We report on the discovery and validation of a transiting long-period mini-Neptune orbiting a bright ( V = 9.0 mag) G dwarf (TOI 4633; R = 1.05 R _⊙ , M = 1.10 M _⊙ ). The planet was identified in data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite by citizen scientists taking part in the Planet Hunters TESS project. Modelling of the transit events yields an orbital period of 271.9445 ± 0.0040 days and radius of 3.2 ± 0.20 R _⊕ . The Earth-like orbital period and an incident flux of ${1.56}_{-0.16}^{+0.20}$ F _⊕ places it in the optimistic habitable zone around the star. Doppler spectroscopy of the system allowed us to place an upper mass limit on the transiting planet and revealed a non-transiting planet candidate in the system with a period of 34.15 ± 0.15 days. Furthermore, the combination of archival data dating back to 1905 with new high angular resolution imaging revealed a stellar companion orbiting the primary star with an orbital period of around 230 yr and an eccentricity of about 0.9. The long period of the transiting planet, combined with the high eccentricity and close approach of the companion star makes this a valuable system for testing the formation and stability of planets in binary systems.

We confirm a massive sub-Neptune-sized planet on a P = 22.8 days orbit around the star TOI-1824 ( T _eff = 5200 K, V = 9.7 mag). TESS first identified TOI-1824 b (formerly TOI-1824.01) as an object of interest in 2020 April after two transits in Sector 22 were matched with a single transit in Sector 21. TOI-1824 was subsequently targeted for ground-based Doppler monitoring with Keck-HIRES and APF-Levy. Using a joint model of the TESS photometry, radial velocities, and Ca ii H and K emission measurements as an activity indicator, we find that TOI-1824 b is an unusually dense sub-Neptune. The planet has a radius R _p = 2.63 ± 0.15 R _⊕ and mass M _p = 18.5 ± 3.2 M _⊕ , implying a bulk density of 5.6 ± 1.4 g cm ^−3 . TOI-1824 b's mass and radius situate it near a small group of “superdense sub-Neptunes” ( R _p ≲ 3 R _⊕ and M _p ≳ 20 M _⊕ ). While the formation mechanism of superdense sub-Neptunes is a mystery, one possible explanation is the constructive collision of primordial icy cores; such giant impacts would drive atmospheric escape and could help explain these planets' apparent lack of massive envelopes. We discuss TOI-1824 b in the context of these overdense planets, whose unique location in the exoplanet mass–radius plane make them a potentially valuable tracer of planet formation.

The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) has discovered hundreds of new worlds, with TESS planet candidates now outnumbering the total number of confirmed planets from Kepler. Owing to differences in survey design, TESS continues to provide planets that are better suited for subsequent follow-up studies, including mass measurement through radial velocity (RV) observations, compared to Kepler targets. In this work, we present the TESS-Keck Survey’s (TKS) Mass Catalog: a uniform analysis of all TKS RV survey data that has resulted in mass constraints for 126 planets and candidate signals. This includes 58 mass measurements that have reached ≥5 σ precision. We confirm or validate 32 new planets from the TESS mission either by significant mass measurement (15) or statistical validation (17), and we find no evidence of likely false positives among our entire sample. This work also serves as a data release for all previously unpublished TKS survey data, including 9,204 RV measurements and associated activity indicators over our three-year survey. Sub-Neptunes with radii of 2–3 R _⊕ are intermediate in size between rocky planets and Neptune-sized planets. The orbital properties and bulk compositions of transiting sub-Neptunes provide clues to the formation and evolution of close-in small planets. In this paper, we present the discovery and follow-up of four sub-Neptunes orbiting M dwarfs (TOI-782, TOI-1448, TOI-2120, and TOI-2406), three of which were newly validated by ground-based follow-up observations and statistical analyses. TOI-782 b, TOI-1448 b, TOI-2120 b, and TOI-2406 b have radii of ${R}_{{\rm{p}}}={2.740}_{-0.079}^{+0.082}\,{R}_{\oplus }$ , ${2.769}_{-0.068}^{+0.073}\,{R}_{\oplus }$ , 2.120 ± 0.067 R _⊕ , and ${2.830}_{-0.066}^{+0.068}\,{R}_{\oplus }$ and orbital periods of P = 8.02, 8.11, 5.80, and 3.08 days, respectively. Exoplanet discoveries have revealed a dramatic diversity of planet sizes across a vast array of orbital architectures. Sub-Neptunes are of particular interest; due to their absence in our own solar system, we rely on demographics of exoplanets to better understand their bulk composition and formation scenarios. Here, we present the discovery and characterization of TOI-1437 b, a sub-Neptune with a 18.84 day orbit around a near-solar analog ( M _⋆ = 1.10 ± 0.10 M _☉ , R _⋆ =1.17 ± 0.12 R _☉ ). The planet was detected using photometric data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission and radial velocity (RV) follow-up observations were carried out as a part of the TESS-Keck Survey using both the HIRES instrument at Keck Observatory and the Levy Spectrograph on the Automated Planet Finder telescope. A combined analysis of these data reveal a planet radius of R _p = 2.24 ± 0.23 R _⊕ and a mass measurement of M _p = 9.6 ± 3.9 M _⊕ ). TOI-1437 b is one of few (∼50) known transiting sub-Neptunes orbiting a solar-mass star that has a RV mass measurement. As the formation pathway of these worlds remains an unanswered question, the precise mass characterization of TOI-1437 b may provide further insight into this class of planet.

We report the discovery and validation of two long-period giant exoplanets orbiting the early K dwarf TOI-4600 ( V = 12.6, T = 11.9), first detected using observations from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) by the TESS Single Transit Planet Candidate Working Group. The inner planet, TOI-4600 b, has a radius of 6.80 ± 0.31 R _⊕ and an orbital period of 82.69 days. The outer planet, TOI-4600 c, has a radius of 9.42 ± 0.42 R _⊕ and an orbital period of 482.82 days, making it the longest-period confirmed or validated planet discovered by TESS to date. We combine TESS photometry and ground-based spectroscopy, photometry, and high-resolution imaging to validate the two planets. With equilibrium temperatures of 347 K and 191 K, respectively, TOI-4600 b and c add to the small but growing population of temperate giant exoplanets that bridge the gap between hot/warm Jupiters and the solar system’s gas giants. TOI-4600 is a promising target for further transit and precise RV observations to measure the masses and orbits of the planets as well as search for additional nontransiting planets. Additionally, with Transit Spectroscopy Metric values of ∼30, both planets are amenable for atmospheric characterization with JWST. Together, these will lend insight into the formation and evolution of planet systems with multiple giant exoplanets.

NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission promises to improve our understanding of hot Jupiters by providing an all-sky, magnitude-limited sample of transiting hot Jupiters suitable for population studies. Assembling such a sample requires confirming hundreds of planet candidates with additional follow-up observations. Here we present 20 hot Jupiters that were detected using TESS data and confirmed to be planets through photometric, spectroscopic, and imaging observations coordinated by the TESS Follow-up Observing Program. These 20 planets have orbital periods shorter than 7 days and orbit relatively bright FGK stars (10.9 < G < 13.0). Most of the planets are comparable in mass to Jupiter, although there are four planets with masses less than that of Saturn. TOI-3976b, the longest-period planet in our sample ( P = 6.6 days), may be on a moderately eccentric orbit ( e = 0.18 ± 0.06), while observations of the other targets are consistent with them being on circular orbits. We measured the projected stellar obliquity of TOI-1937A b, a hot Jupiter on a 22.4 hr orbit with the Rossiter–McLaughlin effect, finding the planet’s orbit to be well aligned with the stellar spin axis (∣ λ ∣ = 4.°0 ± 3.°5). We also investigated the possibility that TOI-1937 is a member of the NGC 2516 open cluster but ultimately found the evidence for cluster membership to be ambiguous. These objects are part of a larger effort to build a complete sample of hot Jupiters to be used for future demographic and detailed characterization work.

We report the discovery and Doppler mass measurement of a 7.4 days 2.3 R _⊕ mini-Neptune around a metal-poor K dwarf BD+29 2654 (TOI-2018). Based on a high-resolution Keck/HIRES spectrum, the Gaia parallax, and multiwavelength photometry from the UV to the mid-infrared, we found that the host star has ${T}_{\mathrm{eff}}={4174}_{-42}^{+34}$ K, $\mathrm{log}g={4.62}_{-0.03}^{+0.02}$ , [Fe/H] = − 0.58 ± 0.18, M _* = 0.57 ± 0.02 M _⊙ , and R _* = 0.62 ± 0.01 R _⊙ . Precise Doppler measurements with Keck/HIRES revealed a planetary mass of M _p = 9.2 ± 2.1 M _⊕ for TOI-2018 b. TOI-2018 b has a mass and radius that are consistent with an Earthlike core, with a ∼1%-by-mass hydrogen/helium envelope or an ice–rock mixture. The mass of TOI-2018 b is close to the threshold for runaway accretion and hence giant planet formation. Such a threshold is predicted to be around 10 M _⊕ or lower for a low-metallicity (low-opacity) environment. If TOI-2018 b is a planetary core that failed to undergo runaway accretion, it may underline the reason why giant planets are rare around low-metallicity host stars (one possibility is their shorter disk lifetimes). With a K -band magnitude of 7.1, TOI-2018 b may be a suitable target for transmission spectroscopy with the James Webb Space Telescope. The system is also amenable to metastable Helium observation; the detection of a Helium exosphere would help distinguish between a H/He-enveloped planet and a water world.

On the pre-main sequence, the rotation rates of Sun-like stars are dictated by the interplay between the protostellar disk and the star’s contraction. At ages exceeding 100 Myr, magnetic spindown erases the initial stellar spin rate and enables rotation-based age dating (gyrochronology). The exact time at which the transition between these two regimes occurs depends on stellar mass, and has been challenging to empirically resolve due to a lack of viable calibration clusters. The α Persei open cluster ( t ≈ 80 Myr, d ≈ 170 pc) may provide the needed calibrator, but recent analyses of the Gaia data have provided wildly varying views of its age and spatial extent. As such, we analyze a combination of TESS, Gaia, and LAMOST data to calibrate gyrochronology at the age of α Per and to uncover the cluster’s true morphology. By assembling a list of rotationally confirmed α Per members, we provide strong evidence that α Per is part of a larger complex of similarly aged stars. Through kinematic back-integration, we show that the most diffuse components of α Per were five times closer together 50 Myr ago. Finally, we use our stellar rotation periods to derive a relative gyrochronology age for α Per of 67% ± 12% the age of the Pleiades, which yields 86 ± 16 Myr given current knowledge. We show that by this age, stars more massive than ≈0.8 M _⊙ have converged to form a well-defined slow sequence.
