Introduction: Prelacteal feeding practice contravenes the recommendation of World Health Organisation that breastfeeding be initiated within an hour of childbirth. Consequently, the health, social, emotional and economic benefits of optimal breastfeeding are limited. Therefore, to break this vicious cycle of prelacteal feeding and suboptimal breastfeeding, factors associated with the practice must be identified. Objective: To assess prelacteal feeding practices and its associated factors in a rural community with the view to generate data for community-level interventions that will promote optimal breastfeeding. Methods: Data was collected during a community-based surveillance for maternal, newborn and child health project in Tsibiri, a rural community in north-western Nigeria. The survey questionnaire was uploaded into mobile devices running on an android operating system. Trained female interviewers collected the data over a period of one week in 2011. Results: A total of 270 out of 309 interviewed women had experienced childbirth and were included in the analysis. Majority (85.2%) of respondents utilised prelacteal feeds for their newborns. Plain water was the most common prelacteal feed (44.7%). Prelacteal feeding was associated with births assisted by unskilled birth attendants (AOR 5.322, 95%CI 1.634-17.333); while operative delivery reduced the likelihood of the practice (AOR 0.168, 95%CI 0.060-0.470). No statistically significant association was found between use of prelacteal feed and women’s age, education or access to income. Conclusion: The predominance of prelacteal feeding practices underscores the need for innovative strategies that create awareness among mothers and health care providers, with emphasis on health facility deliveries, advantages of breastfeeding and risks of prelacteal feeding.

Soft robots are becoming more popular because they can solve issues stiff robots cannot. Soft component and system design have seen several innovations recently. Next-generation robot-human interactions will depend on soft robotics. Soft material technologies integrate safety at the material level, speeding its integration with biological systems. Soft robotic systems must be as resilient as biological systems in unexpected, uncontrolled situations. Self-healing materials, especially polymeric and elastomeric ones, are widely studied. Since most currently under-development soft robotic systems are composed of polymeric or elastomeric materials, this finding may provide immediate assistance to the community developing soft robots. Self-healing and damage-resilient systems are making their way into actuators, structures, and sensors, even if soft robotics remains in its infancy. In the future, self-repairing soft robotic systems composed of polymers might save both money and the environment. Over the last decade, academics and businesses have grown interested in soft robotics. Despite several literature evaluations of the soft robotics subject, there seems to be a lack of systematic research on its intellectual structure and development despite the rising number of articles. This article gives an in-depth overview of the existing knowledge base on damage resistance and self-healing materials' fundamental structure and classifications. Current uses, problems with future implementation, and solutions to those problems are all included in this overview. Background: Although radical cystectomy (RC) is considered the gold standard treatment of muscle invasive bladder cancer, nearly half of patients develop metastases and ultimately die within 2 years., Objective: To assess survival, evaluate different prognostic factors that may affect disease-free survival (DFS) in Saudi patients after RC for carcinoma of the bladder and to compare our results with those of Western countries., Design: Retrospective chart review., Setting: A tertiary care center in Saudi Arabia., Patients and Methods: We collected data on patients who underwent RC for bladder cancer in the period between 1979 and 2014. Demographic, clinical and pathological variables and the application of perioperative chemotherapy were reviewed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were done with DFS as the end point., Main Outcome Measure: Disease-specific survival., Results: On 328 patients for whom data was available, the median follow up was 23 months (range, 2 month-28 years) and median age was 58 years (range, 21-90). Of these patients, 268 were males (81.7%), 235 (71.7%) had urothelial carcinoma (UC), 79 (24.1%) had squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and 208 (63.4%) had pathological tumor stage 3 or more. The 5-year overall survival (OS) and DFS were 52% and 48%, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in DFS of patients with UC and pure SCC. On univariate analysis, lymph node status and pathological tumor stage were significant predictors of DFS. Both variables sustained statistical significance in a multivariate analysis., Conclusion: Survival following RC is almost the same as others. Moreover, pathological tumor stage and lymph node metastasis were the only independent predictors for survival following RC. Future cooperative prospective studies are required to gain data on our region., Limitations: Relatively small sample size and retrospective.

Cellular agent-based models are a technique that can be easily adapted to describe nuances of a particular cell type. Within we have concentrated on the cellular particularities of the human Endothelial Cell, explicitly the effects both of anchorage dependency and of heightened scaffold binding on the total confluence time of a system. By expansion of a discrete, homogeneous, asynchronous cellular model to account for several states per cell (phases within a cell's life); we accommodate and track dependencies of confluence time and population dynamics on these factors. Increasing the total motility time, analogous to weakening the binding between lattice and cell, affects the system in unique ways from increasing the average cellular velocity; each degree of freedom allows for control over the time length the system achieves logistic growth and confluence. These additional factors may allow for greater control over behaviors of the system. Examinations of system's dependence on both seed state velocity and binding are also enclosed.
