Oxytocin, PGF2α, vasopressin, estriol and estradiol were respectively measured in plasma collected three to five days after menstruation. Restricted cubic spline and multiple logistic regression models were adopted to analyze the association between hormones and primary dysmenorrhea.Results: There were 604 participants enrolled in our study including 300 patients with primary dysmenorrhea. After adjustment for the potential confounders, oxytocin levels (Q3: OR (95% CI) = 0.50 (0.27~0.95) (p=0.035); Q4: 0.34 (0.17~0.66) (p=0.001)) and PGF2α levels (Q3: 0.45 (0.24~0.87) (p=0.017); Q4: 0.43 (0.22~0.84) (p=0.013)) were respectively associated with an decreased risk of primary dysmenorrhea, but estradiol (Q2: 2.18 (1.13~4.19) (p=0.020); Q3: 2.17 (1.12~4.19) (p=0.022)) and vasopressin (Q3: 2.88 (1.48~5.63) (p=0.002); Q4: 3.20 (1.65~6.22) (p< 0.001)) with an increased risk of primary dysmenorrhea, respectively. Among patients with primary dysmenorrhea, the higher estriol level was associated with higher frequent dysmenorrhea (Q2: 3.12 (1.32~7.34) (p=0.009); Q3: 4.97 (2.08~11.85) (p< 0.001)) and always dysmenorrhea (Q2: 2.51 (1.03~6.11) (p=0.041); Q3: 3.10 (1.25~7.73) (p=0.015)). Similarly, high estriol levels were associated with the higher degree of pain significantly only when hormone levels were at a high level (Q3: 2.06 (1.03~4.18) (p=0.043)).Conclusion: Higher serum vasopressin and estradiol concentrations as well as lower oxytocin and PGF2α levels were associated with higher risk of primary dysmenorrhea. Estrogen showed a reverse U-shape association on the frequency and degree of pain among patients with primary dysmenorrhea.Keywords: primary dysmenorrhea, reproductive hormone, restricted cubic spline

Abstract The propagation methods of a non-diffractive beam (NDB) for optical sensing in scattering media have been extensively studied. However, those methods can realize the high resolution and long depth of focus in the viewpoint of microscopic imaging. In this study, we focus on macroscopic sensing in living tissues with a depth of a few tens centimeters. An experimental approach for generating adequate NDB in dense scattering media based on the linear relationship between propagation distance and transport mean free path is reported. For annular beams with different diameters, the same changes of the center intensity ratio of NDB are obtained from the experiment results. They are discussed with theoretical analysis. As a result, the maximum center intensity ratio of the adequate generated NDB can be estimated at arbitrary propagation distance in the dense scattering media.

Comparing cloud cover (CC) products from different satellites with the same ground-based CC dataset provides information on the similarities or differences of values among satellite products. For this reason, 42-month CC products from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer’s (MODIS) Collection 6.1 daily cloud cover products (MOD06_L2, MYD06_L2, MOD08_D3, and MYD08_D3) and Himawari-8 are compared with the ground-based camera datasets. The comparison shows that CC from MODIS differs from ground measurement CC by as much as 57% over Chiba, Japan, when low CC is observed by the camera. This indicates MODIS’s ability to capture high-level clouds that are not effectively seen from the ground. When the camera detects high CC, an indication of the presence of low-level clouds, CC from MODIS is relatively higher than the CC from the camera. In the case of Himawari-8 data, when the camera observes low CC, this difference is around 0.7%. This result indicates that high-level clouds are not effectively observed, but the Himawari-8 data correlates well with camera observations. When the camera observes high CC, Himawari-8-derived CC is lower by around 10% than CC from the camera. These results show the potential of continuous observations of nighttime clouds using the camera to provide a dataset that can be used for intercomparison among nighttime satellite CC products.

Non-diffracting beam (NDB) is useful in lidar transmitter because of its high propagation efficiency and high resolution. We aimed to generate NDB in random media such as haze and cloud. The laboratory experiment was conducted with diluted processed milk (fat: 1.8%, 1.1μmφ). Narrow view angle detector of 5.5mrad was used to detect the forward scattering waveform. Background: Maternal hemoglobin (Hb) is related to nutritional status, and it widely fluctuates during pregnancy. However, the relationship between Hb and blood pressure (BP) during pregnancy is unclear. This study aimed to estimate the associations between maternal Hb in various trimesters and its changes with BP during pregnancy., Methods: We conducted this study by using data from the Electronic Medical Record System (EMRS) database of Zhoushan Maternal and Child Care Hospital in Zhejiang Province, China. The pregnancy duration was divided into seven periods: before 14th, 14 to 17th, 18 to 22nd, 23 to 27th, 28 to 31st, 32 to 35th, and 36 to delivery; generalized estimating equations (GEE) and multiple linear regressions were used for exploring their associations., Results: 8168 pregnant women in the first trimester were included in this study. Hb level decreased significantly from the first to late-second trimester and then increased but did not return to the level of the first trimester. After adjustment for the potential confounders, compared with women with Hb 110 ~ 119 g/L, those with Hb < 110 g/L had low systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP) in the second and third trimesters and those with Hb ≥ 120 g/L had high SBP and DBP in various trimesters. Furthermore, the dose-response effect was observed between them; except that those with Hb < 100 g/L had high SBP in T1 (β = 2.85, P = 0.012). Hb concentration changes during pregnancy were also positively associated with BP level. Furthermore, Hb had a higher effect on DBP than SBP. It is worth noting that the Hb concentration in > = 140 g/L groups had significantly higher SBP and DBP than the other groups. A significant nonlinear relationship was found between hemoglobin changes with both SBP and DBP in different gestational weeks (P non-linear < 0.05)., Conclusions: This study found that maternal Hb was positively associated with BP during pregnancy and maternal Hb > 120 g/L during pregnancy and increased maternal Hb from the first to third trimesters should especially be given more attention., Competing Interests: Declarations. Backgrounds: Many pregnant women suffer from more than one pregnancy complication. However, whether those women experienced a higher risk of adverse birth outcomes is unclear. This study aims to assess the association between the comorbidity of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and hypertension disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and adverse birth outcomes., Methods: The data was from the Zhoushan Maternal and Child Health Hospital electronic medical recorder system (EMRS) between 2015 and 2022. Multivariate linear regression model was used to analyze the association of GDM, HDP, and comorbidity with birth weight and gestational age, respectively. Multiple logistic regression model was used to analyze the association of GDM, HDP, and comorbidity with adverse birth outcomes., Results: 13645 pregnant women were included. GDM+HDP was significantly associated with a higher risk of composite adverse neonatal outcomes (OR=1.82, 95%CI: 1.02-3.04), including preterm birth, placenta previa, and/or neonatal jaundice, a higher risk of small for gestational age (SGA) (OR=2.2, 95% CI: 1.24 3.92) and large for gestational age (LGA) (OR=2.33, 95% CI: 1.64 3.31) compared with the normal group. Further analysis showed that HDP diagnosed in the 21-27 th week comorbid with GDM had the lowest gestational age at delivery (β= -1.57, P =0.0002) and birth weight (β= -189.57, P =0.0138). Objective: Conflicting associations have been noted between thyroid function and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), with indications that pre-pregnancy BMI might influence these relationships. This study aims to examine the effect of thyroid hormone indices and their mediation role on the risk of GDM., Methods: Pregnant women in our study were recruited from the Zhoushan Pregnant Women Cohort, Zhejiang Province, China. Participants who had their first prenatal follow-up and measured thyroid biomarkers in the first trimester, and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) records in the second trimester were eligible for inclusion in this study. The data were extracted from the Electronic Medical Record System database, at Zhoushan Maternal and Child Care Hospital. Maternal information about sociodemographic and health-related characteristics was extracted from the dataset. A unique personal identification number was provided to link both datasets. Multivariate logistic regression models were applied to investigate the correlations between thyroid hormone indices with GDM. The interaction effects of first-trimester thyroid hormone indices with pre-pregnancy BMI on GDM risk using a generalized linear regression model. Furthermore, the mediation analysis was used to explore the potential mediating effects of thyroid hormone indices on the relationship between pre-pregnancy BMI and GDM., Results: Overall, 5895 pregnant women were included in this study. The first-trimester FT4, thyroid feedback quantile-based index (TFQI), thyrotropin index (TSHI) and thyrotroph thyroxine resistance index (TT4RI) levels were negatively associated with fasting blood glucose (FBG) and postprandial blood glucose (PBG2H) in the second trimester (all P<0.05); FT3 and the FT3-to-FT4 ratio levels were positively associated with PBG1H and PBG2H in the second trimester (all P<0.05). Moreover, there were significant correlations between the highest quartile FT4, FT3, FT3-to-FT4 ratio, TSHI, and TFQI with GDM (all P < 0.05). The mediating effect of thyroid hormone parameters was 24.9% on the association between pre-pregnancy BMI and GDM., Conclusions: In conclusion, the low FT4, high FT3-to-FT4 ratio, and low TFQI in the first trimester significantly increase the risk of GDM and should be given more attention. Background: Numerous studies have examined whether vitamin D is associated with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Nevertheless, it is still challenging to determine the causality, due to a number of shortcomings in observational research and randomized controlled trials., Objective: Mendelian randomization (MR) with two samples was conducted to investigate the potential causative association between 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), vitamin D binding protein (VDBP) and GDM risk., Methods: Publicly accessible summary data from independent cohorts were used for two-sample MR. For 25(OH)D, we obtained data from UK Biobank, IEU and EBI, then performed a meta-analysis to enhance the statistical power (via METAL); for VDBP, data were obtained from the INTERVAL study; for GDM, data were obtained from FinnGen. The inverse variance weighted (IVW) approach was performed as the main analysis, together with several sensitivity analyses, such as MR-Egger, maximum likelihood, weighted median, and weighted mode., Results: The IVW results revealed a weak negative causal connection between 25(OH)D and GDM risk [OR (95% CI) = 0.71 (0.50, 0.99), p = 0.046]. However, the causal association was unstable according to sensitivity analyses, and Cochran's Q test revealed significant heterogeneity. After removing BMI-related IVs, the causal association between 25(OH)D and GDM disappeared [OR (95% CI) = 0.76 (0.55, 1.06), p = 0.101]. In addition, our study found no proof to support the assumption that VDBP level was related to GDM risk causally [OR (95% CI) = 0.98 (0.93, 1.03), p = 0.408]., Conclusions: According to this study, a weak negative causal association between 25(OH)D and GDM risk was found, while we had little proof to support the link between VDBP and GDM. To further explore whether total or free 25(OH)D levels and GDM are causally related, GWAS data with an emphasis on women of reproductive age and other ethnic groups are required.

Objective: Few comparisons have been implemented between different prenatal care utilization indices and their effects on adverse outcomes. This study investigated the appropriateness of Chinese antenatal care (ANC) regulations and compared Chinese and American adequacy of prenatal care utilization (APNCU) scores., Methods: From 2010 to 2022, the medical records of 60,114 pregnant women were collected from the electronic medical record system (EMRS) in Zhoushan, China. ANC utilization was measured using the APNCU score and five times antenatal care (ANC5). Birth weight outcomes, including small for gestational age (SGA) and large for gestational age (LGA), low birth weight (LBW), macrosomia, birth weight, and preterm birth (PTB), were utilized as outcomes. Multinomial, linear, and logistic regression were used to analyze the association of ANC5 and APNCU with outcomes, respectively. Crossover analysis was implemented to compare the interaction between ANC5 and APNCU on the outcomes., Results: Women who received inadequate prenatal care had increased odds for PTB (ANC5: odds ratio (OR) = 1.12, 95% confidence interval (95%CI) = 1.03-1.21; APNCU: OR = 1.18, 95%CI: 1.07-1.29), delivering SGA infants (ANC5: OR = 1.13, 95%CI = 1.07-1.21; APNCU: OR = 1.11, 95%CI = 1.03-1.20). Crossover analysis revealed that inadequate prenatal care in APNCU only was significantly associated with an increased risk of PTB (OR = 1.48, 95%CI: 1.26-1.73)., Conclusion: Women with inadequate prenatal care in ANC5 or APNCU were more likely to suffer from adverse birth outcomes, including PTB, birth weight loss, SGA, and LBW. It indicated that adequate prenatal care is necessary for pregnant women. However, there were interactions between ANC5 and APNCU on PTB, with inadequate prenatal care use by APNCU showing the highest risk of PTB. This study aimed to evaluate the association between maternal liver biomarkers in early pregnancy and the risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), as well as to evaluate interaction between liver enzymes and BMI on the development of HDP. Pregnant women in our study were recruited from the Zhoushan Pregnant Women Cohort. Participants who had their first prenatal follow-up and the blood pressure follow-up records, and measured liver biomarkers in the first trimester were eligible for inclusion in the study. A total of 10,610 pregnant women were included in the analysis, and 305 (2.87%) developed the HDP. There were positive associations between AST, GGT, ALP, HSI and SBP, as well as between ALT, GGT, ALP, HSI and DBP. In addition, AST/ALT level was negatively associated with DBP. The highest quartile of GGT, ALP, AST/ALT and HSI were significantly associated with 1.71-fold (95% Cl: 1.23-2.41), 1.53-fold (95% Cl: 1.10-2.14), 0.62-fold (95% Cl: 0.43-0.90) and 1.67-fold (95% Cl: 1.05-2.67) increased risk of HDP, respectively. There was no significant association between ALT, AST and HDP. These associations remained consistent in pregnant women with liver enzymes within the clinical reference range. Besides, we found an interaction between GGT and BMI (P interaction  = 0.013) in the development of HDP. In summary, the level of GGT, ALP, AST/ALT and HSI were associated with the subsequent risk of HDP, even within the clinical reference range. And there was an interaction between liver biomarkers and BMI in the development of HDP. Our study showed the level of GGT, ALP, AST/ALT and HSI were associated with the subsequent risk of HDP. Background: Associations of liver function with the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) remain unclear. This study aimed to examine the relationship and the potential causality between maternal liver biomarkers and the risk of subsequent GDM, as well as to evaluate the interaction between liver biomarkers and lipids on GDM risk., Methods: In an ongoing Zhoushan Pregnant Women Cohort, pregnant women who finished the first prenatal follow-up record, underwent liver function tests in early pregnancy, and completed the GDM screening were included in this study. Logistic regression models were used to investigate the association, and the inverse-variance weighted method supplemented with other methods of two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was applied to deduce the causality., Results: Among 9,148 pregnant women, 1,668 (18.2%) developed GDM. In general, the highest quartile of liver function index (LFI), including ALT, AST, GGT, ALP, and hepatic steatosis index, was significantly associated with an increased risk of GDM (OR ranging from 1.29 to 3.15), especially an elevated risk of abnormal postprandial blood glucose level. Moreover, the causal link between ALT and GDM was confirmed by the MR analysis (OR=1.28, 95%CI:1.05-1.54). A significant interaction between AST/ALT and TG on GDM risk was observed ( P interaction = 0.026)., Conclusion: Elevated levels of LFI in early pregnancy were remarkably associated with an increased risk of GDM in our prospective cohort. As acute gastrointestinal (AGI) disease patients only sometimes seek medical care or submit stool samples for testing, and laboratories cannot detect or identify the pathogen, most cases of foodborne gastroenteritis still need to be identified through public health monitoring. We conducted a population survey and sentinel hospital surveillance to determine the burden of foodborne gastroenteritis caused by non-typhoidal Salmonella enterica (NTS) and Vibrio parahaemolyticus infection, from July 2018 to June 2019 in Zhejiang province, China, and a model for calculating disease burden established. Using the burden of illness pyramid model, we estimated that there were 140.3 cases of NTS infection and 136.2 cases of V. parahaemolyticus infection. We estimated annual incidence per 100,000 population in Zhejiang province as 236 (95% confidence interval [CI] 208-267) and 206 (95% CI 155-232) cases for foodborne NTS and V. parahaemolyticus gastroenteritis, respectively. The results show that AGI caused by these two pathogens constitutes a substantial burden in the Zhejiang population. The health burden of AGI estimations caused by NTS and V. parahaemolyticus in this study can serve as a strategic framework to direct policy and intervention., (© 2023 The Authors. Problem: Systemic chronic inflammation (SCI) is a prevalent characteristic observed in various diseases originating from different tissues, while the association of SCI with preterm birth (PTB) remains uncertain. This study aimed to analyze the association between a nonspecific biomarker of SCI and PTB, while also exploring the trajectories of SCI in pregnant women at risk of PTB., Method of Study: The study used data from the Electronic Medical Record System (EMRS) of a hospital in Zhejiang, China and 9226 pregnant women were included. The duration of pregnancy was categorized into four distinct periods: the first, early-second, late-second, and third trimester. Latent class trajectory modeling (LCTM) was used to identify the trajectories of SCI during pregnancy., Results: The elevated WBC counts in the late-second (OR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.06-1.23) and third (OR = 1.16, 95% CI: 1.09-1.24) trimester were both positively associated with an evaluated risk of PTB. Moreover, significant dose-response relationships were observed. There were three distinct SCI trajectories found: progressing SCI (2.89%), high SCI (7.13%), and low SCI (89.98%). Pregnant women with progressive SCI had the highest risk of PTB (OR = 3.03, 95% CI: 1.47-6.25)., Conclusions: In conclusion, elevated SCI after 23 weeks was a risk factor for PTB in healthy women, even if the SCI indicator was within normal range. Background: Breastfeeding appears to reduce the risk of childhood overweight/obesity. However, it remains unclear whether this protective effect persists among high-risk populations. This study aims to investigate the association of breastfeeding with the risk of overweight/obesity in early childhood and whether this association is altered by gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) or size at birth. Methods: Feeding practices during the first 12 months of age and weight and length at 12-36 months of age were collected. Full breastfeeding includes exclusive and predominant breastfeeding. Children with body mass index (BMI) values greater than 1 standard deviation from the mean of sex- and age-specific BMI were classified as overweight/obese. Multiple generalized estimating equations models were applied to analyze the associations of full breastfeeding duration with overweight/obesity risk. Results: Among all participants ( n = 9329), infants with a longer full-breastfeeding duration had a reduced risk of overweight/obesity in early childhood compared with those breastfed for less than one month. Infants exposed to GDM and those born large for gestational age (LGA) had a higher risk of overweight/obesity in early childhood. Among infants of mothers with GDM ( n = 1748), infants with full breastfeeding for greater than 6 months (aOR: 0.58; 95% CI: 0.44, 0.78) showed a decreased risk of overweight/obesity in early childhood compared with those breastfed for less than one month. Among LGA infants ( n = 1279), infants with full breastfeeding for 3-5 months (aOR: 0.66; 95% CI: 0.57, 0.76) and greater than 6 months (aOR: 0.70; 95% CI: 0.56, 0.88) showed a decreased risk of overweight/obesity in early childhood. Similar results were observed among LGA infants of mothers with GDM. Conclusions: Initiating and prolonging breastfeeding would reduce the risk of overweight/obesity in early childhood, and LGA infants and infants born to mothers with GDM would experience greater benefits.

Low vitamin D (VitD) level is a risk factor for preterm birth (PTB), but the results of previous studies remained inconsistent, which may be influenced by the confounding factors and different types of PTB. We performed Mendelian randomization (MR) to uncover the association of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) with PTB, premature rupture of membranes (PROM), and preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM). This study was conducted in Zhoushan Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Zhejiang, from August 2011 to March 2022. Plasma 25(OH)D levels in three trimesters of pregnancy were measured. We conducted an MR analysis utilizing a genetic risk score (GRS) approach, which was based on VitD-associated single-nucleotide polymorphisms. The prospective cohort study included 3923 pregnant women. The prevalence of PTB, PROM, and PPROM were 6.09%, 13.18%, and 1.33%, respectively. Compared to those without vitamin D deficiency (VDD), only vaginally delivering pregnant women with VDD had a 2.69 (1.08-6.68) times risk of PTB. However, MR analysis did not support the association. One-unit higher GRS was not associated with an increased risk of PTB, regardless of the trimesters (OR [95% CI]: 1.01 [0.93-1.10], 1.06 [0.96-1.18], and 0.95 [0.82-1.10], respectively). When further taking PROM and PPROM as the outcomes, the MR analysis also showed no consistent evidence of a causal effect of VitD levels on the risk of them. Our MR analyses did not support a causal effect of 25(OH)D concentrations in the three trimesters on PTB, PROM, and PPROM., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest.

The aim of this study was to elucidate the association between vitamin D (VD) and the risk for preterm birth (PTB) and prelabor rupture of membranes (PROM). This study included two parts, with a cohort study and a case-control study. Plasma 25-hydroxyvitamin vitamin D [25(OH)D] levels in three trimesters in the cohort study and maternal 25(OH)D before delivery in the case-control study were measured. Quantitative real-time PCR was used to detect relative mRNA expression levels of the inflammatory factors associated with pyroptosis in peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC), placenta and fetal membranes. Multinomial logistic regression and the Wilcoxon test were applied to analyze the associations. In the cohort study, 6381 pregnant women were included. We found that VD deficiency in T3 (PTB without PROM: OR = 1.90, 95% CI: 1.02-3.55, Term PROM (TPROM): OR = 0.76, 95% CI: 0.59-0.98) and less change of 25(OH)D between T1 and T3 (PTB without PROM: OR = 2.32, 95% CI: 1.07-5.06, TPROM: OR = 0.73, 95% CI: 0.56-0.96) were associated with the increased risk of PTB without PROM, while there was a decreased risk of TPROM. Neither VD, nor the increase of VD during pregnancy was associated with the premature rupture of membranes preterm delivery (PPROM). In the case-control study, there were no associations between VD during delivery and PTB or PROM (TPROM: OR = 1.33, 95% CI: 0.52-3.44); PTB without PROM: OR = 1.66, 95% CI: 0.33-8.19; PPROM: OR = 1.19, 95% CI: 0.42-3.40). The mRNA expression of NLRP1 (NOD-like receptor thermal protein domain associated protein 1) ( p = 0.0165) in PBMC in the TPROM group was higher than that in the term group, and IL-18 ( p = 0.0064) was lower than that in the term group. Plasma 25(OH)D in T3 and the increase of 25(OH)D between T1 and T3 were associated with a lower risk for PTB without PROM but a higher risk for TPROM. Further studies are warranted to clarify the association between VD and PTB and PROM and its mechanism.

Background: Frequent heavy air pollution occurred during the winter heating season of northern China. Particulate air pollution is a serious concern in Urumqi during heating season. Exposure to air pollution is known to increase adverse health outcomes, particularly oxidative damage. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of air pollution on oxidative damage around pregnant women and newborns in Urumqi., Methods: This prospective observational study enrolled pregnant women in the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University between January 2019 and October 2019. Pregnant women and newborns were allocated into a heating season group (January - end of April 2019, October 2019) or non-heating season group (June 2019 - end of September) according to the specific delivery time. Venous blood, urine from the women and cord blood from their newborns were collected to measure the levels of PAHs and 8-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), a measure of oxidative stress., Results: A total of 200 pregnant women and newborns were enrolled, with 100 pregnant women and newborns in the heating season group. Compared to the non-heating season group, the total contents of 8-OHdG in maternal urine, PAHs and 8-OHdG in maternal plasma and neonatal cord blood were higher in the heating season group (all P < 0.001). The average values for AQI, PM 2.5 , PM 10 , SO 2 , NO 2 , and CO were higher in the heating season group (all P < 0.001). Maternal and neonatal PAHs were correlated with 8-OHdG measurements in maternal urine (r = 0.288, P < 0.001 and r = 0.336, P < 0.001) and neonatal umbilical cord blood (r = 0.296, P < 0.001 and r = 0.252, P < 0.001). There was also a positive relationship between PAHs, 8-OHdG levels in pregnant women and their newborns and proximate air pollutant concentrations (all P < 0.05). Based on the results of multiple linear regression analysis, it was found that air pollutants(PM 10 , 0 3 ) had a great influence on the level of 8-OHdG in neonatal cord blood, and the contribution rate was high(R 2  = 0.320). Based on the epidemiological questionnaire, a multiple linear regression model was established(R 2  = 0.496). We found that 8-OHdG levels in neonatal umbilical cord blood were mainly affected by two aspects: (1) Biological samples collected during heating had higher levels of 8-OHdG in neonatal umbilical cord blood. (2) Study may suggest that in neonates, males are more sensitive to oxidative damage., Conclusion: Particulate air pollution may increase PAHs exposure and oxidative DNA damage in pregnant women and newborns., (© 2023. Background: This study aimed to identify the epidemiology, seasonality, aetiology and clinical characteristics of sporadic foodborne diseases in Zhejiang province during 2016-2020., Methods: Descriptive statistical methods were used to analyze the data from surveillance network established by the Zhejiang Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention. There were 31 designated hospitals in all 11 cities which were selected using probability proportionate to size sampling method., Results: During the study period, the surveillance system received 75,124 cases with 4826 (6.42%) hospitalizations from 31 hospitals. The most common cause was Norovirus, 6120 cases (42.56%), followed by Salmonella, 3351 cases (23.30%). A significant seasonal trend was observed for the V. parahaemolyticus, with the highest rates over the summer period, peaking in August, 1171 cases (38.75%), a similar trend was also observed with Salmonella and Diarrheagenic E. coli. Norovirus infections showed the highest rate in November (904, 14.77%) and March (660,10.78%), the lowest in August, 215 cases (3.51%). Patients between 19 ~ 40 years were more likely to infected by Norovirus, V. parahaemolyticus and Diarrheagenic E. coli, patients below 1 year were the highest among patients with Salmonella infection, 881 cases (26.3%). The Norovirus, V. parahaemolyticus and Diarrheagenic E. coli infection with the highest positive detection rates among the workers were observed. The largest number cases of food categories were from aquatic product infection. The private home was the most common exposure setting., Conclusion: Our study highlighted the necessity for conducting an active, comprehensive surveillance for pathogens in all age groups, to monitor the changing dynamics in the epidemiology and aetiology of foodborne diseases to guide policies that would reduce related illnesses., (© 2022. A number of SARS-CoV-2 variants that have evolved to have significant immune escape have emerged worldwide since the COVID-19 outbreak. The efficacy of prime vaccination is waning with the evolution of SARS-CoV-2, and the necessity of booster doses is more and more prominent. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the neutralization activity against the wild type and variants (Beta, Delta, and Omicron) in different prime-boost vaccination regimens. Electronic databases including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, medRxiv, Wanfang and CNKI were used to retrieve original studies. A total of 16 studies, 9 prime-boost vaccination regimes, and 3134 subjects were included in the meta-analysis and random effect models were used to estimate pooled neutralization titers. The neutralization activity against SARS-CoV-2 showed a significant decline with the evolution of the virus, especially in the populations primed with inactivated vaccines. For homologous immunization, only the populations boosted with mRNA vaccines consistently had a significant rise in neutralization titers (Beta: MD = 0.97; Delta: MD = 1.33; Omicron: MD = 0.74). While the heterologous immunization was more effective, the increment of neutralization titers against wild type, Beta, Delta and Omicron was 1.65 (95% CI: 1.32-1.96), 1.03 (95% CI: 0.53-1.54), 1.46 (95% CI: 1.07-1.85) and 1.15 (95% CI: 0.68-1.61), respectively. With the evolution of SARS-CoV-2, the effectiveness of prime immunization is waning. Although the administration of the booster dose could ameliorate the neutralization titers, homologous immunization regimens were gradually losing their effectiveness. Therefore, a heterologous booster dose is required, especially in populations primed with inactivated vaccines.

Cervical cancer patients in early-stage cervical cancer (ECC) were divided into pelvic lymph node (PLN) metastasis and non-PLN metastasis group. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping for the VEGF gene was conducted and plasma VEGF levels were measured. Multivariate analysis was performed to assess the correlation between SNPs of the VEGF gene and PLN metastasis. We found that SNP of the VEGF rs2010963 was independently associated with PLN metastasis. GG and CG genotype had increased susceptibility to PLN metastasis compared with CC genotype, and moreover, OR was higher in GG genotype than in CG genotype. Plasma VEGF levels were lowest in CC genotype, intermediate in GC genotype and highest in GG genotype. In summary, the SNP of the VEGF rs2010963 affected susceptibility to PLN metastasis in patients with ECC, and GG and CG genotype had increased susceptibility compared with CC genotype. The potential mechanism was associated with elevated plasma VEGF levels.Impact Statement What is already known on this subject? The positive expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is correlated with higher risk of lymph node metastasis among cervical cancer patients, and VEGF levels of patients with pelvic lymph node (PLN) metastasis are significantly higher than those without PLN metastasis. Additionally, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the VEGF gene have been indicated to be correlated with individual susceptibility to tumours and expression and protein production of VEGF. What do the results of this study add? The SNP of the VEGF rs2010963 was independently associated with PLN metastasis in patients with early-stage cervical cancer (ECC). The GG and CG genotype of the VEGF rs2010963 had increased susceptibility to PLN metastasis compared with CC genotype. Plasma VEGF levels were lowest in the CC genotype, intermediate in the GC genotype and highest in the GG genotype. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? The SNP of the VEGF rs2010963 affected susceptibility to PLN metastasis in patients with ECC, and the potential mechanism was associated with elevated plasma VEGF levels.

The association between vitamin D and hemoglobin has been suggested. Vitamin D can affect erythropoiesis by the induction of erythroid progenitor cell proliferation and enhance iron absorption by regulating the iron-hepcidin-ferroportin axis in monocytes. However, this relationship in pregnant women is scarce. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between plasma vitamin D levels with hemoglobin concentration in pregnant women considering each trimester and iron supplementation. The data were obtained from Zhoushan Pregnant Women Cohort, collected from 2011 to 2018. Plasma 25(OH)D was measured in each trimester using liquid chromatography−tandem mass spectrometry. Generalized estimating equations and multiple linear regressions were performed. Finally, 2962 pregnant women and 4419 observations in the first trimester were included in this study. Plasma 25(OH)D in first trimester (T1) (β = 0.06, p = 0.0177), second trimester (T2) (β = 0.15, p < 0.0001), and third trimester (T3) (β = 0.12, p = 0.0006) were positively associated with Hb. Association between plasma 25(OH)D levels in T1 and Hb concentration was positively associated with gestational age (β = 0.005, p = 0.0421). Pregnant women with VD deficiency in T1 (OR = 1.42, 95% CI: 1.07−1.88) or T2 (OR = 1.94, 95% CI: 1.30−2.89) presented an increased risk of anemia, compared with women without VD deficiency. Moreover, the significant relationship between VD and Hb was only observed among women with iron supplementation during pregnancy. Plasma 25(OH)D levels in each trimester were positively associated with Hb concentration. Iron supplementation might be an important factor affecting the relationship between VD and Hb.

Objective: We aimed to explore the effect of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the genes of the vitamin D (VitD) metabolic pathway and its interaction with VitD level during pregnancy on the development of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP). Methods: The study was conducted in the Zhoushan Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital, China, from August 2011 to May 2018. The SNPs in VitD metabolic pathway-related genes were genotyped. Plasma 25-hydroxyvitamin vitamin D (25(OH)D) levels was measured at first (T1), second (T2), and third (T3) trimesters. The information of systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and the diagnosis of HDP were extracted from the electronic medical record system. Multivariable linear and logistic regression models and crossover analysis were applied. Results: The prospective cohort study included 3699 pregnant women, of which 105 (2.85%) were diagnosed with HDP. After adjusting for potential confounders, VitD deficiency at T2, as well as the change of 25(OH)D level between T1 and T2, were negatively associated with DBP at T2 and T3, but not HDP. Polymorphisms in CYP24A1 , GC , and LRP2 genes were associated with blood pressure and HDP. In addition, VitD interacted with CYP24A1 , GC , and VDR genes' polymorphisms on blood pressure. Furthermore, participants with polymorphisms in CYP24A1 -rs2248137, LRP2 -rs2389557, and LRP2 -rs4667591 and who had VitD deficiency at T2 showed an increased risk of HDP. Conclusions: The individual and interactive association between VitD deficiency during pregnancy and SNPs in the genes of the VitD metabolic pathway on blood pressure and HDP were identified.

A prime-boost strategy of COVID-19 vaccines brings hope to limit the spread of SARS-CoV-2, while the immunogenicity of the vaccines is waning over time. Whether a booster dose of vaccine is needed has become a widely controversial issue. However, no published meta-analysis has focused on the issue. Therefore, this study assessed the immunogenicity and safety of the different combinations of prime-boost vaccinations. Electronic databases including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, medRxiv, Wanfang and CNKI were used to retrieve the original studies. A total of 28 studies, 9 combinations of prime-boost vaccinations and 5870 subjects were included in the meta-analysis, and random effect models were used to estimate pooled immunogenicity and safety. The immunity against COVID-19 after the prime vaccination waned over time, especially in the populations primed with inactivated vaccines, in which the seropositive rate of antibodies was only 28% (95% CI: 17-40%). Booster vaccination could significantly increase the antibody responses, and heterologous immunization was more effective than homologous immunization (neutralization titers: 1.65 vs. 1.27; anti-RBD IgG: 1.85 vs. 1.15); in particular, the combination of inactivated-mRNA vaccines had the highest antibody responses (neutralization titers: MRAW = 3.64, 95% CI: 3.54-3.74; anti-RBD IgG: 3.73, 95% CI: 3.59-3.87). Moreover, compared with the initial two doses of vaccines, a booster dose did not induce additional or severe adverse events. The administration of the booster dose effectively recalled specific immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 and increased antibody levels, especially in heterologous immunization. Considering the long-term immunogenicity and vaccine equity, we suggest that now, only individuals primed with inactivated vaccines require a booster dose.
