THEOLOGIANS , *DOCTRINAL theology , *CHRISTIANITY , *THEOLOGY ,BIBLICAL commentaries - Abstract
Several Patristic scholars take Origen of Alexandria (c. 185-254) to be the first major Christian theologian. Thanks to a detailed exegesis of the Bible, Origen presented a comprehensive interpretation, exposing the Scriptures in the form of commentaries and homilies, as well as creating a system of Christian doctrine in multiple treatises. His creativity was rooted in the Bible as a source of themes, and in a peculiar method ruled by allegory, in terms of analysis and interpretation. When it comes to intellectual formation, Origen was an exponent of Christian theology and an enthusiastic follower of Plato in such a way that some experts in his thought usually define the general marks of Christian Platonism, appointing to their disagreements only as a secondary issue. The Judaic theological tradition in Alexandria, starting with the hellenization of the Scriptures represented by the Septuagint, was established in the work of Philo, a follower of Plato that considerably influenced many Christian theologians. Already present by the time of the Museum of Alexandria, the Alexandrian Platonism experienced a power increase when, in the fourth century, the Christian Theology School of Antioch emerged, in Siria. Aristotelian in inclination, it championed the anti-allegoric literal exegesis of the Bible, against Plato, becoming Alexandria’s rival. For this reason, Platonism and Origen himself were rejected by the School of Antioch. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research presents a systematic spatiotemporal assessment of solar radiation and wind speed patterns throughout the Department of Antioquia, Colombia, employing advanced machine learning methodologies to evaluate renewable resource potential. The investigation aligns with Colombia's strategic energy transition framework, which targets a 51 % reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 relative to baseline projections. Through hierarchical clustering analysis, five distinct groups of municipalities were identified, revealing significant solar potential with radiation averages between 4.6 and 5.0 kWh/m2, reaching maximum values of 5.4 kWh/m2 in the Magdalena Medio subregion. This solar availability exceeds 60 % of Colombia's maximum reported values, indicating substantial potential for photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal projects. In contrast, the wind resource assessment shows limited viability for utility-scale wind energy development, with speeds rarely exceeding 3 m/s even at a height of 100 m, resulting in capacity factors between 4.1 % and 11.8 % in coastal onshore and offshore areas, respectively. Temporal analysis across solstices and equinoxes confirms year-round consistency in solar radiation, attributed to the region's equatorial location, while maintaining stable patterns across the identified clusters. The demonstrated synergy between reliable solar resources and Antioquia's abundant hydroelectric infrastructure supports the development of hybrid systems, particularly solar-hydroelectric integration, with promising applications in both electricity generation and green hydrogen production. Furthermore, the Magdalena Medio and northern Urabá subregions emerge as prime candidates for solar energy projects, offering strategic opportunities for industrial-scale renewable deployment. This research provides crucial insights for Colombia's decarbonization roadmap, emphasizing Antioquia's significant solar energy potential as a cornerstone for transitioning towards a sustainable and diversified energy matrix.

We describe and illustrate Freziera antioquensis (Pentaphylacaceae), a new species, known from two specimens collected in the Cordillera Occidental of Colombia, Antioquia department, in the Chocó Biogeographic region. Among the morphological attributes that distinguish this new species from its congeners is the dense pubescence, with long trichomes, covering the young branches, petioles and underside of the leaf blades, as well as the absence of trichomes on the bracteoles and sepals. With the description of this species, Colombia has about 27 species of Freziera, 12 of which are endemic and known from only one or two herbarium specimens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT Cryptosporidium spp. are important enteropathogen protozoan parasites that infect humans and other animals throughout the world. Cryptosporidiosis in cattle industry leads to considerable economic losses due to diarrhea, dehydration, growth retardation, weight loss, and possibly death, however, data on the occurrence ofCryptosporidiumspp. in cattle in Colombia are limited. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the occurrence and possible factors associated to the excretion of Cryptosporidium spp. oocyst in pre-weaned calves from dairy farms in Northern Antioquia, Colombia. In addition, Sheather’s sugar floatation (SSF), and Modified Ziehl-Neelsen staining (MZN) methods were compared. A total of 41 fecal samples were collected from calves between 1 and 92 days of age of which 23 were positive (56.1%). Crossbreed calves were nine times less susceptible than purebred dairy cattle to excretion of Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts (OR=0.10). MZN was the best technique for the detection of oocysts in fecal samples, however, the mean number of days to detect cryptosporidial oocysts was lower for the SSF method. Cryptosporidium is widespread among calves under 2 months of age in dairy herds of Northern Antioquia, although further investigations considering a greater number of farms and animals are necessary.

EFL teachers’ professional development in Colombia has been characterized by top-down policies that neglect the regions in terms of contextualized professional development programs and resources. This article is an effort to make EFL teachers’ needs in the Eastern region of Antioquia, Colombia, visible for academic institutions and local authorities to propose coherent professional development programs. This report is based on a section of the findings of a larger study called “Diagnosis of the needs about plurilingualism in the regions of Antioquia”. Findings show that EFL teachers in the Eastern region claim for ongoing and contextualized professional development programs, differentiated for primary and secondary-school teachers, and focused on instructional material design and adaptation according to the resources available in the local communities. Conclusions from this study outline implications for educational institutions to support teachers in pursuing their professional development within their contexts, methodological limitations for researchers, and possibilities for further research for stakeholders in the territory.

MITOCHONDRIAL DNA , *ANTHROPOMETRY , *ASIANS , *GLACIAL Epoch , *INDIGENOUS peoples , *ICE caps - Abstract
This article presents a comprehensive genetic study focused on pre-Hispanic individuals who inhabited the Aburrá Valley in Antioquia, Colombia, between the tenth and seventeenth centuries AD. Employing a genetic approach, the study analyzed maternal lineages using DNA samples obtained from skeletal remains. The results illuminate a remarkable degree of biological diversity within these populations and provide insights into their genetic connections with other ancient and indigenous groups across the American continent. The findings strongly support the widely accepted hypothesis that the migration of the first American settlers occurred through Beringia, a land bridge connecting Siberia to North America during the last Ice Age. Subsequently, these early settlers journeyed southward, crossing the North American ice cap. Of particular note, the study unveils the presence of ancestral lineages from Asian populations, which played a pivotal role in populating the Americas. The implications of these results extend beyond delineating migratory routes and settlement patterns of ancient populations. They also enrich our understanding of the genetic diversity inherent in indigenous populations of the region. By revealing the genetic heritage of pre-Hispanic individuals from the Aburrá Valley, this study offers valuable insights into the history of human migration and settlement in the Americas. Furthermore, it enhances our comprehension of the intricate genetic tapestry that characterizes indigenous communities in the area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article analyzes the journeys of eleven African captives up to their arrival in the province of Antioquia in the northern part of the New Kingdom of Granada, where Spanish enslavers had introduced thousands of enslaved people, especially after the 1580 discovery of large gold deposits in Zaragoza. Based on the proof of sales provided in a lawsuit filed in 1589, the article traces the trans-Atlantic and intra-American journeys and, drawing on the terms used as surnames to distinguish the captives, examines the socio-political and economic contexts of the Upper Guinea Coast and Angola from which they came. Moreover, it analyzes the official and unofficial captive mobilities used by enslavers in the last decades of the sixteenth century to forcibly transport Africans through intra-American ports such as Concepción, Tolú, Santa Marta or Mompox to the newly discovered gold mines of Zaragoza in Antioquia. Modernist dogma declares that 'form follows function', which historically has led to the design of buildings that tightly prescribe what can happen where and when. These uni‐functional spaces often lack a sense of happy expediency and joy. Columbian architect Giancarlo Mazzanti believes spaces and buildings should occupy a twilight zone that facilitates changes of function, is performative, and encourages unexpected social interactions between users and the city. Here he explains some of his firm's spatial tactics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Efficient management of land use/land cover (LULC) features is vital for a balanced sustainable ecosystem. Thus, this work aimed to document the LULC changes in the less studied El Peñol-Guatapé reservoir, Antioquia, Colombia, especially in the reservoir area due to the construction of a hydro-electric power plant. For this study, Landsat images of 1977, 1986, 1997, and 2017 were used and the results indicated an increase in the settlement area and road networks by 0.10 and 0.60%, respectively, while during 1986 to 2017, cropland, plantation, dense forest, and open forest areas presented an increase of 0.52, 1.06, 2.87 and 2.61%, respectively. However, the marshy vegetation, scrub forest and fallow land decreased to − 0.51, − 3.79 and − 4.29%, respectively, in the same period. The water body before and after the completion of reservoir project denoted an increase from 13.1 km
2 in 1977 to 45.7 km2 in 1986. This study provides a first-hand report on LULC dynamics in this tourism dominated municipalities that will serve as a reference for ecosystem management to reconcile the conflicts between different LULC classes in ecologically enriched regions. los fragmentos aquí transcritos hacen parte de una disputa familiar que se vivió en las márgenes del río San Juan de Antioquia a mediados del siglo XIX.

The study deals with the Alexandrian and Antiochian events of the years 362-363, with the unsuccessful attempts at reconciliation between the various dissenting anti-Arian groups. The focus is on the failure to achieve ecclesial communion between Athanasius and Meletius. Although ecclesial politics motives were certainly very influential, the study tries to show that theological motives should not be overlooked either, namely the deficient pneumatology of the Meletians. los manuscritos aquí transcritos son dos piezas excepcionales de la historia de la diáspora africana en América que yacen en el Archivo Histórico de Antioquia.

Infrastructural design, transport and mobility policies are strong instruments for interpreting historical urban and regional transformation processes. The paper addresses the intercausalities between both of them. To do so, it briefly sketches debates on the causalities of transport infrastructure and urbanisation and the theory of technological politics, drawing attention to the relationship between transport infrastructure and politics, and how infrastructures and their techno-political frames include means of power and authority. From there, the paper moves to the debate on the relationship between social justice and transport, showing how transport systems embody social processes and social (in)injustice. The history of agrarian extractivism in the region of Urabá in Colombia serves as a case study. The paper shows how existing transport networks of the region of Urabá have supported the expansion of agrarian extractivist industries and more specifically the production of transport (in)justice. It explores the development of the infrastructural network, transport systems and urbanisation of this region from the early 1900s onwards. Results show how the actual agrarian extractivist industries of the region are causing huge challenges related to the overlapping of transport scales, congestion and risks of accidents in urban areas, and how actual transport dynamics in the region are affecting urban development, generating a high segregation characterised by uneven distributions of public services and transport infrastructures. The paper reveals that the existing transport developments in the region of Urabá have no support for local development and are mainly thought for the efficiency of agrarian extractivist industries over local economic development. Agrarian extractivism has been a consistent factor in the economic, political and social spheres, and since colonial times the appropriation of natural resources and the dispossession of territories has been omnipresent. This paper explores the historical role of transport in agrarian extractivism, the long-term impact of the prolongation of old mechanisms, and the interrelations of the latter with current urbanisation and development. It concludes that infrastructural developments in this region have supported agrarian extractivist industries, first in colonial times, but also more recently, showing the deep embeddedness of the relation between mobility and urbanity in the (agrarian extractivist) development history of this region.

Objective: To describe the factors associated with adherence to the World Health Organization's physical activity (PA) recommendations in adults from Antioquia-Colombia Methodology: A cross-sectional analysis of the database of the "Food and nutritional Profile of Antioquia" was carried out. PA was inquired in 2,757 adults (18-64-year-olds), using the World Health Organization's "Global Physical Activity Questionnaire". Bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed, exploring the relationship between socioeconomic, demographic and nutritional status variables and adherence to PA recommendations. Results: A higher prevalence of adherence to PA recommendations was observed in men compared to women (60.8 vs. 48.0 %; p < 0.001) and in young adults (18-29) compared to in adults older than 29 years of age (66.8 vs. 49.3 %; p < 0.001). In addition, adherence to PA recommendations was higher in people with high socioeconomic status, a high educational level and residents of urban areas. Being a woman, belonging to socioeconomic stratum 1, having high school or a lower level of education, and having as an occupation household chores were associated with a lower probability of adherence to PA recommendations; while being young is associated with greater adherence. Conclusion: Inequalities in adherence to FA recommendations by adults in Antioquia are evident. Women and people over 30 years of age with low socioeconomic status and low educational levels should be prioritized in plans and programs aimed at promoting the practice of PA in the department.

Alloneuron trinervium, a new species of Melastomataceae known only from the type locality in Antioquia Department, northwestern Colombia, is described and illustrated. This new species is the only one in Alloneuron with three basal veins, a venation pattern that is intermediate between semi-craspedodromous (found in all other members of the genus) and acrodromous (predominant in the rest of the family). Alloneurum trinervium is further distinguished by the paniculate inflorescences with 4-merous, pedicellate flowers arranged in monochasial cymes bearing 3(−5) flowers along the filiform paracladia. This is the first species in the genus found in an inter-Andean valley and not in the eastern slope of the Andes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective/Context: The article argues that the lawsuits for unequal marriages in the Province of Antioquia, at the end of the 18th century, highlighted the emotional dimensions of the Spanish Empire by showing the strategies in language, practices, and dilemmas of those involved in these judicial proceedings, who sought to move within the limits of an emotional empire. Through policies such as the Pragmática Sanción of 1776 and the Real Cédula of 1778, to fend off unequal marriages in Spain and the colonies in America, the Empire endeavored to maintain and monitor the social order by controlling moral sentiments such as honor. Methodology: An analysis is made of how judicial mechanisms and ecclesiastical collaboration worked in cases of lawsuits for unequal marriages. Next, we debate how and who established the inequality or equality of those who wanted to marry. The concept of honor structuring an emotional empire, with the figure of the King as the father, brings us to a close. The research stems from an analysis of “unequal marriage” lawsuits in Antioquia at the end of the 18th century and the secondary bibliography about the family, the public and private life of Hispanic America in the 18th century, and the historiography of moral sentiments. Originality: The article contributes to transcending historiographic barriers by proposing that moral sentiments are crosscutting to the spheres of politics, the economy, and public and private life. We highlight that the Spanish Empire at the end of the 18th century functioned on the basis of an emotional regime of honor. Conclusions: We conclude that the Spanish Empire operated as an emotional regime, in which honor was the structuring element of the politics and the relations between the subjects and the King.
