Objectives: The presence of parents during dental treatment in children is a controversial concern in dental practice. This is because of conflicting views and practices regarding the presence of parents. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate parental response to their presence/absence during their child's dental treatment and to determine the factors that would influence their decision. Methods: A cross‐sectional survey questionnaire was administered to United Arab Emirates (UAE) parents. A total of 240 parents participated in the survey, which contained 15 questions that analyzed the participants' demographic details, dental procedures influencing parental separation, and factors influencing their desire to be present during their child's dental treatment. Results: Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi‐square tests (p < 0.05). The majority (78%) of the parents chose to stay with their children during dental treatment, with a higher prevalence of female parents. The results showed that more parents opted to be with their children during invasive procedures. Younger parents are more likely to stay with their children during dental treatment. The factors influencing parental presence/absence in the dental treatment room depended on the age and nationality of the parent and the type of dental procedure (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Dental practitioners must provide parents with sufficient opportunities to be present during their children's dental procedures. Objectives: The objective of this review was to assess clinical trials that have examined the materials, design, and bonding of ceramic cantilevered resin‐bonded fixed dental prostheses (RBFDPs) as a potential option for replacing missing anterior teeth. The evaluation primarily focuses on the rate of restoration failure and clinical complications. Materials and Methods: A thorough search of databases including PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library, was conducted. The most recent search was performed in October 2023. Clinical studies that compared ceramic cantilevered RBFDPs with double retainers or cantilevered RBFDPs using different ceramic materials or bonding systems were included. The outcome measures considered were restoration failure and complication rates. Results: Twelve studies met the eligibility criteria. The pooled data showed a statistically significant decrease in complication events when using cantilever designs compared with double retainer designs (p < 0.05); however, there were no differences found between the two designs in terms of restoration failure. The complication and failure rate of cantilever RBFDPs did not show a statistically significant difference with or without ceramic primer application before luting with phosphate monomer‐containing luting resin (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Ceramic cantilevered RBFDPs have lower complication rates compared with those with double retainers. The use of a ceramic primer prior to luting composite resin for ceramic cantilevered RBFDPs decreases the occurrence of complications and failures, although this effect was not statistically significant. Additional research is required to confirm these findings. Glass ceramic cantilever RBFDPs showed a decrease in success after 6 years, requiring ongoing monitoring, but both zirconia and glass‐infiltrated alumina cantilever RBFDPs have demonstrated durability with excellent long‐term success and survival rates for up to 10 and 15 years. Clinical Significance: Cantilever ceramic RBFDPs in the anterior region are a less invasive and valuable treatment option, providing good esthetic results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fracture resistance is an important parameter used to predict the performance of indirect dental restorations. The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the fracture load of posterior milled nanoceramic crowns, in comparison with the lithium disilicate crowns, after fatigue loading, for two different restoration occlusal thicknesses. Forty test metal dies were fabricated by duplicating a master metal model consisting of an anatomic abutment preparation of the maxillary first premolar for a single crown. The dies were divided into two groups of 20 each for the fabrication of nanoceramic (Lava Ultimate) and lithium disilicate (IPS e.max CAD) single crowns. Each material group was further divided into two sub-groups of 10 dies each, based on crown occlusal thickness, of 0.5-mm and 0.75-mm (n = 10). Dental Type V stone dies poured from polyvinyl siloxane impressions of the test metal dies were laboratory scanned in order to design and mill 40 ceramic crowns. The crowns were cemented on to the test metal dies with a self-adhesive resin luting cement. All crowns were thermocycled (2500 cycles) and mechanically loaded (250,000 cycles) in a chewing simulator followed by static loading until failure, and the values noted. The data were statistically analyzed by 2-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD post-hoc multiple comparison tests (α = 0.05). The mean fracture loads ranged from 1022 to 1322 N for nanoceramic crowns and from 1145 to 1441 N for the lithium disilicate crowns. Two-way ANOVA revealed insignificant differences between the nanoceramic and lithium disilicate crowns (p > 0.05) in terms of fracture load. Significant differences were noted in the fracture resistance of crowns based on occlusal thickness (303 N; p = 0.013) regardless of the material used. Multiple comparisons by Tukey HSD post-hoc test showed insignificant differences between the four material-occlusal thickness groups (p > 0.05). The nanoceramic crowns were found to be comparable with lithium disilicate crowns in terms of fracture load. The mean fracture loads of all of the tested crowns were within the normal physiological masticatory load limits. Based on the fracture-resistance results, nanoceramic crowns seem to be suitable for clinical use for the tested occlusal thicknesses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to compare the push-out bond strength (PBS) between a new porous titanium post (PTP) and other marketed dental posts cemented with two types of dual-cure resin cement. A total of 96 extracted single-rooted human teeth were recruited. Four types of dental posts (n = 24 each), namely: stainless steel post (SSP), commercially-pure titanium post (CTP), fibre glass post (FGP), and PTP were cemented with two types of resin cements (RelyX U200 and ParaCore) and then sectioned at coronal and middle root levels. The specimens were subjected to a PBS test at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. The interface analysis was performed using a stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. A p-value < 0.05 was considered significant for all statistical tests. PBS recordings showed that the highest PBS mean value in RelyX group was 2.68±1.10 MPa for PTP. The differences in PBS between PTP and SSP and FGP were not significant (p = 0.098 and p = 0.075, respectively). The null hypothesis for RelyX group at both coronal and middle sections of the root was retained (p > 0.05). No failure at the post-cement interface was found in the PTP group, which was founder superior over the other posts (no gap for this interface was observed). The PTP showed similar bonding strength and adhesion to the other tested posts when using RelyX U200 cement. The PTP can be considered a new alternative option for the dental post system. Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the type of ridge (degree of angulation of the lingual concavity) and the buccolingual dimensions in the area of the first and second molars in both genders of different ages and how this will affect implant placement in the posterior mandible. Materials and Methods: This retrospective cross‐sectional study comprised cone beam computed tomography images of 150 dental patients (75 males and 71 aged ≥30). The following were measured/reported: type (morphology) of the ridge (convex [C], parallel [P], or undercut [U]), buccolingual width at the base and the crest of the ridge, and ridge height. The concavity angle, depth, and length of the U‐shaped ridge were measured too. Results: The prevalence of type U ridge ranged from 32.7% in the first molar region to 62.7% in the second molar region. Almost all measurements and ridge type distributions were comparable amongst the age groups (p >.05). Very few significant differences were found when comparing #36 versus #37 and #46 versus #47 teeth, with no differences in the distribution of the ridge types (p >.05). Quite the inverse, all measurements were statistically different when comparing #36 versus #37 and #46 versus #47 teeth, and type U ridge was more frequent in second molar compared to the first molar regions, respectively (p <.05). Many measurements were statistically higher in females; the inverse was true for a few measurements (p <.05). Type U ridge in #36 and #37 was found more frequently among males (p <.001). In contrast, the ridge types in #37 and #47 were not statistically different gender‐wise. Conclusions: The U type of ridge was more prevalent in the investigated population, encountered more frequently in the second molars generally and in the first molars of males than females. Background and Objectives: Due to a lack of long-term clinical studies that would clarify whether the insertion of three mini-implants (MDIs) can be as successful treatment as the insertion of four MDIs for the retention of mandibular overdentures (ODs), this 5-year prospective cohort study was set up. Materials and Methods: Participants (n = 83) randomly received either four or three MDIs and a mandibular OD. Clinical examinations were performed at the baseline, as well as after one, three, and five years, respectively. A total of 73 participants (38 in the four-MDI and 35 in the three-MDI groups) partook in the study. The marginal bone level change, success and survival rates, and prosthodontic maintenance were assessed. Results: Repeated measures showed that the mean peri-implant bone loss increased progressively at a small amount over five years in both groups (four-MDI group = −0.36 ± 0.74; three-MDI group = −0.33 ± 0.27 mm; p < 0.05). However, an ANCOVA revealed no significant effects of the group (no significant difference between the three- and the four-MDI groups; F = 0.085; p = 0.771), gender (F = 0.023; p = 0.88), or covariate age (F = 1.95; p = 0.167) on the dependent variable: the 5-year MBL change. The success rate (together with successful survival) was 93.8% in the four-MDI group and 91.7% in the three-MDI group. The log-rank (Mantel–Cox) test revealed no significant differences between them (X2 = 0.373; p = 0.541). Conclusions: In patients with narrow ridges, the insertion of three MDIs in the mandible for overdenture retention can be equally as successful as the insertion of four MDIs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The fracture resistance of dental post systems is influenced by the material of the post. The purpose of this systematic review and meta‐analysis was to assess if there is a difference in fracture resistance between prefabricated dental titanium posts and fiber posts. Methods: An online electronic search was performed using the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases for in vitro studies published from 2010 to 2020 in English. The retrieved eligible studies that compared the fracture resistance of titanium and fiber posts on human teeth were selected. The pooled standardized mean difference (SMD) with a 95% confidence interval was calculated. In addition, the trial sequential analysis (TSA) was performed to test if the available studies are sufficient to make conclusive evidence. Results: Of the 1165 retrieved studies, 17 studies were included in the qualitative analysis, while 16 studies were included in the quantitative analysis. Because of the high heterogeneity among studies, data from 10 studies were pooled and submitted to TSA. A total of 852 teeth were evaluated for fracture of the posts in 27 independent comparison groups. The pooled effect of the residual studies revealed no significant difference between titanium and fiber posts (SMD = –0.12; 95% CI = –0.30, 0.06; p = 0.20). Results of the TSA revealed no conclusive evidence. Conclusions: The results of the current evidence revealed no significant difference between fiber and titanium posts. The evidence is insufficient, and more standardized in vitro studies are required. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
