3. Coupling of the triplet states of a negatively charged exciton in a quantum dot with the spin of a magnetic atom

Two electrons in a quantum dot (QD) can form triplet states. We analyze the exchange coupling of the triplet states of the negatively charged exciton in a QD (X$^-$, two electrons and one hole) with the spin of a magnetic atom (Mn). Two techniques are used to access the spin structure of this magnetic complex: the resonant excitation of the excited states of X$^-$-Mn and the analysis of the emission of a negatively charged biexciton in a magnetic dot (XX$^-$-Mn). The photo-luminescence (PL) excitation of X$^-$-Mn reveals excited states with a circularly polarized fine structure which strongly depends on the Mn spin state S$_z$ and gives rise to negative circular polarization emission. This fine structure arises from the coupling of the triplet states of an excited charged exciton with the Mn (X$^{-*}$-Mn) and its S$_z$ dependence can be described by a spin effective model. The recombination of XX$^-$-Mn leaves in the dot a charged exciton in its excited state and the PL structure is controlled by the coupling of triplet states of X$^{-*}$ with the Mn spin. An analysis of the polarization and magneto-optic properties of this emission gives access to the electron-hole exchange interaction within the triplets states. Comparing the fine structure of the singlet X$^-$-Mn and of the triplets of X$^{-*}$-Mn we can independently study the different source of anisotropy in the QD: the valence band mixing and the exchange interaction in an anisotropic potential

4. Constraints on heavy decaying dark matter from 570 days of LHAASO observations

The Kilometer Square Array~(KM2A) of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) aims at surveying the northern gamma-ray sky at energies above 10 TeV with unprecedented sensitivity. Gamma-ray observations have long been one of the most powerful tools for dark matter searches, as e.g., high-energy gamma-rays could be produced by the decays of heavy dark matter particles. In this letter, we present the first dark matter analysis with LHAASO-KM2A, using the first 340~days of data from 1/2-KM2A and 230~days of data from 3/4-KM2A. Several regions of interest are used to search for a signal and account for the residual cosmic-ray background after gamma/hadron separation. We find no excess of dark matter signals, and thus place some of the strongest gamma-ray constraints on the lifetime of heavy dark matter particles with mass between 10^5 and 10^9~GeV. Our results with LHAASO are robust, and have important implications for dark matter interpretations of the diffuse astrophysical high-energy neutrino emission.

5. Spin dynamics of positively charged excitons in Cr$^+$-doped quantum dots probed by resonant photoluminescence

We study the dynamics of the spin system that consist of a positively charged II-VI semiconductor quantum dot doped with a single Cr$^+$ ion. The resonant photoluminescence (PL) of the positively charged exciton coupled with the Cr$^+$ spin is used to analyze the main spin relaxation channels. The intensity of the resonant PL is reduced by an optical pumping of the spin of the resident hole-Cr$^+$ complex that can be seen as a nano-magnet. The spin memory can be partially erased by a non-resonant optical excitation. This leads to an increase of the resonant PL signal. The resonant PL is co-circularly polarized and corresponds to relaxation channels that conserve the Cr$^+$ spin $\vert S_z \vert$. The observation in the resonant-PL excitation spectra of optical transitions with a change of the Cr$^+$ spin permits to determine the magnetic anisotropy of the magnetic atom. Optical pumping, auto-correlation measurements and the power dependence of the PL intensity distribution show that the effective temperature of the hole-Cr$^+$ spin system is affected by the optical excitation through the local generation of phonons.

No study has clarified the relationship among pteridines and NOS, fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) generated by pteridines, and reactive oxygen species. In this study, we administered arginine, a precursor of NO, and confirmed changes in the levels of pteridines, FeNO, and reactive oxygen species and their relationship to clarify the pathogenesis of airway inflammation in which oxidative stress is involved, such as bronchial asthma.Patients and Methods: This is a prospective, randomized open-label study. Children, aged 2 to 15 years, who were scheduled for growth hormone stimulation tests and were able to undergo a respiratory function test were recruited. They were randomly divided into two groups: arginine-administered and control groups. In the former, L-arginine hydrochloride was intravenously administered. After administration, the levels of diacron-reactive oxygen metabolites (d-ROMs), serum pteridines, serum amino acids, and fractional exhaled NO (FeNO) were measured.Results: We analyzed 15 children aged 4 to 14 years. In the arginine-administered group, there was an increase in the FeNO level and a decrease in the d-ROMs level, reaching a peak 30 min after administration, compared with the control group. In addition, there was a decrease in the serum biopterin level and an increase in the d-ROMs level, reaching peak 60 min after administration.Conclusion: The administration of L-arginine increased the NO level and decreased the d-ROMs level. Due to this, biopterin may be consumed and decreased, leading to an increase in the d-ROMs level. As a reduction in reactive oxygen species leads to the relief of inflammation, arginine and biopterin may be useful for inhibiting inflammation.Keywords: asthma, biomarker, biopterin, child, FeNO, d-ROMs

7. Robust Limits from Upcoming Neutrino Telescopes and Implications on Minimal Dark Matter Models

Experimental developments in neutrino telescopes are drastically improving their ability to constrain the annihilation cross-section of dark matter. In this paper, we employ an angular power spectrum analysis method to probe the galactic and extra-galactic dark matter signals with neutrino telescopes. We first derive projections for a next generation of neutrino telescope that is inspired by KM3NeT. We emphasise that such analysis is much less sensitive to the choice of dark matter density profile. Remarkably, the projected sensitivity is improved by more than an order of magnitude with respect to the existing limits obtained by assuming the Burkert dark matter density profile describing the galactic halo. Second, we analyse minimal extensions to the Standard Model that will be maximally probed by the next generation of neutrino telescopes. As benchmark scenarios, we consider Dirac dark matter in $s$- and $t$-channel models with vector and scalar mediators. We follow a global approach by examining all relevant complementary experimental constraints. We find that neutrino telescopes will be able to competitively probe significant portions of parameter space. Interestingly, the anomaly-free $L_{\mu}-L_{\tau}$ model can potentially be explored in regions where the relic abundance is achieved through freeze-out mechanism.

In recent years, many gamma-ray sources have been identified, yet the unresolved component hosts valuable information on the faintest emission. In order to extract it, a cross-correlation with gravitational tracers of matter in the Universe has been shown to be a promising tool. We report here the first identification of a cross-correlation signal between gamma rays and the distribution of mass in the Universe probed by weak gravitational lensing. We use the Dark Energy Survey Y1 weak lensing catalogue and the Fermi Large Area Telescope 9-year gamma-ray data, obtaining a signal-to-noise ratio of 5.3. The signal is mostly localised at small angular scales and high gamma-ray energies, with a hint of correlation at extended separation. Blazar emission is likely the origin of the small-scale effect. The isoscalar giant monopole, dipole, and quadrupole strength distributions have been deduced in $^{90, 92}$Zr, and $^{92}$Mo from "background-free" spectra of inelastic $\alpha$-particle scattering at a beam energy of 385 MeV at extremely forward angles, including 0$^{\circ}$. These strength distributions were extracted by a multipole-decomposition analysis based on the expected angular distributions of the respective multipoles. We demonstrated a frequency offset locking between two laser sources using a waveguide-type electro-optic modulator (EOM) with 10th-order sidebands for magneto-optical trapping of Fr atoms. The frequency locking error signal was successfully obtained by performing delayed self-homodyne detection of the beat signal between the repumping frequency and the 10th-order sideband component of the trapping light. Sweeping the trapping-light and repumping-light frequencies with keeping its frequency difference of 46 GHz was confirmed over 1 GHz by monitoring the Doppler absorption profile of I2. The bound state of \nuclide[6][\Lambda\Lambda]{He} is studied as a three-body ($\Lambda\Lambda\alpha$) system in a cluster effective field theory at leading order (LO). We find that the system exhibits the limit cycle which is associated with the formation of bound states called the Efimov states. This implies that the three-body contact interaction should be promoted to LO. 17. The in vacuo release of Ar and rare gases from minerals: 3. The degassing of He, Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe from irradiated apatite

- Abstract
The mechanisms of in vacuo release of Ar are investigated by bringing them into context with nine other rare gas isotopes and by studying the mineralogical modifications that occur in their host mineral. A 200 mg shard of Durango fluorapatite was step-heated after neutron irradiation. It contained radiogenic 4He from natural U decay and artificially produced major rare gas isotopes: 20Ne from F, 37Ar from Ca, 38Ar from Cl, 80Kr and 82Kr from Br, 128Xe from I, 131Xe from Ba and 134Xe from U. The 4He release rate was compared with that from an unirradiated aliquot. Helium was expected, and observed, to degas at the lowest furnace temperatures, with nearly complete exhaustion by 1300 °C. Neon followed a bimodal degassing pattern, with a peak of the release rate at 1178 °C and a higher one at 1406 °C. Argon degassing showed a similar bimodality. Krypton and xenon were both mostly released in a single, concentrated burst between 1362 and 1460 °C. The two Xe isotopes 128 and 131, produced from I and Ba, respectively, followed exactly the same degassing pattern. The crystallographic site of the target element had no control on the movement of the irradiation-produced rare gas atom. The He release from the irradiated and unirradiated aliquots gave two overlapping alignments in the Arrhenius diagram at temperatures between 450 and 1300 °C. The two slopes are indistinguishable at the 1 sigma level and yield an average activation energy of 62 ± 5 kJ/mol. In the 450–1300 °C temperature interval, all five rare gases showed parallel trends with an activation energy around 62 kJ/mol and release rate constants decreasing from He to Xe by about 4 orders of magnitude. Arrhenian trajectories for the Kr and Xe degassing rate merge and sharply steepen in the 1362 °C step, with a degassing rate in the 1406 °C step about 400 times higher than at lower temperatures and an activation energy of 1.28 MJ/mol. 18. Identification of Some Gem Quality Blue to Green Li-Tourmalines

Due to their appealing colors, gem quality tourmalines, particularly the blue to green Cu- and Mn-bearing Li-tourmalines known as the Paraíba type, have been of significant interest since their discovery at the end of 1980s. At the same time, the demand of other similar colored tourmalines increased. Most Paraíba-type tourmalines belong to the elbaite species; however, liddicoatite gems can also be found. Recognizing and classifying various tourmaline species, especially these valued Paraíba-type tourmalines, are important for geologists, mineralogists, mineral collectors, and gemologists. This study explores the application of Raman spectroscopy in random crystal orientations to distinguish between the elbaite and liddicoatite tourmaline species. Raman spectra were collected from faceted blue to green Li-tourmalines alongside chemical analysis using EDXRF (Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence), UV-Vis-NIR (Ultraviolet-Visible-Near InfraRed Spectroscopy), and PL (Photoluminescence spectroscopy) to provide comprehensive characterization. The results show that Raman spectroscopy, particularly in the OH stretching region, is a useful tool for differentiating elbaite from liddicoatite, and this identification remains consistent regardless of crystal orientation. The fingerprint region in the Raman spectra, on the other hand, is orientation-dependent and can only differentiate the two species when detected in specific orientations. Furthermore, Paraíba-type tourmalines can be identified by visible-near infrared (Vis-NIR) spectroscopy, although not by Raman spectroscopy.

19. Study of Mg–Fe content in tourmalines from the dravite–schorl series by Raman spectroscopy

- Abstract
Thanks to their high chemical and mechanical stability, their diffusion in all types of detrital sediments and their complex structural formula (XY3Z6(T6O18)(BO3)3V3W), tourmalines have attracted strong interest in provenance studies since, from their chemical composition, it is possible to reconstruct the source rocks in ancient sediments. Dravite and schorl, belonging to the alkali subgroup 1, are the most abundant tourmaline species, and they have different Y-site compositions in the unit cell: dravite has more magnesium, while schorl has a higher iron content. For this reason, it is important to measure the Mg–Fe relative content in order to classify the analysed tourmalines in the dravite–schorl series. Raman spectroscopy is a suitable technique as it allows quick and easy measurements that provide chemical and structural information on tourmalines with a high spatial resolution, thus allowing analysis of small grains that could be found in sediments. In this work, we correlated the relative Mg–Fe content (x = Mg/(Mg + Fe)) in different tourmaline samples from the dravite–schorl series ((Formula presented.)) with variations in Raman spectrum parameters in order to find a model for quick tourmaline identification useful for provenance studies. The chemical compositions of the analysed tourmalines are obtained by scanning electron microscope coupled with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). Raman measurements with a portable spectrometer have also been performed in order to evaluate our results for in situ applications.

The Thar Desert is a major sediment depocenter located in southwestern Asia and bordering the Indus drainage system to its east. It is unclear where the sediment that built the desert is coming from, and when the desert experienced phases of construction. In particular, we seek to establish the role of the South Asian monsoon in the initial formation and subsequent expansion of the desert. Here we integrate bulk-petrography and heavy-mineral data with U-Pb ages of detrital zircon grains to understand how the Thar Desert relates to the major potential sediment sources in the Himalayan orogen and to the large rivers that adjoin it to the west and north. Bulk petrography and heavy-mineral data from eolian sand in Cholistan (NE Pakistan) show closer similarity with that of Himalayan tributaries than eolian sand in Sindh (S Pakistan), which contains heavy-mineral suites close to those of mainstream Indus sand largely supplied by erosion of the Karakorum and Kohistan ranges. Kohistan is a particularly rich source of heavy minerals and is thus over-represented in provenance budgets based on that proxy alone. U[sbnd]Pb ages of detrital-zircon fail to show a sharp difference between dune sands in Sindh and Cholistan but confirms a somewhat greater supply from the Himalaya in Cholistan and from the Karakorum, Kohistan, and Nanga Parbat in Sindh. Zircon ages are similar in Sindh desert sand and in the Indus Delta, and are most similar to deltaic sand dated as 7 ka or older in the deglacial period. In parallel, the age signature of Cholistan sand resembles more that of older river channels found along the northwestern edge of the desert (e.g., paleo-Ghaggar-Hakra) than that of modern Himalayan tributaries (e.g., Sutlej). Both Cholistan and Sindh sands suggest that sediment supply to the desert was greater during the early Holocene when the summer monsoon was stronger. In the breakup of the deuteron by photons, polarization of outgoing neutrons can depend on the parity-violating component of two-nucleon interactions. The theory has unknown parity-violating low energy constants, and the results are expressed in linear combination of them. Many of the astrophysical sources and violent phenomena observed in our Universe are potential emitters of gravitational waves (GW) and high-energy neutrinos (HEN). Both GWs and HENs may escape very dense media and travel unaffected over cosmological distances, carrying information from the innermost regions of the astrophysical engines. Such messengers could also reveal new, hidden sources that have not been observed by conventional photon-based astronomy. Coincident observation of GWs and HENs may thus play a critical role in multimessenger astronomy. This is particularly true at the present time owing to the advent of a new generation of dedicated detectors: IceCube, ANTARES, VIRGO and LIGO. Given the complexity of the instruments, a successful joint analysis of this data set will be possible only if the expertise and knowledge of the data is shared between the two communities. With the use of pionless effective field theory including dibaryon fields, we study the $\gamma d \to \vec{n} p$ reaction for the laboratory photon energy $E_\gamma^{lab}$ ranging from threshold to 30 MeV. Our main goal is to calculate the neutron polarization $P_{y'}$ defined as $P_{y'} = (\sigma_+ - \sigma_-)/(\sigma_+ + \sigma_-)$, where $\sigma_+$ and $\sigma_-$ are the differential cross sections for the spin-up and spin-down neutrons, respectively, along the axis perpendicular to the reaction plane. We also calculate the total cross section as well as the differential cross section $\sigma(\theta)$, where $\theta$ is the colatitude angle. Although the results for the total and differential cross sections are found to agree reasonably well with the data, the results for $P_{y'}$ show significant discrepancy with the experiment. Dibaryon fields are introduced to facilitate calculations and ensure precision in the initial and final state propagators. Weak interactions are accounted for with the parity-violating dibaryon-nucleon-nucleon vertices, which contain unknown weak dibaryon-nucleon-nucleon coupling constants. We apply the model to the calculation of a parity-violating observable in the neutron-proton capture at threshold. Result is obtained up to the linear order in the unknown dibaryon-nucleon-nucleon coupling constants. - Abstract
We used high-resolution petrographic and dense-mineral data on modern sand to investigate erosion patterns of the El Rosario, San Fernando, and San Vicente river basins of Baja California (Mexico) to better understand the interrelationships between a complex magmatic arc terrane and surface processes. Modern sand composition of these three rivers reflects the nature of the source region, which lies in the central part of the Alisitos arc (Peninsular Ranges, Baja California, Mexico). The sand detrital modes correspond well with the main structural units drained by the El Rosario, San Fernando, and San Vicente rivers: 1) the Early Cretaceous oceanic arc of the Alisitos Group, 2) the Paleozoic to Mesozoic continental-margin metasedimentary rocks, 3) the Cretaceous plutons, 4) the Upper Cretaceous to Tertiary sedimentary rocks, and 5) the Tertiary volcanics. The modern sand of the San Vicente, San Fernando, and El Rosario rivers is fed chiefly from erosion of a magmatic arc and consists mostly of minor feldspatho-lithic (Fl) to quartzo-litho-feldspathic (qFL) sand and dominant quartzo-feldspatho-lithic (qLF) and litho-feldspatho-quartzose (lQF) sand. Framework petrography also suggests a progressive increase in quartz, K-feldspar, sedimentary and metamorphic lithic fragments, and a decrease in volcanic lithic fragments. Sand, in the Lv field, microlitic (Lvmi), felsitic (Lvf) and lathwork (Lvl) types, and trace amounts of vitric grains (Lvv), such as pumice particles. The andesitic volcanic province of the Alisitos arc sheds quartz-poor sand containing mainly microlitic lithic fragments and plagioclase, whereas sand derived from more felsic rhyolites and rhyodacitic and trachyandesitic products contains largely felsitic volcanic lithics and minor lathwork lithics are mainly derived from subordinate basalts. The proton-proton fusion reaction, $pp\to de^+\nu$, is studied in pionless effective field theory (EFT) with di-baryon fields up to next-to leading order. With the aid of the di-baryon fields, the effective range corrections are naturally resummed up to the infinite order and thus the calculation is greatly simplified. Furthermore, the low-energy constant which appears in the axial-current-di-baryon-di-baryon contact vertex is fixed through the ratio of two- and one-body matrix elements which reproduces the tritium lifetime very precisely. As a result we can perform a parameter free calculation for the process. We compare our numerical result with those from the accurate potential model and previous pionless EFT calculations, and find a good agreement within the accuracy better than 1%., Comment: 14 pages, 5 eps figures

The parity-violating nucleon-nucleon (NN) potential is considered up to next-to-next-to leading order in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory. We include one-pion exchange at leading order and the two-pion exchange and two-nucleon contact terms at next-to-next-to-leading order. The effects of intermediate (two-pion exchange) and short-range (two-nucleon contact) terms are probed by calculating the photon asymmetry $A_\gamma$ in $\vec{n} p \to d \gamma$ employing Siegert's theorem and an accurate phenomenological potential for the parity-conserving NN interaction. We explore in detail the uncertainties due to the parameters that control the contribution of the short-range interaction. We obtain about 20% uncertainty in the value of $A_\gamma$ up to the next-to-next-to leading order. We discuss the implication of this uncertainty for the determination of the weak pion-nucleon coupling constant and how the uncertainty can be reduced., Comment: Minor changes in the text. The total cross section for radiative neutron capture on a proton, $np \to d \gamma$, is evaluated at big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) energies. The electromagnetic transition amplitudes are calculated up to next-to leading order within the framework of pionless effective field theory with dibaryon fields. We also calculate the $d\gamma\to np$ cross section and the photon analyzing power for the $d\vec{\gamma}\to np$ process from the amplitudes. The values of low energy constants that appear in the amplitudes are estimated by a Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis using the relevant low energy experimental data. Our result agrees well with those of other theoretical calculations except for the $np\to d\gamma$ cross section at some energies estimated by an R-matrix analysis. We also study the uncertainties in our estimation of the $np\to d\gamma$ cross section at relevant BBN energies and find that the estimated cross section is reliable to within $\sim$1% error., Comment: 21 pages and 12 eps figures; 6 eps figures and 2 references added, and accepted for publication in Phys. Radiative corrections to the lifetime and angular correlation coefficients of neutron beta-decay are evaluated in effecitive field theory. We also evaluate the lowest order nucleon recoil corrections, including weak-magnetism. Our results agree with those of the long-range and model-independent part of previous calculations. In an effective theory the model-dependent radiative corrections are replaced by well-defined low-energy constants. The cross sections for low-energy neutrino-deuteron reactions are calculated within heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory employing cut-off regularization scheme. The transition operators are derived up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order in the Weinberg counting rules, while the nuclear matrix elements are evaluated using the wave functions generated by a high-quality phenomenological NN potential. With the adoption of the axial-current-four-nucleon coupling constant fixed from the tritium beta decay data, our calculation is free from unknown low-energy constants. Our results exhibit a high degree of stability against different choices of the cutoff parameter, a feature which indicates that, apart from radiative corrections, the uncertainties in the calculated cross sections are less than 1 %., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures. We estimate the flux of the GRB neutrino background and compute the event rate at SK and TITAND in the collapsar model, assuming that GRB formation rate is proportional to the star formation rate. We find that the flux and the event rate depend sensitively on the mass-accretion rate. Although the detection of signals from GRBs seems to be difficult by SK, we find that we can detect them by TITAND (optimistically about 20 events per year in the energy range where the energy of anti-electron neutrino is larger than 50 MeV). Therefore, we show that we will obtain the informations on the mass-accretion rate of collapsar by observing the GRB neutrino background, which, in turn, should give us informations on the total explosion energy of GRBs., Comment: 29 pages, 14 postscript figures, using REVTeV

We investigate the flux and the event rate of the supernova relic neutrino background (SRN) at the SuperKamiokande detector for various neutrino oscillation models with parameters inferred from recent experimental results. A realistic model of neutrino emission from supernova explosions and several models of the cosmic star formation history are adopted in the calculation. The number flux over entire energy range is found to be $11-15 \mathrm{cm^{-2}s^{-1}}$. We discuss the detection possibility of SRN at SuperKamiokande, comparing this SRN flux with other background neutrinos in more detail than previous studies. Even though there is no energy window in which SRN is dominant, we might detect it as the distortion of the other background event. We found in the energy range $17-25 \mathrm{MeV}$ the expected event rate at SuperKamiokande $0.4-0.8 ~\mathrm{yr^{-1}}$. In this range, ten-year observation might enable us to detect SRN signal (at one sigma level) in the case of LMA solar neutrino solution. We also investigate event rate at SNO and KamLAND. Muon capture on the deuteron is studied in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBChPT). It is found that by far the dominant contribution to $\mu d$ capture comes from a region of the final three-body phase-space in which the energy of the two neutrons is sufficiently small for HBChPT to be applicable. The single unknown low-energy constant having been fixed from the tritium beta decay rate, our calculation contains no free parameter. Our estimate of the $\mu d$ capture rate is consistent with the existing data.
