Iatrogenic bladder rupture in children during a retrograde cystourethrography is very uncommon. We present a case of iatrogenic intraperitoneal bladder rupture in a 9-month child during the retrograde cystourethrography performed by a radiologist. The child presented in a paediatric emergency after 6 h with an acute abdomen indicating urinary peritonitis. An urgent laparotomy was performed and the perforation was repaired in two layers. The follow-up was unremarkable. This report emphasises the importance of respecting the criteria of the proper retrograde cystourethrography imaging procedure.

This study aims to assess the diagnostic accuracy of non-contrast-enhanced 4D MR angiography (NCE-4D-MRA) compared to contrast-enhanced 4D MR angiography (CE-4D-MRA) for the detection and angioarchitectural characterisation of brain arteriovenous malformations (bAVMs). Utilising a retrospective design, we examined 54 MRA pairs from 43 patients with bAVMs, using digital subtraction angiography (DSA) as the reference standard. Both NCE-4D-MRA and CE-4D-MRA were performed using a 3-T MR imaging system. The primary objectives were to evaluate the diagnostic performance of NCE-4D-MRA against CE-4D-MRA and DSA and to assess concordance between imaging modalities in grading bAVMs according to four main scales: Spetzler–Martin, Buffalo, AVM embocure score (AVMES), and R2eDAVM. Our results demonstrated that NCE-4D-MRA had a higher accuracy and specificity compared to CE-4D-MRA (0.85 vs. 0.83 and 95% vs. 85%, respectively) and similar agreement, with DSA detecting shunts in bAVMs or residuals. Concordance in grading bAVMs was substantial between NCE-4D-MRA and DSA, particularly for the Spetzler–Martin and Buffalo scales, with CE-4D-MRA showing slightly higher kappa values for interobserver agreement. The study highlights the potential of NCE-4D-MRA as a diagnostic tool for bAVMs, offering comparable accuracy to CE-4D-MRA while avoiding the risks associated with gadolinium-based contrast agents. The safety profile of imaging techniques is a significant concern in the long-term follow up of bAVMs, and further prospective research should focus on NCE-4D-MRA protocol improvement for clinical use.

The elongation of the bolt hole is an important parameter for assessing the failure of bolted joints. However, direct experimental measurement using strain gauges and extensometers is difficult. This article shows that digital image correlation (DIC) can overcome the difficulties and provide important indications of the failure mechanisms of bolted joints. Hole elongation was measured using DIC in the following carbon/epoxy composite configurations: standard open-hole tensile (OHT) and filled-hole tensile (FHT), single-lap shear only-bolted (OB), and single-lap shear hybrid-bolted/bonded (HBB) joints. For each configuration, the hole-elongation changes were tracked for cross-ply (CP) and quasi-isotropic (QI) stacking sequences with two thicknesses. In the tensile load direction for OHT and FHT cases, CP showed a greater hole elongation than QI. However, the opposite trend was observed in the transverse direction. In OB joints, bypass loads contributed more to the hole elongation than bearing action. In HBB joints, it has been observed that the adhesive significantly reduces hole elongation, particularly for CP configurations. Moreover, it was found that in HBB joints, hole elongation was independent of laminate lay-up, while it was very determinative in OB joints.

Background: Mobile applications play a crucial role in postnatal, contraception, and prenatal care, offering vital monitoring and resources for mothers and infants. This study assessed the software product quality (SPQ) (the degree to which a software product meets specified requirements and user expectations) of three reproductive health monitoring mobile applications, employing ISO/IEC 25010 and ISO/IEC 25023 standards. The objective was to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each app, thereby providing valuable information for potential users. By identifying areas requiring enhancement, this study improves the overall quality and usability of these applications. Methods: We implemented a three-step analysis process, examining the sub-features and features outlined in the ISO/IEC 25010 standard for software product quality, encompassing functionality, reliability, usability, efficiency, and maintainability. Subsequently, we formulated a checklist summarizing the influence of the three mobile applications on SPQ. Finally, we calculated the impact of each requirement block on both SPQ and quality in use (QIU) models. Results: The results show that the functional suitability SPQ characteristic is greatly influenced by the predefined requirements, with subsequent impacts on the operability, performance efficiency, reliability, and security SPQ characteristics. Thus, developers, designers, and testers must integrate these requirements across the developmental stages of health mobile applications to create a high-quality, patient-centered product with substantial added value. Conclusions: This study has produced a range of requirements tailored for pregnancy monitoring and childcare applications, serving as a valuable reference for developers aiming to create high-quality applications and evaluate their quality effectively. It underscores the importance of integrating SPQ characteristics into the software development process to ensure the creation of high-quality products with essential key performance indicators (KPIs). Such considerations facilitate better evaluations in application stores and increase user adoption and satisfaction levels.

Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) could be useful as an early warning system for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic spread. Viruses are highly diluted in wastewater. Therefore, a virus concentration step is needed for SARS-CoV-2 wastewater detection. We tested the efficiency of three wastewater viral concentration methods: ultrafiltration (UF), electronegative membrane filtration and aluminum hydroxide adsorption–elution. We spiked wastewater with inactivated SARS-CoV-2 and we collected 20 other wastewater samples from five sites in Tunisia. Samples were concentrated by the three methods and SARS-CoV-2 was quantified by reverse transcription digital PCR (RT-dPCR). The most efficient method was UF with a mean SARS-CoV-2 recovery of 54.03 ± 8.25. Moreover, this method provided significantly greater mean concentration and virus detection ability (95%) than the two other methods. The second-most efficient method used electronegative membrane filtration with a mean SARS-CoV-2 recovery of 25.59 ± 5.04% and the least efficient method was aluminum hydroxide adsorption–elution. This study suggests that the UF method provides rapid and straightforward recovery of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater. In this study, a chemical precipitation approach was adopted to produce a photocatalyst based on bismuth tungstate Bi2WO6 for enhanced and environmentally friendly organic pollutant degradation. Various tools such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, were employed to assess the structural and morphological properties. Hence, the XRD profiles showed a well crystallized Bi2WO6 orthorhombic phase. The photocatalytic performance of the resulting photocatalyst was assessed by the decomposition of Rhodamine B (RhB) and methyl orange (MO) with a decomposition efficiency of 97 and 92%, along with the highest chemical oxygen demand of 82 and 79% during 120 min of illumination, respectively. The principal novelty of the present work is to focus on the changes in the crystalline structure, the morphology, and the optical and the photoelectrochemical characteristics of the Bi2WO6, by tuning the annealing temperature of the designed photocatalyst. Such physicochemical property changes in the as-prepared photocatalyst will affect in turn its photocatalytic activity toward the organic pollutant decomposition. The photocatalytic mechanism was elaborated based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, photocurrent analysis, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and radical trapping measurements. The overall data indicate that the superoxide O2•− and holes h+ are the principal species responsible for the pollutant photodegradation.

Mesenchymal hamartoma (MH) is a benign liver tumor accounting for 3% to 8% of all liver tumors in children, commonly manifesting before 3 years of life. Distinguishing MH from hepatoblastoma and other liver tumors relies on imaging and alpha-fetoprotein (which is usually within normal range in MH), before histologic examination. We report a case of a hepatic MH associated with elevated alpha-fetoprotein, leading to a misdiagnosis of hepatoblastoma and the administration of chemotherapy. We draw the attention to the diagnostic difficulty and pitfalls related to alpha-fetoprotein elevation in the setting of a liver tumor, and we highlight the importance of imaging and histology in establishing the diagnosis.
