We explore the application of an extrapolative method that yields very accurate total and relative energies from variational and diffusion quantum Monte Carlo (VMC and DMC) results. For a trial wave function consisting of a small configuration interaction (CI) wave function obtained from full CI quantum Monte Carlo and reoptimized in the presence of a Jastrow factor and an optional backflow transformation, we find that the VMC and DMC energies are smooth functions of the sum of the squared coefficients of the initial CI wave function and that quadratic extrapolations of the non-backflow VMC and backflow DMC energies intersect within uncertainty of the exact total energy. With adequate statistical treatment of quasi-random fluctuations, the extrapolate and intersect with polynomials of order two method is shown to yield results in agreement with benchmark-quality total and relative energies for the C2, N2, CO2, and H2O molecules, as well as for the C2 molecule in its first electronic singlet excited state, using only small CI expansion sizes. The potential energy landscape (PEL) formalism is a tool within statistical mechanics that has been used in the past to calculate the equation of states (EOS) of classical rigid model liquids at low temperatures, where computer simulations may be challenging. In this work, we use classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and the PEL formalism to calculate the EOS of the flexible q-TIP4P/F water model. This model exhibits a liquid–liquid critical point (LLCP) in the supercooled regime, at (Pc = 150 MPa, Tc = 190 K, and ρc = 1.04 g/cm3) [using the reaction field technique]. The PEL-EOS of q-TIP4P/F water and the corresponding location of the LLCP are in very good agreement with the MD simulations. We show that the PEL of q-TIP4P/F water is Gaussian, which allows us to calculate the configurational entropy of the system, Sconf. The Sconf of q-TIP4P/F water is surprisingly similar to that reported previously for rigid water models, suggesting that intramolecular flexibility does not necessarily add roughness to the PEL. We also show that the Adam–Gibbs relation, which relates the diffusion coefficient D with Sconf, holds for the flexible q-TIP4P/F water model. Overall, our results indicate that the PEL formalism can be used to study molecular systems that include molecular flexibility, the common case in standard force fields. This is not trivial since the introduction of large bending/stretching mode frequencies is problematic in classical statistical mechanics. For example, as shown previously, we find that such high frequencies lead to unphysical (negative) entropy for q-TIP4P/F water when using classical statistical mechanics (yet, the PEL formalism can be applied successfully). Electronic relaxation dynamics of solution-phase redox-exfoliated molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) monolayer and multilayer ensembles are described. MoS2 was exfoliated using polyoxometalate (POM) reductants. This process yields a colloidal heterostructure consisting of MoS2 2D sheet multilayers with surface-bound POM complexes. Using two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy, transient bleaching and photoinduced absorption signals were detected at excitation/detection energies of 1.82/1.87 and 1.82/1.80 eV, respectively. Approximate 100-fs bandgap renormalization (BGR) and subsequent defect- and phonon-mediated relaxation on the picosecond timescale were resolved for several MoS2 thicknesses spanning from 1 to 2 L to ∼20 L. BGR rates were independent of sample thickness and slightly slower than observations for chemical vapor deposition-grown MoS2 monolayers. However, defect-mediated relaxation accelerated ∼10-fold with increased sample thicknesses. The relaxation rates increased from 0.33 ± 0.05 to 1.2 ± 0.1 and 3.1 ± 0.4 ps−1 for 1–2 L, 3–4 L, and 20 L fractions. The thicknesses-dependent relaxation rates for POM-MoS2 heterostructures were modeled using a saturating exponential function that showed saturation at thirteen MoS2 layers. The results suggest that the increased POM surface coverage leads to larger defect density in the POM-MoS2 heterostructure. These are the first descriptions of the influence of sample thickness on electronic relaxation rates in solution-phase redox-exfoliated POM-MoS2 heterostructures. The Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) is an approach for modeling mesoscopic fluid flow and heat transfer, based on modeling distributions of particles moving and colliding on a lattice. Using a perturbative formulation of the Boltzmann equation, it scales to the macroscopic Navier–Stokes equation. We simulate natural thermal convection via LBM in a 2D rectangular box being heated from below and cooled from above, and use the results as training, testing, and generalization datasets to build a deep learning model. GoogLeNet, a convolutional neural network, is used to classify the simulation results based on two parameters: Rayleigh (R a) and Prandtl (P r) numbers, from a single snapshot of either the entire modeling field of resolution 1024 × 1024 , or a 224 × 224 crop. For each fixed P r in a range from 1 to 128, increasing by a factor of 2, we estimate R a with an accuracy varying from 40% to 90%, depending on the chosen augmentation strategy. For each fixed R a in the range from 10 5 to 10 9 , increasing of a factor 10 , the method predicts P r with a systematically lower accuracy ranging from 30% to 80%. This approach has great potential for industrial applications like being able to control the industrial flow or scientific research on geophysical ones including the transport of heat in the earth's interiors, ocean, and atmosphere. Acoustic metamaterial concepts, such as metalenses and hyperlenses, have been studied with much interest for super-resolution imaging. However, the physics of wave scattering by sub-wavelength sized defects is still not very well understood. Here, we present studies on acoustic wave interactions with circular defects of sizes varying from over a wavelength to sub-wavelength scale. Near- and far-field scattering patterns of single circular defects are presented, connecting them to analytical frameworks. Scattering field signatures produced by two identical circular defects of different sizes placed side by side are then discussed. The separation distance between the defects is among the parameters varied to understand the effects of geometric features in successful imaging. Experimental results are presented to support the predictions reported in the paper. The insights have important implications for sub-wavelength imaging using acoustic metamaterials. Heusler alloy-based magnetic tunnel junctions have the potential to provide high spin polarization, small damping, and fast switching. In this study, junctions with a ferromagnetic electrode of Co2FeAl were fabricated via room-temperature sputtering on Si/SiO2 substrates. The effect of boron doping on Co2FeAl magnetic tunnel junctions was investigated for different boron concentrations. The surface roughness determined by atomic force microscope, and the analysis of x-ray diffraction measurement on the Co2FeAl thin film reveals critical information about the interface. The Co2FeAl layer was deposited on the bottom and on the top of the insulating MgO layer as two different sample structures to compare the impact of the boron doping on different layers through tunneling magnetoresistance measurements. The doping of boron in Co2FeAl had a large positive impact on the structural and magneto-transport properties of the junctions, with reduced interfacial roughness and substantial improvement in tunneling magnetoresistance. In samples annealed at low temperature, a two-level magnetoresistance was also observed. This is believed to be related to the memristive effect of the tunnel barrier. This article examines the possibilities engendered by land-based analyses within the sociology of sport. We examine how "Canada's" Truth and Reconciliation Commission's calls to action on sport reproduce a logic of social inclusion, one which assimilates Indigenous athletes and Peoples into settler models of sport. To consider epistemological tools for unsettling settler sport systems, we turn to critical Indigenous scholarship on land-based analyses and pedagogies. To illustrate the possibilities of land-based analyses, we examine lacrosse, an Indigenous sporting practice with roots embedded in relational interconnectedness with the land. A land-based approach to sport offers opportunities for revising the assumptions, values, and ethics underpinning settler models of sport through, for example, emphasizing the importance of community, healing, and land stewardship. Indigenous Peoples have an inherent responsibility and right to "exercising" sovereignty—the practice of sport and physical activity in performance of our cultural, political, and spiritual citizenship. By exercising this inherent right and responsibility, sport has the power for communities to reenvision their futures. Sport and physical activity are highly regarded and practiced in multiple contexts within Indigenous communities. Utilizing Indigenous ways of knowing, practices of resurgence, Indigenous activism, and Indigenous responses to political and cultural injustices, we apply the five protective factors of "exercising" sovereignty, including community, relationality, strength, abundance, and resilience to analyze Indigenous sport research in North America. In this special issue, which calls for a "more radical sociology of sport and physical culture," the purpose of this paper is to address how practices of reflexivity might be mobilized among critical sport scholars toward changing the intersectional, fragmented, and complex communities we inhabit inside and outside the academy. We begin by conducting a literature review of researcher reflexivity and positionality in Sociology of Sport Journal from 2000 to 2022. Utilizing Wanda Pillow's "reflexivities of discomfort," we interrogate our own research by engaging in a reflexive dialogue as "critical friends." Through this work, we try to make sense of the potential of these dialogues for shaping our ethical, political, and personal approaches to research, writing, methodology, and knowledge production. We report threshold collision induced dissociation experiments on protonated water clusters thermalized at low temperature for sizes n = 19–23. Fragmentation cross sections are recorded as a function of the collision energy and analyzed with a statistical model. This model allows us to account for dissociation cascades and provides values for the dissociation energies of each cluster. These values, averaging around 0.47 eV, are in good agreement with theoretical predictions at various levels of theory. Furthermore, the dissociation energies show a trend for the n = 21 magic and n = 22 anti-magic numbers relative to their neighbours, which is also in agreement with theory. These results provide further evidence to resolve the disagreement between previously published experimental values. A careful quantitative treatment of cascade dissociation in this model introduces interdependence between the dissociation energies of neighboring sizes, which reduces the number of free fitting parameters and improves both reliability and uncertainties on absolute dissociation energies deduced from experiments. High quality, uni-polar, epitaxial AlN with minimum oxygen content promises excellent surface acoustic wave and bulk acoustic wave resonator characteristics such as high electromechanical coupling coefficient and power handling capabilities, which is particularly useful for RF filter applications. By systematically varying the growth temperature, the study investigates its impact on the oxygen levels, defect states, and crystallographic texture of the AlN thin films using a combination of atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction, time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry, spectroscopic ellipsometry, scanning transmission electron microscopy, as well as room temperature and temperature dependent I–V measurements. The research demonstrates that the films grown at a temperature of 700 ° C exhibit the most favorable results. These films exhibit the lowest oxygen levels, possess epitaxial growth, and display the highest crystalline quality (XRD AlN 0002 ω − FWHM = 1.3 °). Additionally, these films demonstrate a significant reduction in sub-bandgap absorption. By comparing the cathode current measured during deposition, we suggest that the presence of an impurity layer formed during idle time between depositions as a possible source of oxygen in the sputter chamber. In addition, the study presents a possible model to explain the mixed polarity observed in AlN and proposes various ways to achieve uni-polar AlN on silicon substrates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The world is currently grappling with unprecedented levels of water pollution, largely attributed to the presence of detrimental chemicals and dyes posing substantial environmental hazards. This study endeavors to develop highly efficient materials capable of extracting anionic dyes from polluted water reservoirs. Utilizing the coprecipitation method, nickel-chrome and zinc-chrome layered double hydroxides (LDH) were synthesized and subsequently analyzed using advanced analytical techniques. The efficiency of both materials in removing anionic dyes Congo Red (CR) and Indigo Carmine (IC) was investigated by analyzing various parameters, including initial solution pH, adsorbent dose, dye concentration, time, and temperature effects. In binary solutions, ZnCr-LDH exhibited a higher adsorption capacity of 109.10 mg g-1 and 78.64 mg g-1 for IC and CR dyes, respectively. The competitive removal of a binary dye mixture is primarily influenced by electrostatic attraction. Isotherm models were employed for analysis, with the Freundlich model found to be the best fit for IC adsorption onto NiCr-LDH and the Sips model for IC adsorption onto ZnCr-LDH. In binary systems, the extended Freundlich and non-modified Redlich-Peterson models provided the best fit to the isotherm data. ZnCr-LDH demonstrated higher removal efficiency than NiCr-LDH. Abiotic stress, especially salinization, is considered a major soil problem in arid and semiarid regions. To combat salinization, halophytes such as date palms are grown in these areas. However, less information is available on the morphological and biochemical responses of different date palm cultivars under high salinity. In this regard, eight cultivars of date palm were selected and treated with different salinity levels to check the adaptive capabilities of these cultivars against salt stress in terms of morphological and biochemical attributes. The objective of the current study was to screen these cultivars for tolerance or susceptibility to salt stress (0, 50, 100, and 200 mM NaCl). The results of the morphological parameters revealed the negative impact of salt stress on the morphology. Higher concentrations of salt reduced the plant height (Haleemi, Dahakki, Sanduri, Saghoi, Tarwali, and Hamanwali), the number of leaves (Haleemi, Basrawali, Dhakki, Sanduri, Saghoi, and Gajjar), leaf length (Haleemi, Dhakki, Sanduri, Saghoi, and Hamanwali), leaf width (Sanduri), leaf area (Haleemi, Sanduri, Saghoi, Tarwali, and Hamanwali), fresh weight (Halimi, Dhakki, Sanduri, Saghoi, and Tarwali), dry weight % (Halimi, Basrawali, Dhakki, Sanduri, Saghoi, Tarwali, Hamanwali, and Gajjar) and root length (Haleemi, Basrawali, Dhakki, Sanduri, and Gajjar) in most of the cultivars. Generally, it was observed that leaf tissues showed a significant (p≤0.05) increase in the superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and peroxidase (POD) activities with the increasing salt concentrations. Current analysis showed that salinity significantly (p≤0.05) decreased the accumulation of total phenolic contents (TPC) in the leaf tissues of Haleemi, Basrawali, Dhakki, Sanduri, Saghoi, Tarwali, Hamanwali, and Gajjar. However, a reduction in the carotenoid contents in cultivars (Haleemi, Basrawali, Dhakki, Sanduri, Saghoi, Tarwali, Hamanwali, and Gajjar) was noted with an increase in the salt concentration. Salt stress significantly reduced the anthocyanin contents in some cultivars (Haleemi, Basrawali, Sanduri, Saghoi, Tarwali, Hamanwali, and Gajjar). This species is highly adapted to salt stress conditions by the evolution of an osmoregulation mechanism. These results suggest that although date palm is tolerant of high salinity, there is variation in tolerance among different cultivars. Based on the recorded parameters, it is concluded that Saghoi was the most salt-tolerant cultivar out of the test ones, followed by Sanduri, Tarwali, and Hamanwali, respectively. Due to their special qualities, nanoparticles are quite interesting. Various techniques have been developed for their synthesis, which frequently calls for high pressure, temperature, and solvents. Therefore, green synthesis may be the ideal choice as an affordable and environmentally responsible method for creating nanoparticles. A common strategy in material synthesis for environmental friendliness is the green production of nanoparticles employing various plant components and their extracts. Numerous metal nanoparticles with putative bioactivities have been produced using plant extracts. This study describes the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using a combined extract of Onion and Garlic peel, as well as an evaluation of their cytotoxicity activities. AgNPs morphology and crystalline phase were characterized using UV spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Scanning electron transfer microscopy analysis. The generated AgNPs were almost quasi-spherical in shape, well distributed and scattered in nature, and had an average size diameter of 10.5 nm, according to characterisation study. The AgNPs displayed unique cytotoxic properties. The outcomes demonstrated the potential of combined extract of Onion and Garlic peel extract as a biomaterial for the synthesis of AgNPs. Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate drug use disorders which are a major cause of Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR). Methods: This article is a part of the global burden of diseases (GBD), injuries, and risk factors 2019 study. The GBD modeling approach was used to estimate population-level prevalence of drug use disorders. We combined these estimates with disability weights to calculate years of life lived with disability (YLDs), years of life lost (YLLs), and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) for 1990–2019. Results: It is estimated that in 2019 in EMR around 3.4 million people have drug use disorder which has increased by 137% compared to 1990. Also, in 2019, DALY number for drug use disorders was 1217.9 (95% UI: 940.4, 1528.9) thousand years and 7645 (95% UI: 6793.7, 8567.9) deaths occurred. The DALY rate increased 39.6% in the region since1990, whereas the global rate increased by 24.4%. United Arab Emirates, Libya, and Iran were most affected by drug use disorders with the highest rates of age-standardized DALY in EMR in 2019. The most prevalent drug use disorder in the region is opioid use which is accountable for 80% of all drug use disorders DALYs. Conclusion: Despite many interventions, drug use disorders are still responsible for high rates of DALY in the region which has increased since 1990 in both males and females; more comprehensive policies, better control measures and proper education could reduce the adverse effects. A new approach for compatibilizing polyamide-66 (PA-66)/high density polyethylene blends using polyamide-grafted ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH-g-PA) is presented in this study. EVOH-g-PA was prepared through sequential reactions of adipoyl chloride and hexamethylenediamine with hydroxyl groups of EVOH chains. Two different EVOHs having 44 and 88 mol% ethylene monomer were modified to obtain EVOH44-g-PA and EVOH88-g-PA, respectively. The efficiency of modified EVOHs in compatibilization of PA/PE blends were evaluated by morphological observations as well as rheological and crystallization measurements. The PE droplets in the PA matrix became finer when EVOH44-g-PA or EVOH88-g-PA were incorporated in the blends. However, the compatibilizing effects of EVOH88-g-PA were more pronounced due to higher ethylene content in the primitive EVOH chain promoting its diffusion into the PE droplets. The complex viscosity of compatibilized blends were also enhanced showing the improved adhesion between PA and PE phases. A reduction in the crystallization temperatures (Tc) of PA matrix was noticed upon inclusion of modified EVOHs which was associated with the lowered nucleating activity of the interface due to decreased interfacial tension in the compatibilized blends. Context There is an inconsistency between the results obtained from observational studies regarding intake of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and the risk of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Objectives A dose-response meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the relationship between UPF intake and the risk of IBD. Data Sources Searches were performed in the PubMed, ISI Web of Science, and Scopus databases up to November 2, 2022. Data Extraction Data were available from 24 studies including a total of 4 035 694 participants from 20 countries. Data Analysis Risk ratios for IBD were analyzed by a random-effects model. Outcomes indicated that UPF intake was linked to an increased risk of IBD (relative risk [RR], 1.13; 95%CI, 1.06–1.21; P = 0.001; I2 = 73.2%; n = 59; N = 4 035 694). This association was significant, especially for the risk of Crohn's disease (CD) (RR, 1.19; 95%CI, 1.00–1.41; I2 = 78.2%; P = 0.046; n = 23; N = 2 167 160), unlike the risk of ulcerative colitis (UC) (RR = 1.11; 95%CI, 0.99–1.26; P = 0.085; I2 = 60.3%; n = 27; N = 2 167 918). Also, results revealed that each 10% enhancement in daily UPF intake was not related to the risk of IBD (RR, 1.05; 95%CI, 0.98–1.14; P = 0.168; I2 = 31.9%; n = 4) or the risk of UC (RR, 1.01; 95%CI, 0.92–1.11; P = 0.876; I2 = 34.7%; n = 2) in adults. However, results suggested that for every 10% increase in daily UPF intake, there was a 19% increase in the risk of CD (RR, 1.19; 95%CI, 1.01–1.32; P = 0.021; I2 = 0.0%; n = 2) among adults. In addition, the results showed a positive linear relation between UPF intake with CD risk (Pnonlinearity = 0.431; Pdose response = 0.049) but not risk of IBD or UC. Conclusion High intake of UPFs was linked with an enhanced IBD risk, a specific risk of CD. However, conducting more observational studies among several ethnicities and using specific tools that accurately assess the amount of UPF consumption, components of UPFs, and food additives may be necessary. In this paper, we study the tunneling radiation from a charged-accelerating AdS black hole with gauge potential under the impact of quantum gravity. Using the semi-classical phenomenon known as the Hamilton–Jacobi ansatz, it is studied that tunneling radiation occurs via the horizon of a black hole and also employs the Lagrangian equation using the generalized uncertainty principle. Furthermore, we investigate the impact of charge, gauge potential, and first order correction parameters on the temperature as well as the stable and unstable states of the black hole. We also compute thermodynamic properties such as entropy, internal energy, Helmholtz free energy, enthalpy, specific heat, and Gibbs free energy under the impact of the correction parameter for the black hole. We calculate the logarithmic modification terms for entropy around the equilibrium state to analyze the impacts of logarithmic correction. In the presence of the correction terms, we also check the validity of the thermodynamics. It examines the graphical representation of the influence of logarithmic correction on the thermodynamic properties of black hole stability as well as charged, accelerating, and gauge potential parameters. Prostate cancer (PC) is the second most prevalent cancer in males, with a steadily increas)ing incidence in the Middle East (ME). The aim of this study was to capture real-world data on the characteristics, disease progression, and treatment patterns among PC patients in the ME. This was a retrospective, observational, multi-centre study conducted across ten hospitals/research centers in Lebanon, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait. Data were abstracted from medical records of 615 male patients who were diagnosed with PC between January 2012 and the site initiation date (December 2018-May 2019) and received at least one PC treatment/intervention. The observation period ranged between 84 and 88 months. Data were collected on demographics, clinical characteristics, time to progression to the subsequent clinical state or therapy (progression from localised/ locally advanced PC to castration and to metastatic PC (metastatic castration-sensitive PC (mCSPC) or metastatic castration-resistant PC (mCRPC)), progression from mCSPC to mCRPC, and mCRPC patients’ progression to first subsequent line of therapy), treatment patterns, and mortality. Most patients had localised/locally advanced PC (57.7%), fol)lowed by mCSPC (37.4%), and mCRPC (4.1%) at the time of inclusion in the study. Most patients were at tumours, nodes and metastases (TNM) stage IIIa (40.1%) or TNM stage IVb (27.8%) at study entry. Median time to metastatic disease, castration-resistance and next line therapy was 84 months (95% CI: 68–84), 41 months (95% CI: 30–56) and 7 months (95% CI: 0–41), respectively. The mortality rate was 3.6%. Disease progression was most common among patients with mCSPC (35.1%) or mCRPC (14.8%), and treatment discontinuation was most common among patients with mCRPC (36.6% treatments discontinued). The results show that most patients were at an advanced TNM stage at study entry, suggestive of a lack of awareness regarding PC. Disease progression was most common among patients with metastatic disease, reflecting the challenge of treating metastatic disease and highlighting the need for novel treatments. From the perspective of possible antiviral and antibacterial activity of vanadium‐based complexes, we report the synthesis of new Schiff base ligand (L4) and a new Schiff‐base‐vanadium complex (C2). Both the ligand and the complex were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. Single‐crystal X‐ray Diffraction analysis has been used to confirm the structure of ligand L4 and complex C2. In addition, L1–4 and C1–3 were tested for their antibacterial effects against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Among the compounds, L2 demonstrated the most potent inhibition of both bacteria, exhibiting the lowest values for minimum inhibitory concentration (CMI) and minimum bactericidal concentration (CMB) (CMI = 0.16, CMB = 0.31 against E. coli, and CMI = CMB = 0.16 against S. aureus). Additionally, L2 produced the largest inhibition zones with diameters of 15.5 ± 0.15 against E. coli and 14.5 ± 0.04 against S. aureus. Furthermore, the antiviral efficacy of L1, L2, L4, C1, C2, and C3 against RNA viruses was assessed. C2 and C3 exhibited the most potent antiviral activity among the tested compounds. Immunosuppressants, such as methotrexate (MTX), can suppress the COVID-19 vaccine response in patients with autoimmune diseases. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the effects of MTX hold following COVID-19 vaccination on vaccine efficacy response. A systematic review and meta-analysis of relevant studies retrieved from Web of Science, SCOPUS, PubMed, and CENTRAL from inception until Oct 1, 2023, was conducted. Covidence was used to screen the eligible articles, and all relevant outcomes data were synthesized using risk ratios (RRs) or standardized mean differences (SMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) in meta-analysis models within RevMan 5.4. PROSPERO ID: CRD42024511628. Four studies with a total of 762 patients with autoimmune inflammatory disorders were included. Holding MTX following the COVID-19 vaccination for approximately 2 weeks was associated with significantly higher antibody titer (SMD: 0.70, 95% CI [0.54, 0.87], P < 0.00001). However, the flare rate was significantly higher in the MTX hold group based on CDAI > 10 or DAS28-CRP > 1.2 either after 1st dose (RR: 2.49 with 95% CI [1.39, 4.47], P = 0.002) or 2nd dose (RR: 2.16 with 95% CI [1.37, 3.41], P = 0.0009) and self-reported disease flare (RR: 1.71 with 95% CI [1.35, 2.17], P < 0.00001). Holding MTX for 2 weeks after the COVID-19 vaccination resulted in significantly higher antibody titer but also had a higher disease flare rate, necessitating cautious clinical monitoring during this period. A S-scheme heterojunction of CuPc/DR-MoS 2 with abundant sulfur vacancies is proposed, enabling extended visible-light absorption, enhanced charge carrier separation/transfer, and improved efficiency of semiconductors. Herein, a CuPc/DR-MoS 2 heterojunction involving copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) and molybdenum disulfide with S-rich vacancies (13.66%) is successfully prepared by the facile hydrothermal method. Experimental results and theoretical calculations firmly demonstrated that photoelectrons exhibit an S-scheme charge transfer mechanism in the CuPc/DR-MoS 2 heterojunction. The S-scheme heterojunction system has proven significant advantages in promoting the charge separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers, enhancing visible-light responsiveness, and achieving robust photoredox capability. As a result, the optimized 3CuPc/DR-MoS 2 S-scheme heterojunction exhibits photocatalytic yields of CO and CH 4 at 200 and 111.6 μmol g-1h−1, respectively. These values are four times and 4.5 times greater than the photocatalytic yields of pure DR-MoS 2. In the fog computing-based Internet of Things (IoT) architecture, the sensor devices represent the basic elements needed to sense the surrounding environment. They gather and send a huge amount of data to the fog gateway and then to the cloud due to their use in various real-world IoT applications. This would lead to high data traffic, increased energy consumption, and slow decisions at the fog gateway. Therefore, it is important to reduce the transmitted data to save energy and provide an accurate decision regarding the safety and health of the building’s environment. This paper suggests an energy-aware data transmission approach with decision-making (EDaTAD) for Fog Computing-based IoT applications. It works on two-level nodes in the fog computing-based TI architecture: sensor devices and fog gateways. The EDaTAD implements a Lightweight Redundant Data Removing (LiReDaR) algorithm at the sensor device level to lower the gathered data before sending it to the fog gateway. In the fog gateway, a decision-making model is proposed to provide suitable decisions to the monitoring staff in remote monitoring applications. Finally, it executes a Data Set Redundancy Elimination (DaSeRE) approach to discard the repetitive data sets before sending them to the cloud for archiving and further analysis. EDaTAD outperforms other methods in terms of transmitted data, energy consumption, and data accuracy. Controlling the hazard of sclerotia produced by the Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is very complex, and it is urgent to adopt an effective method that is harmonious environmentally to control the disease. Among the six isolates isolated from the rhizosphere of lettuce, the isolate HZA84 demonstrated a high activity in its antagonism towards Sclerotinia sclerotiorum in vitro, and produces siderophore. By amplification of internal transcribed spacer (ITS), translation elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF1-α), and RNA polymerase II subunit (RPB2) genes, the isolate HZA84 was identified as Trichoderma asperellum, which was confirmed by analysis of phylogenetic tree. The Scanning electron microscope monitoring detected that the isolate HZA84 spread over the sclerotial surface, thus, damaging, decomposing, and distorting the globular cells of the outer cortex of the sclerotia. The Real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analysis disclosed the overexpression of two genes (chit33 and chit37) encoding the endochitinase in addition to one gene (prb1) encoding the proteinase during 4 and 8 days of the parasitism behavior of isolate HZA84 on the sclerotia surface. These enzymes aligned together in the sclerotia destruction by hyperparasitism. On the other hand, the pots trial revealed that spraying of isolate HZA84 reduced the drop disease symptoms of lettuce. The disease severity was decreased by 19.33 and the biocontrol efficiency was increased by 80.67% within the fourth week of inoculation. ABSTRACT Caregiving for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) poses significant stress for parents, necessitating an exploration of mitigating factors. This study investigates the interplay between Family Sense of Coherence, Psychological Capital and caregiver stress in this context. A total of 205 caregivers of children with ASD participated in this cross‐sectional study. Data were collected on Family Sense of coherence, Psychological Capital (encompassing hope, resilience, optimism and self‐efficacy) and caregiver stress. Structural equation modelling was employed to test the mediation effect of psychological capital between family sense of coherence and caregiver stress. The results indicated a strong positive correlation between family sense of coherence and all subdomains of psychological capital, with coefficients ranging from 0.541 to 0.610. Conversely, psychological capital demonstrated significant negative correlations with various domains of the Kingstone Caregiver Stress Scale, including caregiving, family issues and financial issues (coefficients from −0.443 to −0.427). Furthermore, family sense of coherence showed a direct negative effect on stress (β = −0.384, p < 0.001). Notably, the study revealed a significant mediating role of psychological capital in the relationship between family sense of coherence and caregiver stress, with an indirect effect of family sense of coherence on stress through psychological capital (β = −0.127). The findings underscore the crucial role of family sense of coherence and psychological capital in enhancing psychological resources and mitigating stress among caregivers of children with ASD. These results suggest that interventions aimed at strengthening family coherence and building psychological capital could be effective strategies in alleviating stress among caregivers of children with ASD. Aims Methods and Results Conclusions Rabies virus (RV) is endemic in some Arabian countries. However, it is difficult to control RV without understanding the epidemiological evolution of endemic RV isolates. The current study aimed to characterize RV from domestic and wild animal clinical cases in Oman.Twelve brain samples from domestic (Five camels, three goats and one cattle) and wild animals (Two foxes and one honey badger) were investigated from different locations in Oman between 2017 and 2020. All samples were confirmed by RV nucleoprotein (N) gene‐specific primers. Seven out of the 12 amplified samples were successfully sequenced and subjected to sequence and phylogenetic analysis. The detected RVs shared an in‐between 96.8%–98.7% and 96.9%–99% nucleotide and amino acid identities, respectively. However, the wild animal RVs shared only 92.6%–93.9% and 95.9% nucleotide and amino acid identities with the domestic animal RVs, respectively. Negri bodies were detected histologically in six brain samples from camels (n = 3), goats (n = 1) and foxes (n = 2). The RVs from domestic animals shared 97%–98.7% and 98%–100% nucleotide and amino acid identities with the previously published fox RVs from Oman and Gulf countries. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that all RV sequences belong to a distinct clade confined to the previously reported clade V within the Middle Eastern Cluster.As indicated by the analysis of RVs from different locations between 2017 and 2020, a genetic variant isolated to the Gulf region may exist within the Middle East clade. Moreover, it appears that new RV lineages are emerging rapidly within this region. Four novel Pd (II), Cu (II), VO (II), and Ag(I) complexes were prepared from benzimidazole ligand through bidentate chelating mode. Alternative spectral and analytical tools were applied to elucidate their structural and molecular formulae. This study was extended to investigate stability and stoichiometry of complexes in solution, using standard methods. In addition, the best atomic distribution within structural forms was obtained via the density functional theory (DFT) method. This computational study fed us with significant physical characteristics for differentiation. Also, DFT/time‐dependent DFT computations were performed applying (B3LYP/6‐311++G[d,p]/aug‐cc‐pVTZ/aug‐cc‐pVTZ‐PP) level in order to investigate the electronic behavior of the compounds. These results demonstrated good agreement with the experimental data. Computational data discriminate Pd (II) complex by some physical features, which may be promising in the catalytic field. This complex was selected to play a catalytic function to synthesize 3‐methyl‐4‐phenyl‐4,9‐dihydro‐1H‐pyrazolo[3,4‐d][1,2,4]triazolo[1,5‐a]pyrimidine derivatives using microwave irradiation in a one‐pot reaction. The catalyst was selected for this application based on the history of Pd (II) complexes and the properties expected theoretically. A condensation reaction for 3‐methyl‐5‐pyrazolone, aromatic aldehyde, and 5‐aminotetrazole was carried out under mild reaction conditions by microwave irradiation. All reaction conditions were optimized among those variable Lewis acid catalysts in comparison with our new complexes. DOBPAPd catalyst displayed superiority in overall trials with high yield, short time, and green conditions (solvent H2O/EtOH). Also, the recovery of hetero catalyst was succeeded and reused by the same efficiency up to five times after that the efficiency was reduced. Energy hubs (EHs) represent a pivotal paradigm in achieving optimal resource utilization across various energy domains. This paper presents an advanced framework for the optimal management of a smart island, leveraging the synergies within the water-electricity nexus. By integrating diverse resources, including electricity, water, heat, and hydrogen, the proposed EH model aims to meet the multifaceted demands of consumers on the island. To enhance operational efficiency, this study delves into the nuanced impacts of key EH components, elucidating their roles in meeting demand profiles and minimizing operational costs. Formulated as a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model, the EH optimization problem is addressed using the GAMS optimization tool. The overarching objective is to fulfill consumer demand while concurrently optimizing resource utilization, considering factors such as storage degradation costs and emissions from fossil-fuel-based units. In addition to strategic optimization, this study pioneers a novel approach to stochastic parameter forecasting, integrating convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and long-short-term memory networks (LSTMs). By harnessing the capabilities of these advanced forecasting techniques, the EH model can anticipate dynamic changes in demand patterns with heightened accuracy and precision. The empirical results underscore the transformative potential of the proposed EH framework, showcasing significant reductions—up to 30%—in emission costs. The objective of this research is to predict the thermal observations for hybrid nanofluid conveying the thin film flow influenced by the suction phenomenon and slip consequences. The copper and aluminum nanoparticles are utilized to explore the hybrid nanofluid features. In addition, a uniform magnetic field perpendicular to the motion of the nanoliquid has been generated. By utilizing appropriate dimensionless quantities, partial differential equations (PDEs) are transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The controlling method for boundary value problems (BVP4C) has been applied against the thermal profile. The coating film's thickness has been kept fixed. The skin friction and Nusselt number distribution are calculated for blood over the shrinking sheet in the attendance of the radiation and velocity slip parameters. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of 12 weeks of aerobic exercise (AT) and saffron supplementation on hemostasis, inflammatory markers, and insulin resistance in obese women diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (T2D). A total of 44 women with T2D (mean age: 54.12 ± 5.63 years, mean BMI: 31.15 ± 1.50 kg/m2, HbA1c: 85 ± 4.2 mmol/mol) were included in a randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled study. We were randomly assigned to one of four groups (n = 11 per group): saffron + training (ST), placebo + training (PT), saffron supplement (SS), and placebo (P). The ST and PT groups completed 12 weeks of AT (three sessions per week of mild to moderate intensity). The ST and SS groups were administered a daily dose of 200 mg of saffron powder for 12 weeks. Fasting blood samples were collected 48 h before the first AT session and/or nutritional supplementation and 48 h after the last AT session and/or nutritional supplementation. Post‐evaluation, homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance value (HOMA‐IR, p < 0.001) and serum levels of glucose (p < 0.001), fibrinogen (FIB, p < 0.001), homocysteine (HCY, p < 0.001), interleukin‐6 (IL‐6, p < 0.001), and tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα, p < 0.001) showed significant reduction in the ST, PT, and SS groups compared to the P group (p < 0.05). In particular, the ST group showed a more significant reduction in all variables compared to the PT and SS groups (p < 0.05). Our results suggest that a 12‐week intervention with AT and saffron supplementation can independently improve markers related to hemostasis, inflammation, and insulin resistance. In the last two decades or so, a large number of image ciphers have been written. The majority of these ciphers encrypt only one image at a time. Few image ciphers were written which could encrypt multiple images in one session. The current era needs speedy multiple image ciphers to address its varied needs in different settings. Motivated by this dictation, the current study has ventured to write a multi-image cipher based on the fleet of pawns walking in the large hypothetical chessboard. This walk of pawns on the chessboard has been ingeniously linked with transferring the pixels from the plain image to the scrambled image. The confusion effects have been realized through the XOR operation between the scrambled image and the key image. The plaintext sensitivity has been incorporated by embedding the SHA-384 hash codes of the given large combined plain image. Moreover, the Henon map has been employed to spawn the streams of random numbers. Besides, Blum Blum Shub random number generator has been used to further cement the security of the proposed cipher. We got a computational time of 0.2278 seconds and an encryption throughput of 5.5782 MBit/seconds by using the four images with a size of 256×256. Apart from that, the information entropy gained is 7.9993. Lastly, the cipher has been subjected to an array of validation metrics to demonstrate its aversion to the myriad threats from the cryptanalysis savvy. Background: Chronic osteomyelitis is a debilitating bone infection, characterized by a persistent infection over months to years, poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to its insidious nature and potential for severe bone and soft tissue destruction. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to review the literature on the treatment of chronic osteomyelitis in long bones and assess cure rates in single versus two-stage surgery. Methods: Following the PRISMA guidelines and registered with PROSPERO (ID: CRD42021231237), this review included studies that reported on the management of chronic osteomyelitis in long bones using either a planned one-stage or two-stage surgical approach in adult patients. Databases searched included Medline, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, HMIC, and AMED, using keywords related to osteomyelitis, long bones, and surgical management. Eligibility criteria focused on adults with chronic osteomyelitis in long bones, with outcomes reported after a minimum follow-up of 12 months. The meta-analysis utilized the random-effects model to pool cure rates. Results: The analysis included 42 studies with a total of 1605 patients. The overall pooled cure rate was 91% (CI 95%) with no significant difference observed between single-stage and two-stage surgeries (X2 = 0.76, P > 0.05). Complications were reported in 26.6% of cases in single-stage procedures and 27.6% in two-stage procedures, with prolonged wound drainage noted as a common issue. Dead space management techniques varied across studies, with antibiotic-loaded calcium sulphate beads used in 30.4% of cases. Conclusion: This meta-analysis reveals no significant difference in cure rates between single and two-stage surgical treatments for chronic osteomyelitis in long bones, supporting the efficacy of both approaches. The current treatment strategy should include a combination of debridement, dead space management using local and systematic antibiotics and soft tissue reconstruction if necessary. In the present work, the barrier energies (Eb) of CH4 formation and C–C coupling and the mechanism of Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTS) on different cluster sizes of cobalt were investigated. Three cobalt clusters with 10, 18, and 30 atoms (Co-10, Co-18, and Co-30) were used for comparison of the results. The Eb, transition state, and reaction energy (ΔEr) were analyzed by using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results showed that CH4 was produced more easily on the small cluster (Co-10) than on the other two clusters. The Eb values for the Co-10, Co-18, and Co-30 clusters were 1.62, 2.53, and 2.44 eV, respectively. The Eb values for dissociation of CO on the three clusters Co-10, Co-18, and Co-30 were 1.64, 0.93, and 1.81 eV, respectively, and the minimum Eb was related to the Co-18 cluster. Also, the tendency towards chain growth increased with increasing cobalt cluster size. The results showed that the mechanism of the FTS reaction was dependent on the particle size of the cobalt clusters. It can be concluded that the Co-10 cluster followed the CO insertion mechanism and the Co-18 cluster followed the carbide mechanism in the FTS reaction. Also, the Co-30 cluster followed both mechanisms (CO insertion and carbide mechanisms) in the FTS reaction. Insect gut microbes represent a rich source of enzymes and metabolic pathways that can be harnessed to advance renewable energy production. This review explores the potential of insect gut microbiota in the context of biomass degradation and biofuel production. Insects, particularly wood‐feeding species like termites and beetles, harbour complex microbial communities in their guts that efficiently break down lignocellulosic materials into simple sugars. These sugars can then be fermented into biofuels such as ethanol and methane. Recent research has focused on identifying key microbial species and enzymes involved in this process, as well as on engineering these microbes to enhance their efficiency and substrate specificity. Additionally, the ecological roles of these microbes in insect digestion and their potential for biotechnological applications beyond biofuel production are discussed. OBJECTIVES: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has profoundly impacted residency and fellowship training and education. However, how and to what extent the COVID-19 pandemic in Lebanon compromised the daily involvement of trainees on the clinical and ethical levels is currently unknown, which this study will shed light on. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey (30 questions) targeting medical residents delivering healthcare services in Lebanon. Residents from different specialties were included in the study to assess the effect of the pandemic on their education and the ethical obstacles they faced when dealing with patients. RESULTS: A total of 221 postgraduate medical students participated in our study. Results showed that about half of the residents (52.1%) were only able to do a basic physical examination rather than a full examination as a mandatory requirement in the residency curriculum. The majority (60%) agreed that the doctor–patient relationship is contravened. In addition, almost all residents suffered from fear and emotional distress that affected their education (83.7%). CONCLUSION: The findings of this study identify the effect of COVID-19 on residents' training, which affects treatment outcomes and greatly impacts the mental well-being of both healthcare workers and patients. In the current competitive market, green products are becoming more and more in demand across all customer demographics due to environmental contamination. Consequently, this has a direct impact on the notable rise in product demand. Conversely, a product cannot be used or repurposed if its maximum useful life has already elapsed. Therefore, the product's maximum lifespan plays a crucial role in inventory management. Advance payment is a critical component of the supplier–retailer relationship for a seasonal product with high demand. By integrating these issues, an inventory model for perishable goods is created, wherein the demand for the good is impacted by both its selling price and its green level. The model also includes linearly time‐dependent holding costs. According to this model, product greenness has an increasing effect on per‐unit costs. Different numerical examples are studied for supporting this model. Optimality of the objective function is shown graphically as well as numerically with the help of MATHEMATICA software. A significant amount of energy can be produced using renewable energy sources; however, storing massive amounts of energy poses a substantial obstacle to energy production. Economic crisis has led to rapid developments in electrochemical (EC) energy storage devices (EESDs), especially rechargeable batteries, fuel cells, and supercapacitors (SCs), which are effective for energy storage systems. Researchers have lately suggested that among the various EESDs, the SC is an effective alternate for energy storage due to the presence of the following characteristics: SCs offer high-power density (PD), improvable energy density (ED), fast charging/discharging, and good cyclic stability. This review highlighted and analyzed the concepts of supercapacitors and types of supercapacitors on the basis of electrode materials, highlighted the several feasible synthesis processes for preparation of metal oxide (MO) nanoparticles, and discussed the morphological effects of MOs on the electrochemical performance of the devices. In this review, we primarily focus on pseudo-capacitors for SCs, which mainly contain MOs and their composite materials, and also highlight their future possibilities as a useful application of MO-based materials in supercapacitors. The novelty of MO's electrode materials is primarily due to the presence of synergistic effects in the hybrid materials, rich redox activity, excellent conductivity, and chemical stability, making them excellent for SC applications. Background: There is an increase in the prevalence of obesity-related reproductive disorders, particularly anovulation and infertility so, this indicates use of insulin sensitizing agents such as metformin and use of weight reduction agents such as orlistat in order to achieve reduction of BMI, reduce androgenic effect and improve ovulation. To the best of our knowledge, no studies in this respect was performed in Zagazig University before. Our study aimed to asses the effect of orlistat versus metformin on improvement of ovulation rate, weight loss and lipid and hormonal profile. Methods: This randomized controlled trial was conducted at Zagazig University Hospital's outpatient clinic on 132 patients diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. All cases were subjected to full history taking including, general examination and laboratory investigations including FSH, LH, TSH, free T4, free testosterone and prolactin level. Results: There was no statistical significant difference between both groups as regard ovulation rate. There was significant changes between studied groups at 1st and 3rd month as regard anthropometric data except BMI was insignificant at 1st month. Also, there was significant difference between studied groups as regard to laboratory data at 1st and 3rd month except FSH at 3rd month was insignificant. Conclusions: We advise choosing metformin as a safe and effective treatment over orlistat for the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome, preferably in conjunction with weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. Background: Sepsis is a major cause of illness and mortality. Children in pediatric intensive care units (PICU) in developed nations experience a sepsis mortality rate that exceeds 50%. For efficient patient care, evaluating disease severity at admission is critical for prognosis, management, and optimal use of resources. Aim of the work: To assess the prognostic value of serum apolipoprotein A-V levels in children with sepsis admitted to the PICU. Methods: This study was conducted in the PICU in collaboration with the clinical pathology department of Zagazig University Hospital, on patients aged between 28 days and 16 years who were admitted with sepsis. We evaluated patients with complete sepsis screening and serum apolipoprotein A-V levels. Results: The mean age of the studied group was 46±55.6 months. More than half of the study group had associated comorbidities and congenital heart disease was most common, followed by renal disease, and neurologic disorders. Acinetobacter baumannii complex, coagulase-negative Staphylococcus, and Klebsiella pneumoniae were the most prevalent pathogens affecting previously healthy children. In contrast, pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus were the most prevalent pathogens in children with comorbidities. Half of patients were survivors. An apolipoprotein A-V level of 89.5 ng/ml predicted mortality due to sepsis with 73.4% sensitivity, 52.7% accuracy, and 32.1% specificity. Conclusions: Serum apolipoprotein A-V levels are sensitive in predicting sepsis-related mortality in the PICU for early therapy within the first few hours after sepsis presentation, which can prevent predictable progression and poor outcomes such as organ failure and death. This case study highlights the diagnostic challenges posed by atypical presentations of Takayasu arteritis (TA), focusing on a 42‐year‐old male presenting with pericardial effusion. Despite inconclusive initial investigations, a CT angiogram revealed large vessel vasculitis, confirming TA. Management with immunosuppressive therapy led to clinical improvement. This case emphasize the importance of recognizing unusual manifestations of TA for timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment, emphasizing the role of multidisciplinary collaboration in optimizing patient outcomes. Larval abnormalities in insects can be a sign of environmental changes and stress. Therefore, these abnormalities could serve as bioindicators of environmental shifts. This study examined larvae of Onychogomphus forcipatus albotibialis Schmidt, 1954, Sympetrum sanguineum (Müller, 1764), and Platycnemis pennipes (Pallas, 1771) species. The antennae of O. forcipatus albotibialis larvae displayed various deformities. Unexpected changes in the setae series in the mentum region of the labia of S. sanguineum, a diagnostic characteristic, were also observed. Additionally, P. pennipes had a deficiency in the labial palp setae. By understanding how different factors can affect larval development and how these changes can manifest in different parts of the body, the findings of the present study emphasize the importance of identifying and diagnosing these species through the images of the anomalies observed. Anthropogenic climate change is exerting immense pressure on water resources in Iran. This study investigates future precipitation and meteorological droughts across the country considering performances of 41 general circulation models (GCMs). The findings indicate a significant increase in long-term average annual precipitation (LAAP) across Iran with an overall north-to-south increasing gradient, particularly in areas prone to extreme events. However, focusing solely on LAAP is misleading. Projected precipitation reveals substantial inter-annual variability, impacting both the severity and duration of meteorological droughts. For instance, 100-year return period droughts are expected to intensify in severity (The Shared Socio-economic Pathway SSP1-2.6: 4–91%, SSP8-5.5: 46–204%) and duration (SSP1-2.6: 19–76%, SSP8-5.5: 40–127%) across most regions, except the Persian Gulf coastal zone, where droughts may become less severe (SSP1-2.6: 23%, SSP8-5.5: 23%) and shorter in duration (SSP1-2.6: 27%, SSP8-5.5: 10%). The relationship between the soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) and the mechanical behavior of unsaturated soil is imperative and has been well investigated. However, the correlation between elastic wave velocity along the wetting and drying paths of SWCC is largely unknown due to the nonavailability of a standard experimental setup for such a purpose. An ordinary triaxial apparatus has been modified for laboratory assessment of SWCCs under different Ko stresses, along with the measurement of shear and compression wave velocities in due course. The main aim of the study is to draw SWCC, wave velocity characteristic curve (WVCC), and a Poisson's ratio characteristic curve (PRCC) and to establish the phenomenon that these curves possess hysteresis. The Poisson's ratio was obtained indirectly by measuring Vp and Vs. Three soil samples with relative densities of 85%, 56%, and 39% were prepared and placed in a modified triaxial test apparatus under wetting and drying cycles. The test results showed that the newly developed apparatus is accurately capable of measuring SWCC. Owing to the similarity in the shape of wave velocity and Poisson's ratio, response to SWCC, WVCC, and PRCC are drawn. Nowadays, the Internet of Things (IoT) networks provide benefits to humans in numerous domains by empowering the projects of smart cities, healthcare, industrial enhancement and so forth. The IoT networks include nodes, which deliver the data to the destination. However, the network nodes' connectivity is affected by the nodes' removal caused due to the malicious attacks. The ideal plan is to construct a topology that maintains nodes' connectivity after the attacks and subsequently increases the network robustness. Therefore, for constructing a robust scale-free network, two different mechanisms are adopted in this paper. First, a Multi-Population Genetic Algorithm (MPGA) is used to deal with premature convergence in GA. Then, an entropy based mechanism is used, which replaces the worst solution of high entropy population with the best solution of low entropy population to improve the network robustness. Second, two types of Edge Swap Mechanisms (ESMs) are proposed. The Efficiency based Edge Swap Mechanism (EESM) selects the pair of edges with high efficiency. While the second ESM named as EESM-Assortativity, transforms the network topology into an onion-like structure to achieve maximum connectivity between similar degree network nodes. Further, Hill Climbing (HC) and Simulated Annealing (SA) methods are used for optimizing the network robustness. The simulation results show that the proposed MPGA Entropy has 9% better network robustness as compared to MPGA. Moreover, both the proposed ESMs effectively increase the network robustness with an average of 15% better robustness as compared to HC and SA.
