We address the pricing of American straddle options. We use a technique due to Kim (1990) to derive an expression involving integrals for the price of such an option close to expiry. We then evaluate this expression on the dual optimal exercise boundaries to obtain a set of integral equations for the location of these exercise boundaries, and solve these equations close to expiry.

We consider perpetual Bermudan options, which have no expiration and can be exercised everyTtime units. We use the Green's function approach to write down an integral equation for the value of a perpetual Bermudan call option on an expiration date; this integral equation leads to a Wiener–Hopf problem. We discretize the integral in the integral equation to convert the problem to a linear algebra problem, which is straightforward to solve, and this enables us to find the location of the free boundary and the value of the perpetual Bermudan call. An American put option is a derivative financial instrument that gives its holder the right but not the obligation to sell an underlying security at a pre-determined price. American options may be exercised at any time prior to expiry at the discretion of the holder, and the decision as to whether or not to exercise leads to a free boundary problem. In this paper, we examine the behavior of the free boundary close to expiry. Working directly with the underlying PDE, by using asymptotic expansions, we are able to deduce this behavior of the boundary in this limit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
