Aims: This study aimed to improve malnutrition in mice and elderlies with a new dairy/buriti oral dietary supplement. Background: Malnutrition is a prevalent problem in the elderly; therefore, oral dietary supplementation is an important strategy to reduce the incidence of this health problem. Objective: The present study evaluated the effects of a low-cost food supplement, made from by-products of the dairy and fruit industry in the Brazilian Cerrado (Buriti), on the nutritional status and the recovery of the metabolic profile of malnourished animals and elderly women. Methods: In the pre-clinical phase, Swiss mice were divided into six groups and subjected to malnutrition and renutrition. The clinical phase was carried out with 25 elderly women residing at a long-term institution, aged ≥ 65 years and with malnutrition or risk of malnutrition. Results: The analyzes showed improvements in anthropometric parameters and an increase in serum albumin levels, in addition to lipid profile improvement in the preclinical phase and an increase in the red blood cells and hemoglobin in the clinical phase. Conclusion: The supplement based on buriti was able to reverse malnutrition promoting improvements in anthropometric and biochemical parameters.

Background: Malnutrition induced by dietary restriction produces several metabolic changes that affect body weight, the digestive system, and annex organs, including the liver. Malnutrition generates an inflammatory state and increases oxidative stress. The liver is one of the body vital organs, becoming necessary to analyze the impact of food supplementation on the repair of possible changes that may occur in this organ due to malnutrition. Aims: To evaluate the effects of a low-cost supplementation derived from Buriti and dairy byproducts on liver recovery in malnourished mice, focusing on the expression of oxidative stressrelated genes, as well as biochemical and histological parameters. Methods: Swiss mice were divided into six groups and submitted to two treatment phases: food restriction, for malnutrition onset; and renutrition, with mice being fed with different diets. Results: Our results indicate that dietary supplementation was successful in recovering liver damage caused by malnutrition in animal models. The new supplement has been shown to recover liver damage with similar or superior results compared to the commercial reference supplement on the market. Conclusion: Our work presents a new composition of low cost food supplement based on buriti and dairy by-products, proven to be effective in the malnutrition treatment of malnutrition. The improvements were proven through the recovery of body weight, reduction of inflammation and oxidative stress.

Background and aims Adequate nutrition during infectious outbreaks require a personal management strategy, especially when there are emotional factors involved. To evaluate the association between lifestyle and emotional aspects of food consumption during the pandemic COVID-19. Methods and results Cross-sectional study using online self-applied questionnaire with 15,372 active schoolteachers who worked in primary education (kindergarten, elementary and high school) from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Poisson Regression model with robust variance was used to determine the association between lifestyle and emotional aspects and food consumption. Greater adherence to the healthy consumption profile showed a statistically significant association with decreased weight (PR= 1.58; p= 0.000), decreased physical activity (PR= 1.27; p= 0.000), reduced income, (PR= 1.26; p= 0.000), reduced alcohol consumption (PR= 1.22; p= 0.000), and changes in mental health (PR= 1.19; p= 0.000). Unhealthy consumption profile was significantly correlated with weight gain (PR= 1.54; p= 0.000), consuming more alcohol, or started drinking during the pandemic (PR= 1.44; p= 0.000), increased physical activity (PR= 1.43; p = 0.000); increased cigarette consumption (PR= 1.17; p= 0.000), and being a younger adult (PR= 1.17; p= 0.000) Conclusions: the COVID-19 pandemic influenced the food profiles of basic education teachers in the Minas Gerais state education system in a bidirectional manner, favoring the practice of consuming healthy or unhealthy foods.

The present study aimed to analyze changes in food consumption among teachers of state schools in Minas Gerais in the context of the pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This is a cross-sectional study of teachers at elementary, middle, and high schools in Minas Gerais. An online questionnaire was made available to all participants through the Google Forms platform. For the analysis, sociodemographic, economic, occupational profile, health conditions, and behavioral/habitual variables were used. Food consumption was assessed through the weekly frequency of eating foods considered healthy and unhealthy before and during the pandemic. The changes observed in the frequency were classified as: decreased intake, no change in intake, and increased intake during the pandemic. Statistical analysis was performed using bivariate and multiple analysis using the Multinomial Logistics Regression model. The data were tabulated with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), version 18.0. A total of 15,641 teachers participated in this study, with an average age of 42.96 (±9.27) years, and most of them were female (81.9%). During the pandemic, approximately 40% reported altered sleep quality and alcohol consumption, and lack of physical activity with 60.4% of the professionals categorized as overweight. During this period, there was an increase in the consumption of sweets (19.5%), soft drinks (13.3%), sausages (12.0%), frozen foods (8.9%), salty foods (6.3%), vegetables (13.1%), fruits (12.6%), and wholegrain products (8.3%). In the regression analysis, several factors were found to be associated with changes in teachers' food consumption in a bidirectional way when associated with variables related to sociodemographic characteristics, occupational profile, general health, and lifestyle.

Objetivo: compreender a depressão na terceira idade, o perfil e o processo de prevenção e tratamento dos sinais e sintomas. Metodologia: a revisão integrativa de literatura foi feita utilizando as bases: Biblioteca Virtual da Saúde (BVS): Sistema Latino Americano e do Caribe de informação em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo). Foram escolhidos os estudos científicos publicados nos últimos 10 anos, epublicados na íntegra, no período de 2007 a 2017. Foram utilizados os seguintes termos: “Depressão em idosos”; “Sintomas de Depressão”; “Prevenção da Depressão” e “Tratamento da Depressão”. Resultados: após confrontarmos os resultados encontrados com a revisão da literatura que a depressão no idoso é um dos transtornos psiquiátricos mais frequentes. Acredita-se que conforme o aumento da idade, mais sintomas depressivos são apresentados, através das queixas intensificadas de doenças e a presença do quadro de ansiedade. Para melhor qualidade o idoso necessita ter conhecimento sobre sua condição e as doenças que podem lhe acometer, o que a auxilia na promoção da própria saúde, reduzindo o sofrimento. Contribuindo para o envelhecimento ativo, tornando-a participativa na sociedade, onde demonstra autonomia sobre a própria velhice. Considerações finais: evidenciou-se a partir da literatura que existe a necessidade de agir de modo preventivo, junto aos idosos, é premente. A prática e o desenvolvimento de atividades de lazer têm-se mostrado na vida dos idosos como um fator de grande importância. O lazer contribui para um melhor estado de espírito e no caso dos mais idosos, diminui os efeitos decorrentes do processo de envelhecimento. Objective: to understand depression in the elderly, the profile and the process of prevention and treatment of signs and symptoms. Methodology: integrative literature review was done using the bases: Virtual Health Library (VHL): Latin American and Caribbean System of information in Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo). At the end of the search, the scientific studies published in the last 10 years, published in full, between 2007 and 2017 were selected. The following terms were used: "Depression in the elderly"; "Symptoms of Depression"; "Prevention of Depression" and "Treatment of Depression". Results: after comparing the results found with the literature review that depression in the elderly is one of the most frequent psychiatric disorders. It is believed that as the age increases, more depressive symptoms are presented, through intensified complaints of illness and the presence of anxiety. For better quality the elderly need to know about their condition and the diseases that can affect him, which helps him to promote his own health, reducing suffering. Contributing to active aging, making it participatory in society, where it demonstrates autonomy over one's own old age. Final considerations: it has been evidenced from the literature that there is a need to act in a preventive way, together with the elderly, it is urgent. The practice and development of leisure activities have been shown in the lives of the elderly as a factor of great importance. Leisure contributes to a better state of mind and, in the case of the elderly, reduces the effects of the aging process.

The study aimed to portray the menstrual cycle relating it to premenstrual syndrome, to anthropometry and to feedingbehavior aspects. Anthropometric and dietary intake assessments were conducted on follicular and luteal phases of themenstrual cycle. Premenstrual symptoms were investigated through an outlined journal. Forty students, with a mean ageof 22.57 ± 1.97 years were assessed. It was not attested any differences in weight between the two phases (p > 0.05). However,a higher waist circumference (p=0.021) and a higher body fat percentage (p = 0.019) were noticed during the lutealphase. An excessive ingestion of sweets (p=0.020), chocolate (p=0.029), diet soft drinks (p=0.009) and coffee (p < 0.001)was also noted in this phase, despite the similarity in the macro and micronutrient consumption. It was concluded thatchanges in body composition and food behavior and more severe symptoms occur on the luteal phase of the menstrualcycle indicating the importance of nutritional counseling.

Objetivo: Ponderar a tromboprofilaxia medicamentosa aplicada a pacientes clínicos de alto risco através da literatura. Metodologia: A Revisão integrativa de literatura realizada na Biblioteca Virtual da Saúde (BVS): Sistema Latino Americano e do Caribe de informação em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo). Foram selecionados estudos científicos publicados nos últimos 10 anos, estudos na íntegra, cuja publicação atenda ao período de 2007 a 2017. Foram utilizados os seguintes termos: “Tromboembolia venosa”, “Tromboprofilaxia”, “Hospitalização”. Resultados: Após confrontarmos os resultados encontrados com a revisão da literatura observamos que existe uma ocorrência frequente do tromboembolismo venoso em pacientes idosos, como um tipo de complicação tromboembólica em decorrência do tempo no leito, falta de deambulação, também pode acometer pacientes em pós-operatórios submetidos à cirurgia bariátrica, maior frequência em laparotomias, cirurgias pélvicas femininas e operações de grande magnitude, em que o primeiro sintoma foi a embolia pulmonar. A prevenção primária é essencial, e desta forma, a tromboprofilaxia assume papel de destaque no cenário hospitalar, como método de prevenção de agravos. Considerações finais: O Tromboembolismo venoso é uma condição secundária da hospitalização cuja manifestação pode ser considerada como potencialmente grave, resultante de alterações da estase venosa e sanguínea nos chamados estados de hipercoagulabilidade. A identificação preventiva e pela aplicação de medidas farmacológicas ou métodos físicos mecânicos, devem ser individualizadas e adequadas de acordo com características específicas de cada paciente evidenciando a importância da equipe multidisciplinar aumentando a possibilidade de sobrevida dos pacientes.
