Over the last few decades, the authenticity and confidence of scientific work from around the world has been systematically corrupted by predatory journals and their affiliated publication houses. These journals predominantly prey on both aspiring and established academics and researchers from around the world, but primarily on individuals from developing countries, by aggressively soliciting manuscripts for a nominal publication fee without providing a robust editorial service or peer review system and ultimately promising fast track publication in a few days to weeks. Such journals may also diminish the opportunity for authors in developing countries from getting their original work published in legitimate journals. A majority of the work published in these pseudo journals aside from being incorrect and mundane, provide no advancement to science. But more importantly, the negative impact of these journals can have direct implications on patient health care and research.

The goal of this article is to make connections between anthropological methods and performance based on data collected in research about salsa dancing in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The text describes changes in the approach to salsa and focuses on two different dance styles practiced in two ballroom dance schools. The literature on salsa tends to favor its sound structure, leaving aside other sensory stimuli. In contrast, this article presents an ethnographic approach to salsa dancing based on notions of performance. Thus, the purpose is to contribute to dance research from an anthropological perspective. RÉSUMÉ L’article suggère des liens entre la méthode anthropologique et la performance à partir de données recueillies dans une recherche sur la salsa à Rio de Janeiro. Le texte décrit les changements dans l’approche de la salsa et se concentre sur deux types de danse spécifiques et distincts pratiqués dans deux centres de danse de salon. Les études sur la salsa mettent généralement en évidence leur structure sonore, en laissant de côté les autres impulsions sensorielles. Ce texte suggère, en revanche, une approche ethnographique de la danse salsa liée aux notions de performance. Par conséquent, l’article se donne comme objectif de apporter des contributions à la recherche sur la danse dans une perspective anthropologique. RESUMO O artigo propõe articulações entre método antropológico e performance a partir de dados coletados em uma investigação sobre a dança de salsa na cidade do Rio de Janeiro. O texto narra mudanças na abordagem da salsa, centrando-se em dois modos específicos e distintos praticados em duas academias de dança de salão. A literatura sobre salsa costuma privilegiar sua estrutura sonora, deixando de lado outros estímulos sensoriais. Em contraste, no presente texto se realiza uma abordagem etnográfica da dança de salsa atrelada a noções de performance. Assim, procura-se trazer contribuições para a pesquisa em dança a partir de uma perspectiva antropológica.

Ijtihād is an important way to discover the law over new issues. The need for ijtihād in the present becomes even more important as the problem develops with the development of science and technology. Scholars (ulama) are urgently needed to discover the law over these new problems by using the correct method of ijtihād, by using texts without putting aside the reality of life and the intentions (maqāshid) behind those texts. This research aims to describe the urgency of maqāshid sharia in ijtihād. The study begins by explaining the meaning of ijtihād as well as maqashid sharia, and finally discovering the use of maqāshid sharia on the contemporary fatwas. The approach used in this research is descriptive-qualitative approach, because this study is intended to reveal and describe the meaning of ijtihād as well as maqāshid sharia, and the use of maqāshid sharia on those fatwas. By using research methods outlined above, it can be concluded that the maqāshid sharia have an important role in ijtihād. Therefore, the contemporary scholars relay on the maqashid sharia in their fatwas; in worship, transactions, family jurisprudence, modern medicine and others. This paper aims to recall Keynes’s ideas on money. In this sense, the paper dedicates itself only to recall Keynes’s thoughts on this elements money, putting aside several debates on the topic Keynes undertook with a number of other authors. The paper’s contributions rests in offering, in a rather short length a debate previously done only in book length documents; moreover, this synthesis will be done in Portuguese, something not yet undertaken. Although this contribution might be seen as a very humble one, we argument it is not the case, as to apprehend the course of Keynes’s ideas, it will be analyzed his main economic works, namely the 1923 Tract on Monetary Reform, 1930 Treatise on Money, and 1936 The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, which is not a small effort per se. The background to the discussion will be Keynes' departure from neoclassical theory throughout these works. Furthermore, the article briefly debates how Keynes has apprehended the institutional remarks of the Monetary Authority.

This study examines the risk-adjusted performance of actively managed mutual funds versus passively managed mutual funds between 1991 and 2019 and finds that there is no statistically significant difference in performance between the two types of funds when the passively managed funds are compared to competitively priced actively managed funds. The practical implication of this study is that, setting tax considerations aside, as long as investors are cost-conscious in their fund selection process, investing in passively managed funds does not meaningfully improve investor outcomes.

Teachers' duty is to teach. But in honesty, teachers do many things. Aside from relaying the information that their students need to learn, they are also responsible for handling each student with different characteristics and behaviors. Thus, it is a problem if teachers do not know how to facilitate them as well as if they do not have enough understanding of educational psychology. Knowing and understanding students' cause of different behaviors is one way for teachers to facilitate their students appropriately and can teach effectively. This article then discusses salient factors that lead student to behave in such ways. It also gives emphasis on how a teacher will become effective in teaching if she first learn the root of students' behavior.

In guideline development the evidence is more and more coming exclusively from randomized-controlled trials (RCTs), while all other evidential levels are too easily brushed aside. This adopted creed is based on the radical ideas of Archibald Cochrane. Randomize until it hurts—which should presumably be read as a stimulus to perform better research—was the initial suggestion of Cochrane. This commentary is based on quotes from Cochrane’s original work. Cochrane’s statements were figured out in a long-gone era in which medical and social inequality prevailed. Adhering to the orthodoxy nowadays hurts both clinicians and patients. I doubt that this was ever Cochrane’s intention. In my opinion, the most important part of guideline development should be making inferences of the total medical content (all available evidence including expert opinion); a process that can only be done by subject experts. Methodological assessment, which is undoubtedly the most essential point in the planning of future studies, should come only second place in guideline development and should be used for grading of the evidential level, not for the decision to reject studies completely. Otherwise, far too much relevant evidence is ignored.

This study aims to explain how kerapan sapi culture can describe corporate governance from the point of view of stewardship theory. Stewardship theory states that managers will carry out their duties and responsibilities in the interests of the organization and shareholders. In this theory, the manager will put aside his personal interests. Kerapan sapi is a Madurese culture that competes for the running speed of a pair of cows using pangonong and kaleles as a place for the tokang tongko' to stand to control the cows. Tokang tongko' is a party that has an important role in creating an effective and efficient running speed of Sapi Kerap in order to become a winner, just like a company manager who is the authorized party to manage the company effectively and efficiently in order to be able to compete with competitors. Tokang tongko' is assumed to have a trustworthy, honest, and responsible nature for the trust that has been given by the owner of the cow, which is often in accordance with the theory of stewardship. Tokang tongko' will take actions in accordance with the interests of sapi kerap owners, like a manager who carries out his duties and responsibilities in the interests of shareholders.

The devastating explosion in Beirut’s port on August 4, 2020 will forever be engraved in the memory of the Lebanese people. Within moments, a city with over 5,000 years of history was in ruins. Aside from the terrible casualties, the blast impacted one of the largest concentrations of heritage buildings in the city, dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. For this reason Beirut Heritage Initiative (BHI) was established in an attempt to help restore the city’s built heritage and to preserve both the urban and the social fabric of the damaged neighborhoods. BHI’s first mission was focused on emergency works such as rapid sheltering and consolidation of damaged buildings to prevent further damage due to the winter weather. After this emergency phase, BHI has engaged in partial reconstructions to enable vulnerable inhabitants to return to their homes, and a third phase has focused on full restoration projects for highly damaged buildings.

El estilo de pintura renacentista refleja todo tipo de principios, enfoques y comprensión del diseño plástico como un carácter estándar de las características históricas, políticas, religiosas, culturales y económicas de esa época. Al deshacerse de un tipo de perspectiva estricta y puramente centrada en la iglesia, los artistas del Renacimiento prácticamente comienzan a mirar la naturaleza, la ciencia, la literatura, la filosofía y, obviamente, la anatomía humana en un conjunto de mentes diferente. Una descripción razonable, equilibrada, científica y lógica de la vida humana lleva a los pintores a centrarse más en las partes del cuerpo humano. Aparte de los rostros de las figuras, las manos se convierten en partes esenciales del cuerpo para sujetar un espejo al universo interior de las figuras. Se incluyeron dentro del programa iconográfico tal que reflejaban las emociones y contemplaciones de la figura, y la conexión entre figuras y objetos. En este estudio, un examen a través de varias pinturas renacentistas arrojará luz sobre cómo los pintores como Giotto, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Francesca y más utilizaron la representación de las manos como un aparato y como un lenguaje de sus propósitos creativos. Así, se manifestará una iconografía de manos en la pintura renacentista. Renaissance style of painting reflects all types of plastic design principles, approaches and understanding as a standard character of historical, political, religious, cultural, and economic features of that era. Disposing of unadulterated strict and church focused kind of perspective, Renaissance artists practically start to look on nature, science, literature, philosophy, and obviously human anatomy in a different set of minds. Reasonable, balanced, scientific and logical portrayal of human life leads painters to focus closer on pieces of the human body. Aside from the faces of the figures, hands become essential body parts to hold a mirror to the interior universe of the figures. They were included within the iconographic program such mirrored the emotions and contemplations of the figure, and the connection among figures and objects. In this study, an examination through various Renaissance paintings will shed light on how the painters like Giotto, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Francesca, and more utilized the portrayal of hands as an apparatus and as a language of their creative purposes. Thusly, an iconography of hands in Renaissance painting will be manifested.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted higher education globally. Teaching staff have pivoted to online learning and employed a range of strategies to facilitate student success. Aside from offering a testing ground for innovative teaching strategies, the pandemic has also provided an opportunity to better understand the pre-existing conditions that enable higher education systems to be resilient-that is, to respond and adapt to disturbances in ways that retain the functions and structures essential for student success. This article presents a case study covering two transdisciplinary undergraduate courses at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia. The results highlight the importance of information flows, feedbacks, self-organisation, leadership, openness, trust, equity, diversity, reserves, social learning and nestedness. These results show that resilience frameworks developed by previous scholars are relevant to university teaching systems and offer guidance on which system features require protection and strengthening to enable effective responses to future disturbances. © The Author/s 2021.

Online news blogs and websites are becoming influential to any society as they accumulate the world in one place. Aside from that, online news blogs and websites have efficient strategies in grabbing readers’ attention by the headlines, that being so to recognize the sentiment orientation or polarity of the news headlines for avoiding misinterpretation against any fact. In this study, we have examined 3383 news headlines created by five different global newspapers. In the interest of distinguishing the sentiment polarity (or sentiment orientation) of news headlines, we have trained our model by seven machine learning and two deep learning algorithms. Finally, their performance was compared. Among them, Bernoulli naïve Bayes and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) achieved higher accuracy than other machine learning and deep learning algorithms, respectively. Such a study will help the audience in determining their impression against or for any leader or governance; and will provide assistance to recognize the most indifferent newspaper or news blogs.

Ride-sourcing services play an increasingly important role in meeting mobility needs in many metropolitan areas. Yet, aside from delivering passengers from their origins to destinations, ride-sourcing vehicles generate a significant number of vacant trips from the end of one customer delivery trip to the start of the next. These vacant trips create additional traffic demand and may worsen traffic conditions in urban networks. Capturing the congestion effect of these vacant trips poses a great challenge to the modeling practice of transportation planning agencies. With ride-sourcing services, vehicular trips are the outcome of the interactions between service providers and passengers, a missing ingredient in the current traffic assignment methodology. In this paper, we enhance the methodology by explicitly modeling those vacant trips, which include cruising for customers and deadheading for picking up them. Because of the similarity between taxi and ride-sourcing services, we first extend previous taxi network models to construct a base model, which assumes intranode matching between customers and idle ride-sourcing vehicles and thus, only considers cruising vacant trips. Considering spatial matching among multiple zones commonly practiced by ride-sourcing platforms, we further enhance the base model by encapsulating internode matching and considering both the cruising and deadheading vacant trips. A large set of empirical data from Didi Chuxing is applied to validate the proposed enhancement for internode matching. The extended model describes the equilibrium state that results from the interactions between background regular traffic and occupied, idle, and deadheading ride-sourcing vehicles. A solution algorithm is further proposed to solve the enhanced model effectively. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the model and solution algorithm. Although this study focuses on ride-sourcing services, the proposed modeling framework can be adapted to model other types of shared use mobility services.

The use of Space has drastically evolved these last ten years. Tomorrow will see easier and cheaper access to Space, satellite servicing, in-orbit manufacturing, human private spaceflights to ever increasing number of Orbital Stations, road to the Moon, Asteroids, Mars … It seems fundamental to make sure we can rely on robust, reliable, frequent and affordable access to and from LEO with both automatic systems and human missions; such systems are the bricks with which all the future operations in Space will be built. Independent human access to space from Europe for our astronauts is a key to any future in Space. It has been studied in depth since the 80's with Hermes Spaceplane, then through numerous studies, pre-development activities, and demonstrations such as ARD, X38-CRV or IXV, which now allow Europe to reconsider such an endeavor with a much higher confidence. We have worked during one year on every aspect of a European Human spaceflight system aimed at being launched from Guiana Space Center. It would be a logical addition to new orbital infrastructures in LEO which, following the ISS retirement, are already under deployment by governments and commercial entities in the US, Russia, China, India. We found out that Europe could play a very specific role, deploying a “universal” vehicle capable to visit any future LEO architecture; following its historical tradition, Europe would be in a position to cooperate potentially with everyone in LEO! We traded the various types of potential vehicles dealing with the recovery techniques for both nominal and abort cases. The launch with Ariane 6 has been looked at in detail and a particular effort has been devoted to the adaptation of the Guiana Space Center. A cautious examination of the required technologies shows that European industry is fully ready, and that most of these technologies are available. In particular, we have shown the readiness of Human-Rating systems, based on the ATV, Orion ESM and ISS pressurized modules. Even if the capability requires a significant budget, the question is to know if Europe can be left aside in the future? Such a program would release a very strong positive sign for the young generations cradled with the feats of our astronauts; it would give motivating STEM objectives to the next generation of students. As a major space power it is clearly strategic for Europe to develop independent human access to LEO in the current multipolar world.

Este artículo inspecciona primeramente la ficcionalización del crimen, un interés compartido entre los escritores argentinos Jorge Luis Borges y Ernesto Sabato, pero postula en seguida que la de Borges alimentó decisivamente el referente contra el cual se alzó la ficción de Sabato. Una explicación de la poética de Sabato debe buscarse no sólo en los textos mismos, sino afuera de ellos: la distancia social que separa a Sabato de Borges. El artículo concluye señalando los intereses mutuos, pero resalta sobre todo los desacuerdos en torno a la ficcionalización del crimen.

A través de una revisión bibliográfica, este artículo describe cómo la corriente positivista por un lado y, el positivismo contable por otro, se fueron posicionando a nivel mundial y, la manera en que Watts y Zimmerman la definieron; en otras palabras, se trató de entender el devenir de esta corriente epistemológica enfocado en un punto de vista contable. La revisión de la literatura fue aplicada a investigaciones relacionadas con el área de la contabilidad, con el fin de ir definiendo el papel que comenzó a tener esta ciencia desde el punto de vista epistemológico. Los resultados muestran que la temática planteada en los actuales momentos sigue siendo la más utilizada por los investigadores en todo el mundo, a pesar de que ya existen otras corrientes epistemológicas en auge. Los aspectos más relevantes en los estudios realizados fueron la empatía con esta corriente a nivel global. Como reflexión final, y luego de esta discusión a lo largo del presente estudio, se puede establecer que, el positivismo visto en el ámbito contable, hace referencia a la observación de los hechos económicos de una manera objetiva, en dónde la contabilidad es visualizada como es, admitiendo conocimientos con base en la experiencia, dejando de lado cualquier concepción idealista y absolutista.

PT Asuransi Jiwasraya has been facing a crisis since 2020, which later probably demand them to reconstruct their insurance policy. Nothing is decided aside from the reconstruction idea. This is a hard task to deal with as there is a high risk to be borne along. In the worst case, bankruptcy awaits. As technology has taken over most industries, including insurance, it is only normal for the company to take advantage of the applied technology. However, it is still unknown whether the database used could help fulfill the mission. Considering loads of data might be higher by year, it will be more efficient to use the integrated database to transfer the whole data into a new-adapted database rather than creating a new one and manually adapt then add the data. This could be done by doing a Bottom-up approach that occurs in two big steps. This is the safest choice now which is handy and possible.

In The question concerning technology, Heidegger explores actuality in terms of danger. In chapter 3.6 ‘Who has forgotten Being?’ of his We have never been modern, Latour typically ridicules Heidegger and rejects no less than his whole thinking path. I contend that this criticism stems from an inadequate interpretation of Heidegger. By reading the latter in a modern register, Latour turns Heidegger into a modern thinker. Leaving aside the matter of modern elements in Heidegger’s thoughts, these are certainly not the elements that Latour brings forth. Indeed, to understand the danger that hides in actuality, if any, we should turn to Heidegger and read Latour from there.

Number talks are short mathematical discussions offering sensemaking opportunities for students. Aside from bolstering students’ mathematical learning, this instructional routine may also support preservice teachers (PSTs) in investigating how to facilitate discussion-focused instruction. In this study, PSTs engage in a learning cycle to explore, plan and rehearse two separate number talks during human-in-the-loop simulations, and then reflect on these experiences. During the first simulation, PSTs focus on understanding the routine’s components while positioning avatar-students as sensemakers as they elicit their participation. In the second simulation, PSTs build their instructional skills as they record representations of students’ mathematical thinking, probe students’ thinking in order to make mathematics visible, as well as notice missed opportunities to support students’ mathematical reasoning during reflections of their experiences. Implications of this study suggest that simulations, when embedded within a cycle of enactment and reflection, support PSTs in developing professional noticing skills.

Aside from metaphor being an important language device reflecting human cognition, it also provides a window into the understanding of culture (Kövecsec 2019). Language is a function of culture because it is a form of the verbal and nonverbal systems by which a group member can communicate with another member. Language connects people of the same cultural identity because it functions as a common bond between people who have the same linguistic heritage. As argued in Verhagen (2008), values of one’s understanding of the world he lives in may in turn be influenced by the conceptual metaphors he unconsciously holds to visualize his world. Verhagen has provided a valuable standpoint, yet it is western-centered and European-oriented. Through metaphors identified in Chinese in proverbs, food, marriage, and time expressions, this paper intends to address the following questions: Does conceptual metaphors reflect any specific Chinese mode of thinking? Does such conceptualization give a taste of Chinese culture? What kind(s) of theoretical and pragmatic implications can be derived from our line of investigation? It is thus hoped that this paper may provide empirical evidence with reference to mappings between thought and language, which in turn, may serve as a way to explore culture.

Autonomy, which gives individuals the right to make informed decisions about their medical treatment, is a central principle in Western bioethics. However, we often encounter patients for whom a family member seems to dominate medical decision-making, to the extent that clinicians become concerned that the patient is subject to excessive pressure or even coercion. In this article, we describe one such case and how we assess a decision-making process that involves family influence. This entails acknowledging that many individuals weigh their family members’ preferences and/or well-being heavily in making medical decisions, and family norms for decision-making differ. A family member who tells their loved one “You can't give up now” is typically not ursurping the patient's liberty to make a different decision. However, there are some family influences which may be autonomy-limiting, including credible threats, or in situations of abuse. Aside from these scenarios, our role is not to alter a couple's long-standing dynamics and decision-making processes. However, for the patient who wants to assert herself, we can set the stage in a family meeting and amplify her voice. We must also attend to the emotional level of family members’ statements. “I won't let you give up” might be more a statement of grief rather than a true reflection of their values or intent. Supporting the family member's coping may help to bring together what initially seem to be divergent goals. Exploring these decision-making dynamics is key to providing good palliative care.

Creating a new capital city is a critical decision, yet it has happened across the globe and across the years. Due to various reasons, capital cities were created and transformed their countries and affected their overall worldwide presence. This paper derives a comparison between the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana and the new Egyptian Administrative Capital that is currently under construction. This review article showed that despite the differences, similarities can be pointed out in relation to political, social, and economic aspects. The results figured out that both capitals are major initiatives for nation-building as well as regional and economic development. The authors conclude from the similarities between the two capital cities’ approaches that Egypt’s new administrative capital can follow the well-off steps of Astana aside from the contextual differences and challenges that should not be underestimated. The authors also derive a set of elements that create a significant capital city.

Aside from the convenience, it will benefit both the school and the parent's side by allowing them to monitor and keep track of the student's school activities with a single touch. It is applicable to the employee module. It will reveal their time in and out by tapping the RFID. This will automatically record their attendance and make it easy to compute their income based on the sort of work they have, whether full-time or part-time. If they work full-time, their salary will be determined per day; if they only work part-time, their salary will be computed per hour. If students are coming to Saint John Academy of Visual and Performing Arts, the first thing they must do is enroll and fill out a registration form. Employees must also register if they do not currently have RFID, and administrators will give them with one. They will also be held accountable if a student or employee has an issue with their accounts. Admin may also track their actual time in and out.

A textbook is crucial in teaching-learning process at the university level. However, many textbooks in universities are lack in practice and too theoretical. This can be an obstacle for non-English department students. It will be hard for them to speak in English if the existing textbooks only concern in grammatical issues and put aside the communicative side (Speaking). This study aims to develop a practical and effective English textbook that prioritize the communicative side i.e., the spoken English for non-English department students. The research method used in this research is the Research & Development (R&D) by using the ADDIE development model in which the non-English Department students of STKIP Al Maksum Langkat as its research subject. The research sample was taken randomly (Random Sampling) based on the research needs. From the data taken, it was found that: 1) the developed-English textbook is declared very valid (92.9%) by 6 expert validators and could be used but needed minor revisions, 2) textbooks had met the criteria of practicality and effectiveness in improving the English speaking skill of non-English department students.

In this paper, I’ll survey a number of closure principles of epistemic justification and find them all wanting. However, it’ll be my contention that there’s a novel closure principle of epistemic justification that has the virtues of its close cousin closure principles, without their vices. This closure principle of epistemic justification can be happily thought of as a multi-premise closure principle and it cannot be used in Cartesian skeptical arguments that employ a closure principle of epistemic justification. In this way, then, it represents marked improvement over other contemporary closure principles of epistemic justification that require both sacrificing multi-premise closure and forcing anti-Cartesian skeptics who reject the closure principle employed in certain Cartesian skeptical arguments to cast aside justification closure.

Introducción El presente estudio se centra en la producción de un cortometraje animado sobre el proceso de producción de la quinua. Hasta ahora, todos los esfuerzos se han dedicado a posicionar la quinua como un superalimento con gran potencial nutricional, sin embargo, se ha dejado a un lado su valor cultural e histórico. Objetivo Por lo cual, el objetivo principal del cortometraje es la revalorización de la quinua como grano ancestral, que pretende motivar su cultivo y consumo local desde este enfoque. Metodología En base a la metodología de Bruce Archer, que tiene tres fases; analítica, creativa, y ejecutiva, se inició recolectando información acerca del origen y producción de la quinua, mediante fichas de observación, entrevistas a expertos, productores de quinua y expertos en otras áreas. A partir de esta investigación, se desarrolló la historia “Quinua del viento”. Resultados La última fase se desarrolló, siguiendo las etapas típicas de la producción del cortometraje: pre-producción, producción, y pos-producción. Así, de la historia, se elaboró el guion y el storyboard, los cuales sirvieron como guía visual en la siguiente etapa. La segunda fase, se utilizó la técnica del Stop Motion. En esta etapa se diseñaron los personajes y ambientes, inspirados en indígenas y escenarios de la provincia de Chimborazo. Finalmente, se utilizó el Software de animación 2D “Adobe Premiere Pro” para la edición y retoque del cortometraje. Adicional a esto, se desarrolló la musicalización, el ritmo seleccionado fue el “Albazo”, por ser un género musical de la sierra ecuatoriana.

On the first day of April 1649, on the predominantly rural manor of Walton, Surrey, the sight of people preparing land for the plow was unremarkable. What did raise eyebrows, however, was the sight of such busyness on a Sunday, the Sabbath, and on no less remarkable ground than George Hill, with its “very barren,” sandy soil. When questioned, Gerrard Winstanley reframed this performative break with religious, social, and agricultural norms as he did in his soon to be published manifesto, The True Levellers’ Standard Advanced. Even some historians of the seventeenth century have questioned the significance of this small, nonviolent agrarian group in the intensely “charged political atmosphere of the 1640s,” but as a collective whose theatrical social performances raised them from obscurity to national visibility, Diggers are in some ways the epitome of this era.

The “no means no” model has been applied in Germany since November 10, 2016. Its introduction has considerably extended the scope of criminalized forms of sexual interaction. This Article examines the criminal policy discourse that gave rise to it and the question of whether the new provisions have led to the changes in the practices of criminal prosecution proclaimed in advance. The results will be critically assessed. The new legislation relating to sexual offenses was also shaped on the initiative of groups perceiving themselves as emancipatory, and in the understanding of these groups, the “no means no” provision acts as “progressive” criminalization. Yet, aside from the fact that the associated expectations have hardly been met as of yet, this movement would have to resolve an essential question: Is penal law compatible with a “progressive” social policy they claim to stand for at all, and if so, what conditions does it have to meet?

The SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic has emerged as one of the greatest problems of the 21st century worldwide. Efforts to fight this pandemic require a global co-operation and a multidisciplinary approach. An application of information and communication technologies (ICT) to a great degree contributes to fighting the pandemic as these technologies are one of the key services that assist patients, researchers, health institutions and other interested parties in different activities in an effort to fight the pandemic and its consequences. The present paper presents the features of certain mobile applications (apps) that are being used for different purposes such as: tracking patients, COVID-19-related warnings, keeping tracks of statistical data, organising life and business, etc. Aside from presenting the features of a certain number of applications, a review of technologies used for the development of these applications will also be presented. Furthermore, the paper addresses certain challenges that come along with the mobile technologies applications and offers suggestions for future research. © 2021. The global pandemic COVID-19 has hit the world tremendously and shifted all normal daily routines to a new way of living. Education and knowledge sharing has now been held virtually to prevent the spread of this life-threatening virus. Hence, students nowadays have to cope with so many changes in the execution of their courses and assignments. Aside from this challenge, lectures now have to be conducted strictly online and the lecturers can no longer physically be with them to teach face-to-face as per previous practice. Therefore, this study aims to explain the motivational conditions of students when using various media in ODL. The survey has been distributed to 174 numbers of students from one of the Higher Learning Institution in East Peninsular Malaysia. The result showed that even students who are in worry, restless and wanted everything to be ended immediately, still try their best to perform and to gain knowledge through any medium that they can to perform their best.

Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang inovasi yang salah satunya adalah inovasi kebudayaan. Kebudayaan yang dikaji merupakan kebudayaan yang terbentuk dari hasil budidaya atau kreativitas manusia yang disebut dengan seni. Seni yang dimaksud adalah seni tari. Fokus pada penelitian ini adalah membahas terkait bagaimana refleksi hubungan sosial atas semboyan “Tong Ngin Fan Ngin Jit Jong” pada Tari Chit Ngiat Pan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis interpretatif. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik obesrvasi, wawancara informan yang ditentukan dengan teknik sampling purposive, dan dokumentasi. Teori yang digunakan dalam menganalisis penelitian adalah teori Interaksionisme Simbolik oleh Herbert Blumer dengan tiga hal prinsip utama yaitu meaning, language dan tought. Peneliti menggunakan simbol tari sebagai unit analisis yakni gerak, tata busana, dan tata rias. Pemaknaan (meaning) pada Tari Chit Ngiat Pan menunjukkan adanya penyesuaian dengan makna solidaritas yakni “Tong Ngin Fan Ngin Jit Jong”yang digali lewat simbol tari. Semboyan tersebut merupakan kunci dari penciptaan Tari Chit Ngiat Pan selain dari mengangkat kebudayaan Etnis Tionghoa. Bahasa (language) di peroleh sebagai hasil interaksi dari sesama penari bahwa Tari Chit Ngiat Pan diciptakan berawal dari tujuan kompetisi. Pikiran (tought) adalah kompetisi yang di ikuti adalah suatu tujuan untuk memperoleh kemenangan sehingga dapat melangkah ke tahap internasional. Adanya pemanfataan semboyan “Tong Ngin Fan Ngin Jit Jong”melahirkan akulturasi yang menunjukkan adanya solidaritas antar Etnis Melayu Dan Etnis Tionghoa di Bangka Belitung yang ditunjukkan kembali melalui seni tari.

El mundo actual tiene un carácter marcadamente dinámico, por lo que el Sistema Educativo Mexicano (SEM) en su conjunto, pero particularmente las escuelas formadoras de docentes y las prácticas de enseñanza en el aula, deben transformarse para hacer frente a esa realidad. Se reconoce que el único agente indefectible que puede generar ese cambio es el docente que abrace una pedagogía crítica y que sea conocedor de la ciencia, la pedagogía y la filosofía para que ejerza una práctica reflexiva. El presente trabajo presenta una revisión teórico conceptual de la necesidad de docentes críticos transformadores en la realidad mexicana, empleando referentes como Freire y analizando también algunos elementos de la Nueva Escuela Mexicana (NEM). Un docente crítico y transformador se forja en las escuelas normales, desarrollando y potenciando lo que un profesor que asuma ese rol debe tener. Esas cualidades no se logran desde la simple experiencia, es necesario que se allegue de referentes de orden filosófico que le permitan, primero, reflexionar sobre el impacto de buenas prácticas de enseñanza, luego, tomar acción como agente de cambio. Además, debe abonar a la construcción de una filosofía emergente que le ayude a resolver problemas reales, como el generado por la COVID-19, donde se observó que la autoridad educativa dejó de lado esta reflexión filosófica y partió de concepciones rígidas, cerradas y tradicionalistas de currículo.

This study aims to describe the development of Islamic behavior of students through the practice of worship at SMAN Bandung. Based on observations and interviews of researchers to several principals of SMAN schools in Bandung who have athlete students, found that not all students who profess to be Muslim to perform worship well during sports practice while in school, only some students who want to perform worship in school, such as performing sunnah prayers or obligatory prayers in school mosques , on the grounds that his clothes are dirty because of sweat, responsibility is training and clashing with training time. Whereas if praying his clothes must be clean and holy. Sometimes, even many students have not prayed if they are not ordered and many others lack. Not infrequently students who when at home and at school show good Islamic behavior, but when outside the house and outside the school shows bad behavior seen in terms of Islam, such as smoking, hanging out on the side of the road, and excessive dating. This study uses qualitative approach with descriptive method. Data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis techniques use data analysis techniques consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study are: 1) Islamic behavior development program in high school in Bandung, namely congregational prayers before the start and at the end of teaching and learning activities, memorizing Asmaul Husna, reading the Quran 15 minutes before the first hour. 1) learning begins, praying dhuha congregation, praying midday congregation, infaq or setting aside some pocket money for alms. 2) The process of fostering islamic keisk behavior of students through religious practice activities in SMAN throughout Bandung needs to be held, religious lectures, guidance and supervision. 3) The behavior of students after receiving guidance through the practice of worship in SMAN throughout The City of Bandung is quite good. Students can be responsible and disciplined in performing worship. Students can also work together and socialize well.

Este artículo explora cómo se ha venido instalando y posicionando la lógica de antidiscriminación racial como única categoría en los discursos y prácticas etnoeducativas, dejando al margen otros ámbitos de exclusión y segregación asociados a la clase, el territorio y el género, entre otros. A través del análisis de los currículos críticos, interculturales e interseccionales se proponen otras posibilidades para el abordaje y comprensión de las diferentes variables que se imbrican en los sistemas complejos de dominación, opresión y exclusión. De esta manera, el estudio propende por la resignificación de las bases teóricas y epistemológicas de la etnoeducación afrocolombiana generando rupturas con el legado colonial clasista, sexista y racializado que impera en la actualidad. El estudio devela las ausencias y tensiones que subyacen a la confrontación de las teorías tradicionales del currículo con las propuestas por currículos críticos e interculturales que construyen escenarios dialógicos a partir de las configuraciones histórico-sociales de sujetos y comunidades.

The role of attractiveness in the arts, an area that inherently deals with esthetics, is one way in which consumer decisions may have economic effects. Focusing on consumer (or audience member) preferences, this paper explores the relationship between audience members’ perceived attractiveness of dancers and their willingness to pay (WTP) for a modern dance performance. One of our contributions is through primary data collected using a series of four video recordings of self-choreographed modern dance solos. Using a dataset of 1,989 observations, we investigate the extent that the audience members’ perceived attractiveness of a dancer is related to their WTP for a modern dance performance using tobit and binomial logit models. The findings reveal evidence of a positive relationship between dancers’ perceived attractiveness and WTP for modern dance performances and an even stronger relationship between audience members’ perceived attractiveness of dancers and their willingness to re-watch or watch more of the performance. Aside from the performing dancer, the audience members’ perceived attractiveness of the other dancer also has a significant relationship with WTP and willingness to watch the performance.

This article examines 19th- and 20th-century Romany grave markers from northern New Jersey. It argues that these exceptional markers served as a way for members of the Romany community to signal their membership in a distinctive ethnic subculture. Since the 19th century, the Romany people, or Gypsies, have found final resting places from their long travels in the cemeteries of northern New Jersey. Unlike many other ethnic groups, the Romany are unseen to all but the most persistent observers. Aside from scattered mentions in newspaper articles of camps, horse trading, fortunetelling, and lavish funerals, they are almost invisible. In the urban cemeteries of northern New Jersey, however, magnificent memorials for “Gypsy” kings and queens provide a glimpse of the rich traditions of this distinctive subculture. Monuments of polished black and red granite ornamented with gilt lettering, etched with photographs, or adorned with enameled portraits proclaim the tenacity and pride of this often-persecuted group. Rather than marking a particular religious ideology or reflecting the position of the Romany people within the society as a whole, these markers reflect the beliefs and accomplishments of a distinctive cultural group and speak to that group’s values, even when those values diverge from those of the larger society.

Academic support services are an important institutional resource that can support student success and retention. However, little research has examined undocumented students’ resource uptake, aside from demonstrating that exclusionary policies and experiences reduce undocumented students’ access to and use of institutional resources. In this article, we use regression analysis to identify what factors may contribute to undocumented students’ use of academic support services. Drawing on a survey of 1,277 undocumented students attending California 4-year public universities, we examine how academic performance, situational barriers, campus exclusion, and campus integration shape the odds that undocumented students will use academic support services. We find that campus integration is associated with increased odds of using academic support services, while campus exclusion is not; academic performance and situational barriers have mixed effects.

Student error analysis is an area of investigation that can shed light on how students learn. It can also serve as a pedagogical tool to increase students’ awareness of the most common types of errors to avoid. Quality of student output, however, isn’t solely determined by the number of errors students make, but also the extent to which students successfully employ certain other discourse-related strategies to improve their compositions. This paper argues that, aside from grammatical concerns, and at least from a discourse point of view, students already possess much of the knowledge they need in order to write better compositions. Both second (L2) and heritage (HL) learners of Spanish typically already possess some advanced writing skills in English, but we have observed that when attempting to write in Spanish, many of these same students will resort to more remedial means of presenting and/or expressing their ideas. In other words, unaware that so many discourse skills are transferable from English to Spanish, students will not necessarily apply the same strategies, or at least to the same degree, as they would if writing a similar essay in English. This paper, therefore, provides ten tips that students can draw on to improve both the presentation and expression of their ideas in compositions. Recommendations are divided into two categories, the first being aspects a student should always keep in mind when approaching any piece of writing, while the second are negative tendencies that are quite common, but which a student should necessarily avoid.

Surveys show that, in the United States, Americans have a less favorable view of Muslims due to various reasons as opposed to American Muslims who conversely favor the American state and population. In line with this fact, this study tries to understand whether the Turkish community living in the US has different views about Americans than American Muslims do. This study makes a comparison because not all ethnic groups in the American Muslim community have the same views about Americans. While analyzing the Turkish community's perceptions, this study also analyzes the views Americans and Muslim Americans have towards each other. The study compares previous surveys with the survey conducted among Turks living in the US and concludes that Muslims generally have the same perceptions regarding Americans. It also reveals that aside from the basic reasons which result in a negative view towards Muslims, being a small community and fragmented are two significant factors that damage the image of Muslims. In addition, it reveals that a lack of knowledge about each other increases negative perceptions. WOS:000667738400007

COVID-19 aside, the year 2020 was characterized by further challenges to the black identity. The gruesome murder of George Floyd and other low moments of racial discrimination triggered a wave of protests across the USA and beyond. The year saw the convictions of the proponents of the Black Lives Matter being tested to the limits. Whereas popular music has constituted a vehicle for conveying the concerns of the movement since its conception, I argue that the events of the year 2020 and the attendant looting and destruction in the guise of protests, have propelled an impetus in African American creatives to speak matter into black lives. Drawing from the texts (2019) and video (2020) of Beyoncé Knowles’s “Brown Skin Girl,” the article discusses artists’ attempt to deploy chromatism in debunking negative connotations associated with “black.” Further, the audio-visual constructs in Pharrell Williams’s “Entrepreneur” (2020) is assessed as a deliberate creation to sustain a positive narrative at a critical moment of African American history.

Background With epidemics emerging at a hastened pace, a phenomenological study allows researchers to cast aside their perceptions to understand nurses’ lived experiences, and from there to discover previously unavailable insights at the epicentre of a pandemic. Aims To understand volunteer nurses’ lived experiences in Wuhan. Methods A descriptive phenomenological study with a purposive sampling strategy was used to describe volunteer nurses’ experiences in Wuhan. Interviews continued until data saturation. Ten semi-structured interviews of 30 to 60 minutes duration were conducted from 27 to 30 March 2020. The narrative data were audiotaped, transcribed and analysed using Colaizzi’s method. Results Four themes emerged: mission and challenges denoted the participants’ realisation of the grim challenges ahead; challenges called for actions that described the concerted actions through partnerships and familial bonds; caring acts from all around revealed an external support system; and actions that made a difference portrayed the interplay of actions with feelings, thoughts and further actions to accomplish the mission. Conclusions This phenomenological study showed the interplay of nurses’ intentions and actions, and ‘actions speak louder than words’ when nurses were motivated by workmates’ actions to change their feelings, thoughts and actions. The concerted efforts can be used to develop educational programmes, management strategies and institutional policy on structure, system and resource utilisation, as well as dissemination of scientific knowledge to global healthcare workers and the public.

The conclusion of this study is that the Qur'an reveals the term education with many terms including al-Tarbiyah, al-Ta'lim, al-Tazkiyah, al-Tadris, al-Tafaquh, al-Ta'aqul, al-Tadabbur, al-Tadzkirah, al-Tafakkur, al-Mau'idza. The purpose of education in Islam wants the formation of a Muslim who has integrity in his personality, the goodness of his speech is also manifested in good behavior, all of which are a reflection of the cleanliness of his heart.
