In this work, we have studied the microstructure and unusual ferromagnetic behavior in epitaxial tin dioxide (SnO2) films implanted with 40 keV Co+ ions to a high fluence of 1.0 × 1017 ions/cm2 at room or elevated substrate temperatures. The aim was to comprehensively understand the interplay between cobalt implant distribution, crystal defects (such as oxygen vacancies), and magnetic properties of Co-implanted SnO2 films, which have potential applications in spintronics. We have utilized scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), differential thermomagnetic analysis (DTMA), and ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) to investigate Co-implanted epitaxial SnO2 films. The comprehensive experimental investigation shows that the Co ion implantation with high cobalt concentration induces significant changes in the microstructure of SnO2 films, leading to the appearance of ferromagnetism with the Curie temperature significantly above the room temperature. We also established a strong influence of implantation temperature and subsequent high-temperature annealing in air or under vacuum on the magnetic properties of Co-implanted SnO2 films. In addition, we report a strong chemical effect of ethanol on the FMR spectra. The obtained results are discussed within the model of two magnetic layers, with different concentrations and valence states of the implanted cobalt, and with a high content of oxygen vacancies.

Several virus-neutralizing monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have become new tools in the treatment of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), but their effectiveness against the rapidly mutating virus is questionable. The present study investigated the effectiveness of Tixagevimab/Cilgavimab and Regdanvimab for mild and moderate COVID-19 treatment in real-world clinical practice during the Omicron variant-dominant period. Patients with known risk factors for disease progression and increasing disease severity were enrolled in the study within the first 7 days of symptom onset. Seventy-seven patients were divided into four groups: first 15 patients received 300 mg Tixagevimab/Cilgavimab intravenously (IV) and 23 patients got the same drug 300 mg intramuscularly (IM), the next 15 patients was on the same combination in dose of 600 mg IV, and 24 patients were on Regdanvimab at a dose of 40 mg/kg IV. By Day 4, 100% of Tixagevimab/Cilgavimab IV patients showed negative polymerase chain reaction results for SARS-CoV-2 Ribonucleic acid (RNA) regardless of the mAbs dose while in the Regdanvimab group 29% of the patients were positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus RNA. The testing for virus neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) to various Omicron sublineages (BA.1, BA.2, and BA.5) showed that an increase in nAb levels was detected in blood serum immediately after the drug administration only in Tixagevimab/Cilgavimab 300 mg and 600 mg IV groups. In the group of intravenous Regdanvimab, a significant increase in the level of nAbs to the Wuhan variant was detected immediately after the drug administration, while no increase in nAbs to different Omicron sublineages was observed.Clinical trial registrationhttps://clinicaltrials.gov/, identifier NCT05982704.

Metastatic esophageal adenocarcinoma to the urinary bladder is extremely rare and aggressive. We discuss here the case of an 83-year-old male with history of esophageal adenocarcinoma treated with chemoradiation therapy and esophagectomy who presented with gross hematuria and lower urinary tract symptoms. Pathology of the bladder tumor after transurethral resection demonstrated invasive adenocarcinoma of both the bladder and the prostatic urethra consistent with metastatic esophageal adenocarcinoma.

To protect young individuals against SARS-CoV-2 infection, we conducted an open-label, prospective, non-randomised dose-escalation Phase 1/2 clinical trial to evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of the prime-boost “Sputnik V” vaccine administered at 1/10 and 1/5 doses to adolescents aged 12–17 years. The study began with the vaccination of the older cohort (15-to-17-year-old participants) with the lower (1/10) dose of vaccine and then expanded to the whole group (12-to-17-year-old participants). Next, 1/5 dose was used according to the same scheme. Both doses were well tolerated by all age groups. No serious or severe adverse events were detected. Most of the solicited adverse reactions were mild. No significant differences in total frequencies of adverse events were registered between low and high doses in age-pooled groups (69.6% versus 66.7%). In contrast, the 1/5 dose induced significantly higher humoral and T cell-mediated immune responses than the 1/10 dose. The 1/5 vaccine dose elicited higher antigen-binding (both S and RBD-specific) as well as virus-neutralising antibody titres at the maximum of response (day 42), also resulting in a statistically significant difference at a distanced timepoint (day 180) compared to the 1/10 vaccine dose. Although unprecedented efforts aiming to stop the COVID-19 pandemic have been made over the past two years, SARSCoV-2 virus still continues to cause intolerable health and economical losses. Vaccines are considered the most effective way to prevent infectious diseases, which has been reaffirmed for COVID-19. However, in the context of the continuing virus spread because of insufficient vaccination coverage and emergence of new variants of concern, there is a high demand for vaccination strategy amendment. The ability to elicit protective immunity at the entry gates of infection provided by mucosal vaccination is key to block virus infection and transmission. Therefore, these mucosal vaccines are believed to be a “silver bullet” that could bring the pandemic to an end. Here, we demonstrate that the intranasally delivered Gam-COVID-Vac (Sputnik V) vaccine induced a robust (no less than 180 days) systemic and local immune response in mice. High immunogenic properties of the vaccine were verified in non-human primates (common marmosets) by marked IgG and neutralizing antibody (NtAb) production in blood serum, antigen-specific Tcell proliferation and cytokine release of peripheral blood mononuclear cells accompanied by formation of IgA antibodies in the nasal mucosa. We also demonstrate that Sputnik V vaccine can provide sterilizing immunity in K18-hACE2 transgenic mice exposed to experimental lethal SARS-CoV-2 infection protecting them against severe lung immunopathology and mortality. We believe that intranasal Sputnik V vaccine is a promising novel needle-free mucosal vaccine candidate for primary immunization as well as for revaccination and is worth further clinical investigation.

A series of Pd1−xFex alloy epitaxial films (x = 0, 0.038, 0.062, and 0.080), a material promising for superconducting spintronics, was prepared and studied with ultrafast optical and magneto-optical laser spectroscopy in a wide temperature range of 4–300 K. It was found that the transition to the ferromagnetic state causes a qualitative change of both the reflectivity and the magneto-optical Kerr effect transients. A nanoscale magnetic inhomogeneity of the ferromagnet/paramagnet type inherent in the palladium-rich Pd1−xFex alloys reveals itself through the occurrence of a relatively slow, 10–25 ps, photoinduced demagnetization component following a subpicosecond one; the former vanishes at low temperatures only in the x = 0.080 sample. We argue that the 10 ps timescale demagnetization originates most probably from the diffusive transport of d electrons under the condition of nanoscale magnetic inhomogeneities. The low-temperature fraction of the residual paramagnetic phase can be deduced from the magnitude of the slow reflectivity relaxation component. It is estimated as ≈30% for x = 0.038 and ≈15% for x = 0.062 films. The minimal iron content ensuring the magnetic homogeneity of the ferromagnetic state in the Pd1−xFex alloy at low temperatures is about 7–8 atom %.

The eligible patient population (n=60) was estimated from aggregate data provided by the clinic. Patients were eligible to treatment with mepolizumab if they had ≥ 2 exacerbation in the previous year and eosinophil count ≥ 150 cell/μL. The analysis compared the cost of treating patients in two alternative scenarios; a scenario where patients are treated with optimized usual care or with available biologic as add-on therapy, and a second scenario where mepolizumab is fully accessible to eligible patients.Results: Administration of mepolizumab to eligible patients at Rashid Hospital is predicted to result in overall savings estimated at £ 270,545 over a 5-year time horizon. Exacerbation rates could not be indirectly compared for mepolizumab and omalizumab, since treatment continuation rules were defined differently. Therefore, these parameters were directly taken from the clinical trials for mepolizumab and omalizumab. The savings were estimated due to drug acquisition costs (£ 269,900) and estimated reduction in exacerbation (n=15). One-way sensitivity analysis showed that the model results was most sensitive to changing the method of calculating omalizumab dose and varying the drug acquisition cost of omalizumab by ± 20%.Conclusion: The BIA showed that full accessibility of mepolizumab to eligible severe asthma patients is predicted to be budget saving in the Dubai Health Authority. This evaluation is relevant to healthcare decision making as it demonstrates that mepolizumab is budget saving for eligible patients, while reducing burden by improving their control and symptoms.Keywords: asthma phenotypes, eosinophil count, exacerbations, anti-IL5, treatment cost

We have investigated the low-temperature magnetoresistive properties of a thin epitaxial Pd0.92Fe0.08 film at different directions of the current and the applied magnetic field. The obtained experimental results are well described within an assumption of a single-domain magnetic state of the film. In a wide range of the appled field directions, the magnetization reversal proceeds in two steps via the intermediate easy axis. An epitaxial heterostructure of two magnetically separated ferromagnetic layers, Pd0.92Fe0.08/Ag/Pd0.96Fe0.04, was synthesized and studied with dc magnetometry. Its magnetic configuration diagram has been constructed and the conditions have been determined for a controllable switching between stable parallel, orthogonal, and antiparallel arrangements of magnetic moments of the layers.

The article considers the analysis of a crime under rule 230 of the Criminal code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (illegal actions in relation to insider information). The authors discuss the concept of insider information, the interpretation to the possibility of its misuse. A brief analysis of the object and the subject of insider information is provided, which serve securities, financial instruments, derivative financial instruments, and the approaches to their interpretation. A separate scientific classification of securities is given. The absence of a legislated list is emphasized. The content of the objective side is reviewed that lies in the restrictions on disposal and in the use of insider information. It is noted that insider information does not include information prepared on the basis of publicly available information or derived from media. The subject and the subjective side of the considered corpus delicti are allocated. The article discusses the European Union's approach to the legal regulation of market abuses, the establishment of strict administrative and criminal liability for insider dealing and market manipulation. The laws of some foreign countries on the subject are studied and suggestions for the improvement of certain provisions of the law are made.

Topological insulators in contact with a superconductor could house unusual physical states such as Majorana fermions. Here, the authors fabricate and report the electron-transport characteristics of Josephson junctions built using a nanoscale topological insulator, finding evidence for ballistic transport in the surface states of the nanocrystals.

Single-layer vanadium nitride (VN) and bilayer Pd0.96Fe0.04/VN and VN/Pd0.92Fe0.08 thin-film heterostructures for possible spintronics applications were synthesized on (001)-oriented single-crystalline magnesium oxide (MgO) substrates utilizing a four-chamber ultrahigh vacuum deposition and analysis system. The VN layers were reactively magnetron sputtered from a metallic vanadium target in Ar/N2 plasma, while the Pd1−xFex layers were deposited by co-evaporation of metallic Pd and Fe pellets from calibrated effusion cells in a molecular beam epitaxy chamber. The VN stoichiometry and Pd1−xFex composition were controlled by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In situ low-energy electron diffraction and ex situ X-ray diffraction show that the 30 nm thick single-layer VN as well as the double-layer VN(30 nm)/Pd0.92Fe0.08(12 nm) and Pd0.96Fe0.04(20 nm)/VN(30 nm) structures have grown cube-on-cube epitaxially. Electric resistance measurements demonstrate a metallic-type temperature dependence for the VN film with a small residual resistivity of 9 μΩ·cm at 10 K, indicating high purity and structural quality of the film. The transition to the superconducting state was observed at 7.7 K for the VN film, at 7.2 K for the Pd0.96Fe0.04/VN structure and at 6.1 K for the VN/Pd0.92Fe0.08 structure with the critical temperature decreasing due to the proximity effect. Contrary to expectations, all transitions were very sharp with the width ranging from 25 mK for the VN film to 50 mK for the VN/Pd0.92Fe0.08 structure. We propose epitaxial single-crystalline thin films of VN and heteroepitaxial Pd1−xFex/VN and VN/Pd1−xFex (x ≤ 0.08) structures grown on MgO(001) as the materials of a choice for the improvement of superconducting magnetic random access memory characteristics.

Background: While the world is experiencing another wave of COVID-19 pandemic, global vaccination program is hampered by an evident shortage in the supply of licensed vaccines. In an effort to satisfy vaccine demands we developed a new single-dose vaccine based on recombinant adenovirus type 26 (rAd26) vector carrying the gene for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike (S) glycoprotein – “Sputnik Light”. Methods: We conducted an open label, prospective, non-randomised phase 1/2 trial aimed to assess safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of “Sputnik Light” vaccine in a single center in Russia. Primary outcome measures were antigen-specific humoral immunity (Anti-RBD-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies measured by ELISA on days 1, 10, 28, and 42) and safety (number of participants with adverse events monitored throughout the study). Secondary outcome measures were antigen-specific cellular immunity (measured by antigen-dependent CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell proliferation, number of antigen-specific interferon-γ-producing cells as well as interferon-γ concentration upon antigen restimulation) and change in neutralizing antibodies (measured in SARS-CoV-2 neutralization assay). Findings: Most of the solicited adverse reactions were mild (66·4% from all vaccinees), few were moderate (5·5%). No serious adverse events were detected. Assessment of Anti-RBD-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies revealed a group with pre-existing immunity to SARS-CoV-2. Upon this finding we separated all safety and immunogenicity data based on pre-existing immunity to SARS-CoV-2. There were notable differences in the vaccine effects on immunogenicity by the groups. Vaccination of seropositive (N=14) volunteers rapidly boosted RBD-specific IgGs from reciprocal geometric mean titer (​GMT) 594·4 at a baseline up to 26899 comparing to 29·09 in seronegative group (N=96) by day 10. By day 42 seroconversion rate reached 100% (93/93) in seronegative group with GMT 1648. At the same time, in the seropositive group, seroconversion rate by day 42 was 92·9% (13/14) with GMT 19986. Analysis of neutralizing antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 showed 81·7% (76/93) and 92·9% (13/14) seroconversion rates by day 42 with median reciprocal GMT 15·18 and 579·7 in the seronegative and seropositive groups, respectively. Antigen-specific T cell proliferation, formation of IFNy-producing cells, and IFNy secretion were observed in 96·7% (26/27), 96% (24/25), and 96% (24/25) of the seronegative group respectively and in 100% (3/3), 100% (5/5), and 100% (5/5) of the seropositive vaccinees, respectively. Interpretation: The single-dose rAd26 vector-based COVID-19 vaccine “Sputnik Light” has a good safety profile and induces a strong humoral and cellular immune responses both in seronegative and seropositive participants.
