Stafne bone cysts (SBC) are rare, small, well-demarcated, and radiolucent lesions that usually occur below the mandibular canal near the mandibular angle. Despite several theories, the etiopathogenesis of SBC remains unknown. As SBCs usually show no clinical signs, radiographic evaluation is the first stage of the diagnostic process. When the lesions are atypical, as in our instance, correct differential diagnosis is critical. This case study presents an unusual Type I SBC in a 66 year old man and reviews relevant literature.

A mucosal lesion that arises due to long standing chronic irritation is called Epulis fissuratum. It is a benign reactive hyperplastic lesion that commonly develops in the mucosa close to the overextending flanges of the ill-fitting dentures. This paper presents a case of atypical presentation of epulis fissaratum in a 74-year-old woman with history of ill-fitting denture for the past four months. Total excision of such lesions is recommended because they cause problems such as pain and discomfort during mastication and speech.

The a im of this study is to evaluate and compare the efficacy of Nigella sativa (75% v/v) cream and clobetasol propionate (0.05% w/w) gel for the management of oral lichen planus (OLP).Sixty clinically diagnosed cases of OLP were stratified into moderate cases or severe cases based on burning sensation before getting allocated to group I receiving Nigella sativa cream and group II receiving clobetasol propionate gel, two times a day for 45 days. Patients were examined every 15 days for a change in burning sensation and size of the lesion using the numeric pain rating scale (NRS) and a standard Vernier caliper, respectively. Statistical tests including Mann-Whitney U, Wilcoxon signed-rank, Friedman's, Dunn's post hoc, unpaired t, paired t, one-way repeated measures ANOVA, and Bonferroni's post hoc were applied.There was a statistically significant reduction in the burning sensation as well as the size of the lesion in both groups (P ≤ 0.05). There was an 87.8% (moderate cases) and 85.7% (severe cases) reduction in the mean NRS scores on the 45th day in group I when compared to the 96.5% (moderate cases) and 93.48% (severe cases) in group II. There was a 92.9% (moderate cases) and 90.7% (severe cases) reduction in the size of the lesion in group I when compared to the 92.6% (moderate cases) and 93.1% (severe cases) in group II.The topical application of Nigella sativa cream was effective and comparable to clobetasol propionate 0.05% gel in the management of OLP, without any side effects. Hence, this study recommends the use of topical Nigella sativa cream therapy in the management of OLP.The current mainstay of treatment for OLP is the administration of topical or systemic corticosteroids, which are known to cause side effects, demanding a search for an alternative. Nigella sativa oil cream could be a safe, promising, cost-effective, adjunctive, or alternative modality. Clinical trial registration number: CTRI/2020/07/026745 (India).

This systematic review aims to determine whether linear or morphometric analysis of paranasal sinuses can be used for accurate determination of gender and to appraise which sinus can be evaluated for accurate gender determination.A comprehensive search of the specialized databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, Science Direct, Clinical Key, ProQuest, Google Scholar, Epistomonikos, LILACS, OpenGrey) and other institutional repositories was performed for including the studies which assessed paranasal sinuses for gender determination. Quality assessment was carried out with the AQUA tool. The meta-analysis was performed with the eligible study data at 95% CI and p ≤ 0.05 in the random-effects model.Forty-six studies evaluating frontal sinus (13), maxillary sinus (26), frontal and maxillary sinus (5), or three paranasal sinuses (2) were included. All the included studies assessed height, length, width, and volume, respectively, and other additional parameters (area, perimeter) if wherever applicable. Frontal sinus had significantly higher values for males compared to females except for left height (LH) and left volume (LV). Maxillary sinus measurements were significantly higher in males contrasted to females except for LH. Sub-group analyses revealed that analyses involving the population had statistically significant results for all the measured parameters for both the sinuses (p 0.05 and p = 0.00, respectively).Measurements obtained from assessing sinuses reveal that there are variations in size, among populations in different geographic regions. Hence, more studies with improved sample sizes and standardized measurement protocols should be carried out on different populations to see the diversity and their reliability.

BackgroundCOVID-19 vaccine is the mighty weapon opted by all the countries across the globe in an attempt to eradicate the fatal COVID-19 pandemic. The myths on the COVID-19 vaccine are spreading widely, causing a hindrance to this noble preventive measure. The prevalence of such myths among the healthcare professionals may be toxic and deadly.Aim & ObjectivesTo assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of the healthcare professionals regarding the myths on COVID-19 vaccination and to demystify them.Materials and MethodsAn 18-item questionnaire evaluating knowledge, attitude, and practice based on the existing myths on COVID-19 vaccination was circulated through Google Forms® among the 412 healthcare professionals of six disciplines belonging to a private University. The responses obtained were subjected to statistical analysis using SPSS® 20 software package.ResultsA total of 385 health professionals participated in this study. The majority of them had medium knowledge (165) and positive attitude (273) with the mean knowledge and attitude scores of 3.82 ± 1.55 out of 6 and 4.3 ± 1.58 out of 7 respectively. Even though 312 participants got vaccinated, 72 of them failed to receive it. The knowledge scores showed a high statistically significant difference among the participants of different designations (p=0.001), but not with gender, field, and staff with different years of experience (p>0.05). The attitude scores were statistically different among participants of fields and designation (pConclusionThis study recommends more enhanced education programs on COVID-19 vaccination for the health professionals and demands an improved knowledge, attitude, and practice among them to achieve the goal of 100% vaccination so as to completely eradicate the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: India is a major contributor to the global burden of human papilloma virus (HPV) infection and associated diseases like cervical and oropharyngeal cancers. Hence, it is essential to recognize the existing knowledge pool of current healthcare students about HPV and its preventive measures to translate this into benefits for the society in the future. Objective: To determine the awareness and knowledge among dental and medical undergraduate students regarding HPV and its diagnosis and prevention. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled in 577 dental and undergraduate medical students from a tertiary-care teaching hospital. A questionnaire containing 20 closed-ended multiple-choice questions was used to assess their knowledge regarding HPV and its transmission, cervical cancer and its screening, as well as HPV vaccines and their attitude towards them. Descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U test, and Chi square test were employed for statistical analysis. p ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The study consisted of 52.68% dental and 47.31% medical students, with a mean age of 20.95 ± 1.82 years, M:F ratio of 0.7:1, and a mean overall score of 10.75 ± 5.18 (average). The mean scores for knowledge about HPV, its vaccination, and its diagnosis were 7.98 ± 3.26 (good), 1.61 ± 0.95 (average), and 1.15 ± 1.16 (average), respectively. These scores showed no significant difference between the courses as well as the genders (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Overall, the dental and medical undergraduate students presented an average level of knowledge and awareness regarding HPV and its prevention. This reflects a greater need for educating healthcare professionals in order to have a ripple effect on society at large.

In this paper, the microbolometer sub-circuit model has been used in Wheatstone bridge readout configuration to study the application of the model for readout circuit design. The sub-circuit model has been used as both active as well as blind device. The effect of the varying input radiation is analyzed on the integration capacitor and at the output of the bridge. The temperature node of the microbolometer has also been analyzed to see the heating effect of bias current on the device.

In this paper, we present a method of incorporating various types of noise in circuit simulation of a microbolometer infrared detector to analyze the effect of noise on its performance. This ability of simulating electro-thermal performance of microbolometers in circuit simulation platform along with their noise performance allows designing of its suitable readout integrated circuit (ROIC). Being an electro-thermal device, a microbolometer has both the electrical and thermal components interacting with each other. Therefore, the noise sources existing in standard circuit simulators cannot predict the noise of a microbolometer correctly. Disturbances coming from the background radiation, device temperature fluctuations, flicker noise and the Johnson noise etc. contribute in the total noise of a microbolometer element. All these components of noise can be incorporated using the proposed simulation technique. The technique also allows modifying the frequency response of the noise in simulations as per the user defined noise spectrum, making it suitable for any type of microbolometer.

In this paper, we present a generic circuit model of microbolometer Infrared detector that can be used to simulate the electrical and thermal performance of microbolometers using SPICE like circuit simulator. Using this model, we have studied the effects of various parameters on the microbolometer performance by simulations in PSPICE for its verification. We have validated the model with the performance of our titanium microbolometers being developed at our laboratory. We have tuned the model parameters for these microbolometers and have shown that the simulated performance agrees with the measured performance reasonably well with the variety of measurement condition. The validated model has been used to fine tune the design of our titanium microbolometers as it allows us to monitor some internal parameters also that are not easy to measure in practical devices, like instantaneous temperature of microbolometer for a varying IR intensity falling on it. The proposed model is generic and therefore, using similar procedure it may be used for other types of microbolometers also like amorphous-Si based, vanadium oxide based etc., once it is validated for that.
