This study had the objective to heat treated angelim vermelho (red) wood and then to analyze its effects on the physical, mechanical and chemical properties of the wood. The wood was treated at 180 ºC and 215 °C for 20 min and 40 min in a muffle furnace. The basic density, shrinkage, anisotropy, the modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity, as well as the holocellulose, lignin, extractives and ash content values were obtained for the treated and untreated (control) wood. The results indicated that the basic density was not changed and there was a decrease in volumetric shrinkage in the most severe treatment. The modulus of rupture did not change and the chemical analysis indicated a decrease in the holocellulose and extractives content resulting in lignin content percentage increase, mainly in the most severe test., Este estudio tuvo el objetivo de tratar térmicamente madera angelim vermelho (roja) y luego analizar sus efectos sobre las propiedades físicas, mecánicas y químicas de la madera. La madera se trató a 180 ºC y 215 °C durante 20 min y 40 min en un horno de mufla. Se obtuvieron los valores de densidad básica, contracción, anisotropía, módulo de ruptura y módulo de elasticidad, así como holocelulosa, lignina, extractivos y contenido de cenizas para la madera tratada y sin tratar (control). Los resultados indicaron que la densidad básica no cambió y hubo una disminución en la contracción volumétrica en el tratamiento más severo. El módulo de ruptura no cambió y el análisis químico indicó una disminución en el contenido de holocelulosa y extractivos resultando en un aumento porcentual del contenido de lignina, principalmente en la prueba más severa

Este artículo analiza el efecto del sexo, el cuidado exclusivo y las necesidades de conciliación en la calidad del empleo global y en sus dimensiones objetivas y subjetivas. A partir de datos de la Encuesta nacional de empleo, trabajo, salud y calidad de vida de los trabajadores y trabajadoras en Chile 2009-2010 (ENETS), elaboramos índices multidimensionales de calidad del empleo válidos y confiables. Las estimaciones del modelo indican que ser mujer, cuidador único y con necesidades de conciliación tiene efectos negativos sobre la calidad del empleo, pero con intensidades distintas. Además, los factores personales y laborales otorgan heterogeneidad a la medición de las dimensiones objetivas y subjetivas, lo que evidencia la importancia de una medición diferenciada., Aquest article analitza l'efecte del sexe, la cura exclusiva i les necessitats de conciliació en la qualitat de l'ocupació global i en les seves dimensions objectives i subjectives. Using data from the 2009-2010 National Survey on Employment, Work, Health, and Quality of Life of Male and Female Workers in Chile (ENETS), valid and reliable multidimensional indexes of job quality are constructed. The model estimations indicate that being female, a sole caregiver, and having reconciliation needs exert negative effects on job quality, but with different intensities. Additionally, personal and work-related factors lend heterogeneity to the measurement of the objective and subjective dimensions, thus indicating the importance of a differential measurement to better understand this phenomenon.

Radiata pine wood packaging needs to be sterilized according to international phytosanitary standards. In this work the heat sterilization time of green radiata pine packaging material stacked without separators was studied on an industrial scale, considering as variable factors the steam temperature (80, 90 and 100) °C, the thickness of the wood (16, 38 and 53) mm and the height of the wood pile (150, 200 and 400) mm. The pilot experiment was conducted in a 40 m3 industrial oven. Subsequently the experiment was scaled to 100 m3ovens. The results showed that the heat sterilization time in the analyzed temperature range depends signifi-cantly on the thickness and height of the stack. The minimum time to obtain heat sterilization conditions of radiata pine packaging material varied from 123 min to a maximum of 2275 min, La madera de pino radiata destinada a la fabricación de embalajes para exportación requiere ser esterilizada de acuerdo a las normas fitosanitarias internacionales NIMF 15. En el presente trabajo se estudió en secaderos industriales el tiempo de esterilización con vapor que es necesario emplear con madera aserrada verde de pino radiata apilada sin separadores y destinada a la fabricación de embalajes, considerando como factores variables la temperatura del vapor (80 ºC, 90 ºC y 100 °C), el espesor de las piezas de madera (16 mm, 38 mm y 53 mm) y la altura del subpaquete de madera (150 mm, 200 mm y 400 mm). Un experimento piloto fue realizado en un horno industrial de 40 m3. Posteriormente se escaló el experimento a hornos industriales de 100 m3. Los resultados mostraron que el tiempo necesario para la esterilización con vapor en el rango de temperaturas analizado aumenta significativamente con el espesor de las tablas y con la altura del subpaquete. This research was performed with Pinus oocarpa Schiede ex Schltdl. Var. Ochoterenai of Forest Plan-tation of Colombia, specie that have presented some important troubles that have limited its use, due to its dimensional instability and low mechanical resistance. Polymer impregnation treatments have reduced defor-mation and improved physical and mechanical properties of the wood. The aim of this research was evaluated the effect of polyethylene glycol impregnation with molecular weight 600 and 1500, polyvinyl alcohol and zeolite addition, on density, dimensional stability, static flexion and compression parallel to Grain. The samples were impregnated in hot bath at 95 °C for 8 hours, and then impregnated at room temperature for 16 hours. The assessment of the wood was carried out under the Colombian Technical Standards NTC 290, 663, 784 and other standards. The best results were obtained with the impregnation of polyethylene glycol 1500 where the density increased between 21 % and 24 %; the anti-swelling efficiency was 60 %; in static flexion the modulus rupture increased 20 %, modulus of elasticity 39 % and compression parallel to grain increased 8 %. Treat-ment with polyethylene glycol 600 provided lower anti-swelling efficiency (14%), and lower improvement in density (8%), and in mechanical properties (1% to 7%). Impregnation with polymers evidenced wood with greater dimensional stability and better physical and mechanical properties., La presente investigación se desarrolló con la madera Pinus oocarpa Schiede ex Schltdl. Var. Ochoterenai de plantación forestal de Colombia, especie que ha presentado inconvenientes importantes que han limitado su uso, debido a su inestabilidad dimensional y baja resistencia mecánica. Los tratamientos con impregnación de polímeros han permitido reducir las deformaciones, y mejorar las propiedades físicas y mecánicas. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el efecto de la impregnación de polietilenglicol con peso molecular 600 y 1500, alcohol polivinílico y adición de zeolita, sobre la densidad, estabilidad dimensional, flexión estática y compresión paralela al grano. Las muestras se impregnaron con baño caliente a 95 °C, durante 8 horas, y luego impregnados a temperatura ambiente, por 16 horas. La evaluación de la madera se llevó a cabo bajo las Nor-mas Técnicas Colombianas NTC 290, 663, 784 y otros estándares de la literatura. Los mejores resultados se obtuvieron con la impregnación de polietilenglicol 1500; la densidad aumentó entre el 21 % y 24 %; la eficien-cia anti-hinchazón fue de 60 %; en flexión estática aumentó el módulo ruptura 20 %, el módulo de elasticidad 39 % en compresión paralela al grano aumentó 8 %. El tratamiento con polietilenglicol 600 proporcionó una menor eficacia anti-hinchazón (14 %), y menor mejora en densidad (8 %) y en las propiedades mecánicas (1 % a 7 %). In the present study, the variation of green moisture content and basic density in Eucalyptus nitens trees with sawable dimensions were examined, coming from a plantation of 18 year old, grown at the Biobío region, Chile. Nine trees were randomly selected. From each tree a set of 8 discs were obtained, which represented the following fixed heights: 0,8 m; 3,2 m; 7,0 m; 9,4 m; 15,0 m; 17,4 m; 23,2 m; and 25,6 m. From each disk samples were obtained at 10, 30, 50, 70 and 90% of the radius, in the North and South cardinal exposures, for the determinations of green moisture content and basic density. The cardinal exposure in the stem was relevant for the green moisture content, but not for the basic density. Significant changes were reported in green moisture content and basic density, with the radial and axial position in the stem. Different patterns of radial variation, of green moisture content and basic density, were found along stem of the tree. The radial changes (in green moisture content and basic density were minors in the upper part of the stem, and the axial changes were minors near to the bark. Keywords: Eucalypt, linear models, wood physical properties, axial variability,radial variability, Se examinó la variación del contenido de humedad verde, y de la densidad básica de la madera, en fustes de árboles de Eucalyptus nitens con dimensiones aserrables, provenientes de una plantación de 18 años de edad, crecida en la región del Biobío, Chile. Se seleccionaron 9 árboles aleatoriamente. De cada árbol se obtuvo un conjunto de 8 rodelas, que representaron las siguientes alturas fijas: 0,8 m; 3,2 m; 7,0 m; 9,4 m; 15,0 m; 17,4 m; 23,2 m; y 25,6 m. De cada rodela se obtuvieron muestras al 10, 30, 50, 70 y 90% del radio, en la exposición cardinal Norte y Sur del fuste, para las determinaciones de contenido de humedad verde y densidad básica. La exposición cardinal en el fuste, resultó relevante para el contenido de humedad verde, pero no para la densidad básica. Se reportaron cambios significativos en contenido de humedad verde y densidad básica, con la posición radial y axial en el fuste. Se encontraron distintos patrones de variación radial, del contenido de humedad verde y de la densidad básica, a lo largo del fuste del árbol. Los cambios radiales (en contenido de humedad verde y densidad básica) fueron menores en la parte alta del fuste, y los cambios axiales, menores en el leño cercano a la corteza.

In this work the total heating time was studied using radio frequency to sterilize wood packaging material of Pinus radiata, through the conditions 56 ° C and 60 ° C for 30 and 1 minutes respectively, according to international phytosanitary norms. The experimental tests were carried out in a laboratory radiofrequency equipment of 3 m3 capacity. The heating time was determined and prediction models were developed, depending on the thickness, plaque separation and wood loading volume, with confidence levels above 90%. The results showed that the total time of radiofrequency sterilization was greater in the surface of the pile and were statistically similar under both treatment conditions.

Laboratory scale experiments are performed in order to characterize the artificial wood drying of Pinus radiata at conventional temperatures and accelerated temperatures. The experimental data allow to determine the wood thermal conductivity through inverse methodology. The comparative analysis shows that the implementation of the developed inverse methodology is consistent with information available in the specialized literature; which means increased thermal conductivities with increased humidity and temperature, whose values oscillate between 0,34 and 0,56 (W/m K) to moisture variations between 22% and 64%; and temperatures between 70°C and 90°C, respectively., Se realizan experimentos a escala de laboratorio para caracterizar el secado artificial de madera de pino radiata a temperaturas convencionales y aceleradas, con el propósito de obtener datos que permitan determinar la conductividad térmica de la madera mediante metodología inversa. El análisis comparativo muestra que la implementación de la metodología inversa desarrollada entrega información consistente con datos disponibles en la literatura especializada: conductividades térmicas crecientes con el aumento de la humedad y la temperatura, cuyos valores fluctúan entre 0,34 y 0,56 (W/m K) para variaciones de humedad entre 22% y 64%; y temperaturas entre 70°C a 90°C, respectivamente.

Durante el año 2015 se dieron a conocer la Hoja de Ruta del Plan Estratégico Mesoregional de la Industria Secundaria de la Madera impulsado por la CORFO (CORFO 2015) y la Política Forestal Chilena 2015-2035 promovida por el Ministerio de Agricultura (MINAGRI 2015). En ambos proyectos se plantea que la industrialización de los recursos silvomadereros mejorará el crecimiento económico y la productividad de Chile. Siendo así, la madera pasará a ser uno de los principales componentes de los materiales de construcción en el país, se espera al 2035 duplicar la utilización de la madera en la construcción de viviendas, para lo cual se requerirá la estandarización y certificación de la madera.Igualmente durante el año 2015, se lanzó el Informe de Ciencia para el Desarrollo de Chile inducido por Conicyt (CONICYT 2015). Se indica que las universidades regionales tendrán un rol notable en la I+D+i, aprovechando sus ventajas competitivas en las áreas relevantes que las identifiquen y que sean verificables mediante la demostración de capacidades en la resolución de problemas propios de una región. El financiamiento de la investigación y las capacidades científicas y tecnológicas se orientará además, hacia algunas áreas selectivas del país. Así, entre otros, para el 2030 se propone triplicar la formación de investigadores y quintuplicar las exportaciones con un 10% de éstas, intensivas en altas tecnologías.

Collapse and drying stresses are currently induced during the drying of Eucalyptus nitens in solid wood products. The purpose of this study was to investigate these drying stresses by measuring hygromechanical strains during the drying of Eucalyptus nitens boards.Small samples of Eucalyptus nitens wood were oriented in the radial and tangential directions and tested to determine the hygromechanical strains during the drying process. This experimental work consisted of cantilevered bending tests conducted under variable relative humidity conditions. Tests were performed in a conditioning chamber at 30 °C with an equilibrium moisture content ranging from 22 to 12% under four levels of stress: 0, 10, 20 and 30% of the rupture load. The strains were determined using strain gauges, and the total deflection was measured with a linear variable differential transformer.The results show that in hygromechanical strains during the drying of Eucalyptus nitens, both the surface deformation and mechano-sorption strain were found to be proportional to the applied stress and reached their maximum values in the tangential direction. The total deflection increased 0,18 mm/mm with a surface deformation of 0,20 mm/mm, and the mechano-sorptive strain provides a greater contribution with a value of 0,11 mm/mm, thus corresponding to 59% of the total deformation. In attempts to improve the drying schedules of Eucalyptus nitens to develop solid wood products, mechano-sorptive behavior may be applied to relieve collapse and drying stress.
