Abstract

Ensuring medical support of patients of advanced age in rural areas is a major challenge. Moreover, the number of registered doctors—medical specialists in particular—will decrease in such areas over the next years. These unmet medical needs in combination with communication deficiencies among different types of health-care professionals pose threats to the quality of patient treatment. This work presents a novel solution combining telemedicine, telecooperation, and IHE profiles to tackle these challenges. We present a telecooperation platform that supports longitudinal electronic patient records and allows for intersectoral cooperation based on shared electronic medication charts and other documents. Furthermore, the conceived platform allows for an integration into the planned German telematics infrastructure.

Abstract

Motor performance is monitored continuously by specialized brain circuits and used adaptively to modify behavior on a moment-to-moment basis and over longer time periods. During vocal behaviors, such as singing in songbirds, internal evaluation of motor performance relies on sensory input from the auditory and vocal-respiratory systems. Sensory input from the auditory system to the motor system, often referred to as auditory feedback, has been well studied in singing zebra finches (Taeniopygia guttata), but little is known about how and where nonauditory sensory feedback is evaluated. Here we show that brief perturbations in air sac pressure cause short-latency neural responses in the higher-order song control nucleus HVC (used as proper name), an area necessary for song learning and song production. Air sacs were briefly pressurized through a cannula in anesthetized or sedated adult male zebra finches, and neural responses were recorded in both nucleus parambigualis (PAm), a brainstem inspiratory center, and HVC, a cortical premotor nucleus. These findings show that song control nuclei in the avian song system are sensitive to perturbations directly targeted to vocal-respiratory, or viscerosensory, afferents and support a role for multimodal sensory feedback integration in modifying and controlling vocal control circuits. Abstract

As part of the digitalization strategy for medical documentation, we introduced a vendor-neutral archive (VNA) at the Jena University Hospital. The VNA provides data based on interoperable formats for all clinical systems and for communication with other actors as well as for secondary data use. HL7 FHIR is used as a standard for structuring individual data. Using the example of allergy documentation, the paper describes objectives, work status, and experiences from several sub-projects currently being pursued in Jena to establish FHIR. Challenges in information modelling, semantic annotation, connection of clinical sub-systems and integration of FHIR resources in archiving structures and processes are discussed and the necessary cooperation for profiling technical standards is indicated., Im Rahmen der Digitalisierungsstrategie für die medizinische Dokumentation haben wir am Universitätsklinikum Jena ein „Vendor-Neutral Archive“ (VNA) eingeführt. Das VNA stellt Daten auf der Basis interoperabler Formate für alle klinischen Systeme und zur Kommunikation mit anderen Akteuren sowie für die Sekundärdatennutzung zur Verfügung. Für strukturierte Einzeldaten kommt hierbei der Standard HL7 FHIR zum Einsatz. Der Artikel beschreibt am Beispiel der Allergiedokumentation Zielsetzungen und Erfahrungen aus mehreren Teilprojekten, die derzeit in Jena zur Etablierung von FHIR verfolgt werden. 50. Eliminating Blind Spots for Assisted Driving.

Abstract

Drivers of heavy goods vehicles are not able to survey the whole surrounding area of their vehicle due to large blind spot regions. This paper shows how catadioptric cameras - a combination of cameras and mirrors - can be used to survey the surrounding area of vehicles. Four such cameras were mounted on a truck-trailer combination, and the images are combined such that obstacles are visible in an image presented to the driver. This image is a bird's eye view of the vehicle. Additionally, corridors indicating the path of motion of the vehicle are overlaid to the resulting image. To compute those corridors, a mathematical description of the path of motion is derived. Such a system does not only support the driver during maneuvering tasks but also increases safety of driving large vehicles. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
