1. Depositional palaeoenvironments in atide-influenced delta plain with amphibian and Cycadophyta remains – the Triassic Zarzaitine Formation (Algerian eastern Sahara)

Abstract: In the region of In Amenas (south-eastern Algeria) Triassic deposits crop out, on top of Palaeozoic rocks under an angular unconformity. Astudy of their sedimentological and palaeoenvironmental characteristics has revealed asandy-clay unit with vertebrate remains, tree trunks and ichnofossils of Middle-Late Triassic age. This so-called Zarzaitine Formation, which reflects deposition in adeltaic environment, shows three facies associations. The first defines an upper and shallow intertidal mixed flat zone with in-situ temnospondyl capitosauroid remains, associated with Skolithos ichnofacies, while the second one defines alower intertidal delta plain zone, composed of sandstone, distributary channels and muddy interdistributary areas,which record daily tidal rhythmites and monthly tidal bundles. The third, and last, facies association represents an upper delta plain of the supratidal zone, characterised by coarse sandstone deposits of braided rivers and aCycadophyta palaeosol. Previous work, which led to considering these Triassic deposits as aseries composed of four formations, deposited in abraided rivers environment, whose lower floodplains constituted ecological niche for atemnospondyl fauna, under hot and dry climatic conditions and plants belonging to this same formation, for mushrooms and algae, will also be considered.

2. Thermal performance and optimum concentration of different nanofluids in immersion cooling in data center servers

Abstract: The application of nanofluids in heat transfer systems is widely recognized for enhancing thermal efficiency compared to conventional fluids, representing a pivotal advancement in energy-saving strategies across a range of commercial applications. However, the selection of nanofluid concentration often lacks a systematic approach, with decisions made independently of specific application requirements, type of nanofluid, cost considerations, and economic factors such as energy cost and system lifetime. This article explores the optimization of nanoparticle concentrations in the immersion cooling system of a data center server, utilizing three distinct nanofluids (Al₂O₃-water, TiO₂-water, and CuO-water). The Iceotope immersion cooling designs were examined across various flow conditions. The investigation involved calculating heat transfer rates and pressure drops through the server by simulating a model using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Element (FE), and COMSOL Multiphysics® Modeling software for varying volume fractions of nanoparticles. The study proposes a novel methodology to assess potential economic trade-offs associated with nanofluid utilization in immersed liquid-cooled data centers. This approach aims to identify the lowest overall cost within the data center and the maximum viable volume fraction of a nanofluid. Results indicate that Al2O3-water nanofluid exhibits superior thermal efficiency due to its higher thermal conductivity, while TiO₂-water and CuO-water are evaluated for comparative performance. However, it also presents challenges, such as higher viscosity leading to increased pressure drop and pumping costs. Economic considerations reveal that, despite its thermal advantages, the most cost-effective fluid is the conventional fluid (pure water). The server incurs a cost of $706.15. These findings underscore the importance of considering both thermal performance and economic factors when determining the optimal nanofluid concentration for practical application.

Abstract: Four metal compounds mixed ligand of azo dye ligand (L) and metformin.(Met) were produced at aquatic ethanol for (1:1:1) (M:L:Met). The prepared compounds were identified by utilizing atomic absorption flame, FT.IR and UV–Vis spectrum manners as well as conductivity mensuration. These compounds was assayed of the gained datum the octahedral geometry was proposed into whole prepared complexes.Also in this research was studied represented examining the antibacterial and antifungal impact of the azo dye ligand (L), metformin.(Met) and (Co,Ni, Cu and Cd complexes) on four types of pathogenic, clinically isolated bacteria that are resistant to antibiotic, like Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, and fungi Candida albicans from human in Iraq. The results of the sensitivity test showed the effectiveness of these compounds at a very low condensation of (10−3) in inhibiting the isolated bacteria. On the other hand, cytotoxic effects of the ligand, Met and mix ligand complexes showed anticancer activity on HepG2 cells in a serial condensation 15.6, 31, 62, 125, 250, 500 μg/ml. As the effectiveness of the compounds increases with increasing their condensation, the most effective toxicant on hepatic cancer cells is Met and cd complex and with a rate of 68.5 and 68.3 % respectively.

Abstract: Abstract Objectives the primary aim of this study was to examine the prevalence and risk factors of low bone mineral density in Bahrain. Methods this was a retrospective study, which targeted a cohort of 4822 Bahraini subjects (mean age 59.36 years: 93% females). Demographic data and results of lumbar and femur DEXA scan for the targeted sample, over the period 2016–2018, were retrieved from four hospitals. Results The prevalence of low BMD was 62.3% (46.4% had osteopenia and 15.9% had osteoporosis). The highest rate of osteopenia was detected at the age group younger than 44 years. In clinical genetics, it specifically refers to the marriage between individuals who are second cousins or closer. The aim of the study is to assess perceptions and their predictors among the Palestinian population towards consanguinity.Methods: A survey-based cross-sectional study was conducted. The sample was collected using convenience and snowball sampling methods, yielding a sample of 1008 participants. The perceptions towards consanguinity and its predictors were assessed using Chi-square test.Results: The prevalence of consanguinity among married participants was 18.7% (N = 81/432), while it was 28.8% among their parents. Consanguinity rate was significantly low among the young age group (ie, < 47 years old) and among participants whose mothers have undergraduate educational levels (P < 0.05). Other factors like parental consanguinity, educational level of participants, their father’s educational level, and residency place showed no significant associations (P > 0.05). Rejection of consanguinity was significantly noted among young age participants, absence of parental consanguinity, the presence of children or family members with genetic disorders and female gender (P < 0.001). Furthermore, participants who indicated that they are governmental employees, those with 2000– 5000 ILS monthly income, those who are married (P < 0.01), and those who indicated that their mothers are holders of postgraduate degree were significantly more likely to reject the idea of consanguinity (P < 0.05). Also, medical and/or scientific reasons were significantly associated with rejecting the idea of consanguinity (P < 0.001).Conclusion: Consanguinity prevalence has decreased among recent generations in Palestine, but it remains a significant challenge in Palestine. Therefore, educational and awareness programs about consanguinity and its health effects are effective strategies for reducing the consanguinity rate, especially for persons who are at the age of marriage.Keywords: consanguinity, perceptions, awareness, genetics, health effects

6. The relation between SARS-CoV-2 cases in Bahrain and meteorological parameters: 27 months of data

Abstract: Background: There has been a belief in and strong thought about the existence of a relationship between meteorological parameters and the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Many studies have been conducted but with a short period of investigation, i.e., not more than 4 months. Therefore, the relation between 27 months of SARS-CoV-2 recorded data and meteorological parameters is reported. The aim of this study is to use this vast data to examine whether average temperature, average wind speed, and absolute humidity are clearly correlated with the number of infected SARS-CoV-2 cases in Bahrain or not, which may be applicable to countries that have similar topography.Method: The official recorded data of SARS-CoV-2 cases in Bahrain from the first day that SARS-CoV-2 cases were detected (February 24, 2020) until May 18, 2022, along with 4 meteorological parameters (temperature, wind speed, relative humidity, and absolute humidity) were used. The data were analyzed using SPSS where a p-value less than 0.05 was considered as statistically significant.Result: There is a negative significant correlation between new daily cases of SARS-CoV-2 and temperature, T, and absolute humidity, AH, (r = −0.290, −0.317; p < 0.001, respectively). The results also show a positive significant correlation between daily cases of SARS-CoV-2 and wind speed (V) (r = −0.110; p = 0.002). No correlation was found between daily cases of SARS-CoV-2 and relative humidity (r = −0.028; p = 0.429). An empirical relation is reported, allowing the estimation of SARS-CoV-2 cases in Bahrain as a function of three weather parameters: T, AH, and V.

7. Free Flap Selection and Outcomes of Soft Tissue Reconstruction Following Resection of Intra-oral Malignancy

Abstract: Introduction: Surgery to resect intra-oral malignancy is a well-established mode of primary treatment. The tissue requirement in this area is for a thin, pliable flap with minimal bulk and this has historically been provided by free tissue transfer with a radial forearm free flap (RFFF). More recently, a role for the anterolateral thigh free flap (ALTFF) has been described, although in populations with a westernized diet, body habitus may preclude use of an ALTFF due to flap thickness, relative to a radial forearm free flap.Methods: An analysis of data was performed retrospectively for 90 consecutive patients with intra-oral malignancy, requiring immediate soft tissue reconstruction by the senior author, at Addenbrooke's Hospital between July 2008 and April 2016. Cases requiring bony reconstruction were excluded. Data on patient age, sex, indication for surgery, tumor location and defect type, complications, success rates, and length of stay were recorded.Results: The majority of patients received an ALTFF (n = 56) with 38% receiving a RFFF (n = 34). Surgical resection took place in the floor of the mouth most frequently. These were closed with ALTFF and RFFF in 41 and 28 occasions, respectively. A success rate of 97% was observed in the RFFF group; 1 flap developed partial necrosis and required complete revision. In the ALTFF group, there was a 100% flap success rate. ALTFF usage resulted in a reduction in the number of intraoperative (p = 0.021) in addition a reduction in the number of days in ITU (p = 0.01) and post-operative clinic visits (p = 0.025).Conclusion: We present a series that used predominately the ALTFF to reconstruct intra-oral defects following resection of squamous cell carcinoma in a Western population. The results demonstrate that this treatment can produce at least as comparable results as to the use of a RFFF repair in this population, whilst avoiding the donor site morbidity and aesthetic compromise of a RFFF.

Abstract: A risk assessment of basil-based pesto sauces containing methyleugenol and related alkenylbenzenes was performed based on their levels detected in a series of pesto sauces available on the Dutch market. The estimated daily intake (EDI) values of alkenylbenzenes as a result of consumption of the different pesto sauces amounted to 1.2â44.3Â Î¼g/kg bw for individual alkenylbenzenes, 14.3â43.5Â Î¼g/kg bw when adding up the alkenylbenzene levels assuming equal potency, and 17.3â62.9Â Î¼g/kg bw when expressed in methyleugenol equivalents using alkenylbenzenes defined toxic equivalency factors (TEF). The margin of exposure approach (MOE), used to evaluate the potential risks, resulted in MOE values that were generally lower than 10000 indicating a priority for risk management when assuming daily consumption. The levels of methyleugenol detected in the pesto sauces would allow consumption of 1.1â29.8, 7.5â208, 15.1â416.5, and 32.4â892.5Â g of pesto sauce on a daily basis, once a week, once every two weeks, and once a month, respectively, to achieve MOE values above the 10000 limit indicating low priority for risk management. It is concluded that consumption of pesto sauces would only be of concern if consumed on a daily basis over longer periods of time. 10. Vismodegib for Locally Advanced Periocular and Orbital Basal Cell Carcinoma: A Review of 15 Consecutive Cases

Abstract: Summary:. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common periocular skin cancer and can lead to significant morbidity. We assess the effectiveness of vismodegib, a first-in-class Hedgehog signaling pathway inhibitor, in the management of periocular and orbital BCCs based on clinical response, tolerability, and orbital content preservation. All patients with periocular or orbital BCCs who met criteria for vismodegib treatment were recruited prospectively between May 2012 and 2014 from 2 hospitals. Patients received oral vismodegib (150 mg daily) until disease progression, unacceptable toxicity, or withdrawal. All patients were followed up monthly. Patient demographics, tumor size, treatment duration including dosing regimen, adverse events, response rate, duration of response, progression-free survival, and disease-free survival were analyzed. All 15 patients had biopsy-proven BCCs with no metastatic disease at presentation. The mean age was 74 years and 10 patients (67%) had orbital involvement. The mean lesion longest dimension was 51 mm and 7 cases (47%) represented recurrence following previous surgery and/or radiotherapy. The mean treatment duration was 13 months and mean follow-up duration 36 months. Ten patients (67%) had a complete response, 3 (20%) had a partial response, and 2 had progressive disease following an initial partial response (13%). The partial response of 55% in 1 patient allowed subsequent surgical resection with clear margins. Vismodegib is effective for treating periocular and orbital BCCs with orbital salvage of patients who otherwise would have required exenteration. There is a neoadjuvant role for vismodegib but further studies are required.

Abstract: Transition metal complexes of Y(III), La(III) and Rh(III) with azo dye 2,4-dimethyl-6(4-nitro-phenylazo)-phenol derived from 4-nitroaniline and 2,4-dimethylphenol were synthesized. Characterization of these compounds has been done on the basis of elemental analysis, electronic data, FT-IR,UV-Vis and 1HNMR, as well as conductivity measurements. The nature of the complexes formed were studies following the mole ratio and continuous variation methods, Beer's law obeyed over a concentration range (1x10-4- 3x10-4). High molar absorbtivity of the complex solutions were observed. From the analytical data, the stoichiomerty of the complexes has been found to be 1:3 (Metal:ligand). On the basis of Physicochemical data octahedral geometries were assigned for the complexes.

Abstract: A Schiff base ligand (L) was synthesized via condensation of N‐(1‐naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride with phthalaldehyde. The ligand was characterized by FT‐IR, UV–Vis, 1H NMR, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis (C, H, N). Five metal complexes (Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II)) were prepared with the ligand in a 1:1 (M:L) ratio using an aqueous ethanol solution. The complexes were characterized by FT‐IR, UV–Vis, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis (C, H, N). Additionally, 1H NMR spectroscopy was employed for Cd(II) complex. Antimicrobial activity of the ligand and its metal complexes against pathogenic bacteria (K. pneumoniae, E. coli, S. aureus, and S. epidermidis) and fungus (C. albicans) were evaluated using the agar well diffusion method. All compounds exhibited inhibitory effects with zone diameters ranging from 8 to 16 mm. The ligand and complexes also displayed significant anticancer activity against a mammary carcinoma cell line. Among them, Zn(II) and Cu(II) complexes demonstrated the highest inhibitory effects (70.68% and 70.57%, respectively), followed by the ligand (61.35%) and Co(II), Cd(II), and Ni(II) complexes (60.34%, 58.96%, and 41.63%, respectively). IC50 values followed a similar trend, ranging from 31.69% (Co(II)) to 165.7% (Cd(II)). Abstract: Soft tissue sarcomas are one of the rarest forms of cancer. We describe a unique case of a 35-year-old patient who sustained an open lower limb fracture requiring an intramedullary nail and free latissimus dorsi (LD) muscle flap reconstruction. He had a complex postoperative course including osteomyelitis, a refracture, and chronic pain. Eleven years following the injury, he presented with pain and localized swelling around the flap. Histological analysis confirmed a rhabdomyosarcoma within the LD muscle and he underwent a transfemoral amputation. He is now in remission and walks on a prosthesis pain-free.

Abstract: The azo ligand obtained from the diazotization reaction of 2-aminobenzothiazole and 4-nitroaniline yielded a novel series of complexes with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) ions. The complexes were investigated using spectral techniques such as UV-Vis, FT-IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopic analyses, LC-MS and atomic absorption spectrometry, electrical conductivity, and magnetic susceptibility. The molar ratio of the synthesized compounds was determined using the ligand exchange ratio, which revealed the metal-ligand ratios in the isolated complexes were 1:2. The synthesized complexes were tested for antimicrobial activity against S. aureus, E. coli, C. albicans, and C. tropicalis bacterial species. Additionally, their binding affinities were predicted using molecular docking analysis, and their pharmacokinetic and drug-likeness properties were evaluated. Abstract: OBJECTIVE: Liver biopsy is the gold standard method to evaluate patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, due to its several limitations and complications, a reliable and non-invasive marker is required to assess liver fibrosis. In this study, we compared the performance of the FIB-4 index [based on age, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels and platelets count] with the Scheuer scoring system of liver biopsies to evaluate the diagnostic utility of FIB-4 among NAFLD patients with different liver fibrosis severities. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted at An-Najah National University Hospital (NNUH) in Palestine. The FIB-4 index was calculated using laboratory data for 128 NAFLD patients who underwent liver biopsies between November 2014 and July 2022. The results of FIB-4 were compared with the Scheuer scoring system of liver biopsies (using F0, F1+F2, F3+F4) to determine the sensitivity and specificity of FIB-4 in detecting and staging liver fibrosis. RESULTS: Out of 128 patients involved in our study, 49 of them had advanced fibrosis according to liver biopsy (F3+F4), where their FIB-4 indices showed 87% sensitivity at 1.45 cut off point and 87% specificity at 3.25 cut off point. CONCLUSIONS: The FIB-4 index may be used as a screening tool in the primary care setting. To raise awareness of liver diseases, this non-invasive, inexpensive, simple, and quick marker could identify people in need of further liver fibrosis evaluation and diagnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pilot research was carried out to assess the questionnaire's reliability, a questionnaire which is consisted of 20 questions, at Maternity and Pediatric Hospital in Al-Samawa City. This study started from 1 January 2023 to 10 June 2023. The study was carried out during the morning shift at the Maternity and Pediatric Hospital in Al-Samawa City, and self-report – structured questionnaire with nurse were performed in the wards (both public and private wards), includes emergency room, wards medical and preoperative room, (purposive and non-probability sample) were according to the study's findings, nurses’ knowledge of concerning gestational hypertension. Results: The findings indicate that this table indicates most age of the sample (80%) were 31-39 years old, the table also show that the majority of the study subjects (56%) are female where more than half of them was Single (56%). Most study sample graduated from college nursing about (52%), and the total years of services (50%) were (11-20). The result of assessment of nurse knowledge regarding concerning gestational hypertension was good level. Conclusions: The study concluded that the knowledge of a good level of nurses about gestational hypertension is good in Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital. Abstract: The Shiranish Formation is cropped out in several areas in northern Iraq. A stratigraphic and facies study was conducted within the Duhok region to determine the sedimentary environment. Three microfacies, reflecting the various subenvironments within different shelf parts of the deep sea, have been identified within the Shiranish Formation. Four depositional environments are identified: slope, the toe of slope, deep shelf, and deep-sea or cratonic deep basin. The Shiranish Formation in the Duhok region, Northern Iraq, was deposited in an open shelf carbonate platform. The Shiranish Formation sequence is divided into six third-order cycles in the study area. These asymmetrical cycles reflect an imbalance between the relative level of the sea and the production of carbonate, and each one reflects a rise in the sea level following a period of standstill. There is a two-sequence boundary type SB-2 that defines the surface. The Shiranish sequence developed in a high-subsidence area that played the main role in the evolution of the formation. It was deposited on a carbonate platform with high subsidence due to major transgression, wherever the successive sea-level rise and stillstand episodes persist.

This cross-sectional online survey was responded by 482 Omani university students. The survey included socio-demographic data, a Social Media Activity Questionnaire, and a Body Dissatisfaction Scale. The participants were approached through promotion of the study on locally famous social media accounts. Results The prevalence of body image dissatisfaction was higher in females compared to males (37.7% and 24%, respectively). 48. Lifestyle and Dietary Patterns during the COVID-19 Lockdown in Bahrain: A Web-Based Cross-Sectional Study.

Abstract: Lifestyle factors such as dietary habits, perceived weight, sleep, and physical activity worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through this study, we aimed to understand the impact of COVID-19 on these lifestyle factors in Bahrain. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1005 adult Bahrainis. Data were collected online using a structured and validated questionnaire for the assessment of eating habits, physical activity, and lifestyle during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants were snowballed through those who agreed to answer the online questionnaire. There was a higher consumption of fast food, and a higher dependence on takeaways during the COVID-19 pandemic. About 63.5% of the participants consumed >4 meals per day, compared to 36.5% before the COVID-19. About 30% reported consumption of sugar sweetened beverages from two to three times a day. Weight loss was predominantly observed in persons exercising 1–3 times a week. The consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages was also high, with about 19% reporting drinking sweet beverages once every day, 10.6% from two to three times a day, and 40.4% from one to four times a week. A higher proportion of the participants reported poor sleep quality during the pandemic (31.2%) compared to before (12.2%), and 39.7% of the participants reported feeling lazy. Screen time use also doubled during the pandemic, with participants spending more than five hours per day on screens for entertainment, which went from 22.4% before to 51.9% during the pandemic. The lifestyle and dietary habits changed drastically for our study participants during the pandemic. The increased reliance on processed fast food instead of healthier options is a challenge to be tackled in any future pandemic situation. Future research needs to focus on strategies to promote healthier lifestyle modifications during situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

50. Experimental Investigation of Double Pass Solar Air Collector for Using in Agricultural Applications

Abstract: In this research, an experimental study has been performed in order to enhance the thermal performance of a double-pass solar air collector by employing extended surfaces. In order to increase the heat transfer area, triangular-shaped fins were mounted on the longitudinal direction of the absorber plate. Four models of the solar air collectors were made of aluminum with different fin configurations. The experiments were carried out at the winter season in the climate of Iraq - Ramadi city with longitude 43.268 and latitude (33.43). The used range of mass flow rate in the experiments was from 0.027 kg/s to 0.037 kg/s. The comparison with previous studies in terms of thermal efficiency showed good agreement where the percentage of error does not exceed 1% between them. The results also provided that the existing of fins was a good technique for enhancing the thermal performance of double-pass solar air collector with a marginal increase in pressure drop. Consequently, it is possible to adopt this kind of solar air collectors for many agricultural applications such as solar dryer.
