We investigate the physical properties of steady flows in a holographic first-order phase transition model, from the thermodynamics at equilibrium to the real-time dynamics far from equilibrium. Through spinodal decomposition and condensation nuclei, the phase-separated state with non-zero momentum is obtained, respectively. In such a geometric configuration, in addition to energy density, there is also a gap between coexisting phases for momentum density or longitudinal pressure, which is found to be characterized by flow velocity and latent heat. Furthermore, by introducing an inhomogeneous scalar external source to simulate a fixed obstacle, the dynamical response of momentum loss of the moving system is revealed. In particular, using the phase-separated state with uniform flow velocity as the background, we find that the moving high-energy phase exhibits four characteristic dynamical behaviors when interacting with an obstacle, rebounding, pinning, passing and splitting, depending on its velocity and the strength of the obstacle.

Generative Flow Networks (GFlowNets) have been shown effective to generate combinatorial objects with desired properties. We here propose a new GFlowNet training framework, with policy-dependent rewards, that bridges keeping flow balance of GFlowNets to optimizing the expected accumulated reward in traditional Reinforcement-Learning (RL). This enables the derivation of new policy-based GFlowNet training methods, in contrast to existing ones resembling value-based RL. It is known that the design of backward policies in GFlowNet training affects efficiency. We further develop a coupled training strategy that jointly solves GFlowNet forward policy training and backward policy design. Performance analysis is provided with a theoretical guarantee of our policy-based GFlowNet training. Experiments on both simulated and real-world datasets verify that our policy-based strategies provide advanced RL perspectives for robust gradient estimation to improve GFlowNet performance.

Neural code generation systems have recently attracted increasing attention to improve developer productivity and speed up software development. Typically, these systems maintain a pre-trained neural model and make it available to general users as a service (e.g., through remote APIs) and incorporate a feedback mechanism to extensively collect and utilize the users' reaction to the generated code, i.e., user feedback. However, the security implications of such feedback have not yet been explored. With a systematic study of current feedback mechanisms, we find that feedback makes these systems vulnerable to feedback data injection (FDI) attacks. We discuss the methodology of FDI attacks and present a pre-attack profiling strategy to infer the attack constraints of a targeted system in the black-box setting. We demonstrate two proof-of-concept examples utilizing the FDI attack surface to implement prompt injection attacks and backdoor attacks on practical neural code generation systems. The attacker may stealthily manipulate a neural code generation system to generate code with vulnerabilities, attack payload, and malicious and spam messages. Unanticipated runtime errors, lacking predefined handlers, can abruptly terminate execution and lead to severe consequences, such as data loss or system crashes. Despite extensive efforts to identify potential errors during the development phase, such unanticipated errors remain a challenge to to be entirely eliminated, making the runtime mitigation measurements still indispensable to minimize their impact. Automated self-healing techniques, such as reusing existing handlers, have been investigated to reduce the loss coming through with the execution termination. However, the usability of existing methods is retained by their predefined heuristic rules and they fail to handle diverse runtime errors adaptively. Recently, the advent of Large Language Models (LLMs) has opened new avenues for addressing this problem. Inspired by their remarkable capabilities in understanding and generating code, we propose to deal with the runtime errors in a real-time manner using LLMs. Specifically, we propose Healer, the first LLM-assisted self-healing framework for handling runtime errors. When an unhandled runtime error occurs, Healer will be activated to generate a piece of error-handling code with the help of its internal LLM and the code will be executed inside the runtime environment owned by the framework to obtain a rectified program state from which the program should continue its execution. Our exploratory study evaluates the performance of Healer using four different code benchmarks and three state-of-the-art LLMs, GPT-3.5, GPT-4, and CodeQwen-7B. Results show that, without the need for any fine-tuning, GPT-4 can successfully help programs recover from 72.8% of runtime errors, highlighting the potential of LLMs in handling runtime errors.

In this paper, we test the hypothesis that although OpenAI's GPT-4 performs well generally, we can fine-tune open-source models to outperform GPT-4 in smart contract vulnerability detection. We fine-tune two models from Meta's Code Llama and a dataset of 17k prompts, Detect Llama - Foundation and Detect Llama - Instruct, and we also fine-tune OpenAI's GPT-3.5 Turbo model (GPT-3.5FT). We then evaluate these models, plus a random baseline, on a testset we develop against GPT-4, and GPT-4 Turbo's, detection of eight vulnerabilities from the dataset and the two top identified vulnerabilities - and their weighted F1 scores. We find that for binary classification (i.e., is this smart contract vulnerable?), our two best-performing models, GPT-3.5FT and Detect Llama - Foundation, achieve F1 scores of $0.776$ and $0.68$, outperforming both GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo, $0.66$ and $0.675$. For the evaluation against individual vulnerability identification, our top two models, GPT-3.5FT and Detect Llama - Foundation, both significantly outperformed GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo in both weighted F1 for all vulnerabilities ($0.61$ and $0.56$ respectively against GPT-4's $0.218$ and GPT-4 Turbo's $0.243$) and weighted F1 for the top two identified vulnerabilities ($0.719$ for GPT-3.5FT, $0.674$ for Detect Llama - Foundation against GPT-4's $0.363$ and GPT-4 Turbo's $0.429$).

The urban rail transit (URT) system attracts many commuters with its punctuality and convenience. However, it is vulnerable to disruptions caused by factors like extreme weather and temporary equipment failures, which greatly impact passengers' journeys and diminish the system's service quality. In this study, we propose targeted travel guidance for passengers at different space-time locations by devising passenger rescheduling strategies during disruptions. This guidance not only offers insights into route changes but also provides practical recommendations for delaying departure times when required. We present a novel three-feature four-group passenger classification principle, integrating temporal, spatial, and spatio-temporal features to classify passengers in disrupted URT networks. This approach results in the creation of four distinct solution spaces based on passenger groups. A mixed integer programming model is built based on individual level considering the First-in-First-out (FIFO) rule in oversaturated networks. Additionally, we present a two-stage solution approach for handling the complex issues in large-scale networks. Experimental results from both small-scale artificial networks and the real-world Beijing URT network validate the efficacy of our proposed passenger rescheduling strategies in mitigating disruptions. Specifically, when compared to scenarios with no travel guidance during disruptions, our strategies achieve a substantial reduction in total passenger travel time by 29.7% and 50.9% respectively, underscoring the effectiveness in managing unexpected disruptions.

Probabilistic Hoare logic (PHL) is an extension of Hoare logic and is specifically useful in verifying randomized programs. It allows researchers to formally reason about the behavior of programs with stochastic elements, ensuring the desired probabilistic properties are upheld. The relative completeness of satisfaction-based PHL has been an open problem ever since the birth of the first PHL in 1979. More specifically, no satisfaction-based PHL with While-loop has been proven to be relatively complete yet. This paper solves this problem by establishing a new PHL with While-loop and prove its relative completeness. The programming language concerned in our PHL is expressively equivalent to the existing PHL systems but brings a lot of convenience in showing completeness. The weakest preterm for While-loop command reveals how it changes the probabilistic properties of computer states, considering both execution branches that halt and infinite runs. We prove the relative completeness of our PHL in two steps. We first establish a semantics and proof system of Hoare triples with probabilistic programs and deterministic assertions. Then, by utilizing the weakest precondition of deterministic assertions, we construct the weakest preterm calculus of probabilistic expressions. Automated software engineering has been greatly empowered by the recent advances in Large Language Models (LLMs) for programming. While current benchmarks have shown that LLMs can perform various software engineering tasks like human developers, the majority of their evaluations are limited to short and self-contained algorithmic tasks. Solving challenging and practical programming tasks requires the capability of utilizing diverse function calls as tools to efficiently implement functionalities like data analysis and web development. In addition, using multiple tools to solve a task needs compositional reasoning by accurately understanding complex instructions. Fulfilling both of these characteristics can pose a great challenge for LLMs. To assess how well LLMs can solve challenging and practical programming tasks, we introduce Bench, a benchmark that challenges LLMs to invoke multiple function calls as tools from 139 libraries and 7 domains for 1,140 fine-grained programming tasks. To evaluate LLMs rigorously, each programming task encompasses 5.6 test cases with an average branch coverage of 99%. In addition, we propose a natural-language-oriented variant of Bench, Benchi, that automatically transforms the original docstrings into short instructions only with essential information. Our extensive evaluation of 60 LLMs shows that LLMs are not yet capable of following complex instructions to use function calls precisely, with scores up to 60%, significantly lower than the human performance of 97%. In the dynamic landscape of contemporary business, the wave in data and technological advancements has directed companies toward embracing data-driven decision-making processes. Despite the vast potential that data holds for strategic insights and operational efficiencies, substantial challenges arise in the form of data issues. Recognizing these obstacles, the imperative for effective data governance (DG) becomes increasingly apparent. This research endeavors to bridge the gap in DG research within the Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) domain through a comprehensive literature review. Initially, we redefine DG through a synthesis of existing definitions, complemented by insights gained from DG practices. Subsequently, we delineate the constituent elements of DG. Building upon this foundation, we develop an analytical framework to scrutinize the collected literature from the perspectives of both OSCM and DG. Beyond a retrospective analysis, this study provides insights for future research directions. Moreover, this study also makes a valuable contribution to the industry, as the insights gained from the literature are directly applicable to real-world scenarios.

Large Language Models (LLMs) like OpenAI's GPT series, Anthropic's Claude, and Meta's LLaMa have shown remarkable capabilities in text generation. However, their susceptibility to toxic prompts presents significant security challenges. This paper investigates alignment techniques, including Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) and Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF), to mitigate these risks. We conduct an empirical study on refusal patterns across nine LLMs, revealing that models with uniform refusal patterns, such as Claude3, exhibit higher security. Based on these findings, we propose self-distilling and cross-model distilling methods to enhance LLM security. Our results show that these methods significantly improve refusal rates and reduce unsafe content, with cross-model distilling achieving refusal rates close to Claude3's 94.51%. These findings underscore the potential of distillation-based alignment in securing LLMs against toxic prompts.

Granger causality, commonly used for inferring causal structures from time series data, has been adopted in widespread applications across various fields due to its intuitive explainability and high compatibility with emerging deep neural network prediction models. To alleviate challenges in better deciphering causal structures unambiguously from time series, the use of interventional data has become a practical approach. However, existing methods have yet to be explored in the context of imperfect interventions with unknown targets, which are more common and often more beneficial in a wide range of real-world applications. Additionally, the identifiability issues of Granger causality with unknown interventional targets in complex network models remain unsolved. Our work presents a theoretically-grounded method that infers Granger causal structure and identifies unknown targets by leveraging heterogeneous interventional time series data. We further illustrate that learning Granger causal structure and recovering interventional targets can mutually promote each other. Extremal elastic materials here refer to a specific class of elastic materials whose elastic matrices exhibit one or more zero eigenvalues, resulting in soft deformation modes that, in principle, cost no energy. They can be approximated through artificially designed solid microstructures. Extremal elastic materials have exotic bulk wave properties unavailable with conventional solids due to the soft modes, offering unprecedented opportunities for manipulating bulk waves, e.g., acting as phonon polarizers for elastic waves or invisibility cloaks for underwater acoustic waves. Despite their potential, Rayleigh surface waves, crucially linked to bulk wave behaviors of such extremal elastic materials, have largely remained unexplored so far. In this paper, we theoretically investigate the propagation of Rayleigh waves in extremal elastic materials based on continuum theory and verify our findings with designed microstructure metamaterials based on pantographic structures. Dispersion relations and polarizations of Rayleigh waves in extremal elastic materials are derived, and the impact of higher order gradient effects is also investigated by using strain gradient theory. As a common image processing technique, image decomposition is often used to extract complementary information between modalities. In current decomposition-based image fusion methods, typically, source images are decomposed into three parts at single scale (i.e., visible-exclusive part, infrared-exclusive part, and common part) and lacking interaction between modalities during the decomposition process. These results in the inability of fusion images to effectively focus on finer complementary information between modalities at various scales. To address the above issue, a novel decomposition mechanism, Continuous Decomposition Fusion (CDeFuse), is proposed. Firstly, CDeFuse extends the original three-part decomposition to a more general K-part decomposition at each scale through similarity constraints to fuse multi-scale information and achieve a finer representation of decomposition features. Secondly, a Continuous Decomposition Module (CDM) is introduced to assist K-part decomposition. Its core component, State Transformer (ST), efficiently captures complementary information between modalities by utilizing multi-head self-attention mechanism. Finally, a novel decomposition loss function and the corresponding computational optimization strategy are utilized to ensure the smooth progress of the decomposition process while maintaining linear growth in time complexity with the number of decomposition results K. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our CDeFuse achieves comparable performance compared to previous methods. The code will be publicly available.

We consider the prediction of general tensor properties of crystalline materials, including dielectric, piezoelectric, and elastic tensors. A key challenge here is how to make the predictions satisfy the unique tensor equivariance to O(3) group and invariance to crystal space groups. To this end, we propose a General Materials Tensor Network (GMTNet), which is carefully designed to satisfy the required symmetries. To evaluate our method, we curate a dataset and establish evaluation metrics that are tailored to the intricacies of crystal tensor predictions. Experimental results show that our GMTNet not only achieves promising performance on crystal tensors of various orders but also generates predictions fully consistent with the intrinsic crystal symmetries. As one of the tasks in Image Fusion, Infrared and Visible Image Fusion aims to integrate complementary information captured by sensors of different modalities into a single image. The Selective State Space Model (SSSM), known for its ability to capture long-range dependencies, has demonstrated its potential in the field of computer vision. However, in image fusion, current methods underestimate the potential of SSSM in capturing the global spatial information of both modalities. This limitation prevents the simultaneous consideration of the global spatial information from both modalities during interaction, leading to a lack of comprehensive perception of salient targets. Consequently, the fusion results tend to bias towards one modality instead of adaptively preserving salient targets. To address this issue, we propose the Saliency-aware Selective State Space Fusion Model (S4Fusion). In our S4Fusion, the designed Cross-Modal Spatial Awareness Module (CMSA) can simultaneously focus on global spatial information from both modalities while facilitating their interaction, thereby comprehensively capturing complementary information. Additionally, S4Fusion leverages a pre-trained network to perceive uncertainty in the fused images. By minimizing this uncertainty, S4Fusion adaptively highlights salient targets from both images. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach produces high-quality images and enhances performance in downstream tasks.

Generative models are widely utilized to model the distribution of fused images in the field of infrared and visible image fusion. However, current generative models based fusion methods often suffer from unstable training and slow inference speed. To tackle this problem, a novel fusion method based on consistency model is proposed, termed as CoMoFusion, which can generate the high-quality images and achieve fast image inference speed. In specific, the consistency model is used to construct multi-modal joint features in the latent space with the forward and reverse process. Then, the infrared and visible features extracted by the trained consistency model are fed into fusion module to generate the final fused image. In order to enhance the texture and salient information of fused images, a novel loss based on pixel value selection is also designed. Extensive experiments on public datasets illustrate that our method obtains the SOTA fusion performance compared with the existing fusion methods.

In this work, we present an arbitrary-scale super-resolution (SR) method to enhance the resolution of scientific data, which often involves complex challenges such as continuity, multi-scale physics, and the intricacies of high-frequency signals. Grounded in operator learning, the proposed method is resolution-invariant. The core of our model is a hierarchical neural operator that leverages a Galerkin-type self-attention mechanism, enabling efficient learning of mappings between function spaces. Sinc filters are used to facilitate the information transfer across different levels in the hierarchy, thereby ensuring representation equivalence in the proposed neural operator. Additionally, we introduce a learnable prior structure that is derived from the spectral resizing of the input data. This loss prior is model-agnostic and is designed to dynamically adjust the weighting of pixel contributions, thereby balancing gradients effectively across the model. We conduct extensive experiments on diverse datasets from different domains and demonstrate consistent improvements compared to strong baselines, which consist of various state-of-the-art SR methods., Comment: 20 pages, 14 figures

Pre-trained Large Language Models (LLM) have achieved remarkable successes in several domains. However, code-oriented LLMs are heavy in computational complexity, and quadratically with the length of the input. Toward simplifying the input program of an LLM, the state-of-the-art approach has the strategies to filter the input code tokens based on the attention scores given by the LLM. The decision to simplify the input should not rely on the attention patterns of an LLM, as these patterns are influenced by both the model architecture and the pre-training dataset. Since the model and dataset are part of the solution domain, not the problem domain where the input belongs, the outcome may differ when the model is pre-trained on a different dataset. We propose SlimCode, a model-agnostic code simplification solution for LLMs that depends on the nature of input code tokens. As an empirical study on the LLMs including CodeBERT, CodeT5, and GPT-4 for two main tasks: code search and summarization, we reported that 1) the removal ratio of code has a linear-like relation with the saving ratio on training time, 2) the impact of categorized tokens on code simplification can vary significantly, 3) the impact of categorized tokens on code simplification is task-specific but model-agnostic, and 4) the above findings hold for the paradigm-prompt engineering and interactive in-context learning. The empirical results showed that SlimCode can improve the state-of-the-art technique by 9.46% and 5.15% in terms of MRR and BLEU score on code search and summarization. Moreover, SlimCode is 133 times faster than the state-of-the-art approach. Additionally, SlimCode can reduce the cost of invoking GPT-4 by up to 24% per API query, while still producing comparable results to those with the original code.

In the transformative landscape of smart cities, the integration of the cutting-edge web technologies into time series forecasting presents a pivotal opportunity to enhance urban planning, sustainability, and economic growth. The advancement of deep neural networks has significantly improved forecasting performance. However, a notable challenge lies in the ability of these models to generalize well to out-of-distribution (OOD) time series data. The inherent spatial heterogeneity and domain shifts across urban environments create hurdles that prevent models from adapting and performing effectively in new urban environments. To tackle this problem, we propose a solution to derive invariant representations for more robust predictions under different urban environments instead of relying on spurious correlation across urban environments for better generalizability. Through extensive experiments on both synthetic and real-world data, we demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms traditional time series forecasting models when tackling domain shifts in changing urban environments. Integrating large language models (LLMs) and knowledge graphs (KGs) holds great promise for revolutionizing intelligent education, but challenges remain in achieving personalization, interactivity, and explainability. We propose FOKE, a Forest Of Knowledge and Education framework that synergizes foundation models, knowledge graphs, and prompt engineering to address these challenges. FOKE introduces three key innovations: (1) a hierarchical knowledge forest for structured domain knowledge representation; (2) a multi-dimensional user profiling mechanism for comprehensive learner modeling; and (3) an interactive prompt engineering scheme for generating precise and tailored learning guidance. We showcase FOKE's application in programming education, homework assessment, and learning path planning, demonstrating its effectiveness and practicality. Additionally, we implement Scholar Hero, a real-world instantiation of FOKE. Our research highlights the potential of integrating foundation models, knowledge graphs, and prompt engineering to revolutionize intelligent education practices, ultimately benefiting learners worldwide. FOKE provides a principled and unified approach to harnessing cutting-edge AI technologies for personalized, interactive, and explainable educational services, paving the way for further research and development in this critical direction.

Quantum Hoare logic (QHL) is a formal verification tool specifically designed to ensure the correctness of quantum programs. There has been an ongoing challenge to achieve a relatively complete satisfaction-based QHL with while-loop since its inception in 2006. This paper presents a solution by proposing the first relatively complete satisfaction-based QHL with while-loop. The completeness is proved in two steps. First, we establish a semantics and proof system of Hoare triples with quantum programs and deterministic assertions. Then, by utilizing the weakest precondition of deterministic assertion, we construct the weakest preterm calculus of probabilistic expressions. The relative completeness of QHL is then obtained as a consequence of the weakest preterm calculus. Artificial Intelligence (AI) models have emerged as another important audience for programming languages alongside humans and machines, as we enter the era of large language models (LLMs). LLMs can now perform well in coding competitions and even write programs like developers to solve various tasks, including mathematical problems. However, the grammar and layout of current programs are designed to cater the needs of human developers -- with many grammar tokens and formatting tokens being used to make the code easier for humans to read. While this is helpful, such a design adds unnecessary computational work for LLMs, as each token they either use or produce consumes computational resources. To improve inference efficiency and reduce computational costs, we propose the concept of AI-oriented grammar. This aims to represent code in a way that better suits the working mechanism of AI models. Code written with AI-oriented grammar discards formats and uses a minimum number of tokens to convey code semantics effectively. To demonstrate the feasibility of this concept, we explore and implement the first AI-oriented grammar for Python, named SimPy. SimPy is crafted by revising the original Python grammar through a series of heuristic rules. Programs written in SimPy maintain identical AST structures to those in standard Python. This allows for not only execution via a modified AST parser, but also seamless transformation between programs written in Python and SimPy, enabling human developers and LLMs to use Python and SimPy, respectively, when they need to collaborate. In the experiments, compared with Python, SimPy enables a reduction in token usage by 13.5% and 10.4% for CodeLlama and GPT-4, respectively, when completing the same set of code-related tasks. This paper reviews the NTIRE 2024 low light image enhancement challenge, highlighting the proposed solutions and results. The aim of this challenge is to discover an effective network design or solution capable of generating brighter, clearer, and visually appealing results when dealing with a variety of conditions, including ultra-high resolution (4K and beyond), non-uniform illumination, backlighting, extreme darkness, and night scenes. A notable total of 428 participants registered for the challenge, with 22 teams ultimately making valid submissions. Crystal structures are characterized by atomic bases within a primitive unit cell that repeats along a regular lattice throughout 3D space. The periodic and infinite nature of crystals poses unique challenges for geometric graph representation learning. Specifically, constructing graphs that effectively capture the complete geometric information of crystals and handle chiral crystals remains an unsolved and challenging problem. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach that utilizes the periodic patterns of unit cells to establish the lattice-based representation for each atom, enabling efficient and expressive graph representations of crystals. Furthermore, we propose ComFormer, a SE(3) transformer designed specifically for crystalline materials. ComFormer includes two variants; namely, iComFormer that employs invariant geometric descriptors of Euclidean distances and angles, and eComFormer that utilizes equivariant vector representations. Experimental results demonstrate the state-of-the-art predictive accuracy of ComFormer variants on various tasks across three widely-used crystal benchmarks. Leveraging Transformer attention has led to great advancements in HDR deghosting. However, the intricate nature of self-attention introduces practical challenges, as existing state-of-the-art methods often demand high-end GPUs or exhibit slow inference speeds, especially for high-resolution images like 2K. Striking an optimal balance between performance and latency remains a critical concern. In response, this work presents PASTA, a novel Progressively Aggregated Spatio-Temporal Alignment framework for HDR deghosting. Our approach achieves effectiveness and efficiency by harnessing hierarchical representation during feature distanglement. Through the utilization of diverse granularities within the hierarchical structure, our method substantially boosts computational speed and optimizes the HDR imaging workflow. In addition, we explore within-scale feature modeling with local and global attention, gradually merging and refining them in a coarse-to-fine fashion. Experimental results showcase PASTA's superiority over current SOTA methods in both visual quality and performance metrics, accompanied by a substantial 3-fold (x3) increase in inference speed.

Automated Program Repair (APR) aims to automatically generate patches for rectifying software bugs. Recent strides in Large Language Models (LLM), such as ChatGPT, have yielded encouraging outcomes in APR, especially within the conversation-driven APR framework. Nevertheless, the efficacy of conversation-driven APR is contingent on the quality of the feedback information. In this paper, we propose ContrastRepair, a novel conversation-based APR approach that augments conversation-driven APR by providing LLMs with contrastive test pairs. A test pair consists of a failing test and a passing test, which offer contrastive feedback to the LLM. Our key insight is to minimize the difference between the generated passing test and the given failing test, which can better isolate the root causes of bugs. By providing informative and specific feedback, ContrastRepair enables the LLM to produce effective bug fixes. The implementation of ContrastRepair is based on the state-of-the-art LLM, ChatGPT, and it iteratively interacts with ChatGPT until plausible patches are generated. We evaluate ContrastRepair on multiple benchmark datasets, including Defects4j, QuixBugs, and HumanEval-Java. The results demonstrate that ContrastRepair significantly outperforms existing methods, achieving a new state-of-the-art in program repair. For instance, among Defects4j 1.2 and 2.0, ContrastRepair correctly repairs 143 out of all 337 bug cases, while the best-performing baseline fixes 124 bugs.

The martensitic transformation in NiTi-based Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) provides a basis for shape memory effect and superelasticity, thereby enabling applications requiring solid-state actuation and large recoverable shape changes upon mechanical load cycling. In order to tailor the transformation to a particular application, the compositional dependence of properties in NiTi-based SMAs, such as martensitic transformation temperatures and hysteresis, has been exploited. However, the compositional design space is large and complex, and experimental studies are expensive. In this work, we develop an interpretable piecewise linear regression model that predicts the $\lambda_2$ parameter, a measure of compatibility between austenite and martensite phases, and an (indirect) factor that is well-correlated with martensitic transformation hysteresis, based on the chemical features derived from the alloy composition. The model is capable of predicting, for the first time, the type of martensitic transformation for a given alloy chemistry. The proposed model is validated by experimental data from the literature as well as in-house measurements. The results show that the model can effectively distinguish between $B19$ and $B19^{\prime}$ regions for any given composition in NiTi-based SMAs and accurately estimate the $\lambda_2$ parameter. Our analysis also reveals that the weighted average of the quotient of the first ionization energy and the Voronoi coordination number is a key compositional characteristic that correlates with the $\lambda_2$ parameter and thermodynamic responses, including the transformation hysteresis, martensite start temperature, and critical temperature. The work herein demonstrates the potential of data-driven methodologies for understanding and designing NiTi-based SMAs with desired transformation characteristics.

The quark-gluon plasma (QGP) is a high temperature state of matter produced in the collisions of two nuclei at relativistic energies. The properties of this matter at short distance scales are probed using jets with high transverse momentum ($p_T$) resulting from quarks and gluons scattered with large momentum transfer in the earliest stages of the collisions. The Fourier harmonics for anisotropies in the high transverse momentum particle yield, $v_n(p_T)$, indicate the path length dependence of jet energy loss within the QGP. We present a framework to build off of measurements of jet energy loss using $v_n(p_T)$ by characterizing fluctuations in jet energy loss that are currently not constrained experimentally. In this paper, we utilize a set of multivariate moments and cumulants as new experimental observables to measure event-by-event fluctuations in the azimuthal anisotropies of rare probes, and compare them to the azimuthal anisotropies of soft particles. Ultimately, these fluctuations can be used to quantify the magnitude and fluctuations of event-by-event jet energy loss. This paper aims to analyze errors in the implementation of the Physics-Informed Neural Network (PINN) for solving the Allen--Cahn (AC) and Cahn--Hilliard (CH) partial differential equations (PDEs). The accuracy of PINN is still challenged when dealing with strongly non-linear and higher-order time-varying PDEs. To address this issue, we introduce a stable and bounded self-adaptive weighting scheme known as Residuals-RAE, which ensures fair training and effectively captures the solution. By incorporating this new training loss function, we conduct numerical experiments on 1D and 2D AC and CH systems to validate our theoretical findings. Our theoretical analysis demonstrates that feedforward neural networks with two hidden layers and tanh activation function effectively bound the PINN approximation errors for the solution field, temporal derivative, and nonlinear term of the AC and CH equations by the training loss and number of collocation points.

Best subset selection is considered the `gold standard' for many sparse learning problems. A variety of optimization techniques have been proposed to attack this non-smooth non-convex problem. In this paper, we investigate the dual forms of a family of $\ell_0$-regularized problems. An efficient primal-dual algorithm is developed based on the primal and dual problem structures. By leveraging the dual range estimation along with the incremental strategy, our algorithm potentially reduces redundant computation and improves the solutions of best subset selection. Maximizing a target variable as an operational objective in a structural causal model is an important problem. Existing Causal Bayesian Optimization~(CBO) methods either rely on hard interventions that alter the causal structure to maximize the reward; or introduce action nodes to endogenous variables so that the data generation mechanisms are adjusted to achieve the objective. In this paper, a novel method is introduced to learn the distribution of exogenous variables, which is typically ignored or marginalized through expectation by existing methods. Exogenous distribution learning improves the approximation accuracy of structural causal models in a surrogate model that is usually trained with limited observational data. Moreover, the learned exogenous distribution extends existing CBO to general causal schemes beyond Additive Noise Models~(ANM). The recovery of exogenous variables allows us to use a more flexible prior for noise or unobserved hidden variables. We develop a new CBO method by leveraging the learned exogenous distribution. Experiments on different datasets and applications show the benefits of our proposed method.

Singing voice conversion (SVC) automates song covers by converting one singer's singing voice into another target singer's singing voice with the original lyrics and melody. However, it raises serious concerns about copyright and civil right infringements to multiple entities. This work proposes SongBsAb, the first proactive approach to mitigate unauthorized SVC-based illegal song covers. SongBsAb introduces human-imperceptible perturbations to singing voices before releasing them, so that when they are used, the generation process of SVC will be interfered, resulting in unexpected singing voices. SongBsAb features a dual prevention effect by causing both (singer) identity disruption and lyric disruption, namely, the SVC-covered singing voice neither imitates the target singer nor preserves the original lyrics. To improve the imperceptibility of perturbations, we refine a psychoacoustic model-based loss with the backing track as an additional masker, a unique accompanying element for singing voices compared to ordinary speech voices. To enhance the transferability, we propose to utilize a frame-level interaction reduction-based loss. We demonstrate the prevention effectiveness, utility, and robustness of SongBsAb on three SVC models and two datasets using both objective and human study-based subjective metrics. Our work fosters an emerging research direction for mitigating illegal automated song covers.

World is looking for clean and renewable energy sources that do not pollute the environment, in an attempt to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming. Wind energy has significant potential to not only reduce greenhouse emission, but also meet the ever increasing demand for energy. To enable the effective utilization of wind energy, addressing the following three challenges in wind data analysis is crucial. Firstly, improving data resolution in various climate conditions to ensure an ample supply of information for assessing potential energy resources. Secondly, implementing dimensionality reduction techniques for data collected from sensors/simulations to efficiently manage and store large datasets. Thirdly, extrapolating wind data from one spatial specification to another, particularly in cases where data acquisition may be impractical or costly. We propose a deep learning based approach to achieve multi-modal continuous resolution wind data prediction from discontinuous wind data, along with data dimensionality reduction.

Large Language Models (LLMs) have become increasingly popular for their advanced text generation capabilities across various domains. However, like any software, they face security challenges, including the risk of 'jailbreak' attacks that manipulate LLMs to produce prohibited content. A particularly underexplored area is the Multilingual Jailbreak attack, where malicious questions are translated into various languages to evade safety filters. Currently, there is a lack of comprehensive empirical studies addressing this specific threat. To address this research gap, we conducted an extensive empirical study on Multilingual Jailbreak attacks. We developed a novel semantic-preserving algorithm to create a multilingual jailbreak dataset and conducted an exhaustive evaluation on both widely-used open-source and commercial LLMs, including GPT-4 and LLaMa. Additionally, we performed interpretability analysis to uncover patterns in Multilingual Jailbreak attacks and implemented a fine-tuning mitigation method. Our findings reveal that our mitigation strategy significantly enhances model defense, reducing the attack success rate by 96.2%. This study provides valuable insights into understanding and mitigating Multilingual Jailbreak attacks.

In recent times, a plethora of Large Code Generation Models (LCGMs) have been proposed, showcasing significant potential in assisting developers with complex programming tasks. Benchmarking LCGMs necessitates the creation of a set of diverse programming problems, and each problem comprises the prompt (including the task description), canonical solution, and test inputs. The existing methods for constructing such a problem set can be categorized into two main types: manual methods and perturbation-based methods. However, manual methods demand high effort and lack scalability, while also risking data integrity due to LCGMs' potentially contaminated data collection, and perturbation-based approaches mainly generate semantically homogeneous problems with the same canonical solutions and introduce typos that can be easily auto-corrected by IDE, making them ineffective and unrealistic. In this work, we propose the idea of programming problem merging (PPM) and provide two implementation of this idea, we utilize our tool on two widely-used datasets and compare it against nine baseline methods using eight code generation models. Timely, personalized feedback is essential for students learning programming. LLM-powered tools like ChatGPT offer instant support, but reveal direct answers with code, which may hinder deep conceptual engagement. We developed CodeAid, an LLM-powered programming assistant delivering helpful, technically correct responses, without revealing code solutions. CodeAid answers conceptual questions, generates pseudo-code with line-by-line explanations, and annotates student's incorrect code with fix suggestions. We deployed CodeAid in a programming class of 700 students for a 12-week semester. A thematic analysis of 8,000 usages of CodeAid was performed, further enriched by weekly surveys, and 22 student interviews. We then interviewed eight programming educators to gain further insights. Collecting relevant and high-quality data is integral to the development of effective Software Vulnerability (SV) prediction models. Most of the current SV datasets rely on SV-fixing commits to extract vulnerable functions and lines. However, none of these datasets have considered latent SVs existing between the introduction and fix of the collected SVs. There is also little known about the usefulness of these latent SVs for SV prediction. To bridge these gaps, we conduct a large-scale study on the latent vulnerable functions in two commonly used SV datasets and their utilization for function-level and line-level SV predictions. Leveraging the state-of-the-art SZZ algorithm, we identify more than 100k latent vulnerable functions in the studied datasets. We find that these latent functions can increase the number of SVs by 4x on average and correct up to 5k mislabeled functions, yet they have a noise level of around 6%. Despite the noise, we show that the state-of-the-art SV prediction model can significantly benefit from such latent SVs. The improvements are up to 24.5% in the performance (F1-Score) of function-level SV predictions and up to 67% in the effectiveness of localizing vulnerable lines.
