacromial impingement syndrome, and magnetic resonance imaging examination alone may lead to a misdiagnosis. Background: Subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS) is the most common cause of shoulder pain. Acupuncture is a traditional medicine that is effective on pain. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of acupuncture treatment on pain, function, range of motion (ROM) and quality of life compared to sham acupuncture in patients diagnosed with SIS., Methods: A randomized, prospective, double-blinded, sham-controlled trial was conducted. In acupuncture group 40 participants received acupuncture treatment plus exercise therapy while in control group 40 participants received sham acupuncture plus exercise therapy. Primary outcomes included pain-rest, activity and night pain. Secondary outcomes included function [Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) and The Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Score (Quick DASH)], ROM, and quality of life [The Western Ontario Rotator Cuff Index (WORC)] in patients with SIS., Results: Both groups had significant improvements for pain-rest, activity night pain scores, SPADI, Quick DASH and WORC after treatment and at the first month follow-up. Significant improvements were recorded in the acupuncture group for all ROM after treatment and at the first month follow-up while in control group only in passive internal rotation. Acupuncture group had better improvements for Quick DASH, WORC and all ROM parameters after the treatment, as well as for all parameters except pain-night and passive flexion at the first month follow-up., Conclusion: This study suggest that acupuncture treatment is a safe, effective and non-invasive treatment option in patients with SIS., Trial Registration: The study protocol is registered at clinicaltrials.gov (NCT05794633)., (© 2024 Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine. Ultrasound (US)-guided suprascapular nerve block (SSNB) is a widely used procedure and while describing the US-guided SSNB in the suprascapular notch, the suprascapular fossa is often visualized and injection is performed in that location. Although it can be done in both location, to inject the right area, the terminology should be settled and the visualization of these areas which are unclear and confusing in the literature should be clarified.
