Introduction: suicidal behavior is a health problem that results in a high risk for the physical and psychological integrity of the individual. Objective: to characterize suicidal behavior in the Province of Villa Clara in the period from January 2016 to December 2020. Methods: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out. 5,700 patients who had suicidal behavior in the province during the period studied were studied. To obtain the necessary information, the notifiable disease cards were reviewed. The quantitative variables were described using absolute frequencies, relative frequencies and rates. Results: the year 2016 showed a higher incidence of suicide attempts, with a rate of 160x100 000 inhabitants. The mortality rate from suicide was higher in males and in patients 80 years of age and older, including both sexes. Suicide attempts were recorded at a higher rate in female patients between 25 and 59 years old. The highest rate per 100,000 inhabitants of suicide attempts was recorded in the Municipality of Camajuaní (163.6) and the highest mortality rate due to suicide in the Municipality of Corralillo (29.4). Conclusions: more than half of those who died by suicide had premature mortality and the rate of years of potential life lost was lower than the national rate. The municipalities with the highest mortality from suicide and the highest mortality from suicide attempts were those with the greatest number of rural areas.

Introducción: las infecciones asociadas a la asistencia sanitaria constituyen un problema de salud pública por el aumento de la morbilidad y la mortalidad que producen en los pacientes hospitalizados y por el incremento de costos de hospitalización. Objetivo: describir el comportamiento epidemiológico de las infecciones asociadas a la asistencia sanitaria en el Hospital “Mártires del 9 de abril” de Sagua la Grande entre los años 2014 y 2017. Métodos: estudio descriptivo, de corte transversal. Universo: total de infecciones asociadas a la asistencia sanitaria informadas en el período de estudio. Variables estudiadas: edad, sexo, tipo, microorganismos aislados, servicios en que se registraron y uso de la Microbiología para su estudio. Resultados: la tasa de incidencia del cuatrienio fue de 0,6 cada 100 egresos, el 44,4% de las infecciones informadas correspondieron al aparato respiratorio y el 53,2% se produjeron en el grupo de edades de 60 y más años. El 43% de los microorganismos aislados fueron Staphylococcus aureus. En el 52,2% de las infecciones se realizaron estudios microbiológicos y en el 75,3% de los casos se obtuvo un resultado positivo. Las tasas más altas correspondieron a las Especialidades de Terapia (4,5%), Nefrología (2,5%) y Geriatría (1,8%). Conclusiones: predominaron el sexo masculino, el grupo de edades de 60 años y más y las infecciones del aparato respiratorio. El Staphylococcus aureus fue el germen más aislado. Los pacientes del sexo masculino, a partir de los 60 años de edad y que padecieron una infección del aparato respiratorio, tuvieron el mayor riesgo de morir.

Introduction: in dialyzed patients, it has been observed a high incidence of hepatitis since the beginning of dialysis as a substitute treatment for renal function. In hemodialysis a prevalence of 13% is observed, with a high variability (from one to 70%). Objective: to determine the prevalence of hepatitis C and its associated factors in dialyzed patients. Method: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was performed; the universe of study consisted of the 169 patients who were under dialysis treatment. The variables studied were age, sex, time of dialysis, history of renal transplantation and dialysis method. Results: a prevalence of 36,7% was observed among the patients studied. As for sex the male (37,5%) was the most affected and by age group from 25 to 34 years (55,6%). Of 91,3% was the prevalence among patients with more than three years of dialysis treatment, of 78,6% among those who reported antecedents of renal transplantation and 38,7% in the case of patients receiving hemodialysis as treatment renal replacement. Conclusions: the time of treatment in hemodialysis was the factor of greatest association with hepatitis C infection in dialyzed patients.

Se realizó un estudio en el Policlínico "Mártires del 8 de abril" del municipio Quemado de Güines, provincia de Villa Clara, en el mes de marzo del año 2000 para conocer los niveles teóricos que sobre reanimación cardiopulmorar tienen los Médicos de Familia del municipio. Se aplicó un cuestionario de 13 preguntas a 63 galenos, y solamente 21 de los encuestados (34,42 %) habían recibido algún tipo de adiestramiento en reanimación cardiopulmonar. En 9 de las 13 preguntas se obtuvo más 60 % de positividad en las respuestas. Por los resultados obtenidos podemos afirmar que los encuestados tienen un aceptable nivel de conocimientos teóricos en este sentido, aunque presentan algunas deficiencias como es el caso del manejo de la vía aérea.

Se realizó un estudio durante el segundo semestre del año 1997 en el Policlínico "Mártires del 8 de Abril" del municipio Quemado de Güines, provincia Villa Clara, con el objetivo de contribuir al desarrollo de la formación y educación del Médico y la Enfermera de la Familia como usuarios de la información. Los resultados de la encuesta que se aplicó para determinar el conocimiento y utilización de los recursos informativos, señalan que los encuestados presentan dificultades en este aspecto, por lo que teniendo en cuenta la importancia que como fuerza productiva del desarrollo, tiene la información, resulta necesario resolver las dificultades que como usuarios poseen los profesionales de la salud.A study was carried out during the second half of the year 1997 at the policlinics "Mártires del 8 de abril" in the municipality Quemado de Güines, Villa Clara province, with the aim of contributing to the formation and education development of the family nurse and doctor as information users. The results of the survey applied to determine awareness and use of the information resources, show that the surveyed persons present difficulties on this respect. Thus, taking into consideration the importance of data processing as development production fuel, it is necessary to solve out the difficulties presented by health care professionals as data users.
