Statistics anxiety is a common problem in students taking statistics courses in the social sciences. It is most widely measured by the statistical anxiety scale. The various adaptations of this instrument have shown certain problems in the replication of its factorial structure and do not have a system to control possible response bias effects. The objective of our study was to propose a short test to measure statistical anxiety that also includes a scale to control social desirability bias.We developed a revised version of the statistical anxiety scale using procedures for controlling response biases and examined its factorial structure using exploratory and confirmatory analysis in a sample of 531 students.The revised version showed a clear four-factor structure in exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses with the expected three content factors plus one social desirability factor. The scales showed no acquiescence effects and moderate social desirability effects, and had a clear relationship with academic success.The revised version of the statistical anxiety scale improves on the psychometric properties of the original version and may overcome the problems detected in some adaptations of the previous version.

Professional drivers are a group susceptible to sleep problems or incorrect rest patterns resulting from work stress that causes alterations in biological stress markers, such as cortisol, or in cardiovascular parameters that show a state of physiological hyper-activation. The current research objective was to adapt and validate the Groningen Sleep Scale (Meijman et al., 1990) in a Spanish population. We analysed its internal structure, reliability and evidence of validity. The participants in this study were 372 drivers (93.4% men, 6.6% women), with a mean age of 40.9 (SD = 10.54), obtained through non-probabilistic sampling. The SPSS 23.0 and AMOS (5.0) programs were used. With the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of the AMOS program (5.0), the indicators NFI = 0.902; TLI = 0.844; CFI = 0.913; RMSEA = 0.129 were obtained and showed an acceptable adjustment of the unifactorial model with 8 items. Adequate reliability (0.90) and appropriate evidence of validity with TDS-38, MBI-GS, Irritation, MP-9, DII, and Trans-18. We can conclude that the Groningen Sleep Scale (GSQS-8) is a reliable and valid instrument, suitable in the Spanish language for evaluating the sleep quality of professional drivers.

The study objective is to create a scale specifically for measuring driver fatigue and to analyze the scale's psychometric properties. The participants were 518 Spanish drivers. We carried out an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and the first subsample obtained a single-item solution (eight items). We then performed a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with a second subsample. The results were root mean square error of approximation (rmsea) = 0.05, comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.94 and Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) = 0.92, which corroborates the previous results and maintains the same number of elements. The resulting dimension shows good reliability. The scale scores were then related to several external correlates and other scales, and showed good convergence and criteria validity. The results indicate that the scale for assessing work fatigue specifically in professional drivers - driver fatigue (DF-8) - is a reliable and valid instrument.

Background: A worker’s work habits can affect their health, both physically and psychologically. Negative results have been associated with work demands (stress, anxiety and depression). Objective: In the present research we carried out a predictive study of work addiction by applying three questionnaires on depression and anxiety. Methods: In this study, the participants were 332 workers, obtained through non-probabilistic sampling. The FACTOR (version 7.2) and SPSS 23.0 programs were used. Results: The results of the correlation analysis show both positive and negative associations with the variables studied. We conclude that work addiction variables can predict anxiety and depression because we found that two variables predict 18.3% of depression and 20.3% of anxiety, which are feelings generated by work and excessive work. Conclusion: It can be concluded that feelings generated by work and excessive work predict anxiety and depression, thus the present research helps to broaden knowledge on work addiction, promoting a healthy lifestyle and prevent absenteeism.

Balanced scales control for acquiescence (ACQ) because the tendency of the respondent to agree with the positive items is cancelled out by the tendency to agree with opposite-pole items. When full balance is achieved, ACQ is not expected to affect external validity. Otherwise, attenuated estimates are expected to appear if no control methods such as Lorenzo-SevaFerrando's (2009) are used.Expected results were derived analytically. Subsequently, a simulation was carried out to assess (a) how ACQ impacted external validity and (b) how validity estimates behaved when ACQ was corrected. Two illustrative examples are provided.A sizable number of items and/or high content loadings tended to decrease ACQ's impact on validity estimates, making the empirical coefficient closer to its structural value. Furthermore, when scales were well balanced, the controlled and uncorrected scores were close to each other, and led to unbiased validity estimates. When the scales were unbalanced and no corrections were used, attenuated empirical validity coefficients inevitably appeared.Designing a well-balanced test or correcting for ACQ are the best ways to minimize attenuation in external validity estimation.

El objetivo de este estudio fue realizar un estudio correlacional-predictivo de las variables antecedentes de la Pasión por el trabajo. Método: Los participantes han sido 513 trabajadores (48,1 % hom- bres, 51,9 % mujeres), obtenidos mediante un muestreo no probabilístico. Se han utilizado los programas FACTOR (versión 7.2) y SPSS 20.0. Resultados: se determina la capacidad predictiva de variables como Persona- lidad, Engagement, Autoeficacia, ICO, Satisfacción por la vida y Estilo de vida sobre la Pasión por el trabajo. Conclusiones: La Pasión por el Traba- jo se puede predecir de la siguiente manera: La Pasión Armoniosa de for- ma directa con las variables Dedicación, Crecimiento, Actividad física, Sa- tisfacción con la vida y Responsabilidad excesiva, y de manera inversa con el Vigor. Mientras que la Pasión Obsesiva a través de las variables Absor- ción y Responsabilidad excesiva y de manera negativa la Satisfacción con la vida, la Apertura a la experiencia y la Amabilidad. The aim of this study was to conduct a correlational- predictive study of the antecedent variables of Passion towards Work. Method: The participants were 513 workers (48.1% male, 51.9% female), obtained through non-probability sampling. We used the FACTOR pro- grams (7.2 version) and SPSS 20.0. Conclusions: Passion towards Work can be predicted as follows: The variables Dedication, Growth, Physical activity, Satisfaction with life and Excessive responsibility were direct predictors of Harmonious Passion whereas Vigor was an inverse predictor. Similarly, the variables Absorption and Excessive responsibility were predictors of Obsessive Passion, where- as Satisfaction with life, Openness to experience and Kindness were nega- tive predictors.

Estudios recientes has sugerido que hay relación entre algunas variables de personalidad y la adicción al trabajo. En el presente trabajo nos hemos planteado el objetivo de realizar un estudio Predictivo de las varia- bles antecedentes del Work Craving a través de las variables Impulsividad, Personalidad, Perfeccionismo, Autoestima y Autoeficacia.: Los participan- tes han sido 332 trabajadores, obtenidos mediante un muestreo no proba- bilístico. Para analizar los datos se ha utilizado el programa SPSS 23.0. Los resultados del análisis de correlación nos muestran asociaciones tanto posi- tivas como negativas con las variables estudiadas. El análisis de regresión determina la capacidad predictiva de las variables Estabilidad emocional, Perfeccionismo y Autoestima que explican el 24.40 % de la varianza de los Sentimientos Generados por el Trabajo (WCS.FW). Y las variables Estabi- lidad emocional y Autoestima explican el 14.0 % de la Necesidad de traba- jar (WCS.NW). Se puede concluir que el Work Craving puede predecirse a través de determinadas variables (Estabilidad emocional, Perfeccionismo y Autoestima), contribuyendo la presente investigación a un mayor conoci- miento de la Adicción al Trabajo. Los resultados poseen implicaciones prácticas importantes que debe considerarse para la gestión estratégica ade- cuada de los recursos humanos dentro de las organizaciones. Recent studies have suggested a relationship between certain personality variables and work addiction. In the present work we conduct a predictive study of the background variables of work craving through the variables Impulsivity, Personality, Perfectionism, Self-esteem and Self- efficacy. The participants were 332 workers obtained by non-probability sampling. We used the SPSS 23.0 program. The results of the correlation analysis show positive and negative associations with the variables studied. The regression analysis determines the predictive capacity of variables Emotional Stability, Perfectionism and Self-esteem account for 24.40% of the variance of Feelings Generated by Work (WCS.FW). And the predic- tor variables Emotional stability and Self-esteem account for 14.0% of the Need to Work (WCS.NW). It can be concluded that Work craving can be predicted through certain variables (Emotional Stability, Perfectionism and Self-esteem). This research contributes to greater knowledge of work ad- diction. The results have important practical implications to work that should be considered for the appropriate strategic management of human resources within organizations. Antecedentes: Los conductores profesionales suelen padecer problemas para dormir o descansar correctamente. Esto puede deberse a diversos factores tanto personales como específicos de las condiciones laborales. En el presente trabajo nos hemos planteado desarrollar un modelo predictivo sobre la calidad del sueño en conductores profesionales utilizando los indicadores siguientes: Edad, Género, Confort del asiento, suspensión del asiento, Soporte lumbar ajustable del asiento del conductor, Horas de conducción, Problemas musculoesqueléticos, Drivers Stress, Irritación, Personalidad resistente, Burnout, conductas de seguridad e Impulsividad. Método: Los participantes han sido 369 conductores profesionales, de distintos sectores del transporte, obtenidos mediante un muestreo no probabilístico. Se han utilizado el programa SPSS 25.0. Resultados: Se determina la capacidad predictiva de algunas variables que afectan a los conductores sobre la calidad del sueño. Conclusiones: La calidad del sueño se puede predecir a través de determinadas variables, siendo la mejor predictora Exhaustion (Burnout). Esta investigación contribuye a un mayor conocimiento de la calidad del sueño y a la mejora de la salud de los conductores profesionales. Background: Professional drivers often have problems sleeping or resting properly. This may be due to various factors, both personal and specific to their working conditions. In this study, we set out to develop a predictive model for the quality of sleep in professional drivers using the following indicators: Age, Gender, Seat Comfort, Seat Suspension, Adjustable Lumbar Support of the Driver’s Seat, Driving Hours, Musculoskeletal Problems, Driver Stress, Irritation, Resistant Personality, Burnout, Safety Behaviors and Impulsivity. Method: The participants were 369 professional drivers from different transport sectors, obtained through non-probabilistic sampling. The SPSS 25.0 program was used for statistical analysis. Results: The predictive capacity of certain variables that affect drivers’ sleep quality is determined. Conclusions: Sleep quality can be predicted by means of certain variables, the best predictor of which is Exhaustion (Burnout). This research contributes to the body of knowledge on sleep quality and on improving the health of professional drivers.

El objetivo del presente estudio es analizar si la curiosidad es una variable moderadora entre la Impulsividad y la Orientación Emprendedora. Se utiliza una muestra multiocupacional de 883 empleados españoles (49 % hombres, 51 % mujeres), obtenidos mediante un muestreo no probabilístico. Se ha utilizado el programa SPSS 23.0. Se encontraron correlaciones estadísticamente significativas entre todas las variables de la investigación a excepcion de la impulsividad Funcional. Finalmente, la evidencia empírica indica que la Curiosidad-D tiene un papel moderador entre la impulsividad Disfuncional y la Orientación Emprendedora mostrada, en el sentido de que la Curiosidad-D (entendida como una variable cuantitativa) afecta la intensidad de la relación entre la Impulsividad Disfuncional (variable predictora) y la Orientación Emprendedora (variable de criterio). The objective of the present study is to analyze whether the variable Curiosity is a moderating variable between Impulsivity and Entrepreneurial Orientation. The multi-occupational sample of 883 Spanish and Colombian employees (49% men, 51% women) was obtained through non-probabilistic sampling. The data collected were processed with the SPSS 23.0 program. Statistically significant correlations were found among all the research variables except for Functional Impulsivity. Finally, empirical evidence indicates that Curiosity-D plays a moderating role between Dysfunctional Impulsivity and Entrepreneurial Orientation in the sense that Curiosity-D (understood as a quantitative variable) affects the intensity of the relationship between Dysfunctional Impulsivity (predictor variable) and Entrepreneurial Orientation (criterion variable).

Recent studies show that quarantine and lockdown are effective measures for controlling COVID-19 outbreaks, but may be an unpleasant experience with psychological consequences. For this reason, the main aim of this study was to determine which personal sociodemographic and psychological variables are related to adapting to lockdown in a Spanish population. Questionnaires were administered to 2,055 individuals (60.7% women) who were resident in Spain and aged between 18 and 80 years old. We also administered some items related to feelings and behaviors during lockdown. The results showed that sex and age are variables to be taken into account. In fact, women tended to show greater stress, a more pessimistic attitude, and lower self-esteem. However, older people adapted better to lockdown although they were also more worried. Married people also adapted better although they too were more worried. The results also showed that more resilient people, with higher subjective happiness and life satisfaction, develop strategies for adapting positively to adversity, and tend to adapt better to lockdown, with more positive attitudes and behaviors. In terms of personality traits, higher neuroticism and lower extraversion were related to worse adaptation to lockdown. This study also showed that lockdown has had a negative psychological impact on those people who did not adapt well to the situation and the changes during the first 4 weeks of lockdown.

Background Professional drivers are susceptible to stress, which places both their own health and road safety at risk. For this reason the present study aims to create a short Spanish scale from the 59 items on the Bus Driver Risk Index (BDRI; Dorn, Stephen, af Wahlberg, & Gandolfi, 2010), and to analyse its internal structure, reliability and evidence of validity. Method The participants were 372 Spanish drivers (93.4% male, 6.6% female), obtained by non-probabilistic sampling. The programs SPSS 20.0 and AMOS (5.0) were used. Results The Trans Driver Stress scale (TDS-15) provides a five-factor solution with 15 items, adequate reliability and appropriate evidence of validity. Through a confirmatory factor analysis, the following indicators (NFI = 90, TLI = .92; CFI = .91; RMSEA = .06) were obtained from the AMOS program (5.0) indicating that the five factor model has an acceptable fit. Evidences of validity are also proved with: SSQ-15, MBI-GS, Irritation, MP-9, DII and Trans-18. Conclusions The Trans Driver Stress scale (TDS-15) is a reliable and valid instrument, suitable for use in Spanish to evaluate the stress experienced by professional drivers in the transport industry.

One possible hypothesis for personality differentiation is the higher reliability of high-ability individuals in typical response measures. This differential reliability has been explained as resulting from different verbal abilities as a consequence of the difficulties that low-ability individuals have in understanding items, or as the effect of response bias, or due to higher precision in the answers of high-ability individuals. The lack of an estimation of individual reliability has made it difficult to test these hypotheses. However, recent psychometric advances have made it possible to measure person reliability and thus address the issue. The present study analyses the relationships between person reliability measures and the response bias of different personality measures in measurements of intelligence in a sample of 532 adolescents. The results show that person reliability is more closely related to general intelligence than to specific abilities and that the results for low-ability individuals cannot be explained by verbal deficits or by higher levels of acquiescence or social desirability. The differential reliability of measures across ability levels therefore seems to be related to higher levels of traitedness in high-ability individuals, i.e. traits are represented in them with greater strength and clarity.

The Childhood Autism Spectrum Test (CAST; Scott, Baron-Cohen, Bolton & Brayne, 2002) has proved to be a good test for screening autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and social communication problems. This study provides evidence on its psychometric properties, describe its validity for screening and provides data on its discriminative capabilities in a Spanish sample of 4-12 year-old children from community and clinical settings (N = 1460 and 36, respectively). Factorial and convergent validity is also assessed. The full Spanish version with a cut-off score of 15 presented a high sensitivity (83.9%) and specificity (92.5%), a positive predictive value (PPV) of .63 and an internal consistency (α) of .826. Some items showed low discriminating power and these results led us to propose a reduced version with 28 items and a cut-off score of 13, which presented a high sensitivity (85.7%) and specificity (91.16%), a PPV of .61 and an α of .839. Correlations were high between the Spanish full and reduced versions of the CAST, and ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised) and ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition). Like previous adaptation studies, a two-factor structure was found. The data show that the CAST can be a valid and reliable questionnaire for ASD screening in Spanish clinical and community populations. The suitability of using reversed items in typical response measures has been a matter of controversy for many years. While some authors recommend their use, others reject them due to their undesirable effects on tests' psychometric properties. The present research intends to analyse a third alternative based on the use of reversed items plus a procedure to control response bias effects.We analysed two forms of the same test, one with direct and reversed items and another composed only of direct items, and compared them both before and after applying a procedure to control response biases.The factorial structure and factorial reliability of both versions was almost equivalent after controlling response biases. When no effect biases were controlled, the version with both types of items exhibited less acceptable psychometric properties.The use of reversed items is not advisable without the application of a procedure to control response bias effects. When such effects are mitigated, the results are equivalent to those obtained with only direct items, but with the added value of controlling for acquiescence effects.

Professional drivers are considered prone to health risks. For this reason we have conducted a predictive study to analyze variables that may be predictors of stress in driving. Participating in this study were 372 drivers (93.4% men, 6.6% women) recruited through non-probabilistic sampling. The aim of the study is to develop a prediction model for job stress in professional drivers using the following indicators: personality, impulsiveness, hardy personality, job, age, seat comfort, seat suspension, lumbar support and driving hours. Callous-unemotional traits are defined as potential markers of psychopathy in children and adolescents. Previous studies with the most widely used instrument designed specifically to assess these traits, the Inventory of Callous-Unemotional Traits (ICU), have shown major methodological problems. For this reason, the purpose of the present study was to develop a valid and reliable test to assess callous-unemotional traits for the adolescent population free of the response biases social desirability (SD) and acquiescence (AC). In order to obtain responses free of these biases, we used SD item markers as well as content balanced items to identify a factor related to SD and AC, so that SD and AC effects can be removed from the individual scores on content factors. As well as the CU traits (unemotional, callousness, and uncaring scales), this new questionnaire also contains an additional scale for assessing antisocial behaviors. The test was administered to 719 adolescents between 13 and 19 years old. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis yielded the following expected four dimensions with a good fit: Unemotional, Callousness, Uncaring, and Antisocial Behavior. These scales also showed good psychometric properties with good reliability, and convergent, discriminant and criterion validity.

Este estudio expone las propiedades psicométricas de la escala TRANS-18 y de una versión más corta, el TRANS-12, ambos diseñados para detectar conductas seguras (personales y relacionadas con el vehículo) y trastornos psicofisiológicos entre conductores profesionales. Método: La investigación se divide en dos. Estudio 1, estructura factorial, fiabilidad y validez del TRANS-18, y Estudio 2, se estudian los mismos as- pectos en el TRANS-12. Los participantes en ambos estudios fueron resi- dentes en España. 272 conductores profesionales participaron en el Estu- dio 1, mientras que el Estudio 2 participaron 326 conductores. Resultados: Se realizó un análisis factorial confirmatorio para ambos estudios. Los re- sultados del Estudio 1 confirman una estructura interna de tres factores re- lacionados con los trastornos psicofisiológicos y las conductas de seguridad personales y con el vehículo, pero el TRANS-18 original se descarta por no ajustarse al modelo. Con respecto al Estudio 2, los resultados muestran un buen ajuste del modelo de tres factores, la fiabilidad apropiada y la eviden- cia de validez. Conclusiones: Concluimos considerando la idoneidad de las propiedades psicométricas del TRANS-12 y su utilidad para identificar comportamientos seguros en el trabajo en la industria del transporte. This study sets out the psychometric properties of the TRANS-18 scale and of a shorter version, the TRANS-12, both de- signed to detect safe behaviors (personal and vehicle-related) and psycho- physiological disorders among professional drivers. Method: The investiga- tion was divided into Study 1, into the factorial structure, reliability and va- lidity of the TRANS-18, and Study 2, looking into the same aspects of the TRANS-12. The participants in both studies were resident in Spain. 272 professional drivers took part in Study 1, while Study 2 had 326 partici- pants. Results: A confirmatory factor analysis was carried out for both stud- ies. The results for Study 1 confirm an internal structure of three factors related to psychophysiological disorders and personal and vehicle-related safety behaviors, but the original TRANS-18 is discarded because it does not fit the model. With regard to Study 2, the results show a good fit of the three-factor model, appropriate reliability and evidence of validity. Con- clusions: We conclude by considering the suitability of the psychometric properties of the TRANS-12 and its utility for identifying safe behaviors in work in the transport industry.

Differential reliability associated with ability level has been proposed as a possible (partial or total) explanation of personality differentiation across ability levels: that is to say, high ability individuals have more differentiated personalities. Recent studies have shown that person reliability is related to general intelligence, which is necessary to support this hypothesis. The present study analysed the factorial structure and variability of a personality measure (Revised NEO Personality Inventory) in a sample of 7988 adult job applicants to test whether the effects of personality differentiation hypotheses are present and whether they are modified depending on person reliability. The results showed that the dimensionality reflected by the factorial structure of the test depended on ability levels, but this effect was not found when the analysis was performed using individuals with higher person reliability. As regards the variability of scores, as in previous research the ability effects were almost negligible. The results relating to the factorial structure were coherent with the hypothesis that personality differentiation across ability levels may be reflecting an issue of differential reliability.

With the aim of providing new evidence and a practical instrument to measure co-innovative sources of productivity in tourism small and medium enterprises (SMEs), this article presents a newly designed questionnaire that has been validated by exploratory factor analysis. The empirical study was conducted on a representative sample of 500 tourism SMEs in Catalonia (a region in north-eastern Spain). Three factors emerged from the analysis: (1) Internet use; (2) firm innovation; and (3) new forms of work organization. Together, these factors explained 45.4% of cumulative variance. The reliability coefficients obtained for the three factors were high (α1 = 0.76; α2 = 0.72; and α3 = 0.71). The study also identified a specific form of co-innovation in SMEs, which is based on bringing radically innovative products and services to the market, and on Internet use and work organization practices that are clearly orientated towards increasing income and optimizing resources. Background: Nomophobia, which is a neologism derived from the combination of “no mobile,” “phone,” and “phobia” is considered to be a modern situational phobia and indicates a fear of feeling disconnected.\ud \ud \ud \ud Objective: No psychometric scales are available in Italian for investigating such a construct. We therefore planned a translation and validation study of the Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q), which is an instrument developed by Yildirim and Correia. Subjects were recruited via an online survey using a snowball approach.\ud \ud \ud \ud Methods: The NMP-Q was translated from English into Italian using a classical “backwards and forwards” procedure. In order to explore the underlying factor structure of the translated questionnaire, an exploratory factor analysis was carried out. A principal component analysis approach with varimax rotation was performed. Multivariate regression analyses were computed to shed light on the psychological predictors of nomophobia.\ud \ud \ud \ud Results: A sample of 403 subjects volunteered to take part in the study. The average age of participants was 27.91 years (standard deviation 8.63) and the sample was comprised of 160 males (160/403, 39.7%) and 243 females (243/403, 60.3%). Forty-five subjects spent less than 1 hour on their mobile phone per day (45/403, 11.2%), 94 spent between 1 and 2 hours (94/403, 23.3%), 69 spent between 2 and 3 hours (69/403, 17.1%), 58 spent between 3 and 4 hours (58/403, 14.4%), 48 spent between 4 and 5 hours (48/403, 11.9%), 29 spent between 5 and 7 hours (29/403, 7.2%), 36 spent between 7 and 9 hours (36/403, 8.9%), and 24 spent more than 10 hours (24/403, 6.0%). The eigenvalues and scree plot supported a 3-factorial nature of the translated questionnaire. The NMP-Q showed an overall Cronbach alpha coefficient of 0.95 (0.94, 0.89, and 0.88 for the three factors). The first factor explained up to 23.32% of the total variance, while the second and third factors explained up to 23.91% and 18.67% of the variance, respectively. The total NMP-Q score correlated with the number of hours spent on a mobile phone.\ud \ud \ud \ud Conclusions: The Italian version of the NMP-Q proved to be reliable.

The psycho-lexical approach was used to identify virtues in a Spanish population. A total of 209 descriptors were identified as virtues and administered to 485 participants, who were instructed to indicate the extent to which each virtue term applied to them. Principal Components Analysis revealed seven factors: Self-confidence, Reflection, Serenity, Rectitude, Perseverance & Effort, Compassion, and Sociability. The results showed that there was no simple one-to-one correspondence between these factors and those obtained in previous studies. However, the results are congruent with those obtained in other studies as far as the relation between virtues and personality traits is concerned.

The present study analyses the relationships between differentmeasures of intelligence and an overall estimate of “g” with direct and indirect forms of aggression and impulsivity in a sample of adolescents (N=532). The results showed that impulsivity and intelligence showed a different pattern of relationshipswith different forms of aggression.While intelligence measures were more related to indirect aggression, particularly to the g factor estimate, impulsivity was more related to direct forms of aggression. Furthermore, the relationships observed between aggression and intelligence cannot be explained by impulsivity having the same effect on both kinds of measure and are independent of sex effects. Taking everything into account, intelligence should be regarded as a relevant predictor for the prevention of aggressive behaviour in adolescents, particularly indirect aggression.

Diversos estudios muestran que los tests de personalidad pue- den verse afectados por los sesgos de respuesta, lo que puede tener conse- cuencias en su estructura factorial, especialmente en muestras con bajo ni- vel educativo o adolescentes. El objetivo del presente estudio consiste en determinar cuál es el efecto de la deseabilidad social y la aquiescencia en la estructura factorial de tres cuestionarios basados en el modelo de los Cinco Grandes factores de personalidad: Big Five Inventory, Five Factor Persona- lity Inventory y Overall Personality Assessment Scale. Los datos se analiza- ron a partir de un nuevo método que elimina los efectos de la deseabilidad social y la aquiescencia de la matriz de correlaciones inter-item utilizada en el análisis factorial. La muestra está compuesta por 392 estudiantes universi- tarios, por lo que no incluye individuos con bajo nivel educativo, niños o adolescentes. Los resultados indican que, incluso en muestras sin individuos con bajo nivel educativo, controlar la deseabilidad social y la aquiescencia da lugar a una estructura factorial más simple y congruente con la solución teórica esperada a partir del modelo de los Cinco Grandes. Además, los re- sultados sugieren que en los tests basados en este modelo, este efecto pue- de ser debido especialmente a la aquiescencia. Several studies have shown that personality self-reports may be affected by response biases, and that this may have consequences on their factor structure, especially in samples with little education or in adolescents. The current study aims to understand the effect of social desirability and acquiescence on the factor structure of three questionnaires based on the Five Factor Model of personality: the Big Five Inventory, the Five Factor Personality Inventory and the Overall Personality Assessment Scale. The data was analysed using a new method that removes the effects of both so- cial desirability and acquiescence from the inter-item correlation matrix used for factor analysis. These effects were assessed in a sample of 392 university students, which contained no individuals with low educational levels, children or adolescents. The results showed that, even in samples with no individuals with low educational levels, controlling for social desir- ability and acquiescence led to a simpler factor structure that is more con- gruent with the theoretical solution expected from the five factor model. It also seems that in the domain of inventories based upon the five factor model, this effect may be specially due to acquiescence.

Passion for work has a great influence on workers' occupational health. Vallerand and his collaborators define two types of passion: harmonious and obsessive. With the first, people feel obliged to carry out an activity but freely decide to do it and do so in harmony with other aspects of their lives. With the second, although the person likes the activity, they feel obliged to take part in it because of internal circumstances that exercise control over them. In this context, our objective was to adapt Vallerand and Houlfort's Passion Toward Work Scale (PTWS) into Spanish. The participants were 513 workers selected through non-probability sampling. We used the FACTOR (version 7.2), SPSS 20.0 and Mplus 6.12 programs. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis (exploratory structural equation modelling) of the PTWS support the two-factor model (harmonious passion and obsessive passion), presenting appropriate reliability and evidence of validity with burnout, irritation, engagement and self-efficacy. The PTW scale and questionnaire are therefore reliable and valid instruments that are suitable for use in Spanish. La pasión por el trabajo tiene una gran influencia en la salud laboral de los trabajadores. Vallerand y sus colaboradores proponen dos tipos de pasión, la armoniosa y la obsesiva. En la primera las personas se sienten obligadas a realizar una actividad, pero libremente deciden hacerla y además se encuentra en armonía con otros aspectos de la vida de la persona. Y en la segunda, aunque a las personas les guste una actividad, se sienten obligados a participar en ella a causa de contingencias internas que los controlan. En este contexto, el objetivo planteado fue la adaptación al castellano de la Escala de Pasión por el Trabajo (PTW) de Vallerand y Houlfort. Los participantes han sido 513 trabajadores, obtenidos mediante un muestreo no probabilístico. Se han utilizado los programas FACTOR (versión 7.2), SPSS 20.0 y Mplus 6.12. En la escala PTW, los resultados del AFC (ESEM) apoyan el modelo de dos factores (Pasión Armoniosa y Pasión Obsesiva), presentando una fiabilidad adecuada e indicios de validez con: agotamiento, irritación, compromiso y autoeficacia. Las Escala PTW es un instrumento fiable y válido, adecuado para ser usado en castellano. La passió per la feina té una gran influència en la salut laboral dels treballadors. A la primera les persones se senten obligades a realitzar una activitat, però lliurement decideixen fer-la i a més es troba en harmonia amb altres aspectes de la vida de la persona. I en la segona, tot i que a les persones els agradi una activitat, se senten obligades a participar-hi a causa de contingències internes que les controlen. En aquest context, l'objectiu plantejat va ser l'adaptació al castellà de la Passion Toward Work Scale (PTW) de Vallerand i Houlfort. Els participants han estat 513 treballadors, obtinguts mitjançant un mostreig no probabilístic. S'han utilitzat els programes FACTOR (versió 7.2), SPSS 20.0 i Mplus 6.12. En l'escala PTW, els resultats de l'AFC (ESEM) donen suport al model de dos factors (Passió Harmoniosa i Passió Obsessiva), presentant una fiabilitat adequada i indicis de validesa amb: esgotament, irritació, compromís i autoeficàcia. L'Escala PTW és un instrument fiable i vàlid, adequat per a ser usat en castellà.

En el presente artículo se estudian las propiedades psicométricas de la escala ELBus-21 que permite evaluar los estresores laborales que son propios de los conductores de autobuses españoles. Los participantes de la presente investigación son 287 conductores de autobuses (80.1% hombres y 19.9% mujeres) de tres radios de acción: urbano, interurbano y discrecional. Los resultados obtenidos constatan, después de realizar un análisis factorial exploratorio de la escala, una estructura constituida por tres factores quehacen referencia a las condiciones del tráfico, a la sobrecarga y la fatiga, y a la falta de confort personal. Además, los tres factores obtenidos tienen una fiabilidad adecuada. Igualmente, se constatan indicios de validez de los tres factores si se toman como referencia el estrés, los trastornos psicofisiológicos, las conductas de seguridad en el vehículo, la autonomía en el puesto de trabajo y algunos correlatos empíricos. En suma, la presente escala puede resultar idónea para identificar de manera apropiada los estresores laborales en los conductores de autobuses españoles. La escala ELBus-21 puede ser utilizada como un inventario de screening en combinación con otros instrumentos.

Antecedentes: Los estilos de vida tienen una gran influencia en la salud laboral de los trabajadores. En este contexto, el objetivo planteado fue la adaptación al castellano de la Escala HPLP-II de Walker and Hill-Polerecky en población trabajadora. Los factores que mide la escala original son 6 y se corresponden con Actividad física, Crecimiento espiritual, Manejo del estrés, Nutrición, Relaciones interpersonales y Responsabilidad hacia la salud. Método: Los participantes han sido 513 trabajadores (48,1 % hombres, 51,9 % mujeres), obtenidos mediante un muestreo no probabilístico. Se han utilizado los programas FACTOR (versión 7.2) y SPSS 20.0. Resultados: En la escala HPLP-II, los resultados apoyan una solución de cuatro factores reduciéndose el número de ítems de 52 a 48, presentando una fiabilidad adecuada (Responsabilidad hacia la salud = .81, Actividad física = .86, Nutrición = .70 y Crecimiento espiritual y relaciones interpersonales = .88) e indicios de validez con: MBI-GS, Autoeficacia, Satisfacción con la Vida y Engagement. Conclusiones: Las Escala HPLP-II es un instrumento fiable y válido, adecuado para ser usado en español.

Linear factor analysis (FA) is, possibly, the most widely used model in psychometric applications based on graded-response or more continuous items. However, in these applications consistency at the individual level (person fit) is virtually never assessed. The aim of the present study is to propose a simple and workable approach to routinely assess person fit in FA-based studies. To do so, we first consider five potentially appropriate indices, of which one is a new proposal and the other is a modification of an existing index. Next, the effectiveness of these indices is assessed by using (a) a thorough simulation study that attempts to mimic realistic conditions, and (b) an illustrative example based on real data. Results suggest that the mean-squared lico index and the personal correlation work well in conjunction and can function effectively for detecting different types of inconsistency. Finally future directions and lines of research are discussed.

Various studies have shown that acquiescence can distort the factor structure of personality questionnaires based on the five-factor model.nbsp; In the present study, we analysed how acquiescence and social desirability affect the factor structure of a measure based on this personality model and a measure of aggression.We analysed the factor structures of both tests before and after removing both biases in a sample of 532 adolescents aged between 11 and 18 (M= 14.75, SD= 2.1).The factor structure of both tests presented a worse fit to the expected model when response bias was not controlled, and the congruence indexes for the personality and aggression measures showed a moderate (from C= .948 to C= .872) or great (from C= .931 to C= .475) decrease, respectively. Furthermore, acquiescence was largely responsible for these effects, and social desirability effects were only shown on the aggression measure.nbsp; Response bias, and especially acquiescence, should be controlled during the development of personality measures to avoid distorting them, especially with samples of people with a high level of acquiescence (for example, those with little education, the young or the elderly). Furthermore, the use of response bias loadings as a criterion for choosing the items minimizes those distortions.

Recent studies have pointed to a relationship between personality variables, engagement, and the lifestyle of workers with workaholism. Our goal in the present study is to carry out a predictive study of the pre-existing variables for workaholism.nbsp; Method : The study sample participants were 513 workers (48.1 % men, 51.9 % women), obtained through non-probability sampling. The programmes used were FACTOR (7.2 version) and SPSS 20.0.We found that personality variables such as engagement, self-efficacy, obsessive-compulsive component (ICO), satisfaction with life and lifestyle were predictive of workaholism.Workaholism can, in fact, be predicted through certain variables (personality, engagement, self-efficacy, ICO, satisfaction with life and lifestyle) and hence, the present study contributes to a better understanding of workaholism and to furthering a healthy life style which may be affected by workaholism.

The Childhood Autism Spectrum Test (CAST; Scott, Baron-Cohen, BoltonBrayne, 2002) has proved to be a good test for screening autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and social communication problems. This study provides evidence on its psychometric properties, describe its validity for screening and provides data on its discriminative capabilities in a Spanish sample of 4-12 year-old children from community and clinical settings (N = 1460 and 36, respectively). Factorial and convergent validity is also assessed. The full Spanish version with a cut-off score of 15 presented a high sensitivity (83.9%) and specificity (92.5%), a positive predictive value (PPV) of .63 and an internal consistency (α) of .826. Some items showed low discriminating power and these results led us to propose a reduced version with 28 items and a cut-off score of 13, which presented a high sensitivity (85.7%) and specificity (91.16%), a PPV of .61 and an α of .839. Correlations were high between the Spanish full and reduced versions of the CAST, and ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised) and ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition). Like previous adaptation studies, a two-factor structure was found. The data show that the CAST can be a valid and reliable questionnaire for ASD screening in Spanish clinical and community populations. Entrepreneurship is linked to the perception of opportunities, to orientation, to attitudes, to the fear of failure and to entrepreneurial motivations. Entrepreneurial orientation is a fundamental construct for understanding the phenomenon of entrepreneurship. What is more, it is multidimensional and has attracted considerable attention from researchers in recent years. The objective of this study was to adapt the original 12-item English scale to Spanish and to analyze its psychometric properties. The participants in the present study were 925 Spanish employees (48.2% men, 51.5% women, M age = 42.49 years, SD age = 11.25) from the Autonomous Communities of Catalonia and Castilla-León. After applying an ESEM (RMSEA = .06; CFI = .97 and TLI = .95) a structure was determined made up of four factors which corroborated the structure of the original scale: Autonomy (α = .71 and CI = .68 – .73), Innovativeness (α = .70 and CI = .67 – .73), Risk Taking (α = .72 and CI = .68 – .74) and Competitive Aggressiveness (α = .70 and CI = .67 – .73). The four factors displayed suitable reliability. The study also found evidences of validity in relation to a series of external correlates and various scales which refer to workaholism, irritation and burnout. The scale presented here may prove useful for satisfactorily identifying, in Spanish, the entrepreneurial orientation of the working population.

The objective was to adapt the original French scale of 17 items into Spanish and to analyze its psychometric properties. The participants in the present study were 981 Spanish employees (46.5 % men and 53.5 % women). After carrying out exploratory factor analyses and ESEM (RMSEA = .06; CFI = .95 and TLI = .95), revealed a structure comprised of three factors: Family security (a =.82), Independence and autonomy (a =.83), and Intrinsic motivations (a =.77). These three factors displayed adequate reliability. We also found evidence of validity with regard to a series of external correlates and various scales that have to do with workaholism, irritation and burnout. The present scale may prove useful for adequately identifying entrepreneurial motivation. Este estudio sigue el marco teórico propuesto por Robichaud sobre motivación emprendedora. El objetivo fue adaptar la escala original francesa de 17 ítems al español y analizar sus propiedades psicométricas. Los participantes del presente estudio fueron 981 empleados españoles (46.5% hombres y 53.5% mujeres). Después de llevar a cabo el análisis factorial exploratorio y el ESEM (RMSEA = .06; CFI = .95 y TLI = .95), se determinó una estructura compuesta de tres factores: Seguridad de la familia (a =.82), Independencia y autonomía (a =.83) y Motivaciones intrínsecas (a =.77). Los tres factores muestran una fiabilidad adecuada. También se encuentran evidencias de validez respecto a una serie de correlatos externos y varias escalas que hacen alusión a la adicción al trabajo, la irritación y el burnout. La presente escala puede resultar adecuada para identificar adecuadamente la motivación emprendedora.

Este estudio presenta la adaptación colombiana del Cuestionario de Agresividad de Buss y Perry para preadolescentes y adolescentes, desarrollado a partir de la versión española abreviada de 20 ítems. Dicha adaptación se administró a una muestra de 535 niños (269 niños y 266 niñas) con un rango de edades de 8-16 años, pertenecientes a tres colegios del área metropolitana de Bucaramanga. Los resultados del análisis factorial confirmatorio indican un buen ajuste al modelo de cuatro factores que ha sido descrita para otros idiomas y adaptaciones. El test presentó una fiabilidad satisfactoria para la escala total (α = 0.82) y para la escala de agresividad física (α = 0.75), mientras que para las demás escalas varía en función de la edad, no siendo recomendable su aplicación en edades inferiores a los 12 años. Al analizar los efectos del sexo sobre la agresividad, se verificó que dicho efecto se debía exclusivamente a las diferencias en agresividad física. Finalmente, se pone de manifiesto la importancia de considerar los aspectos culturales y lingüísticos en la adaptación de un instrumento, incluso, como en este caso, cuando se trata del mismo idioma.

The aim of the present study is to determine the structure of values in the Spanish population and its relation to the Big Five personality traits. Using a psycholexical approach, 566 words were identified as values and administered to a sample of participants who were instructed to rate the extent to which they were guided by each value. Principal components analysis revealed seven factors: Social Recognition, Competence, Love and Happiness, Benevolence, Idealism, Equilibrium and Family. The results show that there is no complete equivalence between these factors and those obtained in previous studies. However, the results are congruent with those obtained in other studies as far as the relation between values and personality traits is concerned. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Background: Resistance to change is the tendency to resist or avoid making changes; in addition, change is perceived as aversive. Resistance to change is a professional competence that can be evaluated. Objective: To adapt from the original English into Spanish the Resistance to Change Scale (RTC) by Oreg (2003) in two countries, Spain and Argentina. Method: The participants were 482 employed workers from Spain (Study 1) and 171 managers from Argentina (Study 2). Results: The results are presented in two studies and an unifactorial structure is demonstrated after exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) are performed. The factor obtained has adequate reliability and evidence of validity is also confirmed if some external correlates and certain scales dealing with pro/anti-change behaviors, self-efficacy, the hardy personality and impulsivity are taken as references. Conclusions: This scale could be an ideal instrument for correctly identifying RTC and it can be used as a screening tool in combination with other instruments. Resumen Antecedentes: La resistencia al cambio es la tendencia a resistir o evitar hacer cambios; además, el cambio se percibe como aversivo. La resistencia al cambio es una competencia profesional que puede ser evaluada. Objetivo: Ha sido realizar una adaptación al español de la Resistance to Change Scale (RTC) de Oreg (2003) del original inglés en dos países, España y Argentina. Método: Los participantes son 482 empleados de España (Estudio 1) y 171 directivos de Argentina (Estudio 2). Resultados: Se presentan los resultados en dos estudios y se demuestra una estructura unifactorial, después de realizar el análisis factorial exploratorio (EFA) y el análisis factorial confirmatorio (CFA). Además, el factor obtenido tiene una fiabilidad adecuada e igualmente se constatan evidencias de validez si se toman como referencia algunos correlatos externos y algunas escalas que hacen referencia a conductas pro/anti-cambio (pro/anti-change behaviors), la autoeficacia (self-efficacy), la personalidad resistente (hardy personality) y la impulsividad (impulsivity). Conclusiones: la presente escala puede resultar idónea para identificar de manera apropiada la RTC y puede ser utilizada como una herramienta de screening en combinación con otros instrumentos.

Given difficulty in having children assess their own behaviour, there are few self reports on child impulsivity. With the exception of Eysenck's 16 questionnaire, there are no self-report measures of impulsivity in children with good psychometric properties. The present study tested the possibility of using the adolescent version of the Barrati Impulsiveness Scale-11 with children. For this purpose the questionnaire was translated and backtranslated and administered to school children (182 boys and 195 girls) ages 8 to 12 years ( M = 10.4, SD = 0.9). The data were analysed by exploratory factor analysis, to evaluate the factorial structure of the questionnaire, the fit of the proposed solution, and internal consistency reliabilities. Results seem to indicate that this questionnaire may be useful in assessing impulsivity in children. The three-factor structure showed slight differences with the initial questionnaire proposed by Barratt and had good or sufficient internal consistency (depending upon the scale) across the 8- to 12-yr.-old age range.

There are few self-reports of impulsivity dealing with children, although this personality trait has been related to many behaviour problems in both children and adolescents. The appropriateness of the Dickman Impulsivity Inventory for Children (DII-c) and the Dickman Impulsivity Inventory (DII) to measure impulsivity in children and adolescents was assessed. The factorial structure of the DII-c and the internal consistencies for both inventories suggest the measured dimensions are not consistent until adulthood. These self-report measures are not appropriate for children and adolescents.

A reduced version of the Five-factor Personality Inventory, which only considers two of the five original dimensions, was constructed to assess Extraversion and Emotional Stability especially for a sample of 581 adolescents. This used Items 6, 9, 11, 19, 21, 39, 41, 46, 54, 59, 61, 66, 84, 89, 91, and 99. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis showed that the factor structure of the questionnaire is acceptable, and both scales are reliable and correlated with similar measures as The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire–Revised.
