Outsourcing has recently developed as an overall business strategy in the search for global competitiveness. As a part of this process, IT outsourcing is widely spread in the Central and Eastern European countries. The objective of the paper is to identify the key factors affecting the success of IT outsourcing partnerships on the basis of an empirical study conducted in Bulgaria. The paper presents selected results from a survey of outsourcing relations considering the development of successful strategic partnerships in IT outsourcing practices. According to its results, the most influential factors of these partnerships' success are the level of achievement of partnership goals, top management commitment, and the level of effective communication. In addition to this, a trustful sharing of information and knowledge between partners can build a competitive synergy for achieving goals which otherwise cannot be accomplished separately by the organizations themselves. The key factors contribute to the strengthening of IT outsourcing partnerships and to the improvement of the organizational performance of both partners. U posljednje se vrijeme outsourcing razvio kao poslovna strategija kojom se tezi postizanju konkurentnosti. Kao dio ovog procesa, outsourcing informacijske tehnologije se uvelike prosirio zemljama sredisnje i istocne Europe. Cilj ovog rada je identificiranje kljucnih cimbenika uspjeha koji utjecu na partnerstva u outsourcingu informacijske tehnologije, i to na temelju empirijskog istrazivanja, provedenog u Bugarskoj. U radu se prezentiraju izabrani rezultati, koji proizlaze iz anketnog istrazivanja uspjesnih strateskih partnerstva u outsourcingu informacijske tehnologije. Prema dobivenim rezultatima, najutjecajniji cimbenici za uspjeh navedenih partnerstava su: stupanj postizanja ciljeva partnerstva, posvecenost top menadzmenta i razina ucinkovitosti komunikacije. Osim toga, podjela informacija s povjerenjem i poznavanje partnera mogu kreirati singergiju, na temelju koje se dostizu ciljevi, koje pojedini partneri inace ne bi mogli dostici. The paper considers an up-to-date issue in project management, namely the implementation of the project portfolio management approach in contemporary organizations and its relation to the corporate strategy. It emphasizes on the premise that only if project portfolio management is effectively aligned with the corporate strategy a synergetic effect can be achieved facilitating the portfolio success. The theoretical grounds outlined here are supported by evidence from the practice on the basis of a case study reviewing the system of project portfolio management in Telenor Group Bulgaria at three levels - unit within the organization, organization within the group, and the group of organizations as a whole. A conclusion is derived regarding the establishment and management of project portfolio as inherent function necessary for the effective control over projects execution providing their successful realization in a multi-unit environment of a business group. The paper analyses some dimensions of Bulgarian national cultural environment as well as their impact on management behaviour. Formulations from significant studies (e.g. of H. Hofstede, M. Bond, A. Laurent and other authors, as well as some Bulgarian authors) are reviewed in this field. Data from an empirical survey are used for testing hypotheses about the impact of three main cultural dimensions (individualism, masculinity and avoidance of uncertainty) upon the formation and development of managerial behaviour in Bulgarian enterprises. Surveying 6509 managers from 24 countries/geopolitical entities, we tested the process through which individualism--collectivism at the country level relates to employees' appraisals of and reactions to three types of work demands (i.e., work hours, workload, and organizational constraints). Our multilevel modeling results suggested that, while working the same number of hours, employees from individualistic countries reported a higher perceived workload than their counterparts in collectivistic countries. Furthermore, relationships of perceived workload and organizational constraints with job dissatisfaction and turnover intentions were stronger in individualistic than in collectivistic countries. Importantly, results of supplementary analyses suggested that the cultural value of individualism--collectivism moderated the mediation effect of perceived workload between work hours and both job dissatisfaction and turnover intentions. Our findings highlight the need to expand contemporary theories of work stress by applying multilevel approaches and incorporating cross-national differences in dimensions such as individualism--collectivism while studying how employees appraise and react to important work stressors. IT outsourcing is among the prevalent practices in the global business today. It is found that business organizations decide to transfer such kind of services to other firms (identified as "vendors ") mainly because of cost-related advantages. It is still not clear whether the vendors are able to provide comparative advantages from the point of view of economizing costs of the production of these services. The objective of this paper is to identify the main determinants affecting the success of IT outsourcing partnership in Bulgaria on the basis of empirical study. The paper presents selected results from a survey of the outsourcing relations between Bulgarian vendor organizations and their clients (outsourcers) considering the issues of the development of successful strategic partnerships in outsourcing practices. In 2008 an empirical survey of outsourcing partnerships in 28 organizations providing high technology services has been conducted based on cases of Bulgarian vendor organizations. Although cross-national work-family research has made great strides in recent decades, knowledge accumulation on the impact of culture on the work-family interface has been hampered by a limited geographical and cultural scope that has excluded countries where cultural expectations regarding work, family, and support may differ. We advance this literature by investigating work-family relationships in a broad range of cultures, including understudied regions of the world (i.e., Sub-Saharan Africa, Southern Asia). We focus on humane orientation (HO), an overlooked cultural dimension that is however central to the study of social support and higher in those regions. We explore its moderating effect on relationships between work and family social support, work-family conflict, and work-family positive spillover. Building on the congruence and compensation perspectives of fit theory, we test alternative hypotheses on a sample of 10,307 participants from 30 countries/territories. We find HO has mostly a compensatory role in the relationships between workplace support and work-to-family conflict. Specifically, supervisor and coworker supports were most strongly and negatively related to conflict in cultures in which support is most needed (i.e., lower HO cultures). Regarding positive spillover, HO has mostly an amplifying role. Coworker (but not supervisor) support was most strongly and positively related to work-to-family positive spillover in higher HO cultures, where providing social support at work is consistent with the societal practice of providing support to one another. Likewise, instrumental (but not emotional) family support was most strongly and positively related to family-to-work positive spillover in higher HO cultures.
