Abstract

Este estudo é parte de uma pesquisa de mestrado profissional em andamento cuja temática versa sobre a gestão da sala de aula na formação inicial de professores. A gestão da sala de aula compreende um conjunto de ações tomadas pelo professor para viabilizar o ensino e a aprendizagem dos alunos. Entretanto, a literatura mostra que este é um tema pouco abordado na formação inicial, o que contribui para que os professores, sobretudo aqueles em início de carreira, tenham dificuldades na prática pedagógica. Diante dessa problemática, e com o intuito de conhecermos publicações recentes sobre o tema, realizamos uma revisão de literatura segundo a metodologia DataCon. Como resultados, observamos temas variados relacionados à gestão da sala de aula, como indisciplina, dificuldades no planejamento pedagógico, dentre outras. Também foi possível identificamos os autores frequentemente usados como base teórica nessas pesquisas. Entendemos que a revisão de literatura é crucial para que o pesquisador faça escolhas mais assertivas e fundamentadas no desenvolvimento de seu estudo, e a gestão da sala de aula deve ser um tema discutido amplamente e com ações de intervenção na formação inicial, relacionando a teoria à prática e subsidiando os alunos em seu futuro trabalho docente de forma mais segura.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To describe obstetric outcomes based on COVID-19 vaccination status, in women with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) who developed COVID-19 during pregnancy. METHODS: Data regarding pregnant women entered into the COVID-19 Global Rheumatology Alliance registry from 24 March 2020-25 February 2022 were analysed. Obstetric outcomes were stratified by number of COVID-19 vaccine doses received prior to COVID-19 infection in pregnancy. Descriptive differences between groups were tested using the chi-squared or Fishers exact test. RESULTS: There were 73 pregnancies in 73 women with RMD and COVID-19. Overall, 24.7% (18) of pregnancies were ongoing, while of the 55 completed pregnancies, 90.9% (50) of pregnancies resulted in livebirths. At the time of COVID-19 diagnosis, 60.3% (n = 44) of women were unvaccinated, 4.1% (n = 3) had received one vaccine dose while 35.6% (n = 26) had two or more doses. Although 83.6% (n = 61) of women required no treatment for COVID-19, 20.5% (n = 15) required hospital admission. COVID-19 resulted in delivery in 6.8% (n = 3) of unvaccinated women and 3.8% (n = 1) of fully vaccinated women. There was a greater number of preterm births (PTB) in unvaccinated women compared with fully vaccinated 29.5% (n = 13) vs 18.2% (n = 2). CONCLUSIONS: In this descriptive study, unvaccinated pregnant women with RMD and COVID-19 had a greater number of PTB compared with those fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Additionally, the need for COVID-19 pharmacological treatment was uncommon in pregnant women with RMD regardless of vaccination status. These results support active promotion of COVID-19 vaccination in women with RMD who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy.

Abstract

IntroductionWe examined the relationship between current tobacco use and functionally important respiratory symptoms.MethodsLongitudinal cohort study of 16 295 US adults without COPD in Waves 2-3 (W2-3, 2014-2016) of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health Study. Exposure-Ten mutually exclusive categories of tobacco use including single product, multiple product, former, and never use (reference). Outcome-Seven questions assessing wheezing/cough were summed to create a respiratory symptom index; cutoffs of ≥2 and ≥3 were associated with functional limitations and poorer health. Multivariable regressions examined both cutoffs cross-sectionally and change over approximately 12 months, adjusting for confounders.ResultsAll tobacco use categories featuring cigarettes (>2/3's of users) were associated with higher risk (vs. never users) for functionally important respiratory symptoms at W2, for example, at symptom severity ≥ 3, risk ratio for exclusive cigarette use was 2.34 [95% CI, 1.92, 2.85] and for worsening symptoms at W3 was 2.80 [2.08, 3.76]. There was largely no increased symptom risk for exclusive use of cigars, smokeless tobacco, hookah, or e-cigarettes (adjustment for pack-years and marijuana attenuated the cross-sectional e-cigarette association from 1.53(95% CI 0.98, 2.40) to 1.05 (0.67, 1.63); RRs for these products were also significantly lower compared to exclusive use of cigarettes. The longitudinal e-cigarette-respiratory symptom association was sensitive to the respiratory index cutoff level; exclusive e-cigarette use was associated with worsening symptoms at an index cutoff ≥ 2 (RR = 1.63 [1.02, 2.59]) and with symptom improvement at an index cutoff of ≥ 3 (RR = 1.64 [1.04, 2.58]).ConclusionsPast and current cigarette smoking drove functionally important respiratory symptoms, while exclusive use of other tobacco products was largely not associated. However, the relationship between e-cigarette use and symptoms was sensitive to adjustment for pack-years and symptom severity.ImplicationsHow noncigarette tobacco products affect respiratory symptoms is not clear; some studies implicate e-cigarettes. We examined functionally important respiratory symptoms (wheezing/nighttime cough) among US adults without COPD. The majority of adult tobacco users smoke cigarettes and have higher risk of respiratory symptoms and worsening of symptoms, regardless of other products used with them. Exclusive use of other tobacco products (e-cigarettes, cigars, smokeless, hookah) was largely not associated with functionally important respiratory symptoms and risks associated with their use was significantly lower than for cigarettes. The association for e-cigarettes was greatly attenuated by adjustment for cigarette pack-years and sensitive to how symptoms were defined.

10. Emotion regulation, perfectionism, and eating disorder symptoms in adolescents: the mediating role of cognitive eating patterns

Abstract

Poor emotion regulation, along with elevated perfectionism, is recognised as a risk factor for the development of eating disorder (ED) symptoms. Therefore, the aim of our study was to examine the relationship between emotion regulation difficulties and perfectionism with ED symptoms, while controlling for emotional eating, uncontrolled eating, and cognitive restraint as mediators. In total, 482 adolescents (246 girls and 236 boys; M = 15.00, SD = 0.31) participated in this study. Based on the participants' body height and weight measured by the medical team during their regular preventive health examinations, the body mass index (BMI) was calculated. Participants also answered the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale, Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire, and Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire. According to the results obtained, adolescent girls in our sample reported more difficulties in emotion regulation, more uncontrolled and emotional eating, and more ED symptoms. A significant direct effect was found for difficulties in emotion regulation and ED symptoms but not for perfectionism. In addition, only emotional eating and cognitive restraint (not uncontrolled eating) mediated the relationship between difficulties in emotion regulation and perfectionism and ED symptoms. The results suggest that difficulties in emotion regulation may be more important than perfectionism in explaining ED symptoms in a sample of healthy adolescents. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to validate the seven-item wheezing module from the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Children (ISAAC) in the nationally representative Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health Study. Adult participants with complete Wave 2-3 data were selected, including those with asthma but excluding those with COPD and other respiratory diseases (n = 16,295). We created a nine-point respiratory symptom index from the ISAAC questions, assessed the reliability of the index, and examined associations with self-reported asthma diagnosis. Threshold values were assessed for association with functional outcomes. The weighted prevalence for one or more respiratory symptom was 18.0% (SE = 0.5) for adults without asthma, 70.1% (SE = 1.3) for those with lifetime asthma, 75.7% (SE = 3.7) for adults with past-year asthma not on medications, and 92.6% (SE = 1.6) for those on medications. Cronbach's alpha for the respiratory symptom index was 0.86. Index scores of ≥2 or ≥3 yielded functionally important respiratory symptom prevalence of 7-10%, adequate sensitivity and specificity for identifying asthma, and consistent independent associations with all functional outcomes and tobacco use variables. Respiratory symptom index scores of ≥2 or ≥3 are indicative of functionally important respiratory symptoms and could be used to assess the relationship between tobacco use and respiratory health.

31. Seeing the light : germination, growth and flowering responses in wildflowers under artificial nighttime lighting

Abstract

The introduction of artificial nighttime lighting due to human settlements and transport networks is increasingly altering the timing, intensity and spectra of natural light regimes worldwide. Artificial light at night (ALAN) is predicted to constitute a significant anthropogenic pressure on natural biological systems, which are organized foremost by light, and particularly by daily and seasonal cycles of light and dark. Much of the research on the impacts of nighttime light pollution on organisms has focussed on animal species. However, little is known about the impacts of daylength extension due to outdoor lighting technologies on wild plant communities, despite the fact that plant growth and development are under photoperiodic control. The present study evaluated the effects of photoperiod extension that comes from cool white light-emitting diode (LED) street lighting at ground-level illuminance on seed germination, individual plant growth and flowering in wildflower species. Seed germination in Cichorium intybus was accelerated by this lighting treatment. Low-irradiance cool white LED lighting also increased the plant height of individuals of six wildflower species that were exposed to ALAN over the course of a year and under field conditions. In winter, the white LED treatment promoted both individual flowering and the development of an erectophile habit in long-day plants of Lapsana communis, Leontodon hispidus, and Ranunculus acris. Flowering in Oenothera biennis was also hastened by artificial nighttime lighting, the changes being observed in summer. The impacts of ALAN on grassland communities were also examined through long-term field experiments. 13 grassland species growing in mixed communities ('mesocosms') were exposed to light treatments simulating low-pressure sodium (LPS) and cool white LED street lighting at ground-level illuminance. Most of these plant species did not exhibit changes in biomass accumulation after five years of exposure to ALAN. However, the white LED treatment decreased biomass production in the herbaceous species Lotus pedunculatus. Low-irradiance cool white LED lighting also increased the inflorescence density of the grass species Agrostis tenuis and Holcus lanatus in a semi-natural grassland. Similarly, an increase in the density of inflorescences of H. lanatus was recorded under the light treatment simulating LPS lighting. Long-term exposure to ALAN at low light levels may account for shifts in the composition and/or structure of plant communities, as suggested by the growth and flowering responses to photoperiod extension found in the present research. Knowledge of the effects of current street lighting, such as cool white LED lighting at low illuminances, on the composition and diversity of plant communities could be further improved by conducting studies on the impacts of these sources of ALAN on the flowering of short-day plants and also on interspecific interactions including plant competition under different nutrient supplies, pollinator visitation and herbivory.

Abstract

ObjectiveTo develop new classification criteria for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) jointly supported by the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) and the American College of Rheumatology (ACR).MethodsThis international initiative had four phases. 1) Evaluation of antinuclear antibody (ANA) as an entry criterion through systematic review and meta-regression of the literature and criteria generation through an international Delphi exercise, an early patient cohort, and a patient survey. 2) Criteria reduction by Delphi and nominal group technique exercises. 3) Criteria definition and weighting based on criterion performance and on results of a multi-criteria decision analysis. 4) Refinement of weights and threshold scores in a new derivation cohort of 1,001 subjects and validation compared with previous criteria in a new validation cohort of 1,270 subjects.ResultsThe 2019 EULAR/ACR classification criteria for SLE include positive ANA at least once as obligatory entry criterion; followed by additive weighted criteria grouped in 7 clinical (constitutional, hematologic, neuropsychiatric, mucocutaneous, serosal, musculoskeletal, renal) and 3 immunologic (antiphospholipid antibodies, complement proteins, SLE-specific antibodies) domains, and weighted from 2 to 10. Patients accumulating ≥10 points are classified. In the validation cohort, the new criteria had a sensitivity of 96.1% and specificity of 93.4%, compared with 82.8% sensitivity and 93.4% specificity of the ACR 1997 and 96.7% sensitivity and 83.7% specificity of the Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics 2012 criteria.ConclusionThese new classification criteria were developed using rigorous methodology with multidisciplinary and international input, and have excellent sensitivity and specificity. Use of ANA entry criterion, hierarchically clustered, and weighted criteria reflects current thinking about SLE and provides an improved foundation for SLE research.

This report analyses the challenges faced by young people in Serbia in their transition from school to adult life, especially in their labour market integration, and with a particular focus on the most vulnerable groups.
