Its alleviation and management will enhance patients’ experience. Community pharmacists can help manage pain severity through their valuable roles in medical teams and by managing the consequences of pain.Objective: This study aimed to evaluate community pharmacists’ knowledge and attitudes toward pain and pain management in Saudi Arabia.Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed to evaluate community pharmacists’ knowledge and attitudes toward pain and pain management in Saudi Arabia. Pharmacists aged ≥ 21 years, with a degree in pharmacy were included in this study. Each respondent participated in an online survey covering cancer-oriented pain and assessment of pain; pharmacology; abuse of substances; and physical dependence. An independent t-test and One-way ANOVA, with least significant difference as a post-hoc test, were employed, in addition to the General Linear Regression Model using Main Effect as the model.Results: This study revealed that the pain-related knowledge and attitude among community pharmacists in Saudi Arabia were inadequate. Age (p = 0.003), work experience (p = 0.036), nature of work (p = 0.001), and work location (p = 0.003) were determined as significant factors affecting their overall knowledge and attitude toward pain.Conclusion: Overall, attempts to expand community pharmacists’ knowledge and foster an appropriate attitude toward pain management among them in Saudi Arabia are highly recommended. Additional academic courses, studies, and tailored neuroscience courses will improve their awareness and knowledge of pain and pain management.Keywords: pharmacist, pain, knowledge, attitude, practice

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the world's most serious healthcare issues, causing morbidity, mortality, and high healthcare costs, making effective treatment strategies essential. This meta-analysis assessed the comparative effectiveness and safety of ceftaroline, linezolid, and vancomycin in treating MRSA infections. Searches were undertaken across major electronic databases, including PubMed, Cochrane CENTRAL, Embase, and Web of Science, from 2000 to 2024. A total of 24 studies (17 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and seven observational studies) involving 11,332 patients met the inclusion criteria. Patients on vancomycin treatment were more likely to have lower odds of being cured than controls (OR 0.68; 95% CI (0.58, 0.81), p < 0.0001), especially when compared to linezolid (OR 0.61; 95% CI (0.49, 0.74), p < 0.00001). Furthermore, mortality rates were significantly higher in vancomycin-treated patients than in controls (OR 1.25; 95% CI (1.00, 1.56), p = 0.05) and more precisely than in linezolid (OR 1.29; 95% CI (1.03, 1.62), p = 0.03). Microbiological eradication rates were not statistically different between vancomycin and the comparators (OR, 0.82; 95% CI (0.63, 1.07), p = 0.14). Safety analysis demonstrated comparable adverse event profiles between vancomycin and linezolid for thrombocytopenia, anemia, and hepatotoxicity. Although vancomycin remains a viable option owing to its accessibility and cost-effectiveness, our findings suggest that newer alternatives, particularly linezolid, may offer superior clinical outcomes in specific MRSA infections, especially in cases of pneumonia or high-risk patients. Background: Emotional intelligence (EI) is a predictive factor of academic success in undergraduate Doctor of Medicine (MD) programs. Although some research suggests a positive association between EI and academic success in MD programs, other research reports neither an association nor a negative correlation between the two variables. The current study aimed to resolve these contradictory findings by conducting a systematic review and a meta-analysis using research from 2005 to 2022., Methods: Data were analyzed using a multilevel modeling approach to (a) estimate the overall relationship between EI and academic success in MD programs and (b) determine whether the mean effect size varies according to country (United States vs. non-United States countries), age, EI test, EI task nature (ability-based vs. trait-based), EI subscales, and academic performance criteria (grade point average vs. examinations)., Results: Findings from 20 studies (m = 105; N = 4,227) indicated a positive correlation between EI and academic success (r = .13, 95% CI [.08, - .27], p < .01). Moderator analyses indicated that the mean effect size significantly varied according to EI tests and EI subscales. Moreover, three-level multiple regression analyses showed that between-study variance explained 29.5% of the variability in the mean effect size, whereas within-study variance explained 33.5% of the variability in the mean effect., Conclusions: Overall, the current findings show that EI is significantly, albeit weakly, related to academic success in MD programs. Medical researchers and practitioners can therefore focus on integrating EI-related skills into the MD curriculum or target them through professional development training and programs., (© 2023. Background and Objectives: There are some studies on the association between attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and the risk of eating disorders (ED). Only few have examined the risk of ED among children and adolescents with ADHD. Previous research which included subjects with ADHD with other comorbidities used inadequate controls and did not focus on the type of ADHD or the role of pharmacological treatment., Methods: This matched cohort study was conducted in the Child/Adolescents Psychiatry Unit (CAPU), Bahrain. Using the CAPU diagnostic frameworks, 70 subjects with ADHD were recruited and matched with their corresponding age- and sex- healthy controls at 1:2 ratio (70 cases:140 controls). The participants were children or adolescents aged between 8 and 19 years old. A brief interview was used to collect socio-demographic information and anthropometrics. The risk of ED was estimated using the eating attitude test -26 (EAT-2). Data were analyzed using cohort analysis., Results: A total of 31.43% of the subjects with ADHD were screened using EAT-26 and found to be 'at risk' for ED, compared to 12.14% of the controls (OR 3.31, 95% CI 1.62-6.78). The prevalence of ED among female cases with ADHD was slightly higher than males (33.33% and 30.77%, respectively). Body weight or body mass index was a statistically significant explanatory factor for the risk of ED., Conclusions: The present study shows that children and adolescents with ADHD have a three-fold increased risk of ED compared to healthy controls. Mental health is a key component of health, yet appropriate care is limited. Evidence concerning child and adolescent mental health has predominantly come from western countries, while the Middle East region, with a large youth population, has reported very little on it. This original, cross-sectional study of child and adolescent psychiatry in the Middle East provides an assessment of current postgraduate programs, services and what is needed to build workforce capacity. Academic psychiatrists from 16 Middle East countries were invited to form a Consortium to map current postgraduate training as one of the determinants of available child and adolescent psychiatry services, identify gaps in the distribution of child and adolescent psychiatrists, and propose potential steps to improve access to child and adolescent mental health care. The study collected data from 15 of the 16 countries invited (no data provided from Yemen). The study revealed underdeveloped child and adolescent psychiatry academic systems throughout the region. Despite recognition of the specialty in a majority of the countries (11/15), only six countries had established a designated child and adolescent psychiatry training program. The overall shortage of child and adolescent mental health specialists varied, yet all Consortium members reported a need for additional child and adolescent psychiatry specialists and allied professionals. Lack of child and adolescent psychiatry specialized programs in place throughout the region has evidently contributed to the shortage of qualified child and adolescent mental health workforce in the Middle East.

During the last decade many electronic databases of vegetation plots were established in many countries around the world. These databases contain valuable phytosociological information assisting both governmental and NGO (Non-governmental organizations) agencies to formulate strategies and on-ground plans to manage and protect nature resources. This paper provides an account on aims, current status and perspectives of building of a vegetation database for the Central Region (Najd) of Saudi Arabia - the founding element of the Saudi Vegetation Database (SVD). The data stored by the database are sample plots (vegetation relevés) collected according to the field techniques of the Braun-Blanquet approach (lists of taxa accompanied by semi-quantitative cover assessment), and are accompanied by general vegetation characteristics such as vegetation layering and cover, information on life-form of the recorded species, geographical coordinates, altitude, soil typology, topography and many more. More than 2900 vegetation-plot records (relevés) have so far been collected in the Najd region; of these more than 2000 have already been stored using the Turboveg database platform. These field records cover many habitats such as depressions, wadis (dry river beds), agricultural lands, sand dunes, sabkhas, and ruderal habitats. The ecological information collected in the database is currently the largest set of vegetation data collated into a database in the Middle East. These data are of great importance for biodiversity studies in Saudi Arabia, since the region is recording a loss of biodiversity at a fast rate due to environmental problems such as global warming and land-use changes. We envisage that this database would catalyze further data collection on vegetation of the entire Arabian Peninsula, and shall serve as one of the most important datasets for classification and mapping of the vegetation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
