Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs) have demonstrated remarkable capabilities across a range of multimodal tasks. However, their inference efficiency is constrained by the large number of visual tokens processed during decoding. To address this challenge, we propose Per-Layer Per-Head Vision Token Pruning (PLPHP), a two-level fine-grained pruning method including Layer-Level Retention Rate Allocation and Head-Level Vision Token Pruning. Motivated by the Vision Token Re-attention phenomenon across decoder layers, we dynamically adjust token retention rates layer by layer. Layers that exhibit stronger attention to visual information preserve more vision tokens, while layers with lower vision attention are aggressively pruned. Furthermore, PLPHP applies pruning at the attention head level, enabling different heads within the same layer to independently retain critical context. Experiments on multiple benchmarks demonstrate that PLPHP delivers an 18% faster decoding speed and reduces the Key-Value Cache (KV Cache) size by over 50%, all at the cost of 0.46% average performance drop, while also achieving notable performance improvements in multi-image tasks. These results highlight the effectiveness of fine-grained token pruning and contribute to advancing the efficiency and scalability of LVLMs. Our source code will be made publicly available., Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures

Phased array antennas (PAAs) possessing broadband beamforming capabilities are crucial for advanced radar and wireless communication systems. Nevertheless, traditional phase-shifter-based PAA beamformers frequently encounter the beam-squint issue, which substantially restricts their instantaneous bandwidth. Photonic true-time-delay (TTD) beamformers have the potential to overcome this challenge, offering ultrawide bandwidth and immunity to electromagnetic interference. However, their practical application is impeded by the high complexity, which typically involves a vast array of optical switches and delay lines. Here, we introduce a novel frequency-comb-steered photonic quasi-TTD beamformer that eliminates the need for delay lines by leveraging the concepts of frequency-diverse arrays and photonic microwave mixing arrays. This beamformer enables squint-free beamforming of ultrawideband linear frequency modulation waveforms, which is essential for high-resolution radar applications. It ensures seamless and continuous beam steering, effectively delivering infinite spatial resolution. We present a prototype with an 8-element PAA, demonstrating an instantaneous bandwidth of 6 GHz across the entire Ku-band. Additionally, we explore the system's capabilities in integrated inverse synthetic aperture radar imaging and high-speed communication, achieving a high imaging resolution of 2.6 cm * 3.0 cm and a transmission rate of 3 Gbps. As waves propagate through a complex medium, they undergo multiple scattering events. This phenomenon is detrimental to imaging, as it causes a full blurring of the image beyond a transport mean free path. Here, we show how to detect, localize, and characterize any scattering target through the reflection matrix of the complex medium in which this target is embedded and thus hidden from direct view. More precisely, we introduce a fingerprint operator that contains the specific signature of the target with respect to its environment. Applied to the recorded reflection matrix, this operator provides a likelihood index of the target in any given state, despite the scattering fog induced by the surrounding environment. This state can be the target position for localization purposes, its shape for characterization, or any other parameter that influences the target response. Our concept is versatile and broadly applicable to different type of waves for which multi-element technology allows a reflection matrix to be measured. By applying Fourier transformations to the natural orthogonal oscillator representations of special linear Lie algebras, Luo and the second author (2013) obtained a large family of infinite-dimensional irreducible representations of the algebras on the homogeneous solutions of the Laplace equation. In our earlier work, we proved that the associated varieties of these irreducible representations are the intersection of determinantal varieties. In this paper, we find the Hilbert polynomial $\mathfrak p_{ M}(k)$ of these associated varieties. Moreover, we show that the Hilbert polynomial $\mathfrak p_{ M, {M_0}}(k)$ of such an irreducible module $M$ with respect to any generating subspace $M_0$ satisfies $\mathfrak p_{_M}(k)\leq \mathfrak p_{ M, {M_0}}(k)$ for sufficiently large positive integer $k$ and find a necessary and sufficient condition that the equality holds. Furthermore, we explicitly determine the leading term of $\mathfrak p_{ M, {M_0}}(k)$, which is independent of the choice of $M_0$.

An efficient advanced numerical model for mapping the distribution of the buried tree roots is presented. It not only simplify the complicate root branches to an easy manipulated model, but also grasp the main structure of tree roots ignoring the unnecessary minutiae, and thus provide an intuitive impression of subsurface invisible anomalies. The processing model is combined with an adaptive finite element method, which can automatically generate unstructured triangular meshes during the process of discretization, which also enable user to specifically set the resistivity along each part of tree roots.

Symmetry elegantly governs the fundamental properties and derived functionalities of condensed matter. For instance, realizing the superconducting diode effect (SDE) demands breaking space-inversion and time-reversal symmetries simultaneously. Although the SDE is widely observed in various platforms, its underlying mechanism remains debated, particularly regarding the role of vortices. Here, we systematically investigate the nonreciprocal transport in the chiral type-I superconductor NbGe2. Moreover, we induce type-II superconductivity with elevated superconducting critical temperature on the artificial surface by focused ion beam irradiation, enabling control over vortex dynamics in NbGe2 devices. Strikingly, we observe negligible diode efficiency (Q < 2%) at low magnetic fields, which rises significantly to Q ~ 50% at high magnetic fields, coinciding with an abrupt increase in vortex creep rate when the superconductivity of NbGe2 bulk is suppressed. These results unambiguously highlight the critical role of vortex dynamics in the SDE, in addition to the established symmetry rules.

The measurement of cosmological distances using baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) is crucial for studying the universe's expansion. The Chinese Space Station Telescope (CSST) galaxy redshift survey, with its vast volume and sky coverage, provides an opportunity to address key challenges in cosmology. However, redshift uncertainties in galaxy surveys can degrade both angular and radial distance estimates. In this study, we forecast the precision of BAO distance measurements using mock CSST galaxy samples, applying a two-point correlation function (2PCF) wedge approach to mitigate redshift errors. We simulate redshift uncertainties of $\sigma_0 = 0.003$ and $\sigma_0 = 0.006$, representative of expected CSST errors, and examine their effects on the BAO peak and distance scaling factors, $\alpha_\perp$ and $\alpha_\parallel$, across redshift bins within $0.0 < z \leqslant 1.0$. The wedge 2PCF method proves more effective in detecting the BAO peak compared to the monopole 2PCF, particularly for $\sigma_0 = 0.006$. Constraints on the BAO peaks show that $\alpha_\perp$ is well constrained around 1.0, regardless of $\sigma_0$, with precision between 1% and 3% across redshift bins. In contrast, $\alpha_\parallel$ measurements are more sensitive to increases in $\sigma_0$. For $\sigma_0 = 0.003$, the results remain close to the fiducial value, with uncertainties ranging between 4% and 9%; for $\sigma_0 = 0.006$, significant deviations from the fiducial value are observed. We propose a photon-recycling dielectric laser accelerator (DLA) system based on silicon photonic device. Our DLA system employs guided electromagnetic waves as a primary energy source, modulated to inject into the electron-light interaction region to accelerate or modulate electron beams and recycled the energy for the next round-trip. Long-distance acceleration takes place as electrons interact with the pre-modulated light field. Our loop recycles post-interaction light field, enabling photons reuse across successive cycles. To optimize the interaction process, we developed an adaptive algorithm to refine waveguide structures, and identified an "optimal waveguide accelerator" with superior performance on our dataset. We find that the optimized DLA loop only requires low-power light injection to sufficiently sustain high acceleration gradients for continuous electron beams. Under optimal electron beam intensity, the system achieves exceptionally high photon utilization, ensuring that nearly all injected light power transferred to electrons. Using spectral analysis, we demonstrate that the optimal waveguide also operates as an electron energy filter, selecting and manipulating phase-matched electrons over a broad energy range, even for quantum electron wavefunction shaping. Our photon-recycling DLA setup is not only suitable for low-energy beam accelerators, but also offers versatility as a beam filter or a narrow energy selection combined with other optical elements, the total setup can be further applied to explore free electron quantum optics engaging with the advancing field of photonic integrated circuits., Comment: 27 pages, 5+2 figures, 1 table

We discuss the landscape of flavor physics at the Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC), based on the nominal luminosity outlined in its Technical Design Report. The CEPC is designed to operate in multiple modes to address a variety of tasks. At the $Z$ pole, the expected production of 4 Tera $Z$ bosons will provide unique and highly precise measurements of $Z$ boson couplings, while the substantial number of boosted heavy-flavored quarks and leptons produced in clean $Z$ decays will facilitate investigations into their flavor physics with unprecedented precision. We investigate the prospects of measuring various physics benchmarks and discuss their implications for particle theories and phenomenological models. Our studies indicate that, with its highlighted advantages and anticipated excellent detector performance, the CEPC can explore beauty and $\tau$ physics in ways that are superior to or complementary with the Belle II and Large-Hadron-Collider-beauty experiments, potentially enabling the detection of new physics at energy scales of 10 TeV and above. This potential also extends to the observation of yet-to-be-discovered rare and exotic processes, as well as testing fundamental principles such as lepton flavor universality, lepton and baryon number conservation, etc., making the CEPC a vibrant platform for flavor physics research. The $WW$ threshold scan, Higgs-factory operation and top-pair productions of the CEPC further enhance its merits in this regard, especially for measuring the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements, and Flavor-Changing-Neutral-Current physics of Higgs boson and top quarks. We outline the requirements for detector performance and considerations for future development to achieve the anticipated scientific goals.

Diffusion Probabilistic Models (DPMs) have emerged as the de facto approach for high-fidelity image synthesis, operating diffusion processes on continuous VAE latent, which significantly differ from the text generation methods employed by Large Language Models (LLMs). In this paper, we introduce a novel generative framework, the Recurrent Diffusion Probabilistic Model (RDPM), which enhances the diffusion process through a recurrent token prediction mechanism, thereby pioneering the field of Discrete Diffusion. By progressively introducing Gaussian noise into the latent representations of images and encoding them into vector-quantized tokens in a recurrent manner, RDPM facilitates a unique diffusion process on discrete-value domains. This process iteratively predicts the token codes for subsequent timesteps, transforming the initial standard Gaussian noise into the source data distribution, aligning with GPT-style models in terms of the loss function. RDPM demonstrates superior performance while benefiting from the speed advantage of requiring only a few inference steps. This model not only leverages the diffusion process to ensure high-quality generation but also converts continuous signals into a series of high-fidelity discrete tokens, thereby maintaining a unified optimization strategy with other discrete tokens, such as text. We anticipate that this work will contribute to the development of a unified model for multimodal generation, specifically by integrating continuous signal domains such as images, videos, and audio with text. Mean kurtosis in iron-rich grey matter has values similar to that seen in white matter. We suspect these elevated values may be related to iron. Multi-shell diffusion and multi-echo gradient echo acquisitions were used to derive mean kurtosis and R2*, respectively. Mean kurtosis and R2* were measured in subcortical grey matter nuclei and white matter tracts in 93 older adults and 62 younger adults. Grey matter regions exhibited higher mean kurtosis and R2* in the older adult group whereas white matter regions had reduced mean kurtosis in the older adult group. Grey matter mean kurtosis was significantly correlated with R2* iron-rich grey matter nuclei in both groups. Our findings indicate that higher mean kurtosis in iron-rich grey matter structures may be due to either increased tissue complexity or to decreases in signal-to-noise ratios from iron deposition, Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, 2 Tables

We have conducted a comprehensive investigation into the magnetic properties of the chiral multiferroic material CoTeMoO$_6$. In contrast with the previous claim of canted antiferromagnetic order with ferromagnetic components, our investigation reveals an antiferromagnetic ground state with compensated moments, providing an interesting platform for exploring exotic material properties. Through careful measurements of magnetization under a series of applied field, we demonstrate that there exist two sequential field-induced magnetic transitions in CoTeMoO$_6$, with one occurring at $H_{c1}$=460 Oe along the a-axis, and the other at $H_{c2}$=1.16 T with the field along the b-axis. The values of $H_{c1}$ and $H_{c2}$ exhibit strong angular dependence and diverge with different rates as the applied field is rotated 90 degrees within the ab plane. This reflects the distinct nature of these transitions, which is further supported by the different critical behavior of $H_{c1}$ and $H_{c2}$, characterized by the values of $\gamma$,in the function of $H_c=H_0\times(1-\frac{T}{T_c})^n$. Furthermore, we have demonstrated that there exist structural and magnetic twin domains in CoTeMoO$_6$ that strongly affect the experimental measurement of their macroscopic properties. Intriguingly, these twin domains can be related to the orthorhombicity/chirality of the crystal structure with the space group $P2_1 2_1 2$. We further explored the magnetic and structural domains with uniaxial pressure and polarized light microscopy. Our results suggest that CoTeMoO$_6$ could be used as a unique platform for investigating the intriguing physics involving intertwined degrees of freedom. Associated varieties are geometric objects appearing in infinite-dimensional representations of semisimple Lie algebras (groups). By applying Fourier transformations to the natural orthogonal oscillator representations of special linear Lie algebras, Luo and the second author (2013) obtained a big family of infinite-dimensional irreducible representations of the algebras on certain spaces of homogeneous solutions of the Laplace equation. In this paper, we prove that the associated varieties of these irreducible representations are the intersections of explicitly given determinantal varieties. This provides an explicit connection among representation theory, partial differential equations and algebraic geometry.

This paper investigates the pathwise uniform convergence in probability of fully discrete finite-element approximations for the two-dimensional stochastic Navier-Stokes equations with multiplicative noise, subject to no-slip boundary conditions. We demonstrate that the full discretization achieves nearly $ 3/2$-order convergence in space and nearly half-order convergence in time.

Large-scale generative models have achieved remarkable advancements in various visual tasks, yet their application to shadow removal in images remains challenging. These models often generate diverse, realistic details without adequate focus on fidelity, failing to meet the crucial requirements of shadow removal, which necessitates precise preservation of image content. In contrast to prior approaches that aimed to regenerate shadow-free images from scratch, this paper utilizes diffusion models to generate and refine image residuals. This strategy fully uses the inherent detailed information within shadowed images, resulting in a more efficient and faithful reconstruction of shadow-free content. Additionally, to revent the accumulation of errors during the generation process, a crosstimestep self-enhancement training strategy is proposed. This strategy leverages the network itself to augment the training data, not only increasing the volume of data but also enabling the network to dynamically correct its generation trajectory, ensuring a more accurate and robust output. In addition, to address the loss of original details in the process of image encoding and decoding of large generative models, a content-preserved encoder-decoder structure is designed with a control mechanism and multi-scale skip connections to achieve high-fidelity shadow-free image reconstruction. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can reproduce high-quality results based on a large latent diffusion prior and faithfully preserve the original contents in shadow regions., Comment: 13pages, 10 figures

This paper develops an hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) finite element method of arbitrary order for the steady thermally coupled incompressible Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) flow. The HDG scheme uses piecewise polynomials of degrees $k(k\geq 1),k,k-1,k-1$, and $k$ respectively for the approximations of the velocity, the magnetic field, the pressure, the magnetic pseudo-pressure, and the temperature in the interior of elements, and uses piecewise polynomials of degree $k$ for their numerical traces on the interfaces of elements. The method is shown to yield globally divergence-free approximations of the velocity and magnetic fields. Existence and uniqueness results for the discrete scheme are given and optimal a priori error estimates are derived. In this paper, we consider mixed finite element semi-/full discretizations of the Rosensweig ferrofluid flow model. We first establish some regularity results for the model under several basic assumptions. Then we show that the energy stability of the weak solutions is preserved exactly for both the semi-discrete and fully discrete finite element solutions. Moreover, we prove the existence and uniqueness of the discrete solutions. We also derive optimal error estimates for the discrete schemes. Finally, we provide numerical experiments to verify the theoretical results.

We investigate the persistency of quasi-periodic solutions to multi-dimensional nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equations (NLS) involving Gevrey smooth nonlinearity with an arbitrary Gevrey index $\alpha>1$. By applying the Craig-Wayne-Bourgain (CWB) method, we establish the existence of quasi-periodic solutions that are Gevrey smooth with the same Gevrey index as the nonlinearity.

In this paper, we develop a second-order, fully decoupled, and energy-stable numerical scheme for the Cahn-Hilliard-Navier-Stokes model for two phase flow with variable density and viscosity. We propose a new decoupling Constant Scalar Auxiliary Variable (D-CSAV) method which is easy to generalize to schemes with high order accuracy in time. The method is designed using the "zero-energy-contribution" property while maintaining conservative time discretization for the "non-zero-energy-contribution" terms. Our algorithm simplifies to solving three independent linear elliptic systems per time step, two of them with constant coefficients. The update of all scalar auxiliary variables is explicit and decoupled from solving the phase field variable and velocity field. We rigorously prove unconditional energy stability of the scheme and perform extensive benchmark simulations to demonstrate accuracy and efficiency of the method.

This paper develops and analyzes a class of semi-discrete and fully discrete weak Galerkin finite element methods for unsteady incompressible convective Brinkman-Forchheimer equations. For the spatial discretization, the methods adopt the piecewise polynomials of degrees $m\ (m\geq1)$ and $m-1$ respectively to approximate the velocity and pressure inside the elements, and piecewise polynomials of degree $m$ to approximate their numerical traces on the interfaces of elements. In the fully discrete method, the backward Euler difference scheme is used to approximate the time derivative. The methods are shown to yield globally divergence-free velocity approximation. Optimal a priori error estimates in the energy norm and $L^2$ norm are established. A convergent linearized iterative algorithm is designed for solving the fully discrete system. Due to the nonlocal feature of fractional differential operators, the numerical solution to fractional partial differential equations usually requires expensive memory and computation costs. This paper develops a fast scheme for fractional viscoelastic models of wave propagation. We first apply the Laplace transform to convert the time-fractional constitutive equation into an integro-differential form that involves the Mittag-Leffler function as a convolution kernel. Then we construct an efficient sum-of-exponentials (SOE) approximation for the Mittag-Leffler function. We use mixed finite elements for the spatial discretization and the Newmark scheme for the temporal discretization of the second time-derivative of the displacement variable in the kinematical equation and finally obtain the fast algorithm. Compared with the traditional L1 scheme for time fractional derivative, our fast scheme reduces the memory complexity from $\mathcal O(N_sN) $ to $\mathcal O(N_sN_{exp})$ and the computation complexity from $\mathcal O(N_sN^2)$ to $\mathcal O(N_sN_{exp}N)$, where $N$ denotes the total number of temporal grid points, $N_{exp}$ is the number of exponentials in SOE, and $N_s$ represents the complexity of memory and computation related to the spatial discretization. Numerical experiments confirm the theoretical results.

Two-dimensional (2D) multiferroic heterostructures present a promising platform for advanced spin devices by leveraging the coexisting ferromagnetic (FM) and ferroelectric (FE) orders. Through first-principles calculations and micromagnetic simulations, we reveal non-volatile control of metallicity and topological spin textures in the Cr2Ge2Te6/Hf2Ge2Te6(CGT/HGT) heterostructure. Notably, manipulating ferroelectric polarization in HGT significantly modulates the magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) of CGT/HGT, reversing the easy magnetization axis from in-plane to out-of-plane. By analyzing the atomic-resolved SOC energy (\Delta Esoc), it is found that the cause of the change comes from the Fert-Levy mechanism. Additionally, this polarization control enables the creation and annihilation of bimerons and skyrmions, with interlayer sliding further altering magnetic ordering. Our findings offer valuable insights into magnetoelectric coupling and spin texture manipulation in 2D magnets, highlighting their potential for next-generation spintronic and memory devices., Comment: 9 pages,5 figures

Recent advances in machine learning have paved the way for the development of musical and entertainment robots. However, human-robot cooperative instrument playing remains a challenge, particularly due to the intricate motor coordination and temporal synchronization. In this paper, we propose a theoretical framework for human-robot cooperative piano playing based on non-verbal cues. First, we present a music improvisation model that employs a recurrent neural network (RNN) to predict appropriate chord progressions based on the human's melodic input. Second, we propose a behavior-adaptive controller to facilitate seamless temporal synchronization, allowing the cobot to generate harmonious acoustics. The collaboration takes into account the bidirectional information flow between the human and robot. We have developed an entropy-based system to assess the quality of cooperation by analyzing the impact of different communication modalities during human-robot collaboration. Experiments demonstrate that our RNN-based improvisation can achieve a 93\% accuracy rate. Meanwhile, with the MPC adaptive controller, the robot could respond to the human teammate in homophony performances with real-time accompaniment. Histopathology analysis is the gold standard for medical diagnosis. Accurate classification of whole slide images (WSIs) and region-of-interests (ROIs) localization can assist pathologists in diagnosis. The gigapixel resolution of WSI and the absence of fine-grained annotations make direct classification and analysis challenging. In weakly supervised learning, multiple instance learning (MIL) presents a promising approach for WSI classification. The prevailing strategy is to use attention mechanisms to measure instance importance for classification. However, attention mechanisms fail to capture inter-instance information, and self-attention causes quadratic computational complexity. To address these challenges, we propose AMD-MIL, an agent aggregator with a mask denoise mechanism. The agent token acts as an intermediate variable between the query and key for computing instance importance. Mask and denoising matrices, mapped from agents-aggregated value, dynamically mask low-contribution representations and eliminate noise. AMD-MIL achieves better attention allocation by adjusting feature representations, capturing micro-metastases in cancer, and improving interpretability. Extensive experiments on CAMELYON-16, CAMELYON-17, TCGA-KIDNEY, and TCGA-LUNG show AMD-MIL's superiority over state-of-the-art methods.

Rapid advancements have been made in extending Large Language Models (LLMs) to Large Multi-modal Models (LMMs). However, extending input modality of LLMs to video data remains a challenging endeavor, especially for long videos. Due to insufficient access to large-scale high-quality video data and the excessive compression of visual features, current methods exhibit limitations in effectively processing long videos. In this paper, we introduce Kangaroo, a powerful Video LMM aimed at addressing these challenges. Confronted with issue of inadequate training data, we develop a data curation system to build a large-scale dataset with high-quality annotations for vision-language pre-training and instruction tuning. In addition, we design a curriculum training pipeline with gradually increasing resolution and number of input frames to accommodate long videos. Evaluation results demonstrate that, with 8B parameters, Kangaroo achieves state-of-the-art performance across a variety of video understanding benchmarks while exhibiting competitive results on others. Particularly, on benchmarks specialized for long videos, Kangaroo excels some larger models with over 10B parameters and proprietary models.

In magnetically ordered insulators, elementary quasiparticles manifest as spin waves - collective motions of localized magnetic moments propagating through the lattice - observed via inelastic neutron scattering. In effective spin-1/2 systems where geometric frustrations suppress static magnetic order, spin excitation continua can emerge, either from degenerate classical spin ground states or from entangled quantum spins characterized by emergent gauge fields and deconfined fractionalized excitations. Comparing the spin Hamiltonian with theoretical models can unveil the microscopic origins of these zero-field spin excitation continua. Here, we use neutron scattering to study spin excitations of the two-dimensional (2D) triangular-lattice effective spin-1/2 antiferromagnet CeMgAl11O19. Analyzing the spin waves in the field-polarized ferromagnetic state, we find that the spin Hamiltonian is close to an exactly solvable 2D triangular-lattice XXZ model, where degenerate 120$^\circ$ ordered ground states - umbrella states - develop in the zero temperature limit. We then find that the observed zero-field spin excitation continuum matches the calculated ensemble of spin waves from the umbrella state manifold, and thus conclude that CeMgAl11O19 is the first example of an exactly solvable spin liquid on a triangular lattice where the spin excitation continuum arises from the ground state degeneracy., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures

We consider the Cauchy problem ($\mathbb{R}^d, d=2,3$) and the initial boundary values problem ($\mathbb{T}^d, d=2,3$)associated to the compressible Oldroyd-B model which is first derived by Barrett, Lu and S\"{u}li [Existence of large-data finite-energy global weak solutions to a compressible Oldroyd-B model, Commun. Math. Sci., 15 (2017), 1265--1323] through micro-macro-analysis of the compressible Navier-Stokes-Fokker-Planck system.Due to lack of stress diffusion, the problems considered here are very difficult. Data depth has emerged as an invaluable nonparametric measure for the ranking of multivariate samples. The main contribution of depth-based two-sample comparisons is the introduction of the Q statistic (Liu and Singh, 1993), a quality index. Unlike traditional methods, data depth does not require the assumption of normal distributions and adheres to four fundamental properties. Many existing two-sample homogeneity tests, which assess mean and/or scale changes in distributions often suffer from low statistical power or indeterminate asymptotic distributions. To overcome these challenges, we introduced a DEEPEAST (depth-explored same-attraction sample-to-sample central-outward ranking) technique for improving statistical power in two-sample tests via the same-attraction function. We proposed two novel and powerful depth-based test statistics: the sum test statistic and the product test statistic, which are rooted in Q statistics, share a "common attractor" and are applicable across all depth functions. We further proved the asymptotic distribution of these statistics for various depth functions. To assess the performance of power gain, we apply three depth functions: Mahalanobis depth (Liu and Singh, 1993), Spatial depth (Brown, 1958; Gower, 1974), and Projection depth (Liu, 1992). Through two-sample simulations, we have demonstrated that our sum and product statistics exhibit superior power performance, utilizing a strategic block permutation algorithm and compare favourably with popular methods in literature. Our tests are further validated through analysis on Raman spectral data, acquired from cellular and tissue samples, highlighting the effectiveness of the proposed tests highlighting the effective discrimination between health and cancerous samples.

In this paper, we are concerned with the initial boundary values problem associated to the compressible viscous non-resistive and heat-conducting magnetohydrodynamic flow, where the magnetic field is vertical. More precisely, by exploiting the intrinsic structure of the system and introducing several new unknown quantities, we overcome the difficulty stemming from the lack of dissipation for density and magnetic field, and prove the global well-posedness of strong solutions in the framework of Soboles spaces $H^3$. In addition, we also get the exponential decay for this non-resistive system. In this paper, we consider the full compressible, viscous, non-resistive MHD system under the assumption that the fluids move on a plane while the magnetic field is oriented vertically. Within the framework of Besov spaces, by introducing several new unknown quantities and exploiting the intrinsic structure of the system, we prove the global well-posedness of strong solutions for initial data close to a constant equilibrium state. Furthermore, under some suitable additional conditions involving only the low-frequency part of the initial perturbation, we develop a Lyapunov-type energy argument, which yields the optimal time-decay rates of the global solution. Complex behavioral contagion in collective evasion of mobile animal groups can be predicted by reconstructing quantitative interaction networks. Based on the assumption of time-scale separation between a fast contagion process and a slower movement response, the underlying interaction networks have been previously assumed to be static, determined by the spatial structure at the onset of the collective escape response. This idealization does not account for the temporal evolution of the spatial network structure, which may have a major impact on the behavioral contagion dynamics. Here, we propose a spatially-explicit, agent-based model for the coupling between behavioral contagion and the network dynamics originating from the spreading movement response. We explore the impact of movement parameters (startle speed, initial directionality, and directional noise) on average cascade size. By conducting numerical simulations for different density levels, we show that increasing escape speed suppresses the cascade size in most cases, that the cascade size depends strongly on the movement direction of the initially startled individual, and that large variability in the direction of individual escape movements (rotational noise) will typically promote the spread of behavioral contagion through spatial groups. Our work highlights the importance of accounting for movement dynamics in behavioral contagion, and facilitates our understanding of rapid coordinated response and collective information processing in animal groups.

Multimodal emotion recognition in conversation (MERC) has garnered substantial research attention recently. Existing MERC methods face several challenges: (1) they fail to fully harness direct inter-modal cues, possibly leading to less-than-thorough cross-modal modeling; (2) they concurrently extract information from the same and different modalities at each network layer, potentially triggering conflicts from the fusion of multi-source data; (3) they lack the agility required to detect dynamic sentimental changes, perhaps resulting in inaccurate classification of utterances with abrupt sentiment shifts. To address these issues, a novel approach named GraphSmile is proposed for tracking intricate emotional cues in multimodal dialogues. GraphSmile comprises two key components, i.e., GSF and SDP modules. GSF ingeniously leverages graph structures to alternately assimilate inter-modal and intra-modal emotional dependencies layer by layer, adequately capturing cross-modal cues while effectively circumventing fusion conflicts. SDP is an auxiliary task to explicitly delineate the sentiment dynamics between utterances, promoting the model's ability to distinguish sentimental discrepancies. Furthermore, GraphSmile is effortlessly applied to multimodal sentiment analysis in conversation (MSAC), forging a unified multimodal affective model capable of executing MERC and MSAC tasks. The scalar auxiliary variable (SAV) approach is a highly efficient method widely used for solving gradient flow systems. This approach offers several advantages, including linearity, unconditional energy stability, and ease of implementation. By introducing scalar auxiliary variables, a modified system that is equivalent to the original system is constructed at the continuous level. However, during temporal discretization, computational errors can lead to a loss of equivalence and accuracy. In this paper, we introduce a new Constant Scalar Auxiliary Variable (CSAV) approach in which we derive an Ordinary Differential Equation (ODE) for the constant scalar auxiliary variable r. We also introduce a stabilization parameter ({\alpha}) to improve the stability of the scheme by slowing down the dynamics of r. The CSAV approach provides additional benefits as well. We explicitly discretize the auxiliary variable in combination with the nonlinear term, enabling the solution of a single linear system with constant coefficients at each time step. This new approach also eliminates the need for assumptions about the free energy potential, removing the bounded-from-below restriction imposed by the nonlinear free energy potential in the original SAV approach. Finally, we validate the proposed method through extensive numerical simulations, demonstrating its effectiveness and accuracy.

The rise of dockless bike-sharing systems has led to increased interest in using bike-sharing data for sustainable transportation and travel behavior research. However, these studies have rarely focused on the individual daily mobility patterns, hindering their alignment with the increasingly refined needs of active transportation planning. To bridge this gap, this paper presents a two-layer framework, integrating improved flow clustering methods and multiple rule-based decision trees, to mine individual cyclists' daily home-work commuting patterns from dockless bike-sharing trip data with user IDs. The effectiveness and applicability of the framework is demonstrated by over 200 million bike-sharing trip records in Shenzhen. Based on the mining results, we obtain two categories of bike-sharing commuters (74.38% of Only-biking commuters and 25.62% of Biking-with-transit commuters) and some interesting findings about their daily commuting patterns. For instance, lots of bike-sharing commuters live near urban villages and old communities with lower costs of living, especially in the central city. Only-biking commuters have a higher proportion of overtime than Biking-with-transit commuters, and the Longhua Industrial Park, a manufacturing-oriented area, has the longest average working hours (over 10 hours per day). Moreover, massive users utilize bike-sharing for commuting to work more frequently than for returning home, which is intricately related to the over-demand for bikes around workplaces during commuting peak. In sum, this framework offers a cost-effective way to understand the nuanced non-motorized mobility patterns and low-carbon trip chains of residents. It also offers novel insights for improving the bike-sharing services and planning of active transportation modes.

Recently, data depth has been widely used to rank multivariate data. The study of the depth-based $Q$ statistic, originally proposed by Liu and Singh (1993), has become increasingly popular when it can be used as a quality index to differentiate between two samples. Based on the existing theoretical foundations, more and more variants have been developed for increasing power in the two sample test. However, the asymptotic expansion of the $Q$ statistic in the important foundation work of Zuo and He (2006) currently has an optimal rate $m^{-3/4}$ slower than the target $m^{-1}$, leading to limitations in higher-order expansions for developing more powerful tests. We revisit the existing assumptions and add two new plausible assumptions to obtain the target rate by applying a new proof method based on the Hoeffding decomposition and the Cox-Reid expansion. The aim of this paper is to rekindle interest in asymptotic data depth theory, to place Q-statistical inference on a firmer theoretical basis, to show its variants in current research, to open the door to the development of new theories for further variants requiring higher-order expansions, and to explore more of its potential applications.

The Ruddlesden-Popper (R-P) bilayer nickelate, La3Ni2O7, was recently found to show signatures of high-temperature superconductivity (HTSC) at pressures above 14 GPa. Subsequent investigations achieved zero resistance in single- and poly-crystalline samples under hydrostatic pressure conditions. Yet, obvious diamagnetic signals, the other hallmark of superconductors, are still lacking owing to the filamentary nature with low superconducting volume fraction. The presence of a novel "1313" polymorph and competing R-P phases obscured proper identification of the phase for HTSC. Thus, achieving bulk HTSC and identifying the phase at play are the most prominent tasks at present. Here, we address these issues in the praseodymium (Pr)-doped La2PrNi2O7 polycrystalline samples. We find that the substitutions of Pr for La effectively inhibits the intergrowth of different R-P phases, resulting in nearly pure bilayer structure. For La2PrNi2O7, pressure-induced orthorhombic-to-tetragonal structural transition takes place at Pc ~ 11 GPa, above which HTSC emerges gradually upon further compression. The superconducting transition temperatures at 18-20 GPa reach Tconset = 82.5 K and Tczero = 60 K, which are the highest values among known nickelate superconductors. More importantly, bulk HTSC was testified by detecting clear diamagnetic signals below ~75 K corresponding to an estimated superconducting volume fraction ~ 57(5)% at 20 GPa. Our results not only resolve the existing controversies but also illuminate directions for exploring bulk HTSC in the bilayer nickelates.

Understanding how elemental abundances evolve during solar flares helps shed light on the mass and energy transfer between different solar atmospheric layers. However, prior studies have mostly concentrated on averaged abundances or specific flare phases, leaving a gap in exploring the comprehensive observations throughout the entire flare process. Consequently, investigations into this area are relatively scarce. Exploiting the Solar X-ray Monitor data obtained from the Chang'E-2 lunar orbiter, we present two comprehensive soft X-ray spectroscopic observations of flares in active regions, AR 11149 and 11158, demonstrating elemental abundance evolutions under different conditions. Our findings unveil the inverse first ionization potential (IFIP) effect during flares for Fe for the first time, and reaffirm its existence for Si. Additionally, we observed a rare depletion of elemental abundances, marking the second IFIP effect in flare decay phases. Our study offers a CSHKP model-based interpretation to elucidate the formation of both the FIP and IFIP effects in flare dynamics, with the inertia effect being incorporated into the ponderomotive force fractionation model., Comment: Accepted ApJ
