Today, although acoustic designs for different purposes are not realized in sports halls designed for sports activities, these halls are widely used for various events such as conferences and concerts. In this study; The main activity area in the Beşirli Central Tennis Court building, which was built for sports activities within the scope of the European Youth Games in Trabzon Province, was evaluated in terms of acoustics for different functional uses by computer simulation method. First of all, 3D models were prepared for the current conditions of the main sports event areas according to different audience occupancy rates. Then the models were transferred to the simulation program to evaluate the objective parameters of the sound. After obtaining the objective parameter values of the sound, 3D models of the hall were prepared again with the soundabsorbing mechanisms placed between the existing steel structural system on the ceiling plane of the hall, designed for the realization of sports, music and speech activities in the sports activity areas. The prepared 3D models were transferred to the ODEON V10 program and the simulation process was repeated. As a result of all simulations, the values of the objective parameters of the sound obtained for indoor sports activity areas were compared and evaluated with each other and the accepted optimum value ranges. Bunlar; tek bileşenli yalın formda derzli perforeli çimento bağlayıcılı akustik levha (Yalın-I levhası), geotekstil katmanlı iki bileşenli derzli perforeli çimento bağlayıcılı kompozit akustik levha (Geo-II levhası) ve polietilen esaslı kauçuk katmanlı iki bileşenli derzli perforeli çimento bağlayıcılı kompozit akustik levha (PE-II levhası).

INSECT sounds , *GRAIN storage , *SOUND recordings , *AGRICULTURE , *PESTS - Abstract
Insects in grain can cause serious problems, not only because they feed on the grains. Mass reproduction also causes additional moisture and heat due to the insects' metabolism. This leads to favourable conditions for moulds, which can cause major losses and the formation of mycotoxins. It is therefore important to detect and treat an infestation at an early stage. The "Beetle Sound Tube" system was developed as an acoustic early detection system for insects in grain, which makes it possible to detect even very low levels of infestation and inform the storekeeper by e-mail. The acoustic system remains in the grain during the storage period, and permanently records insect sounds. Challenges were encountered in the development of this acoustic monitoring system, such as analysing very quiet insect sounds in a noisy agricultural environment. In addition, the amount of data collected and the speed of analysis had to be optimised to achieve justin- time detection of insects. The acoustic tube system was developed for silos, flat stores and big bags and is therefore widely applicable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Kappe+ – evaluation of a traditional construction method as to its performance in today's context Due to their material volume, ceiling systems are one of the biggest challenges in mulit‐storey construction on the way to climate‐friendly building. Here, the traditional masonry cap ceiling proves to be a robust, efficient alternative with innovation potential. Compared to widely used reinforced concrete flat slabs, their production requires only 50 % of the grey energy. To further investigate their application potential, six ceiling systems for office or school use were comparatively examined. Detailed life cycle assessments (LCA) were carried out for these constructions based on pre‐dimensioning. While the reinforced concrete flat ceiling has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 136 kgCO2e/m2, the vault ceiling achieves a value of only 64 kgCO2e/m2 in the most favourable case. In addition to assessing the energy input in manufacturing, principles of a circular economy are applied on both the material and construction side. Within a framework of practical experiments, three transformations were carried out on the historical construction: by substituting the steel girders in the system with timber, a new type of timber‐masonry hybrid system is created; with the help of digital manufacturing tools, an economical and contemporary production method is demonstrated; by optimising the bricks used, the raw ceiling is enriched with multifunctional acoustic properties. Seahorses are marine biota that have distinctive body characteristics that can be distinguished from other fish. Male seahorses have brood pouches. Estimation of the presence of seahorses is still very limited, an effective approach is needed to detect the presence of seahorses. The approach is carried out with an underwater acoustic approach to predict the presence of seahorses by looking at observations, namely the strength of the target. This study aims to analyze the value of Target Strength (TS) of seahorses based on size. The method used is the method of collecting experimental data. The seahorse used collected ten samples. The object placement method uses the ikat method. The TS response value was recorded using a Simrad EK-15 instrument with a frequency of 200kHz and morphometric measurements were performed. Morphometric measurements in the form of standard length measurements, seahorse head length to record acoustic signals in 3 conditions, namely females, non-pregnant males and pregnant males. Analysis of the relationship between the value of the target strength with seahorse morphometrics using statistical analysis, namely linear regression, ANOVA analysis and Tukey's follow-up test. The resulting seahorse is a species of Hippocampus. The distribution range of the resulting TS response values ranges from -58.38 dB to -67.75 dB. The result of this study is the influence of the measuring variable on the TS value formed Kuda laut merupakan biota laut yang memiliki karakteristik tubuh unik yang dapat di bedakan dari ikan lainnya. This study addressed the auditorial necessity and visual potential of the deaf using acoustic and visual analysis simulation. Due to the poorly designed room acoustics, the deaf people had difficulties communicating, despite the use of hearing aids or cochlear implants. This condition often causes some distorted sound waves in hearing aids. To compensate for the deficiency in auditory abilities, the deaf people relied on their peripheral vision as a source of information for communication. However, the understanding of parameters of room geometry that are necessary to support both the acoustic and visual qualities of the deaf was limited. Based on the depthmapX and Ecotect simulations, this study discovered that the source of the sound in space should come from the top to minimise the reverberation time. Spaces in the form of pockets and with organic enclosure also minimise the reverberation time and sound reflection, achieving privacy while maintaining the potential peripheral vision of the deaf. The study also revealed that a room with acoustic and visual qualities for the deaf should incorporate three concepts, i.e., an enclosure to achieve a certain level of privacy and sound reverberation; integration of spatial visibility following the room or wall orientations; and consideration of the use of materials to absorb the different frequencies of sound.

- Abstract
Open-plan offices are common in many companies due to their numerous advantages, such as lower costs, faster information exchange, and a more social atmosphere compared to having separate rooms for all employees. Despite these benefits, open-plan office layouts also come with drawbacks, primarily various distractions or eavesdropping. Sound masking can be part of the solution to creating a more pleasant office environment, but for sound masking not to become an annoyance, the sound level, sound type, and filtering need to be correct. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how different filtering and sound levels of a natural sound affect STI in an open-plan office and how this, in turn, affects speech intelligibility in practice. To answer the thesis's objective, sound measurements were conducted at AFRY's office in Solna, Sweden, with four different filterings on a masking sound. Additionally, a hearing comprehension test based on Hagerman's sentences was conducted to assess the impact on speech intelligibility. The results show that filtering at 4 kHz increases the office's STI while also improving speech intelligibility. However, the discussion concludes that this increase is marginal and therefore filtering can be an effective way to change the character of the masking sound for increased comfort.

- Abstract
The purpose of this report was to investigate how an intake for a battery-powered leaf blowershould be designed to reduce sound emissions. A reduced sound emission improves both theworking environment for the user but also reduces disturbances to the surroundings. The workbegan with a market analysis of different leaf blowers’ intakes. Other industries and differenttypes of noise reduction systems were also investigated. The market analysis stated that animplementation of Helmholtz resonators in an intake has great potential to reduce the tonalsound that a battery-powered leaf blower emits. As the sound image of a battery-powered leafblower is very tonal, the idea with resonators was to reduce the tonal spikes to achieve a lowersound level. If the work could prove that the resonators provide a high effect in the area aroundthe tonal sound spikes, then with some optimization, the resonators could be adapted and lowerthe sound equally at these frequencies. The work then progressed with testing whetherresonators work effectively. The result of the test showed that resonators can dampenfrequencies with high power, which led to the work continuing with a Concept Generation. The concept generation resulted in four different concepts that all had different placements andimplementations of resonators in the intake. These concepts were tested again and comparedto a reference that did not have any sound dampening features. From this test, two conceptsperformed at a high level, which were Back Cone and Big and Large, and these were furtherdeveloped. Further development produced four different variants of Big and Large. These werevariants with different numbers of resonators. Back Cone was produced in three differentvariants with different sizes of resonators. The purpose of these variants was to investigate howthe size and number of resonators affect the sound dampening ability. These variants weretested according to ISO-22868:2021. The final test revealed that four prototypes

- Abstract
Verket Om arkitektur skrevs omkring år 10 fKr och är i sin helhet en lärobok eller handledning inom arkitektur men beskri, Investigations of acoustical environments as contributing to culture-historical value has not been widely studied within the field of built heritage. Lack of knowledge of the acoustical aspects of cultural heritage might result in the undervaluing of potentially significant culture-historical elements, which risk making acoustic environments more difficult to protect and preserve. The thesis aims to analyse to what degree the acoustics can be seen as a part of a buildings' culture-historical value and whether the acoustics add other significant values. The method used was based on literature studies, interviews with key persons and field studies. The theoretical perspective is twofold, considering acoustics as intentional or unintentional, i.e. architecture designed for acoustical purposes and acoustics as a result of the architecture or natural formations. Four buildings have been selected for analysis: The Gothenburg Concert Hall, the water reservoir Kulturtemplet in Gothenburg, Mimerlaven in Norberg and a silo at Fengersfors Bruk. In summary, it is concluded that the acoustics in The Great Hall in The Gothenburg Concert Hall can be seen as part of the building's culture-historical value. The acoustics symbolizes the scientific perspectives of the early 20th century, functionalist ideals, as well as the 1930s musical ideals, just before the breakthrough of amplified music. The other objects are examples where the acoustics contribute to the experiential value, which in turn has created, or has the potential to create, possibilities for new ways to use the buildings.

- Abstract
When discussing sound in the landscape, it is most common for landscape architects to talk about how the soundscape is experienced and how it can be manipulated. But rarely do we discuss or create landscapes with the aim of emphasizing specific types of sound, such as acoustic musical performances. In indoor concerts, it is of great importance that the acoustic design fits the type of music played and enhances the music by creating an enveloping effect. However, we rarely see examples of acoustic design in the landscape. This project explores the potential of stages in the landscape that are designed to create good acoustics. The design was carried out in collaboration with Giresta Church, which has recently acquired a plot where they plan to build an outdoor stage. The question is therefore not only whether it is possible to create an outdoor stage based on good acoustics, but also whether it is possible to do so in harmony with Giresta's cultural history. The design of the stage was based on design principles that were developed according to an evidence-based design process. First, information about both acoustic design and the cultural history and conditions of the area was gathered in the preliminary study, then these were combined into a common list of design principles, the primary focus of which was determined to be to create good reverberation while relating to the cultural heritage of the site. The resulting design consists of a stage and a seating area, located adjacent to vast croplands. The seating area consists of an amphitheatre surrounded by a wooden and acrylic glass screen, both to reflect sound and protect against the weather. The stage itself is placed opposite the seating area with the agricultural landscape in the back, where an acoustic shell made of wood reflects the sound from the performers out towards the audience. The concept The Sea and The Vessel relates the site's position in the landscape as a point of intersection between the open fie

Digital development using target values and criteria is necessary to reduce the development costs and duration of a vehicle. For this reason, a methodology is developed, from problem formulation and model creation to target value development, which can be used to derive new target values. The methodology is applied to the example of the low-frequency noise comfort of a vehicle.

ABSORPTION of sound , *HELMHOLTZ resonators , *CONCRETE blocks , *SOUNDPROOFING , *POLYESTER fibers , *LIGHTWEIGHT concrete - Abstract
Sound insulation is a kind of measure to prevent sound waves from penetrating through a material. Good sound absorbing materials are known to be lightweight, loose, and porous products. In this study, a new design approach is presented to improve the sound insulation properties of lightweight aggregate concrete blocks. Within the scope of the study, pumice, and volcanic tuff were used as lightweight aggregates in the production of concrete blocks. The acoustic properties of the masonry block specimens, in which alternative sound absorbing environments with special design are created, were analyzed on the model specimens. In particular, the effects of 3 different slit widths (12 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm wide) on the sound absorption performance of the masonry block element, in which the Helmholtz resonator form was created in its design, were investigated. The geometry of the lightweight concrete blocks is designed with three rows of gaps, and on the outer facing of the block, 4 sound slits were created at 80% of the block height to increase the sound absorption capacity, and the gaps on these sides are turned into open gaps. In addition, the technical findings of the design forms of polyester fiber felt used as reinforcement material to increase the sound absorption capacity of the block were also discussed comparatively. According to the study findings, it has been determined that as the slit width in the block design gets larger, the amount of sound received into the cavity volumes in the form of Helmholz resonator increases, and therefore it functions more as a sound absorber. In addition, with the polyethylene fiber felt reinforcement, an additional sound absorbing performance of 1.67 times is provided in the 16 mm slit block and 1.74 times in the 20 mm slit design block. SOUND recordings , *MINERAL wool , *NOISE control , *PLYWOOD , *QUARRIES & quarrying - Abstract
The article initially deals with the difficulties that can arise when sound recordings of archaeological sound objects are made in museum rooms. In order to reduce these problems as much as possible, a simple but effective, sound-reduced recording chamber has been developed. It is used in the FWF (Austrian Sciences Funds) project "Metallic Idiophones between 800 BC and 800 AD", which investigates bells, pellet bells, and jewelleries with jingles. The chamber was constructed from 8 mm thick poplar plywood panels. Its isolation consists of a double layer of mineral wool, Rockfon Facett Plano 20 mm. Measurements have shown a reduction of background noise by up to 21.4 dB SPL in various museum rooms. The transportable recording chamber is weighing only 7 kg and is therefore ideally suited for sound recordings in museums and other collections. This article describes shortly the making of the chamber and examines its noise reduction levels by means of a series of measurements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SOUNDLAB AI Tool – Machine learning for the determination of the weighted sound Insulation Value. Modern architecture strives for transparent building envelopes and, in particular, for sustainable and physically adequate glass facades. Typically, glass facades are designed to meet a variety of objectives, one of which is to satisfy sound insulation requirements. Reliable estimation of the sound insulation properties of arbitrary glass assemblies is time consuming and costly due to the complexity of experimental tests or numerical simulations. Therefore, this paper presents a machine learning approach for predicting the acoustic properties of various glass setups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Summary Singing with the wings – instrumental sound production in birds Bird wing and tail feathers are able to produce sound in flight and during related movements. Noisy sound is produced primarily as an epiphenomenon to the movements. The sound can, however, also include tonal or harmonic structures and can gain signal value when used in social situations. In a similar way, birds can produce sounds by clattering their keratin covered beaks. For the first time, in this article, the acoustic properties of instrumental bird sounds are analyzed using sonograms. Up to now the biological meaning of instrumental sounds in birds is inferred mainly out of the situations observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSORPTION of sound , *AUDIO frequency , *BARK , *ABSORPTION coefficients , *LARCHES , *PARTICLES - Abstract
Potential of tree bark for the application as sound absorbing material Tree bark is a highly optimized natural material, which protects a tree from manifold damage at the peripheral layer. Hence, bark has some interesting technological properties, such as a low density and a good biological durability. In the wood‐industry, huge amounts of bark in pieces accrue, which are used to a low extend for high‐value applications. In this investigation, insulation panels from larch bark were produced and their inner structure was evaluated by means of CT. The sound absorption coefficient of panels with varying composition was investigated using impedance measurement and structure‐property relationships were evaluated. It was found that larch insulation panels can be applied as effective sound absorbers for frequencies higher than 500 Hz and that the frequency with the highest sound absorption can be affected changing the particle size of the panels. In this study, Computer Laboratory in Physics Department and Analytical Chemistry Laboratory in Chemistry Department in KTU were examined acoustically. First of all, the acoustic evaluations of the current situation of the spaces were made according to the objective parameters of sound; reverberation time (RT), early fall time (EDT), prominence (D50), according to the intelligibility index of sound (STI). In the study, three-dimensional simulation technique method was applied and ODEON version 10 Acoustic Software was used as simulation program. The three-dimensional model was prepared in SketchUp8. In order to optimize to the values outside of the optimum range as acoustic, material changes were made on the surfaces of the spaces and all objective parameters were obtained at the optimum level. Background and Purpose: This paper aims to highlight the voicing contrast of Arabic and Malay fricatives produced by Malay native speakers. Previous studies show that Malay speakers often make mistakes on Arabic pharyngealisation. Methodology: This study, thus, analysed the frication duration characteristics of Malay and Arabic fricatives in initial word position and highlight their similarities and differences. The spectrographic analysis method via Praat software was utilized to enable the researcher to transfer speech recording data into a spectrogram and analysed acoustically. A total of 2960 spectrograms was obtained from the recording of 24 subjects' utterences. The subjects are undergraduate students of Arabic Studies and Islamic Civilization of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The recording process was performed in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UKM recording studio using TASCAM MP3 / WAV recorder. A word list that contains the fricative sound at the beginning of each word in both languages was read by subjects with comfortable speech level, i.e. neither slow nor too fast. Subjects were asked to repeat the word five times. Findings: The result of the acoustic analysis was manipulated using Statistical Package for Social Sciences. This study found that the fricative sound / s / is longer than the sound / z / for both languages. The findings also show that there is no significant relationship between sound / س / and / sˤ / and / / ز and / zˤ /. In particular, this study confirms that not all Arabic pharyngealisation are influenced by their native language. It can be mastered also by non-native speakers of Arabic. Contributions: This study provides significant implications for learning Arabic as a second language in Malaysia as well as the development of acoustic phonetics, particularly, in improving the fricative pronunciation of Arabic among native speakers of Malay. - Abstract
In the ergonomic design of places, physical indicators such as heat, temperature, humidity, light and sound should be provided in optimum conditions. Sound, which has an important place among the physical indicators, should not be perceived as noise but should be perceived in auditory boundaries depending on the function in places. The determination of this situation can be realized by acoustic control for the places. In this study, acoustical conditions in Classroom 270 in Civil Engineering and D-3 Classroom in Forest Engineering in KTU were evaluated according to the objective parameters of sound. Odeon Version 10 Software program were used for evaluations. In the study the objective parameters of sound which are reverberation time (RT), early fall time (EDT), clarity (D50) and the intelligibility index (STI) were investigated. Firstly, the objective parameter values of the sound were obtained for the current spaces and material changes were made on the surfaces of the spaces in order to obtain at the optimum limits to the parameters at outside the optimum range. After the material changes, the optimum conditions were obtained in terms of acoustic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lack of baseline knowledge is often the principal conservation barrier, especially if the species of concern shows steady decline. The primary goal of the current project is to fill the knowledge gaps in understudied cetacean populations through dedicated visual and acoustic surveys in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea of Turkey. The surveys were conducted over six seasons, following 4384.76 km in 49 days between April 2018 and July 2019. Cetaceans were detected on 39 days (146 sightings), with the highest sightings belonging to delphinids (bottlenose, common and unidentified dolphins) followed by sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) and a single acoustic detection of a beaked whale. Fethiye Canyon held the highest cetacean concentration and thus is identified as an "important habitat". Reported encounter rates were higher than previous studies, with 2.78 and 0.55 groups/100 km for delphinids and sperm whales, respectively. Despite the lack of significant variation in cetacean presence due to season and diurnal effects, there was a noticeable increase in summer sightings for sperm whales, where they were encountered as solitary individuals and social units with calves. The current research presented the first seasonal survey results of the Turkish Mediterranean and underlines the importance of local research efforts for valid conclusions in an understudied environment that holds not only unrecognized cetacean habitats but also a wide range of human pressures. I exhale. In the corner is a pile of cardboard boxes that I had just opened up. Stretched across the floor are many carefully measured lines of white duct tape. On the computer are countless browser tabs - from waves articles to small forums - telling me how to set up my new speakers. Equidistant triangles and other exact angles. All that is left to do is calibrate the volume so that each speaker reaches me equally. You see, I had decided to jump into surround sound. The thought of having a little personal cinema in my apartment to play with was not possible to pass on. I remember then sitting down in front of my digital audio workstation, with speakers surrounding me, and thinking.... Nowwhat? I had no idea what to do with it, what sound was supposed to go where, whether it should move or be still. I experimented with many surround things, never reaching a definite answer. I would go to the cinema to listen to other films - for research - but most of the time the sound never filled the room or left the screen, it is the spatial element of which I was mostly keen. What a waste. In the pursuit of discovering what surround means to me, the intimacy it can bring to a room; why mainstream films use it shyly, or don't use it at all. I discovered a rabbit hole., "Sound/Body" consists of a titular video essay, and "Surround/Body" - a complimentary text essay.
