Abstract

Hydrogen, as an energy carrier, cannot be found in its pure form in nature and must be generated through specific processes to be stored and utilized. The primary methods of producing hydrogen involve electrolyzing water or reforming and gasifying hydrocarbons. Herein, the nature of El‐Oued water on the production of hydrogen by the electrolysis process is investigated experimentally. The experimental work is divided into three parts: 1) the first one of 250 mL of distilled water and potassium oxide (KOH) of (1 mol L−1); 2) the second part of 250 mL of El‐Oued water and potassium oxide (KOH) of (1 mol L−1); and 3) the thrid part of 250 mL of El‐Oued water. The amounts of the produced hydrogen in these scenarios are measured and compared in controlled times. The results insured that the use of El‐Oued water only gives a very few amounts of hydrogen gas in the electrolysis of water. Moreover, distilled water can be replaced by El‐Oued water to produce hydrogen with the same amount of potassium oxide (KOH). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In this paper, the numerical results of the study on geothermal-air heat exchanger in dry areas of Algeria (Ghardaia region) were presented. Computational fluid dynamics equations were solved using our specific code compilated with Fortran. The outputs of the numerical calculations were compared and validated with the experimental results and the outputs of a commercial CFD code. In these conditions, our results present good agreements with an error not exceeding 2%. By using our numerical model, we have calculated the optimum length, the internal diameter, the air velocity of the pipe in winter and summer periods and have determined the optimum depth at different depths. The comparison of two types of pipes making material (PVC and PEHD) has taken into account the characteristics of the Ghardaia-Algeria region (specific heat capacity, density, thermal conductivity and temperature) of the soil. The obtained results proved that the chosen model gives a satisfactory agreement in all the studied variables.
