Introduction: Frequent thrombotic complications have been reported in patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. The risk in patients with mild disease is unknown.Case Report: We report a case series of three individuals recently diagnosed with COVID-19, who presented to the emergency department with chest pain and were found to have pulmonary emboli. The patients had mild symptoms, no vital sign abnormalities, and were negative according to the pulmonary embolism rule-out criteria.Conclusion: This suggests that patients with active or suspected COVID-19 should be considered at elevated risk for pulmonary embolism when presenting with chest pain, even without common risk factors for pulmonary embolism.

GeSnC alloys offer a route to direct bandgap semiconductors for CMOS-compatible lasers, but the use of CBr4 as a carbon source was shown to reduce Sn incorporation by 83%–92%. We report on the role of thermally cracked H in increasing Sn incorporation by 6x–9.5x, restoring up to 71% of the lost Sn, and attribute this increase to removal of Br from the growth surface as HBr prior to formation of volatile groups such as SnBr4. Furthermore, as the H flux is increased, Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy reveals a monotonic increase in both Sn and carbon incorporation. X-ray diffraction reveals tensile-strained films that are pseudomorphic with the substrate. Raman spectroscopy suggests substitutional C incorporation; both x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman suggest a lack of graphitic carbon or its other phases. For the lowest growth temperatures, scanning transmission electron microscopy reveals nanovoids that may account for the low Sn substitutional fraction in those layers. Conversely, the sample grown at high temperatures displayed abrupt interfaces, notably devoid of any voids, tin, or carbon-rich clusters. Finally, the surface roughness decreases with increasing growth temperature. These results show that atomic hydrogen provides a highly promising route to increase both Sn and C to achieve a strongly direct bandgap for optical gain and active silicon photonics. This paper traces some of the ways that IT has changed and continues to change our lives, and how information and communication technologies or ICT are changing learning in schools. The real potential of ICT is the way it changes learners and the major focus of the paper is on e-learning, a term that combines pedagogy and technology. For this potential to be realised, teacher development is critical, and to this end some of the rich resources available for use by teacher educators through global gateways are described. Online education has fundamentally altered the educational landscape, enhancing accessibility and flexibility for learners. However, a notable limitation of asynchronous learning modalities is the diminished interpersonal engagement inherent in traditional face-to-face pedagogical contexts. This empirical inquiry investigates the impact of deliberately integrating highly interactive instructional activities within online asynchronous developmental mathematics courses. Three principal thematic categories emerged through the iterative design process of these activities. Each category is delineated and exemplified, followed by exploring course policies conducive to student achievement in interactive learning contexts. Following a grounded theory approach, this study scrutinizes course outcomes alongside student and instructor evaluations at the semester's end. This study examines journalistic coverage of false information through a qualitative textual analysis of news about four popular false information cases during the 2016 and 2020 US presidential elections: The false claims that (1) the Pope endorsed Donald Trump; (2) Hillary Clinton and her campaign manager ran a pedophilia ring in a pizza shop; (3) the 2020 election was fraudulent and stolen; and (4) liberal politicians and celebrities were Satan worshippers and pedophiles. The analysis identified three dimensions of correction of false information in news coverage. The first dimension examined emphasis on the correct rather than false information. This nuanced past research by considering different practices, such as elaborating on correct information and avoiding the inclusion of incorrect information. The second dimension referred to the tone used to correct false information. The adoption of an assertive tone demonstrated journalists' use of their voice to authoritatively correct false information. The third dimension entailed the inclusion of sources, which were used to frame correct information consistently with a diversity of audiences' worldviews. These findings offer a framework to assess journalistic reporting on false information and illuminate strategies to stem its spread. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: This case report describes the diagnosis and treatment of noncongenital atlanto‐axial luxation in a 10‐year‐old Irish Draught mare. The mare initially presented to our referral hospital for dullness and colic signs. After resolution of the colic signs, the horse displayed increasing levels of dullness. Physical examination revealed that the horse could not flex and extend its neck freely to reach food from the ground. Radiographic and standing computed tomographic investigations revealed atlanto‐axial luxation that was subsequently successfully reduced using a surgical approach under general anaesthesia. To the author's knowledge, this is the first case report describing the successful surgical treatment of presumed traumatic atlanto‐axial luxation in an adult horse. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
