Character education gets a lot of attention from stakeholders and educators to be developed; hence, many models have been created to develop the affective domain. This study aimed to analyze the relationship and contribution of critical thinking skills and social skills with students' character through the application of discovery models. The population of this study were high school students in Situbondo. The research sample was chosen from SMA Negeri 1 Besuki with the purposive sampling method. The research instrument to measure critical thinking skills was an essay test developed from Facione's critical thinking skills rubric. Social skills were measured using instruments adopted from Social Skills inventory. To examine students' character, observation sheets were developed from six pillars of character element of the Josephson Institute. The validity and reliability of the instruments were performed before using them. The results of the validity calculation with product-moment correlation analysis and the reliability calculation with Cronbach's alpha analysis showed that the instrument was valid and reliable so that it could be used in this study. Data were analyzed using multiple regression. The results showed critical thinking skills and social thinking skills together had a contribution to the development of students' character in the application of discovery learning models. This research can be a reference for readers about the contribution of students' critical thinking skills and social skills to developing students' character. Further research is needed to find out other impacts that affect students' character.

A survey and exploratory study were conducted to analyze Lake Tempe as a resource for contextual learning (CTL). The first phase of the study included exploring the lake's potential through interviews with the people who live in the lake's coastal region. Quadrat transects were done to identify aquatic plants around the lake. A feasibility analysis was conducted to see the lake's potential as a learning resource. Field data were collected and compared to the environmental biology (EB) curriculum, responses, and learning outcome. The data were analyzed descriptively and tested using a paired sample t-test. The results showed differences in the three stations' physicochemical parameters and decreased quality of the water. It was found that anthropogenic activity had a significant contribution to the lake's pollution. Nine species of six aquatic plant families were found in the lake. The survey revealed that the lake was feasible as a learning resource with criteria easy to access, safety, time efficiency, costs, and the material's suitability for EB courses. The t-test showed a difference in the students' scores between before and after exploration practices. These findings suggest that Lake Tempe can serve as a resource for CTL in EB courses.

This study was intended to display the role of eco-school program (Adiwiyata) towards environtmental literacy (EL) of high school students by analyzing, (a) EL of students in Adiwiyata and non-Adiwiyata high schools, and (b) EL of students in Grade X and XI, Adiwiya and non-Adiwiyata high schools in Malang-East Java, Indonesia. The survey involved 275 students. The respondents were from four state high school i.e. SMAN 1, SMAN 3, SMAN 4, and SMAN 7. Data were taken via MSELS questionnaire that was modified and filled online. Aspects of EL include ecological knowledge, environmental affect, cognitive skills, and behavior. The results of multivariate analysis showed that the level of students' EL was significantly influenced by school type and grade. However, the interaction both of them had no significant effect on their EL. Univariate results on school type factor informed that significant differences occured in all aspects of EL, where the lower identified level of students in Adiwiyata schools compared to NonAdiwiyata was only in the environmental affect. On the other hand, the significant influence of grade level only occurred in cognitive skills aspect. Broadly speaking, all data analyzes concluded that the application of the Adiwiyata program was able to bring a positive impact on the level of students' EL. There was also a tendency that the higher the student's grade, the better their EL level.

This study aimed at: 1) Examining the effect of RMS learning model to metacognitive skills. 2) Examining the effect of different academic abilities against metacognitive skills. 3) Examining the effect of interaction between RMS learning model and different academic abilities against metacognitive skills. This study is quasi experiment which employed pretest and posttest non equivalent group design. The instrument of this study was essay test with high level of reliability 0.712. Descriptive analysis and ANACOVA statistical analysis were applied to analyze the obtained data. The results showed that RMS learning model effectively improved metacognitive skills and able to aligned students' metacognitive skills in different academic abilities. The highest indicator metacognitive skills are shown on the indicator planning with descriptions set goals with a value of 90%. The impact of RMS learning models was 51.5% higher than conventional models on metacognitive skills.

The aim of this research was to: (1) compare the effectiveness of OIDDE (Orientation, Identify, Discussion, Decision, and Engage in Behavior) learning model and conventional learning models in improving bioethics knowledge; (2) compare the effectiveness of OIDDE learning model and conventional learning models in improving ethical decision-making abilities; and (3) comparing the effectiveness of OIDDE learning model and conventional learning model in improving ethical attitudes. The research design was a quasi experimental non-equivalent control group design pretest post-test. The research population was the second semester students of the biology pre-service teachers' department of biology education of the FTTE Muhammadiyah University of Malang. Sampling was done by simple random sampling and obtained 76 students were divided into 37 students in the experimental group and 39 students in the control group. Data collecting is carried out through bioethical knowledge tests, and ethical decision- making, and scoring of ethical attitudes. Data were analyzed by ANCOVA, Kolmogorv-Smirnov, and unpaired T test. The results showed that there were significant differences in the effectiveness of achieving improved bioethics knowledge, ethical decision making, and ethical attitudes between OIDDE and conventional learning models, namely the effectiveness of OIDDE learning models higher than conventional learning models.

Students' critical thinking skills are very important in the 21st century. Learning strategies can play a role in enhancing students' critical thinking skills in the Nutrition and Health lecture. The results of a survey in 2013 showed that the implementation of learning strategies had not given students the opportunity to practice their critical thinking skills optimally. The new strategy, a combination of "PDEODE" and "STAD," can be used to overcome the occurring problems. The purpose of this research was to determine the increase in students' critical thinking skills in the nutrition and health lecture after they were taught using a combination of "PDEODE" and "STAD." This was a pre-experimental research using a "one group pretest-posttest" research design. The samples of this research were one class consisting of 41 university students. The results of the test were analyzed with quantitative methods, by using statistical analysis, "paired samples T-test," and to know the effectiveness using gain scores. The results showed that the significance was 0.000 (p <0.05) and the gain score was 0.58. Thus, it can be concluded that the strategy of combining "PDEODE" and "STAD" can effectively improve the students' critical thinking skills in the nutrition and health lecture.

This study aimed at determining the effect of recycle materials usage for science practicum on students' basic science process skills of the Open University, Surakarta. Recycle materials are the term used for the obtained materials and equipment from the students' environment by taking back the garbage or secondhand objects into goods or new products which have a benefit for practicum activities. Randomized posttest only control group design was applied in this study and involving 83 students which divided into experimental class and control class. Collected data were science process skills test and questionnaire. The results of this study obtained Kruskal Wallis test result of 0.000<0.05. So, there was effect of recycle materials usage for science practicum on students' science process skills. Students also provided positive feedback on the use of recycle materials for science lab activities.

The utilization of palm oil industry’s residues on empty fruit bunch (EFB), for biochar production has gained considerable attention due to its potential in waste management and sustainable resource utilization. In this study, the investigation of bonding properties and morphological characteristics of torrefied pelletised biochar derived from EFB was done through torrefaction process which is a thermal treatment process under low oxygen conditions to enhance the energy density and stability of the biochar. Torrefied pelletised biochar was formed from the torrefied EFB biochar utilising the strand size of 750µm, holding temperature of 274°C, and residence time of 90 minutes, and later mixed with a binding agent at proportions (10%–30% of weight). The bonding properties of torrefied pelletised biochar were further analysed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) for identifying functional groups present in the torrefied pelletised biochar. Morphological characteristics were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to analyse the surface morphology and pore structure. Results indicate that torrefaction significantly improved the bonding properties of the torrefied biochar but not for the pelletised biochar. SEM images revealed a more compact and homogeneous structure with enhancing the porosity of the torrefied biochar in preparing them as pelletised due to the help of pores size for binder. FTIR analysis demonstrated alterations in functional groups, suggesting chemical transformations induced by torrefaction. The enhanced bonding properties and morphological characteristics contribute to its suitability for practical implementation in agricultural and environmental sectors, thereby promoting sustainable waste management practices and resource utilization.

The Gua Ikan Karst Complex (GIKC) is one of the geosite in the Stong Geopark. It consists of spectacular Middle Permian–Late Triassic Gua Musang Formation karst topography, represented by four (4) caves i.e., Gua Ikan, Gua Keris, Gua Pagar, and Gua Gelap. The GIKC can be potentially developed for nature-based tourism since it holds great geoheritage values. The aim of this research is to evaluate the current state of geotourism condition (qualitatively/quantitatively) and geoheritage features of the GIKC using two (2) values in the Modified Geosite Assessment Model (M- GAM) i.e., the Main Value (MV) and Additional Value (AV). The results indicate that the GIKC offers high Scientific/Educational Value (VSE); in the aspect of karst geomorphology (underground river caves, valley/wang, cave chambers, unique shape of stalactite/stalagmite/columns), lithology (metamorphosed limestone of the Gua Musang Formation and the Taku Shist), and palaeogeographic features (coral fossils, sea notch). In summary, the Total Main Value (∑MV) are Gua Ikan (9.73), Gua Keris (9.39), Gua Pagar (9.27) and Gua Gelap (8.66). The Total Additional Value (∑AV) are Gua Ikan (11.56), Gua Keris (11.25), Gua Pagar (11.04) and Gua Gelap (10.98). This paper’s findings reveal a comprehensive base for the improvement, planning, and management of the GIKC to become a geotourism end-point.

Automation of various routine operations using the robotics arm in industrial automation is crucial for bridging innovative systems and production procedures, thereby speeding up the manufacturing process by reducing overall cycle times. In this work, Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to simulate a robotic arm for handling electronic printers to foster their transportation. The analysis considers different loads and materials which include AISI 304, cast carbon steel, aluminium alloy 1060, malleable cast iron and AISI 1020. The effects of discrete particulate mechanical properties, concerning material, load zone and design configuration parameters were revealed. The remarkable result of these simulations shows displacement, tensile and compressive strain distribution values as a conclusion of the better capacity for anticipated lightweight operation using aluminium alloy 1060 robotic arm transporting device. In addition, the current simulations give a profound picture of how materials are selected to maximize the operational process.

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks are dangerous attacks that can cause disruption to server, system or application layer. It will flood the target server with the amount of Internet traffic that the server could not afford at one time. Therefore, it is possible that the server will not work if it is affected by this DDoS attack. Due to this attack, the network security environment becomes insecure with the possibility of this attack. In recent years, the cases related to DDoS attacks have increased. Although previously there has been a lot of research on DDoS attacks, cases of DDoS attacks still exist. Therefore, the research on feature selection approach has been done in effort to detect the DDoS attacks by using machine learning techniques. In this paper, to detect DDoS attacks, features have been selected from the UNSW-NB 15 dataset by using Information Gain and Data Reduction method. To classify the selected features, ANN, Naïve Bayes, and Decision Table algorithms were used to test the dataset. To evaluate the result of the experiment, the parameters of Accuracy, Precision, True Positive and False Positive evaluated the results and classed the data into attacks and normal class. Hence, the good features have been obtained based on the experiments. To ensure the selected features are good or not, the results of classification have been compared with the past research that used the same UNSW-NB 15 dataset. To conclude, the accuracy of ANN, Naïve Bayes and Decision Table classifiers has been increased by using this feature selection approach compared to the past research.

This study aimed to develop and assess strategies for integrating a green curriculum into Indonesian elementary science education to improve environmental awareness and eco-friendly culture among students. Utilizing research development design, the research began with a needs analysis from five elementary schools, followed by a quasi-experiment in one selected school. Environmental awareness and eco-friendly culture were measured at the end of the learning period in both control and experimental groups, with a t-test revealing significant differences. The experimental group showed higher environmental awareness and eco-friendly culture scores than the control group than the control group (p < .05). These results confirmed that integrating environmental responsibility into student activities in science education, such as caring for plants or animals, significantly enhances their environmental stewardship. This study provides practical and theoretical insights into green curriculum integration, especially in developing countries, and highlights the importance of incorporating ecological responsibility projects in education to promote sustainable behaviors. Torrefaction refers to a thermal process that involves the processing of biomass in a torrefied to produce a "charred" product that can be utilised as a fuel or as a soil amendment. People need energy sources to meet their basic needs and live the kind of life they want. Acacia mangium was selected in order to produce biochar and determine the lignocellulosic affected by the holding temperature and residence time. The chemical properties of torrefied Acacia mangium biochar were investigated at different holding temperatures and residence times. Torrefaction were carried out at several process temperatures, ranging from 200 to 300°C, with residence time ranging from 30 to 90 minutes. According to the findings, the effects of holding temperature and residence time on the chemical properties of torrefied Acacia mangium biochar was carried out. The results show that the chemical properties decreased with an increase in both the holding temperature and residence time except for the lignin percentage content. It shows that as the holding temperature and residence time increased, the lignin content increased. The results shows that the chemical properties are decreased, except for the lignin content, which is not affected by the factors. The chemical bond in lignin content is hard for breaking down. Hence, torrefaction is accountable for the decrease of chemical properties and the breaking of chemical bonds in chemical properties.

Greener methods should be implemented to encourage a transition towards more sustainable food production. The emphasis was on increasing the production of Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis). This study aims to outline a holistic approach for thoroughly analysing the Spirulina production chain to create a customised development plan for sustainability. A total of eighteen respondents from six sectors (Spirulina Producers, Research and Development Institutions, Suppliers of Inputs, Processing and Packaging Companies, Distributors and wholesalers, and Retailers) that are involve with the Spirulina chain have participated in this study. The SWOT analysis was used to determine the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats related to the production chain of Spirulina intended for human consumption to conduct a structured strategic planning targeting process optimisation and environmental sustainability. The findings show greening the Spirulina value chain requires commitment and collaboration among related stakeholders. The weakness of standardised production practices, limited research and development, inadequate infrastructure and technology, and limited market access and distribution channels must be addressed through stakeholder collaborative efforts. Taking advantage of the opportunities of greening the Spirulina value chain will be an excellent place to start for the business to develop sustainably and increase its competitiveness. Greening Spirulina value chains offer significant potential for environmental sustainability in Malaysia.

Waste-to-energy is the preferred solution, according to the waste management hierarchy considering landfill waste disposal may not be the most effective method of waste usage. Torrefaction of kitchen waste to produce higher-quality solid fuels is an effective option with lower temperature requirements than pyrolysis and gasification. By addressing the problems, the fuel quality in terms of high heating value can be investigated. Also, the torrefaction parameters, temperature and time, can be examined on the fuel performance. The moldy bread undergoes torrefaction by torrefying it in the furnace with temperatures of 200, 250 and 300°C, respectively, with 15, 30, 45 and 60 mins of processing times. With increased torrefaction temperature, the mass dropped while the higher heating value (HHV) increased. The rise in carbon content also enhanced the torrefied moldy bread's fuel properties. Also, this is because the primary components of the moldy bread, particularly hemicellulose, have significantly decomposed. Therefore, processed temperature of 300°C at elevation time of 45 min produced tremendous gain than other parameters observed.

Although pharmaceuticals are detected at low levels, their continued release into the environment might result in significant long-term concentrations and lead to damaging consequences on humans, animals, and the environment. The findings have been analysed that various pharmaceutical components were found in sewage treatment plants, including naproxen sodium. Naproxen sodium has been found in various water sources, such as in groundwater and in drinking water. Utilizing OPEFB as adsorbent in wastewater treatment is a feasible alternative. This study focussed on the adsorption capacity of OPEFB biochar for naproxen removal water. The highest percentage removal (99.7%) of naproxen achieved at 100 ppm concentration with 2.5 g of OPEFB biochar. Meanwhile, the usage of 5.0g of OPEFB biochar showed the highest percentage of the removal of naproxen sodium at 100 ppm concentration after 24 hours was 99.27%. OPEFB is one of the most suitable and have the potential in removing almost all the pollutants in wastewater by undergoing the adsorption process.

Complementing science subjects with spirituality components is almost universal and is a significant requirement in religion-based schools. However, integrating spiritual components into science classes is challenging, particularly in inquiry-based problem-solving tasks. In this experiment, we modified inquiry learning and contextual teaching. We tested the efficacy of a combined model called the socio-science spirituality (3S) model on students’ spirituality and science process skills (SPS). Through a quasi-experiment, this learning model was applied in classes addressing the digestive system, additives and addictive chemicals, and the circulatory system. Following the 3S classroom implementation, we compared the mean pre- and post-test scores of the experimental and control groups using the analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) test and then assessed the relationship between spirituality and SPS in the classrooms using the Pearson-correlation test. The research found that spirituality and SPS were much higher and more prevalent in the experimental group compared to the control group. In the experimental class, there was also a link between spirituality and SPS. Theoretically, this research finding contributes to spiritual education and the development of SPS skills in science classes simultaneously. This research provides a unique way to prioritize the integration of spirituality in science learning. Further analysis of the effectiveness of integrating project-based learning (PjBL) in Invertebrate Zoology courses to improve students' science process skills and conceptual understanding needs to be carried out. This research was aimed to analyze the integration of PjBL in the Invertebrate Zoology course on scientific process skills and conceptual understanding of student. As for seeing the effect of each indicator from each predictor, a qualitative descriptive analysis was carried out. Respondents in this study were students of the Biology Education Study Program FTTE Universitas Bengkulu. A sample of 30 respondents was taken by random sampling technique. The research instrument is a questionnaire for scientific process skills and tests for understanding concepts. The hypothesis is tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The integration of PjBL has a significant influence on the scientific skills process of 0.038 with an F value of 4.524 and also has a significant influence on concept understanding at 0.018 with an F value of 0.018. It was concluded that there was an effect of the integration of PjBL on scientific process skills and conceptual understanding of Invertebrate Zoology, with a significance level of 0.05, so that it can be taken into consideration in developing learning in the Invertebrate Zoology course.
