1. Double Gradient Reversal Network for Single-Source Domain Generalization in Multi-mode Fault Diagnosis

Abstract

Domain generalization achieves fault diagnosis on unseen modes. In process industrial systems, fault samples are limited, and only single-mode fault data can be obtained. Extracting domain-invariant fault features from single-mode data for unseen mode fault diagnosis poses challenges. Existing methods utilize a generator module to simulate samples of unseen modes. However, multi-mode samples contain complex spatiotemporal information, which brings significant difficulties to accurate sample generation. Therefore, double gradient reversal network (DGRN) is proposed. First, the model is pre-trained to acquire fault knowledge from the single seen mode. Then, pseudo-fault feature generation strategy is designed by Adaptive instance normalization, to simulate fault features of unseen mode. The dual adversarial training strategy is created to enhance the diversity of pseudo-fault features, which models unseen modes with significant distribution differences. Subsequently, domain-invariant feature extraction strategy is constructed by contrastive learning and adversarial learning. This strategy extracts common features of faults and helps multi-mode fault diagnosis. Finally, the experiments were conducted on Tennessee Eastman process and continuous stirred-tank reactor. The experiments demonstrate that DGRN achieves high classification accuracy on unseen modes while maintaining a small model size.

Abstract

This paper addresses the challenge of identifying the paths for vessels with operating routes of repetitive paths, partially repetitive paths, and new paths. We propose a spatial clustering approach for labeling the vessel paths by using only position information. We develop a path clustering framework employing two methods: a distance-based path modeling and a likelihood estimation method. The former enhances the accuracy of path clustering through the integration of unsupervised machine learning techniques, while the latter focuses on likelihood-based path modeling and introduces segmentation for a more detailed analysis. The result findings highlight the superior performance and efficiency of the developed approach, as both methods for clustering vessel paths into five classes achieve a perfect F1-score. 3. Unknown Health States Recognition With Collective Decision Based Deep Learning Networks In Predictive Maintenance Applications

Abstract

At present, decision making solutions developed based on deep learning (DL) models have received extensive attention in predictive maintenance (PM) applications along with the rapid improvement of computing power. Relying on the superior properties of shared weights and spatial pooling, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) can learn effective representations of health states from industrial data. Many developed CNN-based schemes, such as advanced CNNs that introduce residual learning and multi-scale learning, have shown good performance in health state recognition tasks under the assumption that all the classes are known. However, these schemes have no ability to deal with new abnormal samples that belong to state classes not part of the training set. In this paper, a collective decision framework for different CNNs is proposed. It is based on a One-vs-Rest network (OVRN) to simultaneously achieve classification of known and unknown health states. OVRN learn state-specific discriminative features and enhance the ability to reject new abnormal samples incorporated to different CNNs. According to the validation results on the public dataset of Tennessee Eastman Process (TEP), the proposed CNN-based decision schemes incorporating OVRN have outstanding recognition ability for samples of unknown heath states, while maintaining satisfactory accuracy on known states. The results show that the new DL framework outperforms conventional CNNs, and the one based on residual and multi-scale learning has the best overall performance.

Abstract

The charge radius of the proton can be determined using two different kinds of experiments: the spectroscopy technique, measuring the hyperfine structure of hydrogen atoms, and the scattering technique, deducing the radius from elastic lepton scattering off a proton target. These two methods lead to quite different results, a discrepancy known as the "proton radius puzzle ". To shed light on this problem, we have proposed a novel method for the determination of spatial moments from densities expressed in the momentum space. This method provides a direct access not only to the second order moment, directly related to the proton radius, but to all moments of any real order larger than -3. The method is applied to the global analysis of proton electric form factor experimental data from Rosenbluth separation and low-$Q^2$ experiments, paying specific attention to the evaluation of the systematic errors. Abstract

The parameterization of the nucleon structure through Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) shed a new light on the nucleon internal dynamics. For its direct interpretation, Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) is the golden channel for GPDs investigation. The DVCS process interferes with the Bethe-Heitler (BH) mechanism to constitute the leading order amplitude of the $eN \to eN\gamma$ process. The study of the $ep\gamma$ reaction with polarized positron and electron beams gives a complete set of unique observables to unravel the different contributions to the $ep \gamma$ cross section. This separates the different reaction amplitudes, providing a direct access to their real and imaginary parts which procures crucial constraints on the model dependences and associated systematic uncertainties on GPDs extraction. The real part of the BH-DVCS interference amplitude is particularly sensitive to the $D$-term which parameterizes the Gravitational Form Factors of the nucleon. The separation of the imaginary parts of the interference and DVCS amplitudes provides insights on possible higher-twist effects. We propose to measure the unpolarized and polarized Beam Charge Asymmetries (BCAs) of the $\vec{e}^{\pm}p \to e^{\pm}p \gamma$ process on an unpolarized hydrogen target with {\tt CLAS12}, using polarized positron and electron beams at 10.6 GeV. The azimuthal and $t$-dependences of the unpolarized and polarized BCAs will be measured over a large $(x_B,Q^2)$ phase space using a 100 day run with a luminosity of 0.66$\times 10^{35}$cm$^{-2}\cdot$s$^{-1}$., Comment: Proposal to the Jefferson Lab Program Advisory Committee (PAC51)

Abstract

A global analysis of proton electric form factor experimental data from Rosenbluth separation and low squared four-momentum transfer experiments is discussed for the evaluation of the spatial moments of the proton charge density based on the recently published integral method~\cite{Hob20}. Specific attention is paid to the evaluation of the systematic errors of the method, particularly the sensitivity to the choice of the mathematical expression of the form factor fitting function. 21. Semileptonic $B \to D^{**}$ decays in Lattice QCD : a feasibility study and first results

Abstract

We compute the decays ${B\to D^\ast_0}$ and ${B\to D^\ast_2}$ with finite masses for the $b$ and $c$ quarks. We first discuss the spectral properties of both the $B$ meson as a function of its momentum and of the $D^\ast_0$ and $D^\ast_2$ at rest. We compute the theoretical formulae leading to the decay amplitudes from the three-point and two-point correlators. We then compute the amplitudes at zero recoil of ${B\to D^\ast_0}$ which turns out not to be vanishing contrary to what happens in the heavy quark limit. This opens a possibility to get a better agreement with experiment. To improve the continuum limit we have added a set of data with smaller lattice spacing. The ${B\to D^\ast_2}$ vanishes at zero recoil and we show a convincing signal but only slightly more than 1 sigma from 0. 24. Recent deep learning models for diagnosis and health monitoring : a review of researches and future challenges

Abstract

As an important branch of machine learning, deep learning (DL) models with multiple hidden layer structures have the ability to extract highly representative features from the input. At present, fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) and health monitoring solutions developed based on DL models have received extensive attention in academia and industry along with the rapid improvement of computing power. Therefore, this paper focuses on a comprehensive review of DL model–based FDD and health monitoring schemes in view of common problems of industrial systems. First, brief theoretical backgrounds of basic DL models are introduced. Then, related publications are discussed about the development of DL and graphical models in the industrial context. Afterwards, public data sets are summarized, which are associated with several research papers. More importantly, suggestions on DL model–based diagnosis and health monitoring solutions and future developments are given. Our work will have a positive impact on the selection and design of FDD solutions based on DL and graphical models in the future. © The Author(s) 2023.

Abstract

The massive deployment of electronic components in various transportation systems has increased the complexity of their embedded networks. Power line communication is a good candidate for reducing cable bundles in these systems. Even if the number of cables is reduced, these cables tend to encounter faults that can lead to total system failure. Therefore, it is critical to design and implement an effective soft fault detection system. In this paper, a Y-shaped network consisting of one source and two receivers is studied. A soft fault, which can be caused by a localized degradation of the cable quality, is represented by a series resistance. The transmission transfer function measured at each receiver is monitored. A new health indicator inspired by the classical cable chain matrix model is proposed. This indicator is calculated at each receiver. A residual based on the calculated indicator is then used along with a pre-constructed topology dependent signature matrix to detect a soft fault and to locate the affected branch. Real data extracted from a test bench are used to validate our approach. The results confirm the ability to use Power Line communication systems for diagnostic purposes in addition to their initial implementation purpose.

Abstract

To sustain growth, maintain competitive advantage and to innovate, companies must make a paradigm shift in which both short- and long-term value aspects are employed to guide their decision-making. Such need is clearly pressing in innovative industries, such as ICT, and is also the core of Value-based Software Engineering (VBSE). The goal of this paper is to detail a framework called VALUE—improving decision-making relating to software-intensive products and services development—and to show its application in practice to a large ICT company in Finland. The VALUE framework includes a mixed-methods approach, as follows: to elicit key stakeholders’ tacit knowledge regarding factors used during a decision-making process, either transcripts from interviews with key stakeholders are analysed and validated in focus group meetings or focus-group meeting(s) are directly applied. These value factors are later used as input to a Web-based tool (Value tool) employed to support decision making. This tool was co-created with four industrial partners in this research via a design science approach that includes several case studies and focus-group meetings. Later, data on key stakeholders’ decisions gathered using the Value tool, plus additional input from key stakeholders, are used, in combination with the Expert-based Knowledge Engineering of Bayesian Network (EKEBN) process, coupled with the weighed sum algorithm (WSA) method, to build and validate a company-specific value estimation model. The application of our proposed framework to a real case, as part of an ongoing collaboration with a large software company (company A), is presented herein. Further, we also provide a detailed example, partially using real data on decisions, of a value estimation Bayesian network (BN) model for company A. This paper presents some empirical results from applying the VALUE Framework to a large ICT company; those relate to eliciting key stakeholders’ tacit knowledge, which is later used as input to a pilot study where these stakeholders employ the Value tool to select features for one of their company’s chief products. The data on decisions obtained from this pilot study is later applied to a detailed example on building a value estimation BN model for company A. We detail a framework—VALUE framework—to be used to help companies improve their value-based decisions and to go a step further and also estimate the overall value of each decision.

38. Preconceptional folic acid supplement use in Lebanon

DESIGN/SETTING/SUBJECTS: The study was a descriptive epidemiological study. Analysis was performed on 5280 deliveries admitted to twelve member hospitals of the National Collaborative Perinatal Neonatal Network during the period September 2003-January 2005. Information on folic acid intake and maternal and neonatal characteristics were obtained from obstetric charts along with direct interviews performed by trained personnel. Logistic regression was performed to determine the predictors of preconceptional folic acid use. RESULTS: The overall use of preconceptional folic acid supplementation was 14.0 % (18.6 % in urban hospitals v. 2.7 % in rural hospitals). Higher socio-economic status, lower parity and having a history of previous spontaneous abortions were significantly associated with preconceptional folic acid use. CONCLUSION: Our study shows that Lebanon currently has a low rate of preconceptional folic acid supplement use. Intervention through the means of awareness campaigns needs to be implemented on a national level.

Abstract

International audience; Objectives: Our aim was to assess if switching from a protease inhibitors (PI)-based regimen to a PI-free one is associated with an increased risk of Kaposi Sarcoma (KS) relapse among patients living with HIV (PLHIV) with history of KS and controlled HIV replication.Methods: In a retrospective analysis of the prospectively collected Dat'AIDS database we selected patients who both had a past KS history and a HIV-1 viral load below 200 copies/mL while being PI-treated. We searched for KS relapses while persistent virological success was maintained for at least 6 months, whether patients kept taking the PI, or switched to PI-free regimen.Results: Among the 216 patients with past KS event and a history of HIV-1 infection efficiently treated by a PI-based regimen, 148 patients (68.5%) later switched to a PI-sparing regimen. Their baseline characteristics were not different from non-switching patients. We described 7 cases of relapse (3.2% of the 216 patients). Five cases of relapse occurred in switching patients (3.4%). The remaining two relapses occurred in PI-treated patients (2.9%). At KS relapse, CD4 cell count was 459 cells/μL (range 225-560) for switching patients, compared with 362 and 136 cells/μL for the other two patients.Conclusions: In this large cohort of PLHIV with a history of KS and ART-controlled HIV replication, KS relapses were described in 3.2% of the patients, and were not more frequent when a PI-containing ART regimen has been switched to a PI-free regimen. Our results do not support a specific effect of PI on KS.

Abstract

Background The arrival of highly effective, well-tolerated, direct-acting antiviral agents (DAA) led to a dramatic decrease in hepatitis C virus (HCV) prevalence. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-HCV–coinfected patients are deemed a priority population for HCV elimination, while a rise in recently acquired HCV infections in men who have sex with men (MSM) has been described. We describe the variations in HIV-HCV epidemiology in the French Dat’AIDS cohort. Methods This was a retrospective analysis of a prospective cohort of persons living with HIV (PLWH) from 2012 to 2018. We determined HCV prevalence, HCV incidence, proportion of viremic patients, treatment uptake, and mortality rate in the full cohort and by HIV risk factors. Results From 2012 to 2018, 50 861 PLWH with a known HCV status were followed up. During the period, HCV prevalence decreased from 15.4% to 13.5%. HCV prevalence among new HIV cases increased from 1.9% to 3.5% in MSM but remained stable in other groups. Recently acquired HCV incidence increased from 0.36/100 person-years to 1.25/100 person-years in MSM. The proportion of viremic patients decreased from 67.0% to 8.9%. MSM became the first group of viremic patients in 2018 (37.9%). Recently acquired hepatitis represented 59.2% of viremic MSM in 2018. DAA treatment uptake increased from 11.4% to 61.5%. More treatments were initiated in MSM in 2018 (41.2%) than in intravenous drug users (35.6%). In MSM, treatment at the acute phase represented 30.0% of treatments in 2018. Conclusions A major shift in HCV epidemiology was observed in PLWH in France from 2012 to 2018, leading to a unique situation in which the major group of HCV transmission in 2018 was MSM. Abstract

International audience; Background - Although antiretroviral therapy (ART) has reduced the risk of Kaposi sarcoma (KS), KS cases still occur in HIV-infected people. Objective - To describe all KS cases observed between 2010 and 2015 in a country with high ART coverage. Methods - Retrospective study using longitudinal data from 44 642 patients in the French Dat'AIDS multicenter cohort. Patients' characteristics were described at KS diagnosis according to ART exposure and to HIV-plasma viral load (HIV-pVL) (≤50 or >50) copies/mL. Results - Among the 209 KS cases diagnosed during the study period, 33.2% occurred in ART naïve patients, 17.3% in ART-experienced patients and 49.5% in patients on ART, of whom 23% for more than 6 months. Among these patients, 24 (11.5%) had HIV-pVL ≤50 cp/mL, and 16 (66%) were treated with a boosted-PI-based regimen. The distribution of KS localization did not differ by ART status nor by year of diagnosis. Limitations - Data on human herpesvirus 8, treatment modalities for KS and response rate were not collected. Conclusion - Half of KS cases observed in the study period occurred in patients not on ART, reflecting the persistence of late HIV diagnosis. Factors associated with KS in patients on ART with HIV-pVL ≤50 cp/mL remain to be explored.
