Sentiment analysis is the process of identifying and categorizing people's emotions or opinions regarding various topics. Analyzing political sentiment is critical for understanding the complexities of public opinion processes, especially during election seasons. It gives significant information on voter preferences, attitudes, and current trends. In this study, we investigate political sentiment analysis during Bangladeshi elections, specifically examining how effectively Pre-trained Language Models (PLMs) and Large Language Models (LLMs) capture complex sentiment characteristics. Our study centers on the creation of the "Motamot" dataset, comprising 7,058 instances annotated with positive and negative sentiments, sourced from diverse online newspaper portals, forming a comprehensive resource for political sentiment analysis. We meticulously evaluate the performance of various PLMs including BanglaBERT, Bangla BERT Base, XLM-RoBERTa, mBERT, and sahajBERT, alongside LLMs such as Gemini 1.5 Pro and GPT 3.5 Turbo. Moreover, we explore zero-shot and few-shot learning strategies to enhance our understanding of political sentiment analysis methodologies. Our findings underscore BanglaBERT's commendable accuracy of 88.10% among PLMs. However, the exploration into LLMs reveals even more promising results. Through the adept application of Few-Shot learning techniques, Gemini 1.5 Pro achieves an impressive accuracy of 96.33%, surpassing the remarkable performance of GPT 3.5 Turbo, which stands at 94%. In the rapidly growing field of wearable technology, optical devices are emerging as a significant innovation, offering non-invasive methods for analyzing skin and underlying tissue properties. Despite their promise, progress has been slowed by a lack of specialized prototypes and advanced analysis techniques. Addressing this gap, our study introduces, HydroTrack, an 18-channel spectroscopy sensor, ingeniously embedded in a smart-watch. Accompanying this hardware, we present signal processing and data analysis techniques implemented at the edge, designed to maximize the utility of our system in comprehensive health tracking. A pivotal application of our device is the real-time assessment of hydration levels in physically active individuals. We validated our prototype and analytical approach through experiments on six participants, focusing on hydration dynamics during physical exercises. Our findings reveal an accuracy of avg. 95% in determining hydration states.

In the U.S., over a third of adults are pre-diabetic, with 80\% unaware of their status. This underlines the need for better glucose monitoring to prevent type 2 diabetes and related heart diseases. Existing wearable glucose monitors are limited by the lack of models trained on small datasets, as collecting extensive glucose data is often costly and impractical. Our study introduces a novel machine learning method using modified recurrence plots in the frequency domain to improve glucose level prediction accuracy from wearable device data, even with limited datasets. This technique combines advanced signal processing with machine learning to extract more meaningful features. We tested our method against existing models using historical data, showing that our approach surpasses the current 87\% accuracy benchmark in predicting real-time interstitial glucose levels.

Numerous applications have resulted from the automation of agricultural disease segmentation using deep learning techniques. However, when applied to new conditions, these applications frequently face the difficulty of overfitting, resulting in lower segmentation performance. In the context of potato farming, where diseases have a large influence on yields, it is critical for the agricultural economy to quickly and properly identify these diseases. Traditional data augmentation approaches, such as rotation, flip, and translation, have limitations and frequently fail to provide strong generalization results. To address these issues, our research employs a novel approach termed as PotatoGANs. In this novel data augmentation approach, two types of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) are utilized to generate synthetic potato disease images from healthy potato images. This approach not only expands the dataset but also adds variety, which helps to enhance model generalization. Using the Inception score as a measure, our experiments show the better quality and realisticness of the images created by PotatoGANs, emphasizing their capacity to resemble real disease images closely. The CycleGAN model outperforms the Pix2Pix GAN model in terms of image quality, as evidenced by its higher IS scores CycleGAN achieves higher Inception scores (IS) of 1.2001 and 1.0900 for black scurf and common scab, respectively. This synthetic data can significantly improve the training of large neural networks. It also reduces data collection costs while enhancing data diversity and generalization capabilities. Our work improves interpretability by combining three gradient-based Explainable AI algorithms (GradCAM, GradCAM++, and ScoreCAM) with three distinct CNN architectures (DenseNet169, Resnet152 V2, InceptionResNet V2) for potato disease classification.

Lung and colon cancer are serious worldwide health challenges that require early and precise identification to reduce mortality risks. However, diagnosis, which is mostly dependent on histopathologists' competence, presents difficulties and hazards when expertise is insufficient. While diagnostic methods like imaging and blood markers contribute to early detection, histopathology remains the gold standard, although time-consuming and vulnerable to inter-observer mistakes. Limited access to high-end technology further limits patients' ability to receive immediate medical care and diagnosis. Recent advances in deep learning have generated interest in its application to medical imaging analysis, specifically the use of histopathological images to diagnose lung and colon cancer. The goal of this investigation is to use and adapt existing pre-trained CNN-based models, such as Xception, DenseNet201, ResNet101, InceptionV3, DenseNet121, DenseNet169, ResNet152, and InceptionResNetV2, to enhance classification through better augmentation strategies. The results show tremendous progress, with all eight models reaching impressive accuracy ranging from 97% to 99%. Furthermore, attention visualization techniques such as GradCAM, GradCAM++, ScoreCAM, Faster Score-CAM, and LayerCAM, as well as Vanilla Saliency and SmoothGrad, are used to provide insights into the models' classification decisions, thereby improving interpretability and understanding of malignant and benign image classification., Comment: Accepted in 4th International Conference on Computing and Communication Networks (ICCCNet-2024)

In Virtual Product Placement (VPP) applications, the discrete integration of specific brand products into images or videos has emerged as a challenging yet important task. This paper introduces a novel three-stage fully automated VPP system. In the first stage, a language-guided image segmentation model identifies optimal regions within images for product inpainting. In the second stage, Stable Diffusion (SD), fine-tuned with a few example product images, is used to inpaint the product into the previously identified candidate regions. The final stage introduces an "Alignment Module", which is designed to effectively sieve out low-quality images. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that the Alignment Module ensures the presence of the intended product in every generated image and enhances the average quality of images by 35%. Malware detection is an interesting and valuable domain to work in because it has significant real-world impact and unique machine-learning challenges. We investigate existing long-range techniques and benchmarks and find that they're not very suitable in this problem area. In this paper, we introduce Holographic Global Convolutional Networks (HGConv) that utilize the properties of Holographic Reduced Representations (HRR) to encode and decode features from sequence elements. Unlike other global convolutional methods, our method does not require any intricate kernel computation or crafted kernel design. HGConv kernels are defined as simple parameters learned through backpropagation. The proposed method has achieved new SOTA results on Microsoft Malware Classification Challenge, Drebin, and EMBER malware benchmarks. Quantum emitters, such as the negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond, are attractive for quantum technologies such as nano-sensing, quantum information processing, and as a non-classical light source. However, it is still challenging to position individual emitters in photonic structures whilst preserving the spin coherence properties of the defect. In this paper, we investigate single and ensemble waveguide-integrated nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond fabricated by femtosecond laser writing followed by thermal annealing. Their spin coherence properties are systematically investigated and are shown to be comparable to native nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond. While deep learning has enjoyed significant success in computer vision tasks over the past decade, many shortcomings still exist from a Cognitive Science (CogSci) perspective. In particular, the ability to subitize, i.e., quickly and accurately identify the small (less than 6) count of items, is not well learned by current Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) or Vision Transformers (ViTs) when using a standard cross-entropy (CE) loss. In this paper, we demonstrate that adapting tools used in CogSci research can improve the subitizing generalization of CNNs and ViTs by developing an alternative loss function using Holographic Reduced Representations (HRRs). We investigate how this neuro-symbolic approach to learning affects the subitizing capability of CNNs and ViTs, and so we focus on specially crafted problems that isolate generalization to specific aspects of subitizing. Via saliency maps and out-of-distribution performance, we are able to empirically observe that the proposed HRR loss improves subitizing generalization though it does not completely solve the problem. Differential Diagnosis (DDx) is the process of identifying the most likely medical condition among the possible pathologies through the process of elimination based on evidence. An automated process that narrows a large set of pathologies down to the most likely pathologies will be of great importance. The primary prior works have relied on the Reinforcement Learning (RL) paradigm under the intuition that it aligns better with how physicians perform DDx. In this paper, we show that a generative approach trained with simpler supervised and self-supervised learning signals can achieve superior results on the current benchmark. The proposed Transformer-based generative network, named DDxT, autoregressively produces a set of possible pathologies, i.e., DDx, and predicts the actual pathology using a neural network. Experiments are performed using the DDXPlus dataset. In the case of DDx, the proposed network has achieved a mean accuracy of 99.82% and a mean F1 score of 0.9472. Additionally, mean accuracy reaches 99.98% with a mean F1 score of 0.9949 while predicting ground truth pathology. The proposed DDxT outperformed the previous RL-based approaches by a big margin. Deep neural networks (DNN) have become increasingly utilized in brain-computer interface (BCI) technologies with the outset goal of classifying human physiological signals in computer-readable format. While our present understanding of DNN usage for BCI is promising, we have little experience in deciphering neural events from dynamic freely-mobile situations. Using an improved version of EEGNet, our goal was to classify cognitive events from electroencephalography (EEG) signals while subjects simultaneously walked on a treadmill, sometimes while carrying a rucksack equivalent to 40% of their body weight. Walking subjects simultaneously performed a visual oddball target detection task, eliciting the P300 event-related potential (ERP), which then served as the DNN classification target. We found the base EEGNet to reach classification levels well above chance, with similar performance to previously reported P300 results. We found performance to be robust to noise, with classification similar for walking and loaded walking, with respect to standard seated condition with minimal movement. With additional architectural search and tuning to the EEGNet model (termed Cog-Neuro, herein; CN-EEGNet), we reached classification accuracy of greater than 95%, similar to previously reported state of the art levels in seated P300 tasks. To our knowledge, these results are the first documented implementation of a DNN for the classification of cognitive neural state during dual-task walking. The classification of one's ongoing cognitive state during a demanding physical task establishes the utility for BCI in complex environments.

Privacy-preserving crowd density analysis finds application across a wide range of scenarios, substantially enhancing smart building operation and management while upholding privacy expectations in various spaces. We propose a non-speech audio-based approach for crowd analytics, leveraging a transformer-based model. Our results demonstrate that non-speech audio alone can be used to conduct such analysis with remarkable accuracy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time when non-speech audio signals are proposed for predicting occupancy. As far as we know, there has been no other similar approach of its kind prior to this. To accomplish this, we deployed our sensor-based platform in the waiting room of a large hospital with IRB approval over a period of several months to capture non-speech audio and thermal images for the training and evaluation of our models. The proposed non-speech-based approach outperformed the thermal camera-based model and all other baselines. In addition to demonstrating superior performance without utilizing speech audio, we conduct further analysis using differential privacy techniques to provide additional privacy guarantees. Overall, our work demonstrates the viability of employing non-speech audio data for accurate occupancy estimation, while also ensuring the exclusion of speech-related content and providing robust privacy protections through differential privacy guarantees.

The proliferation of fake reviews on various online platforms has created a major concern for both consumers and businesses. Such reviews can deceive customers and cause damage to the reputation of products or services, making it crucial to identify them. Although the detection of fake reviews has been extensively studied in English language, detecting fake reviews in non-English languages such as Bengali is still a relatively unexplored research area. This paper introduces the Bengali Fake Review Detection (BFRD) dataset, the first publicly available dataset for identifying fake reviews in Bengali. The dataset consists of 7710 non-fake and 1339 fake food-related reviews collected from social media posts. To convert non-Bengali words in a review, a unique pipeline has been proposed that translates English words to their corresponding Bengali meaning and also back transliterates Romanized Bengali to Bengali. We have conducted rigorous experimentation using multiple deep learning and pre-trained transformer language models to develop a reliable detection system. Finally, we propose a weighted ensemble model that combines four pre-trained transformers: BanglaBERT, BanglaBERT Base, BanglaBERT Large, and BanglaBERT Generator . According to the experiment results, the proposed ensemble model obtained a weighted F1-score of 0.9843 on 13390 reviews, including 1339 actual fake reviews and 5356 augmented fake reviews generated with the nlpaug library. The remaining 6695 reviews were randomly selected from the 7710 non-fake instances. The model achieved a 0.9558 weighted F1-score when the fake reviews were augmented using the bnaug library.

The combination of diverse health data (IoT, EHR, and clinical surveys) and scalable-adaptable Artificial Intelligence (AI), has enabled the discovery of physical, behavioral, and psycho-social indicators of pain status. Despite the hype and promise to fundamentally alter the healthcare system with technological advancements, much AI adoption in clinical pain evaluation has been hampered by the heterogeneity of the problem itself and other challenges, such as personalization and fairness. Studies have revealed that many AI (i.e., machine learning or deep learning) models display biases and discriminate against specific population segments (such as those based on gender or ethnicity), which breeds skepticism among medical professionals about AI adaptability. In this paper, we propose a Multi-attribute Fairness Loss (MAFL) based CNN model that aims to account for any sensitive attributes included in the data and fairly predict patients' pain status while attempting to minimize the discrepancies between privileged and unprivileged groups. In order to determine whether the trade-off between accuracy and fairness can be satisfied, we compare the proposed model with well-known existing mitigation procedures, and studies reveal that the implemented model performs favorably in contrast to state-of-the-art methods. This paper presents a comprehensive investigation into developing a fault detection and classification system for real-world IIoT applications. The study addresses challenges in data collection, annotation, algorithm development, and deployment. Using a real-world IIoT system, three phases of data collection simulate 11 predefined fault categories. We propose SMTCNN for fault detection and category classification in IIoT, evaluating its performance on real-world data. Deep learning advancements have revolutionized scalable classification in many domains including computer vision. However, when it comes to wearable-based classification and domain adaptation, existing computer vision-based deep learning architectures and pretrained models trained on thousands of labeled images for months fall short. This is primarily because wearable sensor data necessitates sensor-specific preprocessing, architectural modification, and extensive data collection. To overcome these challenges, researchers have proposed encoding of wearable temporal sensor data in images using recurrent plots. In this paper, we present a novel modified-recurrent plot-based image representation that seamlessly integrates both temporal and frequency domain information. Our approach incorporates an efficient Fourier transform-based frequency domain angular difference estimation scheme in conjunction with the existing temporal recurrent plot image. Furthermore, we employ mixup image augmentation to enhance the representation. Lycopene, rich in red, yellow, or orange-colored fruits and vegetables, is the most potent antioxidant among the other carotenoids available in human blood plasma. It is evident that regular lycopene intake can prevent chronic diseases like cardiovascular diseases, type-2 diabetes, hypertension, kidney diseases and cancer. However, thermal processing, light, oxygen, and enzymes in gastrointestinal tract (GIT) compromise the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of lycopene ingested through diet. Nanoencapsulation provides a potential platform to prevent lycopene from light, air oxygen, thermal processing and enzymatic activity of the human digestive system. Physicochemical properties evidenced to be the potential indicator for determining the bioaccessibility of encapsulated bioactive compounds like lycopene. By manipulating the size or hydrodynamic diameter, zeta potential value or stability, polydispersity index or homogeneity and functional activity or retention of antioxidant properties observed to be the most prominent physicochemical properties to evaluate beneficial effect of implementation of nanotechnology on bioaccessibility study. Moreover, the molecular mechanism of the bioavailability of nanoparticles is not yet to be understood due to lack of comprehensive design to identify nanoparticles' behaviors if ingested through oral route as functional food ingredients. This review paper aims to study and leverage existing techniques about how nanotechnology can be used and verified to identify the bioaccessibility of lycopene before using it as a functional food ingredient for therapeutic treatments.
