Abstract

CONTEXT: Thanks to the wide use of diagnostic imaging modalities, multiple primary malignancies are being diagnosed more frequently and different associations of malignancies have been reported in this setting. CASE REPORT: In this paper, we describe the case of a patient with non-functioning well-differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma of the head of the pancreas associated with extra-hepatic cholangiocarcinoma, in which an early diagnosis using magnetic resonance imaging allowed a good outcome. CONCLUSION: The simultaneous association of neuroendocrine pancreatic tumors and cholangiocarcinoma has not yet been described; however, this association should be considered and, due to the high contrast of magnetic resonance imaging, this technique is recommended in such patient in order to reach an accurate diagnosis.

Abstract

Unfortunately, the current perception of Chemistry held by many students and the general public alike appears to be in stark contrast to its true nature. Although chemistry is ubiquitous in all aspects of our daily lives it continues to be perceived as highly theoretical and of little relevance. A clearer understanding of the fundamental Nature of Chemistry will be needed if students are to recognize its true importance and character. It is not possible to fully understand, and as a consequence accept on an intuitive basis, the 'mystery' and fascinations arising from the transformation of matter, without first adopting a convincing sub-microscopic view, able to connect observed macroscopic properties to the behaviours of atoms and molecules. Insightful use of models and computer generated visualization techniques now offer a way forward, but only once the learning difficulties being encountered by students have been fully appreciated by their university lecturers.

Abstract

This paper details the design and implementation of a modulator-less beam steering transmitter based on a revised DDS-PLL phase shifter architecture. The proposed topology targets low data rate communications for Internet-of-Things systems, and has been demonstrated using an FPGA evaluation board and a custom PCB with four PLLs centered at 2.453-GHz. Measured system performance for an experimental 32-kbps data rate achieved through a 16-PSK modulation scheme are discussed. The proposed architecture is frequency independent, can be used in multi-band devices and has the potential for being integrated as an RF System-on-Chip. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A high-Q bandpass biquad filter operating at 18GHz is proposed. It is based on an active parallel resonator and it is suitable for MMIC implementation. A prototype has been implement ed using the Philips ED02AH PHEMT foundry process. A quality factor of 120 at 18GHz with a current consumption of 5mA @ 2V bias has been reported.

Abstract

In this paper a GaAs MMIC phase shifter, based on a lumped quadrature hybrid, is described. The MMIC makes use of two interleaved spiral inductors in a transformer-like configuration to implement the quadrature coupler function. Two L-C resonant networks connected as load, provide the desired analog phase swing, under electronic control thus resulting a phase-shift capability of nearly 180°.
