Abstract Sequence-specific RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) play central roles in splicing decisions. Here, we describe a modular splicing architecture that leverages in vitro-derived RNA affinity models for 79 human RBPs and the annotated human genome to produce improved models of RBP binding and activity. Binding and activity are modeled by separate Motif and Aggregator components that can be mixed and matched, enforcing sparsity to improve interpretability. Training a new Adjusted Motif (AM) architecture on the splicing task not only yields better splicing predictions but also improves prediction of RBP-binding sites in vivo and of splicing activity, assessed using independent data.

Humans can infer rules for building words in a new language from a handful of examples, and linguists also can infer language patterns across related languages. Here, the authors provide an algorithm which models these grammatical abilities by synthesizing human-understandable programs for building words.

Syntax-Guided Synthesis (SyGuS) is the computational problem of finding an implementation f that meets both a semantic constraint given by a logical formula phi in a background theory T, and a syntactic constraint given by a grammar G, which specifies the allowed set of candidate implementations. Such a synthesis problem can be formally defined in SyGuS-IF, a language that is built on top of SMT-LIB. The Syntax-Guided Synthesis Competition (SyGuS-Comp) is an effort to facilitate, bring together and accelerate research and development of efficient solvers for SyGuS by providing a platform for evaluating different synthesis techniques on a comprehensive set of benchmarks. In this year's competition six new solvers competed on over 1500 benchmarks. This paper presents and analyses the results of SyGuS-Comp'17.

In this year's competition we added two specialized tracks: a track for conditional linear arithmetic, where the grammar need not be specified and is implicitly assumed to be that of the LIA logic of SMT-LIB, and a track for invariant synthesis problems, with special constructs conforming to the structure of an invariant synthesis problem. This paper presents and analyzes the results of SyGuS-comp'15.
