In this work, thiazolium and imidazolium hybrid materials (SBA-15-Thia and SBA-15-Imi) were prepared by grafting the bis-vinylthiazolium or imidazolium salts onto thiol functionalized SBA-15 mesostructured silica. The catalytic activity was tested for the etherification of 1-phenylethanol, in heterogeneous conditions. The reactions were performed under different gas phases and reaction times. The SBA-15-Thia displayed an excellent catalytic performance, also with others benzyl alcohols. This material was successfully used in seven consecutive runs. Further studies were carried out in homogenous conditions. The results obtained allow proving that oxygen play an active role in the reaction probably regenerating the catalysts. This study represents the first use of thiazolium-based compounds as catalysts for the etherification reaction of alcohols.

I liquidi ionici supportati (SILP) hanno trovato interessanti applicazioni sia nel campo delle reazioni catalizzate da metalli che in organocatalisi [1]. Inoltre, i SILP sono stati efficacemente impiegati in reazioni di apertura di epossidi in CO2 supercritica per fornire carbonati ciclici [2]. I liquidi ionici vengono generalmente supportati covalentemente attraverso la modificazione dei gruppi funzionali presenti sulla superficie del supporto, conducendo in tal modo alla formazione di un monostrato di liquido ionico supportato. Gli esempi di SILP legati covalentemente, in maniera tale da ottenere dei multistrato, sono rari. In questa comunicazione viene riportato un metodo per preparare dei sali di imidazolio supportati covalentemente e il loro impiego come: a) catalizzatori riciclabili per la reazione di epossidi con CO2 supercritica per fornire carbonati ciclici, e b) supporti per nanoparticelle di palladio e l’impiego di tali materiali come catalizzatori riciclabili per la reazione di Suzuki in ambiente acquoso fra acidi boronici e bromuri arilici.

In the framework of MORFEO project, financed by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), a study is currently under way to estimate and validate monitoring technologies of deformations with SAR data, to the implementation of a pre-operational service supporting the Civil Protection Department in landslide risk monitoring. The study on ground deformations is performed in MORFEO by applying two different technologies: SBAS developed by CNR-IREA in Naples and SPINUA developed by Politecnico of Bari. These technologies work with SAR data in C band and the use of X band data acquired by COSMO/SKY-MED is under trial. In particular the present report describes the generation and validation activities of EO SAR products (Synthetic Aperture Radar) obtained in landslide areas in Lombardia and Umbria by using ascending and descending passages of ENVISAT satellite. The results obtained in Umbria highlight the presence of deformation phenomena in the area corresponding to the landslide region in Ivancich (Assisi). A general accordance between GPS and SAR sets results by the comparison. In Lombardia GPS deformation time sets have been estimated for SAR data validation. This has highlighted the potential and limits of SAR interferometric techniques for landslide monitoring in an alpine context. Moreover, a first multi-temporal interferometric analysis in X band has been carried out through the SPINUA algorithm. Preliminary results over the area of GARZENO (COMO) show that even with a limited number of COSMO/SkyMED images, there is a good agreement with linear displacement rate maps estimated in C-band. An accurate investigation shall be feasible as soon as a consistent number of COSMO/SkyMED acquisitions is available (not less than 25-30).

Aims and Background Gastrinomas are the most common neuroendocrine tumors of the duodenopancreatic region. Surgical resection is the primary type of radical treatment. Methods and Study Design At the Institute of General, Gastrointestinal and Breast Surgery we treated a patient with a duodenal gastrinoma that was diagnosed and localized by means of selective celiacmesenteric angiography and labeled octreotide scintigraphy. Surgery was performed using a radioguided technique; in this way we easily detected the small tumor and discovered another tracer-uptaking lesion that turned out to be a metastatic lymph node. Results Surgical resection is the ideal treatment for sporadic gastrinoma: it improves quality of life, prolongs survival, and reduces the incidence of metastases, with a modest percentage of complications and practically zero mortality. Meanwhile, medical treatment is being revaluated, particulary in the case of metastatic disease or polyendocrine MEN1 syndrome. A fundamental aspect in the management of gastrinomas is tumor localization. Endoscopic ultrasonography and labeled octreotide scintigraphy (Octreoscan) proved to be more effective than the usual imaging modalities. Intraoperative ultrasonography, gastroscopy for duodenal transillumination and repeated measurement of blood gastrin levels should be performed intraoperatively in the surgical treatment of gastrinomas. Conclusions The clinical application of radioguided surgery for tracer-uptaking endocrine tumors is still controversial. In our case the decision to use this method was influenced by the fear that the patient's obesity and the effects of previous surgery could hamper the identification of the small tumor.

Ethnic and racial differences between client and therapist affect therapy processes and outcomes, but little is known about the extent to which therapists have dialogues about their differences in therapy. A survey on this topic was completed by 689 APA-licensed psychologists with experience conducting cross-cultural therapy. Most psychologists reported having such discussions, but with less than half of their cross-ethnic/racial clients. Therapists and clients were equally likely to initiate discussions. Reasons for discussing differences varied greatly. Therapists consistently described themselves as comfortable with and skilled at these discussions, and reported that discussions facilitated therapy. Therapists who were female, older, nonminority, less experienced with diverse clients, and viewed training as an important factor were more likely to have discussions about differences.
