The use of copper (Cu)-based fungicides to control diseases in vineyards can cause excessive Cu accumulation in soils. Greater Cu availability is expected in acid sandy soils with low organic matter (OM), where the risk of toxicity to plants and environment contamination is high. This study aimed to study the evolution of Cu in acid, sandy soils planted with grapevines for a period of time between 2 and 32 years. Two studies were carried out in South Brazil: in the first study, soil samples, from 19 vineyards were collected and analyzed in the first 0.2 m depth-layer for the total and available Cu. In the second study, 3 soils were selected among the previous 19 according to the age of vineyard (5, 11, and 30 year-old), and their 0.60 m-depth profile was analyzed for 5 fractions of Cu (soluble, exchangeable, mineral, organic, and residual). All the soils were classified as Ultisols. The vineyards with more than 25 years under cultivation had a mean total Cu concentration of 90 mg kg−1 in the 0–0.10 m layer. Approximately 80% of it was potentially available to plants. The greatest total and available Cu were found in the soil surface layers (0.2 m depth), where up to 75% of the total Cu is adsorbed in clay minerals and only 20% is complexed in the OM.

The continuous use of copper (Cu)-based fungicides in viticulture to counteract fungal diseases has resulted in an accumulation of Cu in the topsoil, sometimes reaching toxic levels that can cause plant stress and reduce soil fertility. A possible strategy to mitigate the negative effects of Cu could include its incorporation into chemical compounds with phosphorous (P). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of soil P addition on alleviating the toxic effect of Cu when applied in excess to potted grapevines plants. Micro-propagated plants of 1103 Paulsen rootstock were grown according to a factorial experimental design with two factors: Cu (4 levels: 0, 100, 200 and 300 mg kg-1 dw) and P (2 levels: 0 and 100 mg kg-1 dw) and three replicates. Sixty days after transplant, P was not effective in preventing the accumulation of Cu in vines. The total plant biomass was not influenced by soil Cu addition, while P increased plant growth by enhancing plant nutritional status. In addition, Cu reduced nutrient (P, K and Zn) content in plants. Net photosynthesis and efficiency of photosystem II decreased as a consequence of the increase of Cu concentration in soil. The effect of P in mitigating Cu toxicity was mainly related to the ability of plants to restore nutrient uptake.

The continuous use of copper-based fungicides in viticulture to contrast fungal diseases may result into an accumulation of Cu in the topsoil, reaching toxicity levels for plants and soil biota. A possible strategy to mitigate the negative effects of excess of Cu could involve the formation of insoluble molecules by the application of P to the soil. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness P soil application as a strategy to alleviate the toxic effect of excess of Cu on potted grapevines plants, with particular emphasis on the physiological response of plants. Micropropagated plants of 1103 Paulsen rootstock were grown according to a factorial experimental design with two factors: Cu (4 levels: 0, 100, 200, 300 mg kg−1 dw) and P (2 levels: 0 and 100 mg kg−1 dw) and three replicates. Net photosynthesis, efficiency of PSII photochemistry and linear electron transport rate decreased as soil Cu concentration increased. The addition of P increased net photosynthesis, improved the efficiency of PSII photochemistry and linear electron transport rate, but decreased stomatal conductance. As a consequence, shoot and root biomass declined with the increase of Cu concentration in soil, while the increment of P tackled this decline and improved nutritional status. CuEDTA extractable fraction in soil was increased by both the supply of Cu and P; this because the addition of P in combination with the highest Cu soil concentration determined a decrease of soil pH. In conclusion, the addition of P to the soil mitigated Cu excess toxicity symptoms in grape through a preservation of photosynthetic apparatus efficiency and an improvement of nutrient uptake.

Urea and organic compost are applied as a nitrogen (N) source in vineyards. The aim of this study was to evaluate the yield, total N content in the leaves and the must composition in grapevines with the application of organic compost and urea. ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ grapevines, in the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 crop seasons were subjected to the application of 40 kg N ha-1 in the form of organic compost and urea; but there were also unfertilized grapevines. In both crop seasons, leaves were collected at the stages of full flowering and at the change in color of the berries, and the total N content were analyzed; grape yield was evaluated and enological attributes were determined in the must. The application of organic compost and urea did not affect the N content in the leaf nor the grape yield in the second crop season evaluated. However, in the first crop season, grape yield was greater in the grapevines with application of organic compost to the soil. The addition of N sources did not affect the total nutrient content in the must but, in the second crop season, the grape must from the grapevines with the addition of organic compost had a lower soluble solids concentration and a higher total acidity value, as well as tartaric and malic acid values.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of P soil addition to mitigate the toxic effect of excess of Cu on grapevine on sandy non-calcareous soil. Micro-propagated plants of 1103 Paulsen rootstock were grown according to a factorial experimental design with two factors: Cu addition (0, 100, 200 and 300 mg kg −1 dw) and P addition (0, 50 and 100 mg kg −1 soil dw). The experiment was conducted in the greenhouse and plants were grown on a sandy soil in rhizoboxes. At the end of the trial, plants were destructively harvested, the biomass and the nutrient concentration of organs were determined. Root growth was evaluated during the trial and the concentration of organic acid in root tissue and exudates was determined. Shoot length and plant biomass declined as Cu concentration in soil increased; the application of P enhanced plant growth and nutritional status. Root biomass decreased at Cu > 100 mg kg −1 and increased in P at 100 mg kg −1 . Phosphorous stimulated root length, diameter and the number of apexes. Root citric acid increased as a response of Cu at 300 mg kg −1 , root ascorbic acid decreased with the increase of Cu (200 and 300 mg kg −1 ) and P at 100 mg kg −1 . The concentration of citric acid from root exudations was higher in Cu at 300 mg kg −1 and Cu at 200 mg kg −1 (compared to control) and P at 100 mg kg −1 soils. The application of P fertilization seems to be a valuable strategy to overcome the toxicity of high concentration of Cu in soil.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate Cu and Zn migration and fractions in sandy soil of vineyards. In Urussanga (SC), Brazil, soil samples were collected from a 4-year-old and 15-yearold vineyard, and from a forested area. In the soils, the chemical characteristics of Cu and Zn were analyzed by the EDTA method, which determines the fraction available in soil; 3050B method of the USEPA for total concentrations, which represents the pseudosoil contents in the soil; and chemical fractionation, which estimates soluble fraction, exchangeable fraction, fraction associated with clay minerals, fraction associated with organic matter and residual fraction. The results show that there is accumulation of Cu and Zn in sandy soils cultivated with grapevines and with frequent fungicide applications. These higher levels were found in soils with longer cultivation time (15 years old), but were restricted to the superficial layers of the soil. Most of the Cu was extracted by EDTA method, and it may be considered as available to plants. The EDTA also extracted a small part of Zn. Most of the Cu in the vineyard soils can be characterized by low geochemical mobility, but in the uppermost soil layers of the oldest vineyard, there was an increase in Cu content associated with soil organic matter. Most of the Zn in the vineyard soil was associated with minerals, which indicates low mobility and also low potential for toxicity to plants and microorganisms. This study aimed to assess the effect of liming as an ameliorator of copper (Cu) toxicity in black oats (Avena strigosa Schreb.) grown in soil with a sandy texture. The treatments were soil supplementation with increasing doses of lime (0.0, 0.5 and 1.0 g kg−1) and two of Cu (0 and 50 mg kg−1). Pre-germinated black oat seeds were sown for 30 days in the soil, subsequently, the plant height, root and shoot dry mass and concentration of total chlorophyll, chlorophylls a and b, carotenoids and total soluble carbohydrates and starch were analyzed. The dose of 50 mg kg−1 soil Cu caused a toxic effect on black oat plant growth and development, affected the internal distribution of nutrients, decreased the leaf chlorophyll concentration and increased the leaf concentration of total soluble carbohydrates and starch. Increasing lime doses ameliorated the toxic effects of Cu.

Nitrogen from cover crop residues decomposing on the soil surface may contribute to ‘Niagara Rosada’ grape nutrition. This study estimated the recovery of N from the decomposition of rye (Secale cereale) residues deposited on the soil surface in vineyards. Rye litter labeled with 15N was applied in July 2008 on the soil surface of a ‘Niagara Rosada’ grape (Vitis labrusca) vineyard in Bento Gonçalves in the southern region of Brazil. In January 2009 and 2010, ‘Niagara Rosada’ grape plant organs were sampled, and in January 2010, soil samples were collected in different depths. Total N and 15N were analyzed in the plant tissue and soil samples. The N derived from the rye litter added to the soil surface was mostly accumulated in the annual and perennial organs of the ‘Niagara Rosada’ grape at a similar percentage. Most of the N contained in ‘Niagara Rosada’ grape organs was derived from different N sources rather than rye litter. Soils used for the cultivation of grapes generally have a long history of copper (Cu) based fungicide applications. As a result, these soils can accumulate Cu at levels that are capable of causing toxicity in plants that co-inhabit the vineyards. The aim of the present study was to evaluate growth parameters and oxidative stress in black oat plants grown in vineyard soils contaminated with high levels of Cu. Soil samples were collected from the Serra Gaúcha and Campanha Gaúcha regions, which are the main wine producing regions in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil. Experiments were conducted in a greenhouse in 2009, with soils containing Cu concentrations from 2.2 to 328.7 mg kg(-1). Evaluated parameters included plant root and shoot dry matter, Cu concentration in the plant's tissues, and enzymatic and non-enzymatic biochemical parameters related to oxidative stress in the shoots of plants harvested 15 and 40 days after emergence. The Cu absorbed by plants predominantly accumulated in the roots, with little to no translocation to the shoots. Even so, oat plants showed symptoms of toxicity when grown in soils containing high Cu concentrations. The enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant systems of oat plants were unable to reverse the imposed oxidative stress conditions.

Excess of copper in soil can be toxic for plants; however, soil P availability seems to insolubilize Cu, improve plant nutrition and mitigate the negative effects of Cu toxicity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of increasing rate of P supply on Cu toxicity in grapevines plants grown on a sandy soil in rhizobox containers. Micro-propagated plants of 1103 Paulsen rootstock were grown according to a factorial experimental design with two factors: copper addition (4 levels: 0, 100, 200, 300 mg kg-1 dw) and phosphorus addition (3 levels: 0, 50 100 mg kg-1 dw) and four replicates. At the end of the trial (100 days after transplanting), plants were destructively harvested and the biomass was evaluated. Cu and P concentration analyses were performed on leaves. At P0, the Cu concentration in leaves decreased as the rate of Cu in soil increased. At P50 it was unaffected by Cu application rate. At P100 leaves Cu concentration increased with the rate of Cu. At Cu0 and at the highest P concentration, Cu in leaves increased at 300 mg Cu kg-1 soil, if compared to the lowest soil Cu addition. A similar trend was observed for P leaf concentration. The biomass of plants declined as a consequence of the increase of Cu concentration in soil, while the increase of soil P availability enhanced plant growth. In conclusion, the increase of P availability mitigates Cu excess symptoms in plants, since it improves plants biomass and leaf nutrient concentration, however, P effect is less pronounced in severe Cu toxicity.

Grapevines grown on acid soils with low fertility in southern Brazil are treated with intense foliar applications of copper (Cu) fungicides, resulting in an increased level of Cu in the soil and increased toxicity. The present study evaluated the accumulation and bioavailability of Cu, and soils with varying levels of Cu from the main producing regions of southern Brazil were collected. The forms of Cu present in the soil were assessed using chemical extractants; additionally, oat cultivation was performed, reflecting the use of the plant as an indicator of Cu bioavailability. Cu accumulated in the topsoil, mainly in bioavailable forms, and there was also an increase of Cu up to a depth of 0.4 m. Cu was primarily found in the mineral fraction, with apparent saturation of the soil organic matter functional groups. Inceptisol and Alfisol soils with a long history of cupric fungicide application were found to have levels of Cu toxic to oat plants. Furthermore, accumulated copper in Alfisol soil from the Campanha Gaúcha region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul had higher bioavailability compared to Cu accumulated in Inceptisol soil from the Serra Gaúcha region. In addition, the copper concentration in roots was found to serve as an indicator of Cu bioavailability in soil, but not of copper phytotoxicity in plants.

Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a migração e a modificação de frações de Cu e Zn em solos de vinhedos. Em outubro de 2010 foram selecionados, em Água Doce (SC) três vinhedos com idades crescentes e uma área de campo natural com o objetivo de determinar o teor natural dos elementos no solo. Amostras de solo dos vinhedos e campo natural foram coletadas em camadas estratificadas e analisadas. Nas amostras foram realizados o fracionamento químico e a extração de Cu e Zn por EDTA e pelo método 3050B da USEPA. O Cu e o Zn foram acumulados nas camadas mais superficiais dos solos dos vinhedos e maiores concentrações foram observadas no vinhedo com maior idade. A maior parte do Cu e do Zn nos solos dos vinhedos foi distribuída na fração residual que possui baixa mobilidade geoquímica porém nas camadas mais superficiais do solo do vinhedo com maior idade constatou-se aumento do teor de Cu ligado à matéria orgânica do solo e nas camadas mais profundas, ligado aos minerais. A maior parte do Zn no solo dos vinhedos foi distribuída na fração residual e ligada aos minerais; a fração residual possui baixa mobilidade no solo mas pode ser disponível para as plantas e causar toxidez.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mobility of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) in the profile and distribution of sandy soil fractions from vineyards. Soil samples were collected from two vineyards of different ages (14 and 30 years) and a natural field area in the south of Brazil. The chemical characteristics, Cu levels and Zn levels, were analyzed in the soils by extraction with ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) using the 3050B method of USEPA and by chemical fractionation. Cu and Zn were accumulated in the vineyard soils, especially in the uppermost soil layers and in the soil from the oldest vineyard. Approximately, 75% of the total Cu was extracted by EDTA, but only 30% of the total Zn was extracted by EDTA. Most of the Cu, especially in the oldest vineyard, was distributed in the mineral-associated fraction, which is characterized by low geochemical mobility, but another important part of the Cu was distributed in the soil organic matter. The ecotoxicological effects of copper (Cu) are of global concern due to the intensive and long-term application of Cu-based fungicides, which may cause Cu to accumulate in the soil. Relative to the effects of other metals, comparatively little is known about the accumulation and translocation of Cu and its effects on other mineral nutrients in plants. This study determined the mineral nutrient distributions under Cu toxicity in potato genotypes differing in their efficiency of use and response to phosphorus (P). Plants were grown in vineyard soils with varied Cu soil levels (2, 5, 36, 67, 96, 270, and 321 mg/kg) during the fall and spring growing seasons. The increase of Cu concentrations in plant tissues was dependent on the external Cu concentrations, and the highest concentrations were observed in root and stolon tissues. The majority of the Cu taken up by the plants accumulated in the tubers. During the fall growing season, plants classified as NER (P-nonefficient and P-responsive) showed the highest sensitivity to excess Cu in terms of growth and nutrition. The plants showing responses to Cu toxicity included plants without expanded leaves and plants without tuber production, whereas genotypes classified as ENR (P-efficient and P-nonresponsive) were able to expand their leaves and produce tubers in all tested soils. Tissue P and Cu concentrations showed a strong correlation with high Cu concentrations in Cambisols, whereas Fe and K tissue concentrations were more strongly correlated with Cu levels in Ultisols. Our data suggest that the middle and apex leaves should be used to assess Cu toxicity in potato plants. This study also provides evidence of noncompetitive uptake of Cu and Fe by potato plants.

Little is known about the impact of N fertilization on fruit production and composition in orange groves grown in soils with low or medium organic matter content in Rio Grande do Sul (RS). This study aimed to evaluate how N fertilization of orange trees cv. 'Lane Late' in a sandy soil may interfere in fruit yield and composition of fruit and juice. The experiment was conducted with orange trees cv. 'Lane Late' growing in Sandy Typic Hapludalf soil, in Rosário do Sul (RS). The plants received applications of 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140 and 160kg N ha-1. Total N in leaves, number of fruits per plant, yield, fresh weight, fruit diameter, peel thickness, percentage of fruit juice, peel color, juice color, ascorbic acid content, total soluble solids (TSS) and total titratable acidity were evaluated in 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 crops. In the first crop, especially yield, number of fruits per plant, TSS content in fruit juice and ratio decreased with increasing N rate applied. However, in the second crop, the total titratable acidity of the fruit juice prominently increased with the dose of N applied. In both crops, results were highly influenced by rainfall distribution, which affect the plant physiology, soil N dynamics and, consequently, probability of response to N applied and the loss of mineral N in the soil.

Repeated pig slurry applications cause accumulation and leaching of soil nutrients and, subsequently, groundwater contamination. The purpose of this study was to evaluate ammonium (NH4+–N), nitrate (NO3−–N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) leaching in a sandy soil with a 5-year history of repeated pig slurry applications. The study was carried out in the experimental field of the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM) (Federal University of Santa Maria), Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, in the South of Brazil, from 2002 to 2007, in no-tillage system in a Typic Hapludalf soil. Slurry was applied at doses of 0, 20, 40 and 80 m3 ha−1, which over the 5 years amounted to the addition of 594, 1,188 and 2,376 kg N ha−1; 508, 1,016 and 2,032 kg P ha−1 and 216, 432 and 864 kg K ha−1, respectively. Leachate solutions were collected throughout the period, prepared and then subjected to analysis of NH4+–N, NO3−–N, P and K available in the solution. Repeated applications of pig slurry in a no-tillage system in sandy soil led to the transfer of elements through the leachate solution according to the sequence: nitrate > potassium > ammonium > phosphorus. The transfers of these elements were positively related to the increased volume of leachate solution over the years in addition to the nutrient amounts added by the pig slurry applied over the 60-month period.

Successive applications of copper-based (Cu) fungicides have increased Cu concentration in vineyard soils, inducing Cu toxicity in young vines and cover crops such as black oat, thus inhibiting growth and development. However, increasing soil phosphorus (P) content can reduce Cu toxicity symptoms. In this context, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Cu toxicity and its alleviation by P fertilization in black oat cultivated in sandy soil. For the experiment, Typic Hapludalf soil samples were air-dried, prepared, and subjected to increasing doses of Cu (0, 30, and 60 mg kg−1) and P (0 and 100 mg kg−1). Subsequently, the soil was incubated and stored in pots, where black oat seedlings were grown for 30 days in a greenhouse. Plant roots subjected to Cu, especially with the highest Cu concentration and without P addition decreased the root cap size, showing early tissue differentiation and lateral root formation near the apical region. Decrease in dry matter (DM) production of roots (50 %) and shoots (67 %) was also observed in the highest Cu concentration. Plants without P addition, regardless of Cu concentration, also had lower root (33 %) and shoot (65 %) DM production. P addition in soil and its increased concentration reduced root anatomical changes and stimulated plant DM production. Therefore, we conclude that excessive Cu concentration alters black oat root anatomical structure, affecting plant growth, especially in sandy soils with low organic matter content. However, P supply can reduce root Cu toxicity symptoms, thus increasing plant dry matter production.

The purpose of this study was to quantify the phosphorus (P) fractions in phosphate-fertilized sandy soils under grapevines. Soil was sampled from a grassland site and two vineyards (13 and 31 years old) in the State Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, from the layers 0-5, 5-10, 10-15, 15-20, and 20-40 cm deep. The samples were prepared and P fractions were assessed by chemical fractionation. Phosphate fertilization of the vineyard soils increased P contents to a depth of 40 cm, especially in the more recalcitrant fractions but detectable in the more labile fractions as well, which are plant available and may increase the risk of environmental contamination. Phosphate fertilizers and the period of grapevine cultivation had little effect on the levels of organic P forms, whereas cover crops in vineyards could be an appropriate strategy to increase or maintain the levels of soil organic matter and the levels of organic P over the years. The SPAD reading may be used in estimating total nitrogen content (N) in leaves and even in estimating grape yield in grapevines. The objective of this study was to estimate total N content in leaves and grape yield using the SPAD-502 in grapevines submitted to nitrogen fertilization in soils with clayey and sandy texture. In 2008, two experiments were installed in the Southern region of Brazil. In experiment 1, Cabernet Sauvignon grapevines were planted in a soil with clayey texture and with application of 10, 20, 40 and 80 kg·N·ha-1·year-1. In experiment 2, Cabernet Sauvignon grapevines were planted in a soil with sandy texture and with the application of 0, 10, 15, 20, 40, 80 and 120 kg·N·ha-1·year-1. In the grapevines of the two experiments and during the period from 2008 to 2010, SPAD readings were made on leaves throughout the flowering period and at change in color of the berries using the portable chlorophyll meter Minolta-SPAD-502. The leaves were collected, dried, ground and submitted to analysis of the total N content. In addition, grape yield per hectare was evaluated. The SPAD-502 readings estimated the total N content in flowering and at change in color of the berries in the Cabernet Sauvignon grapevines grown on soils with clayey texture and sandy texture, especially in the first year of evaluation. However, the precision of the SPAD-502 readings is low, with there being no relationship between the SPAD-502 readings and grape yield.

A significant quantity of nutrients in vineyards may return to the soil each year through decomposition of residues from cover plants. This study aimed to evaluate biomass decomposition and nutrient release from residues of black oats and hairy vetch deposited in the vines rows, with and without plastic shelter, and in the between-row areas throughout the vegetative and productive cycle of the plants. The study was conducted in a commercial vineyard in Bento Gonçalves, RS, Brazil, from October 2008 to February 2009. Black oat (Avena strigosa) and hairy vetch (Vicia villosa) residues were collected, subjected to chemical (C, N, P, K, Ca, and Mg) and biochemical (cellulose - Cel, hemicellulose - Hem, and lignin - Lig content) analyses, and placed in litter bags, which were deposited in vines rows without plastic shelter (VPRWS), in vines rows with plastic shelter (VPRS), and in the between-row areas (BR). We collected the residues at 0, 33, 58, 76, and 110 days after deposition of the litter bags, prepared the material, and subjected it to analysis of total N, P, K, Ca, and Mg content. The VPRS contained the largest quantities and percentages of dry matter and residual nutrients (except for Ca) in black oat residues from October to February, which coincides with the period from flowering up to grape harvest. This practice led to greater protection of the soil surface, avoiding surface runoff of the solution derived from between the rows, but it retarded nutrient cycling. The rate of biomass decomposition and nutrient release from hairy vetch residues from October to February was not affected by the position of deposition of the residues in the vineyard, which may especially be attributed to the lower values of the C/N and Lig/N ratios. Regardless of the type of residue, black oat or hairy vetch, the greatest decomposition and nutrient release mainly occurred up to 33 days after deposition of the residues on the soil surface, which coincided with the flowering of the grapevines, which is one of the phenological stages of greatest demand for nutrients. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a decomposição e liberação de nutrientes de resíduos de aveia-preta e ervilhaca depositados nas linhas de plantio de videiras sem e com cobertura plástica e nas entrelinhas. Este estudo foi conduzido em um vinhedo comercial em Bento Gonçalves, RS, no período de outubro de 2008 a fevereiro de 2009. Resíduos de aveia-preta (Avena strigosa) e ervilhaca (Vicia villosa) foram coletados, submetidos a análises químicas (C, N, P, K, Ca e Mg) e bioquímicas (cellulose - Cel, hemicellulose - Hem e lignina - Lig) e acondicionados em bolsas de decomposição, que foram depositadas em linhas de plantio sem cobertura plástica (LPSCP), linhas de plantio com cobertura plástica (LPCCP) e entrelinha (EL). Em 0, 33, 58, 76 e 110 dias depois da deposição das bolsas de decomposição, os resíduos foram coletados, preparados e submetidos à análise dos teores totais de N, P, K, Ca e Mg. As maiores quantidades e porcentagens de matéria seca e nutrientes remanescentes, com exceção do Ca, em resíduos de aveia-preta, no período de outubro até fevereiro, que coincide do florescimento até a colheita da uva, foram observadas na LPCCP, o que promoveu maior proteção da superfície do solo, evitando o escoamento superficial de solução derivada das entrelinhas; entretanto, retardou a ciclagem de nutrientes. A taxa de decomposição e liberação de nutrientes de resíduos de ervilhaca, de outubro até fevereiro, não foi influenciada pela posição de deposição dos resíduos no vinhedo, o que pode ser atribuído, especialmente, aos menores valores de relação C/N e Lig/N. Independentemente do tipo de resíduo, aveia-preta ou ervilhaca, a maior taxa de decomposição e liberação de nutrientes aconteceu, especialmente, até os 33 dias após a deposição dos resíduos na superfície do solo, o que coincidiu com o florescimento das videiras, que é um dos estágios fenológicos de maior demanda de nutrientes.

Successive applications of pig slurry and pig deep litter may lead to an accumulation of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) fractions in the soil profile. The objective of this study was to evaluate the Cu and Zn forms and accumulation in a Sandy Typic Hapludalf soil after long-term application of pig slurry and deep litter. In March 2010, eight years after initiating an experiment in Braço do Norte, Santa Catarina (SC), Brazil, on a Sandy Typic Hapludalf soil, soil samples were collected from the 0-2.5, 2.5-5.0, 5-10 and 10-15 cm layers in treatments consisting of no manure application (control) and with applications of pig slurry and deep litter at two levels: the single and double rate of N requirement for maize and black oat succession. The soil was dried, ground in an agate mortar and analyzed for Cu and Zn contents by 0.01 mol L-1 EDTA and chemically fractionated to determine Cu and Zn. The applications of Pig deep litter and slurry at doses equivalent to 90 kg ha-1 N increased the contents of available Cu and Zn in the surface soil layer, if the double of this dose was applied in pig deep litter or double this dose in pig slurry, Cu and Zn migrated to a depth of 15 cm. Copper is accumulated mainly in the organic and residual fractions, and zinc preferentially in the fraction linked to clay minerals, especially in the surface soil layers. As aplicações sucessivas de dejetos líquidos e cama sobreposta de suínos podem provocar o acúmulo de frações de cobre (Cu) e zinco (Zn) no perfil do solo. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar as formas e o acúmulo de Cu e Zn em um Argissolo Vermelho com histórico de aplicação de dejetos líquidos e cama sobreposta de suínos. Em março de 2010, após oito anos da instalação de um experimento localizado no município de Braço do Norte, Santa Catarina, SC, sobre um Argissolo Vermelho, foram coletadas amostras de solo nas camadas de 0-2,5; 2,5-5,0; 5-10; e 10-15 cm, em tratamentos sem a aplicação de dejetos e com a aplicação de dejetos líquidos de suínos e de cama sobreposta de suínos em duas doses para suprir uma e duas vezes a necessidade de N para a sucessão milho e aveia preta. O solo foi seco, moído em gral de pedra ágata e submetido à análise dos teores de Cu e Zn por EDTA 0,01 mol L-1 e ao fracionamento químico de Cu e Zn. A aplicação de cama sobreposta de suínos e dejetos líquidos de suínos aumentou os teores de Cu e Zn disponíveis na camada superficial do solo; entretanto, quando se aplicaram a dose (equivalente a 90 kg ha-1 de N) e o dobro da dose de cama sobreposta de suínos e o dobro da dose de dejetos líquidos de suínos o Cu e o Zn migraram até 15 cm de profundidade. O Cu no solo é acumulado especialmente na fração orgânica e residual e o Zn, preferencialmente na fração ligada aos argilominerais, especialmente nas camadas mais superficiais.

O Objetivo do Trabalho foi avaliar a Producao ea Composicao de frutos de laranjeiras cv. Pista submetidas tardias a adubacao potassica de Manutencao. O experimento foi conduzido em hum pomar da cv. Lane Late, em Rosario do Sul (RS). Nas safras 2008/2009 Ate 2011/2012 como laranjeiras were submetidas a adicao de 0, 50 e 100% da dose de de K2O recomendada. Nas safras 2008/2009, 2010/2011 e 2011/2012 foi avaliada a Producao de frutos, o Diâmetro de fruto, espessura da casca, o volume de suco, Os teores de K no suco, NAS Folhas e nao individual. Nas safras de 2010/2011 e 2011/2012 foi assessed o Teor de vitamina C no suco, Solidos soluveis Totais (SST), acidez titulavel total (ATT), relacao o calculado e determinada a cor do suco e da epiderme dos frutos. Uma dose do fertilizante potassico, em Tres safras, Nao afeta a Producao de frutos. A adicao de 100% da dose de aumenta o Teor de K trocavel no solo, o Teor NAS Folhas e nao suco, Que apresenta cor Mais amarelada.

A Itália é um dos principais países produtores de maçãs na Europa, destinada principalmente ao consumo in natura no mercado nacional e internacional. A produção e a qualidade dos frutos é dependente da cultivar, do porta-enxerto e das práticas de manejo, como a adubação e a irrigação adotado no pomar. Esta revisão tem por objetivo reportar as principais cultivares e porta-enxertos de macieira e o manejo da adubação e irrigação e suas atualizações em pomares de macieira da Itália. Os programas de melhoramento genético nesse país envolveram a seleção de cultivares e porta-enxertos de macieira que permitem a obtenção de altas produtividades e frutos de qualidade exigida pelo mercado consumidor. No manejo da adubação e irrigação, os nutrientes e a água têm sido fornecidos em quantidades próximas a real necessidade das plantas, proporcionando nutrição adequada, produção satisfatória e frutos de boa qualidade, além de evitar, sempre que possível, as perdas de nutrientes e água no ambiente.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi quantificar as frações de acumulação de fósforo em solo submetido a sucessivas aplicações de dejetos líquidos de suínos (DLS) em sistema de plantio direto. Em Santa Maria, RS, doses de 0, 20, 40 e 80 m³ ha-1 de DLS foram distribuídas a lanço por sete anos agrícolas, antes do plantio de cada cultivo de inverno ou verão, em Argissolo Vermelho arenoso, totalizando 0, 584, 1.168 e 2.336 kg ha-1 de P aplicado via dejetos. O solo foi coletado nas camadas 0-2, 4-6, 8-10, 14-16 e 20-25 cm, e submetido ao fracionamento químico de P. A adição do DLS ao solo durante sete anos aumentou o teor de P até 25 cm de profundidade, principalmente nas frações inorgânicas extraídas por resina trocadora de ânions, NaHCO3 0,5 mol L-1 e NaOH 0,1 mol L-1. As aplicações não aumentaram os teores de P orgânico extraído por NaHCO3 0,5 mol L-1, mas sim as frações orgânicas extraídas por NaOH 0,5 e 0,1 mol L-1. O DLS adicionado ao solo por longo período pouco afeta a partição de P em frações inorgânicas e orgânicas. As sucessivas aplicações de DLS aumentam o acúmulo de P em frações predominantemente lábeis no solo, o que representa um risco potencial para contaminação de águas superficiais e subsuperficiais. The objective of this work was to quantify the accumulation of phosphorus fractions in the soil subjected to successive pig slurry applications in a no-tillage system. At Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, 0, 20, 40 and 80 m³ ha-1 doses of pig slurry were broadcasted for seven years on Argissolo Vermelho arenoso (Arenic Hapludult) before sowing each winter or summer crop, totalizing 0, 584, 1,168 and 2,336 kg ha-1 of P from pig slurry. Soil samples were collected in 0-2, 4-6, 8-10, 14-16 and 20-25 cm layers and submitted to P fractionation. Applications of pig slurry during seven years increased P contents to a depth of 25 cm, especially in the inorganic fractions extractable by anion exchange resin, NaHCO3 0.5 mol L-1 and NaOH 0.1 mol L-1. Pig slurry doses did not increase P content in organic fractions extracted by NaHCO3 0.5 mol L-1, but increased the content of organic fractions extracted by NaOH 0.5 e 0.1 mol L-1. Pig slurry applied to soil for large period has little effect on the P partition in inorganic and organic fractions. Successive pig slurry applications increase P contents in the soil predominantly in labile fractions, which can represent a potential risk for waterbeds contamination.

Aims This study investigated Cu uptake and accumulation as well as physiological and biochemical changes in grapevines grown in soils containing excess Cu.

Urea and organic compost are applied as a nitrogen (N) source in vineyards. The aim of this study was to evaluate the yield, total N content in the leaves and the must composition in grapevines with the application of organic compost and urea. ?Cabernet Sauvignon? grapevines, in the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 crop seasons were subjected to the application of 40 kg N ha-1 in the form of organic compost and urea; but there were also unfertilized grapevines. In both crop seasons, leaves were collected at the stages of full flowering and at the change in color of the berries, and the total N content were analyzed; grape yield was evaluated and enological attributes were determined in the must. The application of organic compost and urea did not affect the N content in the leaf nor the grape yield in the second crop season evaluated. However, in the first crop season, grape yield was greater in the grapevines with application of organic compost to the soil. The addition of N sources did not affect the total nutrient content in the must but, in the second crop season, the grape must from the grapevines with the addition of organic compost had a lower soluble solids concentration and a higher total acidity value, as well as tartaric and malic acid values.
