Since identifying these entities in the 1970s and 80s, major breakthroughs in the understanding of the viral mechanisms have occurred. Viruses have evolved mechanisms to hijack signaling pathways of infected cells to evade antiviral immune responses by the host. Over time, the clinical presentations and management of these diseases have evolved along with our in-depth understanding of the various pathophysiological mechanisms causing these conditions. Similarly, both at the cellular and systemic levels, the host has evolved mechanisms to counter viral subversion strategies for mutual survival. Since the start of the current COVID-19 pandemic, numerous cases of acute kidney injury have been reported in the literature with various possible pathophysiological mechanisms. In this review, we summarize lessons learned from prior viral pandemics related to viral mechanisms utilized in the pathogenesis of numerous renal manifestations to attempt to utilize this knowledge in predicting post-COVID-19 kidney disease.Keywords: viral nephropathy, COVID-19, viral immunogenicity, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, SARS-CoV-2

Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) are increasingly acknowledged for their ability to promote mental well-being and address diverse mental health concerns. Mental health nurses, as frontline clinicians, are best positioned to incorporate MBIs into comprehensive, evidence-based treatment. A comprehensive assessment of MBI components, efficacy, and implementation challenges in mental health nursing is required. The present research highlights the need for a more systematic approach to incorporating MBIs into clinical practice, ensuring accessibility and cultural sensitivity. This review integrates current evidence about the incorporation of Mindfulness-Based Interventions into mental health nursing practice. This study investigates the fundamental elements of MBIs (mindfulness meditation, mindful movement, psychoeducation, and daily life integration), evaluates the evidence substantiating their efficacy in alleviating symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress, and delineates the responsibilities of mental health nurses in executing these interventions. The study also discusses obstacles to implementation, such as the need for sufficient nursing training, cultural factors, and organizational difficulties within healthcare environments. Meta-analyses and systematic reviews consistently reveal modest to substantial effect sizes for mindfulness-based interventions in alleviating symptoms and enhancing well-being. Mental health nurses can incorporate mindfulness-based interventions through group sessions, individual coaching, and the integration of mindfulness techniques into standard assessments and interactions. Successful implementation necessitates overcoming obstacles, including provision of sufficient training for nurses, ensuring cultural sensitivity and accessibility of interventions. Incorporating MBIs into mental health nursing presents a promising opportunity to improve patient care and foster holistic well-being. Understanding the biochemical mechanisms involved enhances the rationale for their use and informs future research. Successful integration necessitates the resolution of training requirements, cultural factors, and organizational obstacles via collaborative initiatives and continuous assessment. Further study is required to examine long-term results, further elucidate the biochemical pathways, and enhance MBI implementation tactics across various mental health environments. Hepatitis B-associated glomerulonephritis (GN) has been recognized for decades. However, only a few cases of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) in a setting of rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN) associated with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) have been described. Herein, we report the case of a 42-year-old Asian female with a past medical history significant for chronic HBV on entecavir, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and newly diagnosed breast cancer, who underwent elective bilateral mastectomy and breast augmentation. Post-operatively, she developed non-oliguric acute kidney injury and proteinuria. Renal biopsy revealed active focal crescentic and necrotizing GN with IgA and C3 deposits. Systemic autoimmune-associated and other infection-related GN were ruled out.
