Magnons, namely spin waves, are collective spin excitations in ferromagnets, and their control through coupling with other excitations is a key technology for future hybrid spintronic devices. Although strong coupling has been demonstrated with microwave photonic structures, an alternative approach permitting high density integration and minimized electromagnetic crosstalk is required. Here we report a planar cavity magnomechanical system, where the cavity of surface acoustic waves enhances the spatial and spectral power density to thus implement magnon-phonon coupling at room temperature. Excitation of spin-wave resonance involves significant acoustic power absorption, whereas the collective spin motion reversely exerts a back-action force on the cavity dynamics. The cavity frequency and quality-factor are significantly modified by the back-action effect, and the resultant cooperativity exceeds unity, suggesting coherent interaction between magnons and phonons. The demonstration of a chip-scale magnomechanical system paves the way to the development of novel spin-acoustic technologies for classical and quantum applications., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

We investigate the dynamics of a microelectromechanical (MEMS) self-sustained oscillator supporting multiple resonating and interacting modes. In particular, the interaction of the first four flexural modes along with the first torsional mode are studied, whereby 1:2, 1:3, and 2:1 internal resonances occur. Even and odd modes are induced to couple by breaking the longitudinal symmetry of the structure. Self-oscillations are induced in the second flexural mode via a gain-feedback loop, thereafter its frequency is pulled into a commensurate frequency ratio with the other modes, enabling the oscillator to act as a driver/pump for four modes simultaneously. This work investigates the behavior of an AlGaAs/GaAs piezoelectric nonlinear MEMS oscillator exhibiting a 1:3 internal resonance. The device is explored in an open-loop configuration, i.e. as a driven resonator, where depending on the drive conditions we observe energy transfer between the first and third modes, and the emergence of supercritical Hopf limit cycles. We examine the dependence of these bifurcations on the oscillator's frequency and amplitude, and reproduce the observed behavior using a system of nonlinearly coupled equations which show interesting scaling behavior., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We experimentally demonstrate the active control of a plasmonic metamaterial operating in the quantum regime. A two-dimensional metamaterial consisting of unit cells made from gold nanorods is investigated. Using an external laser we control the temperature of the metamaterial and carry out quantum process tomography on single-photon polarization-encoded qubits sent through, characterizing the metamaterial as a variable quantum channel. The overall polarization response can be tuned by up to 33% for particular nanorod dimensions. To explain the results, we develop a theoretical model and find that the experimental results match the predicted behavior well. This work goes beyond the use of simple passive quantum plasmonic systems and shows that external control of plasmonic elements enables a flexible device that can be used for quantum state engineering., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

Major construction and initial-phase operation of a second-generation gravitational-wave detector KAGRA has been completed. The entire 3-km detector is installed underground in a mine in order to be isolated from background seismic vibrations on the surface. This allows us to achieve a good sensitivity at low frequencies and high stability of the detector. Bare-bones equipment for the interferometer operation has been installed and the first test run was accomplished in March and April of 2016 with a rather simple configuration. The initial configuration of KAGRA is named {\it iKAGRA}. We study inelastic resonant scattering of a Gaussian wave packet with the parameters close to a zero of the complex scattering coefficient. We demonstrate, both theoretically and experimentally, that such near-zero scattering can result in anomalously-large time delays and frequency shifts of the scattered wave packet. Furthermore, we reveal a close analogy of these anomalous shifts with the spatial and angular Goos-H\"anchen optical beam shifts, which are amplified via quantum weak measurements. However, in contrast to other beam-shift and weak-measurement systems, we deal with a one-dimensional scalar wave without any intrinsic degrees of freedom. It is the non-Hermitian nature of the system that produces its rich and non-trivial behaviour. Our results are generic for any scattering problem, either quantum or classical. As an example, we consider the transmission of an optical pulse through a nano-fiber with a side-coupled toroidal micro-resonator. The zero of the transmission coefficient corresponds to the critical coupling conditions. Experimental measurements of the time delays near the critical-coupling parameters verify our weak-measurement theory and demonstrate amplification of the time delay from the typical inverse resonator linewidth scale to the pulse duration scale., Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures

We investigate the possibility of the identification of TeV physics models including WIMP dark matter at the International Linear Collider. Many TeV physics models contain a WIMP dark matter (chi^0) and charged new particle (chi^{pm}) which interacts with the WIMP dark matter via the vertex chi^{pm} chi^0 W^{mp}. Through Monte Carlo simulations, we study the process, e^+e^- to chi^+ chi^- to chi^0 chi^0 W^+ W^-, because the signal contains the fruitful information of the model. Identification of beyond-standard-models including WIMP dark matter is studied in four particle final state with a W boson pair and a WIMP pair at the International Linear Collider. Models with different spin structures give distinguishable production angle distributions. After the mass determination in each model, the production angle is reconstructed using the four momentum of W bosons with a back-to-back constraint. Three models of Inert Higgs, Supersymmetry and Little Higgs are considered.
