This article aims to grasp the investigative dimension in the academic-professional training of social workers based on the logic of the curriculum proposed by the 1996 ABEPSS Curricular Guidelines. It is defended the thesis that this logic, anchored in the historicaldialectical materialist method, has in the investigative dimension an intrinsic condition in the junction between formation and social reality. It should be noted that the reflections and analyses developed here are the result of a theoretical-bibliographical review of social work authors who discuss this issue based on Marxist social theory. The results indicate that capturing the place that research occupies in training is to apprehend the fundamentals of social work as a unit, knowing that each curricular component, based on its particularities in the totality of contents, must think about how to form this investigative profile in the social direction of the professional project.
