Regenerative medicine is shaping into a new paradigm and could be the future medicine driven by the therapeutic capabilities shown by mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (MSC-EVs). Despite the advantages and promises, the therapeutic effectiveness of MSC-EVs in some clinical applications is restricted due to inconsistent manufacturing process and the lack of stringent quality control (QC) measurement. In particular, QC assays which are crucial to confirm the safety, efficacy, and quality of MSC-EVs available for end use are poorly designed. Hence, in this review, characterization of MSC-EVs and quality control guidelines for biologics are presented, with special attention given to the description of technical know-how in developing QC assays for MSC-EVs adhering to regulatory guidelines. The remaining challenges surrounding the development of potency and stability of QC assays are also addressed.

The application of stem cells to treat perianal fistula due to Crohn's disease has attracted a lot of interest in recent decades. Though still a popular procedure, the existing surgical methods may be an ideal form of therapy since the recurrence rate is high, which affects the quality of life badly. Stem cell therapy offers to be a better solution in treating PF, but the utilisation is often restricted because of the manufacturing cost. Hence in this review, the selection of suitable cell sources, the use of bioreactors and preconditioning MSCs as well as modified stem cells will be discussed for a more affordable as compared with the current MSC therapy towards PF. We anticipate that exploring these approaches may give a complete picture in understanding stem cells in order to make them effective and affordable for long-term therapeutic applications.

Over the last decades, the strategy of using stem cells has gained a lot of attention in treating many diseases. Recently, DR was identified as one of the common complications experienced by diabetic patients around the world. The current treatment strategy needs to be addressed since the active progression of DR may lead to permanent blindness. Interestingly, varieties of stem cells have emerged to optimize the therapeutic effects. It is also known that stem cells possess multilineage properties and are capable of differentiating, expanding in vitro and undergoing genetic modification. Moreover, modified stem cells have shown to be an ideal resource to prevent the degenerative disease and exhibit promising effects in conferring the migratory, anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory and provide better homing for cells into the damaged tissue or organ as well promoting healing properties. Therefore, the understanding of the functional properties of the stem cells may provide the comprehensive guidance to understand the manipulation of stem cells making them useful for long-term therapeutic applications. Hence in this review the potential use and current challenges of genetically modified stem cells to treat DR will be discussed along with its future perspectives.

Targeting reactive oxygen species (ROS) while maintaining cellular redox signaling is crucial in the development of redox medicine as the origin of several prevailing diseases including chronic kidney disease (CKD) is linked to ROS imbalance and associated mitochondrial dysfunction. Here, we have shown that a potential nanomedicine comprising of Mn3O4 nanoparticles duly functionalized with biocompatible ligand citrate (C-Mn3O4 NPs) can maintain cellular redox balance in an animal model of oxidative injury. We developed a cisplatin-induced CKD model in C57BL/6j mice with severe mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative distress leading to the pathogenesis. Four weeks of treatment with C-Mn3O4 NPs restored renal function, preserved normal kidney architecture, ameliorated overexpression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and arrested glomerulosclerosis and interstitial fibrosis. A detailed study involving human embryonic kidney (HEK 293) cells and isolated mitochondria from experimental animals revealed that the molecular mechanism behind the pharmacological action of the nanomedicine involves protection of structural and functional integrity of mitochondria from oxidative damage, subsequent reduction in intracellular ROS, and maintenance of cellular redox homeostasis. To the best of our knowledge, such studies that efficiently treated a multifaceted disease like CKD using a biocompatible redox nanomedicine are sparse in the literature. Successful clinical translation of this nanomedicine may open a new avenue in redox-mediated therapeutics of several other diseases (e.g., diabetic nephropathy, neurodegeneration, and cardiovascular disease) where oxidative distress plays a central role in pathogenesis., Adhikari et al. use the redox modulatory abilities of citrate functionalized Mn3O4 nanoparticles to ameliorate oxidative damage in murine disease model of chronic kidney disease (CKD). This nanomedicine works by protecting structural and functional integrity of mitochondria from oxidative injury, reducing intracellular ROS, downregulating pro-inflammatory cytokines and maintaining cellular redox homeostasis.

BACKGROUND: This study was conducted at the NICU of Dr B C Roy Post Graduate Institute of Paediatric Sciences, a tertiary care children's hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, to study the immediate outcome of the referred sick neonates and peripheral utilization of resources before and during transport. METHODOLOGY: Aprospective observational study on 250 new born babies referred to Dr. B. C. Roy Post-Graduation Institute of Paediatric Sciences, Kolkata, India during the period of June 2016 to May 2017. At the admission detailed clinical assessment of the baby has been done and clinical physiological parameters (TOPS- Temperature, Oxygenation (Airway & Breathing), Perfusion, Sugar) were recorded. Pre transport TOPS and transport TOPS were noted. The babies were followed up for the next seventy two hours to study the correlation between the utilization of the resources and immediate outcome of the babies in terms of death, cardiorespiratory support (mechanical ventilation, CPAP, inotrope therapy), supportive care and discharge within next 72 hours. RESULTS: Out of 250 babies, 62% were boys, 58.4% were pre term,65% were low birth weight. 60% were transported in government ambulance. 100% mortality was present in babies taking > 2 hrs to reach the hospital. 44 babies had no alteration of TOPS parameters while one parameter was affected in 115 babies (46%), two parameters were affected in 51 babies (20.4%), three parameters were affected in 30 babies (12%) and all four parameters were affected in 10 babies (10%). Hypothermia was present in 65%, hypoxia in 34.8%, hypoperfusion in 23% and hypoglycemia in 16%. 44.8% were discharged with in 72 hours, 23.6% received supportive care, 17.2% required cardio-respiratory support and 14.4% died. CONCLUSION: Emphasis on stabilization of sick new born before and during transfer should be done. Training modules to all the personnel involved in the care of a sick new born and regular practise of the same should be encouraged. Precise control of intracellular redox status, i.e., maintenance of physiological level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) for mediating normal cellular functions (oxidative eustress) while evading the excess ROS stress (distress) is central to the concept of redox medicine. In this regard, engineered nanoparticles with unique ROS generation, transition, or depletion functions have the potential to be the choice of redox therapeutics. However, it is always challenging to estimate whether ROS-induced intracellular events are beneficial or deleterious to the cell. Here, we propose the concept of redox buffering capacity as a therapeutic index of engineered nanomaterials. As a steady redox state is maintained for normal functioning cells, we hypothesize that the ability of a nanomaterial to preserve this homeostatic condition will dictate its therapeutic efficacy. Additionally, the redox buffering capacity is expected to provide information about the nanoparticle toxicity. Here, using citrate functionalized trimanganese tetroxide nanoparticles (C-Mn3O4 NPs) as a model nanosystem we explored its redox buffering capacity in erythrocytes. Furthermore, we went on to study the chronic toxic effect (if any) of this nanomaterial in animal model in order to co-relate with the experimentally estimated redox buffering capacity. This study could function as a framework for assessing the capability of a nanomaterial as redox medicine (whether maintains eustress or damages by creating distress), thus orienting its application and safety for clinical use.

Frequency-dispersive impedance analysis of CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite is carried out under the external Direct current (DC) field to investigate the interplay of dielectric polarization and delocalized carrier transport. Switching of capacitance from positive to negative values is observed in the radio frequency range (42.1–42.5 MHz) for the external bias ranging from 0–4 V. The switching frequency outlined a decreasing trend with an increase in bias. Upon fitting the experimentally obtained dispersions, a bi-relaxation mechanism is unveiled. One of its constituents arises due to the typical Maxwell–Wagner interfacial polarization between the grain cores and boundaries and acts at the lower frequencies. The other one is manifested via hopping of delocalized carriers, resulting in a high frequency degenerative pseudo inductive response. The interference of these two mechanisms is manifested into an asymmetric Breit–Wigner–Fano profile of the dielectric susceptance spectra. The results are further elaborated from a theoretical point of view involving the energy band structure, electron localization function, and Mulliken charge distribution.

Lipopeptides are versatile bio-active weapons having antifungal, antibacterial, antimycoplasma and anticancer properties. In this study, the therapeutic potential and safety assessment of a lipopeptide molecule ‘Iturin A’ were evaluated. Iturin A was found to inhibit in vivo tumor growth in a sarcoma 180 mouse xenograft model. The antitumor efficacy of Iturin A was correlated with increased DNA fragmentation and modulation of CD-31, Ki-67, P-Akt, P-MAPK, apoptotic and anti-apoptotic proteins. Further, safety assessment was carried out in Sprague Dawley rats by 28 days repeated dose (28 days) toxicity and a bio-distribution study. In the toxicity study, Iturin A (10, 20 and 50 mg per kg per day) was administered to the animals for 28 days. Another group was kept for another 14 days without drug exposure after 28 days of treatment to access the reversibility of the toxicity. At the end of the treatment, body weight, food and water intake, organ weight, motility, hematology, serum biochemistry and histopathology of the major organs were evaluated. The bio-distribution of Iturin A was also performed in plasma as well as in different major organs by a well-developed and validated administration of Iturin A radiolabeled with 99mTc. The in vitro cytotoxic effect of Iturin A was also evaluated in BRL-3A rat liver cells. In the treated groups, various toxicities were found in the liver and spleen. However, these adverse effects were transient and reversible after discontinuation of Iturin A treatment. In conclusion, this pre-clinical study offered a preliminary investigation regarding the efficacy and safety assessment of Iturin A.

The potentiality of nano-enzymes in therapeutic use has directed contemporary research to develop a substitute for natural enzymes, which are suffering from several disadvantages including low stability, high cost, and difficulty in storage. However, inherent toxicity, inefficiency in the physiological milieu, and incompatibility to function in cellular enzyme networks limit the therapeutic use of nanozymes in living systems. Here, we have shown that citrate functionalized manganese-based biocompatible nanoscale material (C-Mn3O4 NP) efficiently mimics glutathione peroxidase enzyme in the physiological milieu and easily incorporates into the cellular multienzyme cascade for H2O2 scavenging. A detailed computational study reveals the mechanism of the nanozyme action. We further established the in vivo therapeutic efficacy of C-Mn3O4 nanozyme in a preclinical animal model of Huntington’s disease, a prevalent progressive neurodegenerative disorder, which has no effective medication till date.SUMMARYAlthough, nano-enzymes have shown lots of promises in the management of several diseases, two major concerns limit their clinical translation. Apart from the inherent toxicity of the constituent materials (e.g., cerium, vanadium, gold, etc.), activities of contemporary nanozymes are often inhibited in physiological milieu. Furthermore, most of them are incapable of incorporation into the cellular metabolic networks for functioning in tandem and parallel with natural enzymes, a major criteria for potential therapeutics.Here, we have shown that citrate-functionalized spherical Mn3O4 nanoparticles can efficiently mimic glutathione peroxidase (GPX) enzyme without the limitations of contemporary nanozymes, and effectively manage neurodegenerative Huntington’s disease in preclinical animal model. The choice of the material in the nanozyme lies on the fact that Mn is an essential micronutrient for mammals, and the stabilizing ligand citrate helps the nanoparticles to cross the blood-brain-barrier to reach brain. We have shown that the nanozyme can easily be incorporated in cellular antioxidant enzyme cascade. The specificity and efficacy of the nanozyme in the cascade was significantly higher compared to other reported nanozymes. We have justified our experimental findings with a detailed computational study. Understanding the mode of operation and management of Huntington’s disease in preclinical animal trial using a biocompatible (non-toxic) nanozyme as a part of the metabolic network may uncover a new paradigm in nanozyme based therapeutic strategy.

Background: ACS represents a global epidemic. Arrhythmia in ACS is common. Careful investigation may lead to further improvement of prognosis. Retrospectively analyzed the year- round data of our center. Study was undertaken to analyze the incidence, frequency and type of arrhythmias in ACS. This is to aid timely intervention and to modify the outcome. Identification of the type of arrhythmia is of therapeutic and prognostic importance.Methods: This cross sectional analytical study was conducted in the Department of Cardiology, Apollo Hospitals Dhaka, from January 2019 to January 2020 with ACS patients. Enrolled consecutively and data analyzed.Results: There were 500 patients enrolled considering inclusion and exclusion criteria. Sample was subdivided into 3 groups on the type of ACS. Group-I with UA, Group-II with NSTE - ACS and Group-III with STE - ACS. Different types of arrhythmia noted. Types of arrhythmia were correlated with type of ACS. 500 patients included. Mean age 55.53±12.70, 71.6% male and 28.4% female. 60.4% hypertensive, 46.2% diabetic, 20.2% positive family history of CAD, 32.2% current smoker, 56.4% dyslipidaemic and 9.6% asthmatic. 31.2% UA, 39.2% NSTE-ACS and 29.6% STE-ACS. Type of arrhythmias noted. 22% sinus tachycardia, 20.2% sinus bradycardia, 9% atrial fibrillation, 5.2% ventricular ectopic, 4.8% supra ventricular ectopic, 2.8% bundle branch block, 2.2% atrio-ventricular block, 1% broad complex tachycardia, 0.4% narrow complex tachycardia, 0.2% sinus node dysfunction and 32.2% without any arrhythmia. Here, via a facile room-temperature synthesis protocol high quality cesium lead halide perovskite (CsPbBr2Cl) cubes has been realized. Surface morphology and crystallinity of the synthesized sample were investigated by FESEM and XRD respectively. To attain detail information of its chemical composition EDX analysis and elemental mapping were carried out. These single crystalline cubes crystallize in orthorhombic phase and exhibit strong photoluminescence emission at 482 nm with narrow FWHM value (∼18nm) and photoluminescence decay time of 10.44 ns. Here, adopting a simple, environment benign ambient conditioned chemical synthesis approach we have realized high quality cesium lead halide perovskite (CsPbCl3) cube. The crystallinity and morphological characterizations were performed by X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscope measurements respectively while the chemical composition were examined via energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopic measurement. The as synthesized cubes crystallized in cubic phase and exhibited intense photoluminescence emission at ∼418 nm with a small FWHM value and prolonged photoluminescence decay time∼41 ns. Besides photoluminescence, these cubes displayed strong cathodoluminescence also. Accelerating voltage dependent cathodoluminescence study showed discernable differences in luminescence behaviour. Hierarchical architectures realized via rational coupling of several components not only boast synergy driven raised functionality compared to their structural constituents also exhibit noble interface phenomena, thus made them significantly pertinent from research and technological point of view. Here in, geometrically intricate hierarchical nanoform constituting MoS2 nanoflakes anchored on TiO2 sphere was realized via two steps hydrothermal protocol. Initially TiO2 sphere was synthesized using titanium isopropoxide assisted hydrothermal route followed by which the sphere was used as scaffold for secondary growth of MoS2. As synthesized hybrid sample displayed much improved electrochemical behavior than pristine TiO2 sphere. Assessed value of specific capacitance for the hybrid is found to 152.22 F/g at current density of 0.1A/g which is 30 fold than TiO2 sphere. Metal halide perovskites have recently drawn immense research interests among the worldwide scientific community due to their excellent light harvesting capabilities and above all, cost effectiveness. These new class of materials have already been used as efficient optoelectronic devices e.g. solar cells, photo detectors, etc. Here in this work, room temperature NIR (near infra red) response of organic-inorganic lead halide perovskite CH3NH3PbI3 (Methylammonium lead tri iodide) nanorods has been studied. A very simple solution process technique has been adopted to synthesize CH3NH3PbI3 nanostructures at room temperature. The NIR exposure upon the sample resulted in a considerable hike in its dark current with very good responsivity (0.37 mA/W). Along with that, a good on-off ratio (41.8) was also obtained when the sample was treated under a pulsed NIR exposure with operating voltage of 2 V. The specific detectivity of the device came in the order of 1010 Jone.

Authors describe the case of a 60-year-old diabetic man who presented with jaundice, ascites and significant weight loss over a period of 2 months. Physical examination revealed firm hepatomegaly with ascites. On evaluation, nephropathy, axonal neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome and decompensated cryptogenic liver disease with portal hypertension were found fitting with the diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy and neuropathy and nonalcoholic steato-hepatitis-associated cirrhosis, respectively. It was only after tissue diagnosis and serum protein electrophoresis that a definitive diagnosis of myeloma-related amyloidosis was made. This case emphasizes the fact that due to nonspecific initial presentation and multisystem involvement, a high index of suspicion and prompt use of appropriate tests including tissue diagnosis may be required to diagnose amyloid light-chain amyloidosis, which may be a rare presenting feature of myeloma. It should be differentiated from a commoner multisystem disease like diabetes and its complications.

Letrozole (CAS Number-112809-51-5) is widely used as an oral non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor for the treatment of hormonally-responsive breast cancer after surgery. For quantitation of letrozole, negative polarity was used to achieve adequate response because this was highly sensitive for compounds with high electron affinity. It was applied to fragment the analytes and to obtain intense and consistent product ions. The deprotonated precursor ions [M-H]−at m/z 284.1 was observed in Q1(MS) for letrozole. Characteristic product ions found in Q3(MS) was at m/z 242.0, 102.1, 126.7, 140.7, 215.1, 240.3 for letrozole. Most stable and consistent fragment ion selected m/z 242.0 having the triazole ring. For the internal standard (tolbutamide) the fragment at Q1 and Q3 having m/z 269.1 and 170.1 was responsible for possessing the methoxyethyl-phenoxy group. In the present study LC-MS/MS-ESI method was attempted to develop for detection and quantification of letrozole in human plasma. Therefore, it can be concluded from the present study findings that developed method by using LC-MS/MS API 2000 and liquid-liquid extraction technique for letrozole in human plasma was found to be simple, specific, sensitive, reproducible and fully validated in according to EMA guidelines. The present method was found superior enough to be applied to comparative pharmacokinetic studies in future.

To evaluate the growth pattern in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis and its subtypes in comparison with age, sex and temporally matched controls.Prospective study.Pediatric rheumatology clinic of a tertiary care hospital in Eastern part of India.Seventy-five children (2-12 years) diagnosed as juvenile idiopathic erthritis by International League of Associations for Rheumatology criteria and 75 age- and sex- matched controls.Weight, height and body mass index were recorded at six monthly interval in both groups over a period of 3 years.weight, height and body mass index.Subtype distribution of juvenile idiopathic arthritis was: oligoarthritis (49%, n=37), rheumatoid factor negative polyarthritis (27%, n=20), rheumatoid factor positive polyarthritis (8%, n=6), systemic onset (15%, n=11) and enthesitis related arthritis (1.3%, n=1). Anthropometric parameters in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis were not significant different from controls. Comparison between the subtypes showed significant differences in height (P=0.011), weight (P=0.005), and growth velocity (P=0.005), but not in body mass index. Systemic onset disease led to significant restriction in height (P=0.018; 95% CI 2.13-33.77) and weight (P=0.008; 95% CI 1.47-14.43) compared to controls. Growth velocity was significantly affected in rheumatoid factor positive polyarthritis (P=0.003; 95% CIO. 46-3.14).Children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis do not have significantly lower values of anthropometric parameters compared to controls. Significant restriction in height and weight is seen in systemic onset disease, and growth velocity is significantly reduced in rheumatoid factor positive subjects.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential toxicity of gemifloxacin by 28-day repeated oral dose in Wistar albino rats. The test article, was administered daily by gavage to male and female rats at dose levels of 0, 50, 100, 200 mg/kg/day. At the end of treatment period, 12 rats/sex/group was sacrificed, while six extra rats/sex in the vehicle control and highest dose groups sacrificed after 14 days recovery period. During the treatment and recovery periods, clinical signs, mortality, body weights, food and water consumption, ophthalmoscopy, urinalysis, phototoxicity, hematology, serum biochemistry, synovial fluid biochemistry, electrocardiogram (ECG), gross findings, organ weights, microscopic examination of synovial fluid, and histopathology were examined. Hematological and serum biochemical investigations revealed a dose-dependent increase in the total white blood cell (WBC), total bilirubin (T-BIL), glucose (GLU), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and significant decreases in total protein (TP) were observed in both sexes at the same dose, at the end of treatment period, but the levels returned toward normal during the recovery period. Histopathology of talar joint showed that erosion of the articular surface of that joint in both sexes at the end of treatment period at the dose level of 200 mg/kg/day. Degenerative changes in tendinocytes were observed in Achilles tendon of both sexes at the high dose level at the end of treatment period. In histopathological study shows partial effacement of liver architecture and focal ulceration in gastric mucosa at the high dose level at the end of treatment period. Based on these results, it was concluded that 28 days repeated oral dose of gemifloxacin caused increases in the liver weight, WBC count, T-BIL, glucose level, ALT, decreasing the TP, cause chronic hepatitis and acute gastritis, erosion of the articular surface of joint and histopathologic changes in Achilles tendon in rats at the dose level of 200 mg/kg/day.

Reactions of sterically demanding phosphinimines R3PNH [R=i-Pr (1), t-Bu (2)] were examined. Reactions with B(C6F5)3 formed the adducts (R3PNH)B(C6F5)3 [R=i-Pr (3), t-Bu (4)] in high yield. On the other hand, 2 reacts with HB(OBu)2, evolving H2 to give t-Bu3PNB(OBu)2 (5). The reaction of 2 equiv of 2 with BH3.SMe2 affords the species (t-Bu3PN)2BH (6). In contrast, the reaction of n-Bu(t-Bu)2PNH with BH3.SMe2 results in the formation of the robust adduct n-Bu(t-Bu)2PNH.BH3 (8). An alternative route to borane-phosphinimide complexes involves Me3SiCl elimination, as exemplified by the reaction of BCl2Ph with n-Bu3PNSiMe3, which gives the product n-Bu3PNBCl(Ph) (9). The corresponding reactions of the parent phosphinimines 1 and 2 with AlH3.NMe2Et give the dimers [(mu-i-Pr3PN)AlH2]2 (10) and [(mu-t-Bu3PN)AlH2]2 (11). Species 11 reacts further with Me3SiO3SCF3 to provide [(mu-t-Bu3PN)AlH(OSO2CF3)]2 (12). The reaction of the lithium salt [t-Bu3PNLi]4 (13) with BCl3 proceeds smoothly to give t-Bu3PNBCl2 (14), which is readily alkylated to give t-Bu3PNBMe2 (15). Subsequent reaction of 15 with B(C6F5)3 results in methyl abstraction and the formation of [(mu-t-Bu3PN)BMe]2[MeB(C6F5)3]2 (16). The reaction of 13 in a 2:1 ratio with BCl3 gives the salt [(t-Bu3PN)2B]Cl (17). This species can be methylated to give (t-Bu3PN)2BMe (18), which undergoes subsequent reaction with [Ph3C][X] (X=[B(C6F5)4], [PF6]) to form the related salts [(t-Bu3PN)2B][B(C6F5)4] (19) and [(t-Bu3PN)2B][PF6] (20), respectively. Analogous reactions with [Ph3C][BF4] afforded [t-Bu3PNBF2]2 (21). Compounds 3, 4, 6, 8, 11, 12, 17, 19, and 21 were characterized by X-ray crystallography.

Non-hodgkin`s lymphoma (NHL) is the most common haematological malignancy which is seen in HIV infected patients. Among NHLs, immunoblastic lymphomas are most common and a majority of these are diffuse large B-cell lymphomas. Multiple myeloma is a disease of the elderly. It is extremely rare below 30 years of age. On the other hand, in HIV infected individuals, the average age of presentation with plasma cell disorders is 33 years, which is far younger than the average age of presentation in general population. The incidence of AIDS defining malignancies has declined markedly, whereas non-AIDS defining cancers are being increasingly diagnosed in patients with HIV infection during the HAART-era and they may be the presenting manifestations of AIDS. Multiple myeloma, however, usually is not a first presenting feature of AIDS. The usual clinical presentation of multiple myeloma is bone pain and pallor. Pancytopaenia is a rare presenting feature of multiple myeloma. Here, we are reporting a case of pancytopaenia which occurred in a 28-year-old, newly diagnosed, HIV-1 positive female, who with the help of bone marrow examination and further investigations, was subsequently diagnosed as multiple myeloma.

Complexes of the form (Nacnac)Ni(η 5 -L) (L = Cp (3), indenyl (4)) are readily prepared and have been protonated to generate the corresponding cationic species [(HNacNac)Ni(η 5 -L)][B(C6F5)4] (L = Cp (5), indenyl (6)). While the symmetric compound 3 is paramagnetic, disruption of the symmetry in 4-6 results in diamagnetism. The species [((Nacnac)Ni) 2 (μ-η 5 :η 5 -Cp)][B(C6F5)4] (7) was prepared in an unusual fashion from the reaction of [(NacNac)Ni]2(η 6 :η 6 -C 6 H 5 Me) (2) with [Ph 3 C][B(C 6 F 5 ) 4 ] and Cp 2 ZrMe 2 , while compound 3 serves as a synthon to the neutral bimetallic Ni(II)/Ni(I) species [((Nacnac)Ni) 2 (μ-η 2 :η 2 -Cp)] (8). Compounds 7 and 8 are readily interconverted electrochemically. Consideration of the molecular orbitals reveals that the unpaired electron in 8 prompts alteration of the nature of the bridging cyclopentadienyl ligand between the metal centers. Crystal structures of 3-5, 7, and 8 are reported.
