A combination of intra-row spacings, sowing dates, and pesticides on cowpea damage and control caused by M. vitrata was carried out towards developing an integrated pest management of M. vitrata on cowpea. The experiment was laid out in split-split plot design. Intra-row spacing and sowing dates were respectively allocated to the main and sub-plot while pesticides were allocated to the sub-sub-plot. The treatments were randomized and replicated three times. Data collected were subjected to the analysis of variance and means were separated using LSD at 5%. The result showed that varying intra-row spacings did not have any significant effect (P>0.05) on cowpea flower damage by M. vitrata at 10 WAS in all the years and the combine except in 2016. INTRODUCTION: Reducing hands-off time during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is believed to increase survival after cardiac arrests because of the sustaining of organ perfusion. The aim of our study was to investigate whether charging the defibrillator before rhythm analyses and shock delivery significantly reduced hands-off time compared with the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) 2010 CPR guideline algorithm in full-scale cardiac arrest scenarios.METHODS: The study was designed as a full-scale cardiac arrest simulation study including administration of drugs. Participants were randomized into using the Stop-Only-While-Shocking (SOWS) algorithm or the ERC2010 algorithm. In SOWS, chest compressions were only interrupted for a post-charging rhythm analysis and immediate shock delivery. A Resusci Anne HLR-D manikin and a LIFEPACK 20 defibrillator were used. The manikin recorded time and chest compressions.RESULTS: Sample size was calculated with an α of 0.05 and 80% power showed that we should test four scenarios with each algorithm. Twenty-nine physicians participated in 11 scenarios. Hands-off time was significantly reduced 17% using the SOWS algorithm compared with ERC2010 [22.1% (SD 2.3) hands-off time vs. 26.6% (SD 4.8); PCONCLUSION: In full-scale cardiac arrest simulations, a minor change consisting of charging the defibrillator before rhythm check reduces hands-off time by 17% compared with ERC2010 guidelines.

We performed a retrospective study to assess if vertebral fracture assessment (VFA) after routine bone mineral density (BMD) measurement on a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) machine had increased the number of patients diagnosed with osteoporosis and revealed previous unknown incident vertebral fractures. A total of 3275 patients were referred to bone densitometry by DXA to be screened for osteoporosis or evaluation of ongoing antiosteoporotic treatment. All spine X-rays obtained at our hospital from the same patients in the period from 3 mo before to 3 mo after the date of DXA scans were reviewed. Among the 3275 patients, 85% were females and 15% were males. In total, 68% of the patients had normal BMD, and 32% had osteoporosis. Vertebral fractures diagnosed by VFA were seen in 7.9% patients, of which 3.2% had normal BMD and 4.8% had osteoporosis assessed by BMD. The relative number of patients diagnosed with osteoporosis increased 9.79% and in absolute terms from 32.4% to 35.6% of patients referred to DXA. Addition of VFA to routine BMD measurement increased clinically significant the number of patients diagnosed with osteoporosis as well as the number of patients with fractures and thereby altered the severity and prognosis.
