Abstract

The linear magnetoelectric effect was measured in 500 nm Cr2O3 films grown by rf sputtering on Al2O3 substrates between top and bottom thin film Pt electrodes. Magnetoelectric susceptibility was measured directly by applying an AC electric field and measuring the induced AC magnetic moment using superconducting quantum interference device magnetometry. A linear dependence of the induced AC magnetic moment on the AC electric field amplitude was found. The temperature dependence of the magnetoelectric susceptibility agreed qualitatively and quantitatively with prior measurements of bulk single crystals, but the characteristic temperatures of the film were lower than those of single crystals. It was also possible to reverse the sign of the magnetoelectric susceptibility by reversing the sign of the magnetic field applied during cooling through the N\'eel temperature. A competition between total magnetoelectric and Zeeman energies is proposed to explain the difference between film and bulk Cr2O3 regarding the cooling field dependence of the magnetoelectric effect., Comment: accepted at Physical Review B

Abstract

NV centers in diamond has been considered as an important building block for the realization of quantum information processing such as quantum simulation, and quantum metrology. Importantly, NV centers suffer from decoherence, which is an obstacle for more practical applications. There are many ways to suppress decoherence, such as the quantum Zeno effect, dynamical decoupling. However, the efficiency of these protocols strongly depends on the noise properties. So it is essential to understand how the nitrogen concentration affects decoherence, which will let us determine a strategy to improve the coherence time. Here, we report experimental and theoretical investigation of Hahn echo decay curves for NV centers in several diamond samples with different spin concentrations (the sum of NV and P1 concentration). Our experimental results show that an exponential decay curve is observed for a high nitrogen concentration and a non-exponential decay curve is observed for a low nitrogen concentration. Our analysis also shows that the correlation time and amplitude of the dipole interaction from the environmental spin bath have a linear dependence on the spin concentration., The 2nd International Forum on Quantum Metrology and Sensing (IFQMS)

Abstract

Ustekinumab, a monoclonal antibody to the p40 subunit of interleukin-12 and interleukin-23, was evaluated as an intravenous induction therapy in two populations with moderately to severely active Crohn's disease. Ustekinumab was also evaluated as subcutaneous maintenance therapy.We randomly assigned patients to receive a single intravenous dose of ustekinumab (either 130 mg or approximately 6 mg per kilogram of body weight) or placebo in two induction trials. The UNITI-1 trial included 741 patients who met the criteria for primary or secondary nonresponse to tumor necrosis factor (TNF) antagonists or had unacceptable side effects. The UNITI-2 trial included 628 patients in whom conventional therapy failed or unacceptable side effects occurred. Patients who completed these induction trials then participated in IM-UNITI, in which the 397 patients who had a response to ustekinumab were randomly assigned to receive subcutaneous maintenance injections of 90 mg of ustekinumab (either every 8 weeks or every 12 weeks) or placebo. The primary end point for the induction trials was a clinical response at week 6 (defined as a decrease from baseline in the Crohn's Disease Activity Index [CDAI] score of ≥100 points or a CDAI score150). The primary end point for the maintenance trial was remission at week 44 (CDAI score150).The rates of response at week 6 among patients receiving intravenous ustekinumab at a dose of either 130 mg or approximately 6 mg per kilogram were significantly higher than the rates among patients receiving placebo (in UNITI-1, 34.3%, 33.7%, and 21.5%, respectively, with P≤0.003 for both comparisons with placebo; in UNITI-2, 51.7%, 55.5%, and 28.7%, respectively, with P0.001 for both doses). In the groups receiving maintenance doses of ustekinumab every 8 weeks or every 12 weeks, 53.1% and 48.8%, respectively, were in remission at week 44, as compared with 35.9% of those receiving placebo (P=0.005 and P=0.04, respectively). Within each trial, adverse-event rates were similar among treatment groups.Among patients with moderately to severely active Crohn's disease, those receiving intravenous ustekinumab had a significantly higher rate of response than did those receiving placebo. Subcutaneous ustekinumab maintained remission in patients who had a clinical response to induction therapy. Abstract

The hydrolysis of Pu(VI) is investigated under Ar atmosphere in the pH range between 4.5 and 9.0 at 22°C in 0.1 M NaC104 solution in contact with an initial solid phase, PuO2CO3(s). Under the given conditions, PuO2CO3(s) is changed to PuO2(OH)2(s). The estimated equilibrium partial pressure for the transformation: PuO2CO3(s) + H2O(1) ⇌ puo2(oh)2(s) + CO2(g) can reach PCO2 ~ 10 3.6atm. In contrast to earlier investigations in oversaturated solution, no polynuclear species formation is observed. Two mononuclear complexes, puo2OH+in near neutral and PuO2(OH)2(aq) in weak alkaline solution, are found to be the dominating hydrolysis species of Pu(VI). The stability constants of the two species, evaluated from UV/VIS spectroscopic measurements, are found to be: log β11= 8.10±0.15 and log βl2= 14.25±0.18, respectively. The first equilibrium constant is in good agreement with the corresponding value for the formation of UO2OH+, log β11= 8.4±0.3, indicating a close similarity in hydrolysis between the two actinide ions. © R.
