To evaluate the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic's impact on pregnancy outcomes in a Japanese rural area.This retrospective study focused on the periods between March 1, 2020, and February 28, 2021 (during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic), and January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2019. Singleton pregnancies delivered at or after 22 gestational weeks were included. Preterm delivery, low-birth-weight, and small-for-gestational-age infant rates during the pandemic were compared to those in the preceding 3 years.In the pandemic and control groups, 1650 and 5762 pregnant women were included, respectively. Two pregnant women with coronavirus disease 2019 were identified (0.1%). There were no significant intergroup differences in preterm delivery rates (control, 4% vs. pandemic, 3.3%; difference: -0.7% [95% confidence interval: -1.7%-0.3%], p = 0.22). The low-birth-weight rate tended to decrease; however, the difference was insignificant (7.9% vs. 6.5%; difference: -1.4% [95% confidence interval: -2.8-0%], p = 0.06). The small-for-gestational-age infant rate was significantly lower in the pandemic than in the control group (7.3% vs. 5.2%; difference: -2.1% [95% confidence interval: -3.3-0.8%], p 0.01). However, the interrupted time series analysis showed no significant trend.There were no significant changes in the rates of preterm delivery, low-birth-weight infants, and small-for-gestational-age infants during the pandemic's first year compared to those in the preceding 3 years. Behavioral changes, such as "stay-at-home" measures, may not improve pregnancy outcomes in Japan.

The proportion of women who experience a depressive state after delivery differs between primiparas and multiparas, so it is important to clarify the different factors related to depression between the two groups. In this study, we confirmed the differences in depressive states, the perinatal period, and social support between primiparas and multiparas, and clarified their characteristics. Data were extracted from a prospective cohort questionnaire survey conducted on pregnant women in Japan that included sociodemographic questions, the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, and the Japanese version of the Social Support Questionnaire. We carried out the chi-square test, Student’s t-test, and analysis of covariance to compare responses between primiparas and multiparas. A total of 1138 primiparas and 380 multiparas provided valid responses. We found that primiparas had higher rates of experiencing maternity blues and postpartum depression than multiparas. We also found that primiparas had higher anxiety scores than multiparas. Primiparas with postpartum depression perceived a lower number of persons available to provide social support than primiparas without postpartum depression. These findings suggest that it is important to provide pregnant women, especially for primiparas, with information that allows them to increase the number of people who can provide them with support.

Although intranasal oxytocin is expected to be a novel therapy for the core symptoms of autism spectrum disorder, which has currently no approved medication, the efficacy of repeated administrations was inconsistent, suggesting that the optimal dose for a single administration of oxytocin is not optimal for repeated administration. The current double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre, crossover trial (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03466671) was aimed to test the effect of TTA-121, a new formulation of intranasal oxytocin spray with an enhanced bioavailability (3.6 times higher than Syntocinon® spray, as assessed by area under the concentration–time curve in rabbit brains), which enabled us to test a wide range of multiple doses, on autism spectrum disorder core symptoms and to determine the dose–response relationship. Four-week administrations of TTA-121, at low dose once per day (3 U/day), low dose twice per day (6 U/day), high dose once per day (10 U/day), or high dose twice per day (20 U/day), and 4-week placebo were administered in a crossover manner. The primary outcome was the mean difference in the reciprocity score (range: 0–14, higher values represent worse outcomes) on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule between the baseline and end point of each administration period. This trial with two administration periods and eight groups was conducted at seven university hospitals in Japan, enrolling adult males with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder. Enrolment began from June 2018 and ended December 2019. Follow-up ended March 2020. Of 109 males with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder who were randomized, 103 completed the trial. The smallest P-value, judged as the dose–response relationship, was the contrast with the peak at TTA-121 6 U/day, with inverted U-shape for both the full analysis set (P = 0.182) and per protocol set (P = 0.073). The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule reciprocity score, the primary outcome, was reduced in the TTA-121 6 U/day administration period compared with the placebo (full analysis set: P = 0.118, mean difference = −0.5; 95% CI: −1.1 to 0.1; per protocol set: P = 0.012, mean difference = −0.8; 95% CI: −1.3 to −0.2). The per protocol set was the analysis target population, consisting of all full analysis set participants except those who deviated from the protocol. Most dropouts from the full analysis set to the per protocol set occurred because of poor adherence to the test drug (9 of 12 in the first period and 8 of 15 in the second period). None of the secondary clinical and behavioural outcomes were significantly improved with the TTA-121 compared with the placebo in the full analysis set. A novel intranasal spray of oxytocin with enhanced bioavailability enabled us to test a wide range of multiple doses, revealing an inverted U-shape dose–response curve, with the peak at a dose that was lower than expected from previous studies. The efficacy of TTA-121 shown in the current exploratory study should be verified in a future large-scale, parallel-group trial.

Early detection of perinatal depression is an urgent issue. Our study aimed to examine the construct validity and factor structure of the Japanese version of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) from a prospective cohort study from pregnancy to postpartum. A total of 1075 women completed all items of the EPDS at four time points: early pregnancy, late pregnancy, 5 days postpartum and 1 month postpartum. The participants were randomly divided into two sample sets. The first sample set (n = 304) was used for exploratory factor analysis, and the second sample set (n = 771) was used for confirmatory factor analysis. As a result, the Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of the EPDS items were 0.762, 0.740, 0.765 and 0.772 at the four time points. From the confirmatory factor analysis of the EPDS in a sample set of Japanese women from pregnancy to postpartum, the following three factors were detected: depression (items 7, 9), anxiety (items 4, 5) and anhedonia (items 1, 2). In conclusion, the EPDS is a useful rating scale, and its factor structure is consistently stable during the whole peripartum period.

Background Although previous studies have reported associations between bonding failure, depression, social support among mothers, and perceived rearing, the causal relationships remain unclear. Methods A total of 855 women (mean age, 32.4 ± 4.4 years) completed the Mother-Infant Bonding Questionnaire (MIBQ), the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), the Japanese version of the Social Support Questionnaire, and the Parental Bonding Instrument in early pregnancy before week 25 (T1) and at 1 month after delivery (T2). We created a path model to clarify the causal relationships between perinatal bonding failure, depression, social support, and perceived rearing during pregnancy and at 1 month after delivery. The model was tested using structural equation modeling. Results Our recursive model showed acceptable fit (chi-squared statistic/degree of freedom = 2.1, comparative fit index = 0.98, root mean square error of approximation = 0.04). It was revealed that: (1) at T1, higher overprotection significantly predicted MIBQ scores; (2) at T1, poorer social support significantly predicted both MIBQ and EPDS scores; and (3) at T1, both MIBQ and EPDS scores significantly predicted respective scores at T2. Conclusions These results showed that bonding failure in the postpartum period was significantly influenced by mothers' own perceived rearing and social support during pregnancy. In addition, depression in the postpartum period was strongly influenced by social support during pregnancy. These findings suggest that psychosocial interventions that focus on both mothers' recollections of their own upbringing and social support during pregnancy are effective for preventing bonding failure and depression in the postpartum period.

In this proceeding paper, we introduce the recent results of Galactic maser astrometry by mainly focusing on those obtained with Japanese VLBI array VERA. So far we have obtained parallaxes for 86 sources including preliminary results, and combination with the data obtained with VLBA/BeSSeL provides astrometric results for 159 sources. With these most updated results we conduct preliminary determinations of Galactic fundamental parameters, obtaining R0 = 8.16 ± 0.26 kpc and Θ0 = 237 ± 8 km/s. We also derive the rotation curve of the Milky Way Galaxy and confirm the previous results that the rotation curve is fairly flat between 5 kpc and 16 kpc, while a remarkable deviation is seen toward the Galactic center region. In addition to the results on the Galactic structure, we also present brief overviews on other science topics related to masers conducted with VERA, and also discuss the future prospect of the project.

Aim Although the association between maternal depression and bonding failure during pregnancy and after delivery has been investigated, the causal relationships remain unclear. Methods A total of 751 women (mean [SD] age, 32.1 [4.4] years) completed the Mother–Infant Bonding Questionnaire and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale during early pregnancy before week 25 (T1), during late pregnancy around week 36 (T2), and at 5 days after delivery (T3). We created a structural regression model to clarify the relationships between depressive mood and bonding failure during pregnancy and at 5 days after delivery. The model was tested with structural equation modeling. Results Our non-recursive model fit the data well, and we found that: (i) during T2, bonding failure predicted depressive mood (P < 0.01, r = 0.23); (ii) at T3, bonding failure predicted depressive mood (P < 0.05, r = 0.31); (iii) during T1, depressive mood was correlated with bonding failure (P < 0.01, r = 0.45); (iv) depressive mood during T1 predicted depressive mood during T2 (P < 0.01, r = 0.58); (v) depressive mood during T2 predicted depressive mood at T3 (P < 0.01, r = 0.45); (vi) bonding failure during T1 predicted bonding failure during T2 (P < 0.01, r = 0.84); and (vii) bonding failure during T2 predicted bonding failure at T3 (P < 0.01, r = 0.44). The determinant coefficients of depressive mood and bonding failure at T3 were 0.41 and 0.28, respectively. Conclusion Our large-scale cohort study indicates that bonding failure predicts depressive mood during pregnancy and 5 days after delivery. These findings suggest that protection and support for pregnant women with depressive mood and bonding failure may prevent both issues during pregnancy and the early stage after delivery.

We present the first astrometry catalog from the Japanese VLBI (very long baseline interferometer) project VERA (VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry). We have compiled all the astrometry results from VERA, providing accurate trigonometric annual parallax and proper motion measurements. In total, 99 maser sources are listed in the VERA catalog. Among them, 21 maser sources are newly reported while the rest of 78 sources are referred to previously published results or those in preparation for forthcoming papers. The accuracy in the VERA astrometry are revisited and compared with those from the other VLBI astrometry projects such as BeSSeL (The Bar and Spiral Structure Legacy) Survey and GOBELINS (the Gould's Belt Distances Survey) with the VLBA (Very Long Baseline Array). We have confirmed that most of the astrometry results are consistent with each other, and the largest error sources are due to source structure of the maser features and their rapid variation, along with the systematic calibration errors and different analysis methods. Combined with the BeSSeL results, we estimate the up-to-date fundamental Galactic parameter of $R_{0}=7.92\pm0.16_{\rm{stat.}}\pm0.3_{\rm{sys.}}$~kpc and $\Omega_{\odot}=30.17\pm0.27_{\rm{stat.}}\pm0.3_{\rm{sys.}}$~km~s$^{-1}$~kpc$^{-1}$, where $R_{0}$ and $\Omega_{\odot}$ are the distance from the Sun to the Galactic center and the Sun's angular velocity of the Galactic circular rotation, respectively., Comment: 35 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in the Publications of the Astronomical Society of Japan

Majority of head and neck cancer (HNC) patients are male, and more than 85% of patients with HNC have the habit of smoking and drinking. Due to the specific demographic characteristics, HNC patients are anticipated to have specific coping styles, affecting psychological distress, survival, and quality of life. We explored the subscales of the Mental Adjustment to Cancer (MAC) Scale in male patients with HNC, and then examined the correlation between revised subscales of the MAC scale and anxiety/depression. Participants were 150 male inpatients with HNC, and their demographic and medical data were obtained. Coping style was assessed by MAC scale. Anxiety and depression were assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Out of 40 items in the original MAC scale, 19 items were excluded by factor analysis, and the remaining 21 items were divided into three factors: Negative Adjustment, Positive Adjustment, and Abandonment. Negative and Positive Adjustments were similar to the copings of mixed gender patients with heterogeneous cancers, and Abandonment was a new subscale specific to male patients with HNC. This subscale had a weak positive correlation with anxiety and depression. Male HNC patients revealed a specific coping style of Abandonment, related with psychological distress. We believe that an understanding of the Abandonment coping style revealed in our study will improve the psychological support offered to male patients with HNC.

Background Postpartum depression (PPD) is a major depressive disorder that occurs after childbirth. Objective diagnostic and predictive methods for PPD are important for early detection and appropriate intervention. DNA methylation has been recognized as a potential biomarker for major depressive disorder. In this study, we used methylation analysis and peripheral blood to search for biomarkers that could to lead to the development a predictive method for PPD. Methods Study participants included 36 pregnant women (18 cases and 18 controls determined after childbirth). Genome-wide DNA methylation profiles were obtained by analysis with an Infinium Human Methylation 450BeadChip. The association of DNA methylation status at each DNA methylation site with PPD was assessed using linear regression analysis. We also conducted functional enrichment analysis of PPD using The Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery 6.8 to explore enriched functional-related gene groups for PPD. Results In the analysis with postpartum depressed state as an independent variable, the difference in methylation frequency between the postpartum non-depressed group and the postpartum depressed group was small, and sites with genome-wide significant differences were not confirmed. After analysis by The Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery 6.8, we revealed four gene ontology terms, including axon guidance, related to postpartum depression. Conclusions These findings may help with the development of an objective predictive method for PPD. We present a case of uterine trauma and intrauterine fetal death caused by seatbelt injury. A 37-year-old primigravida at gestational week 24 was involved in a single-car accident when traveling as a front-seat passenger and wearing a three-point seatbelt. Fetal heart rate monitoring patterns revealed fetal demise, and computed tomography revealed intraperitoneal bleeding due to damage to the uterine vessels and placental lacerations across the seatbelt-compressed region. Intensive treatment, including transfusion therapy and surgical laparotomy, prevented the loss of her life but not that of the fetus. Seatbelt use can reduce the overall mortality associated with motor vehicle crashes. Pregnant women must be educated on the proper use of restraints while traveling in motor vehicles.

This study aimed to assess the situation of postpartum depression and maternal bonding in Nagoya, a city distant from the epicenter of the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011. Among the participants at 1 month after childbirth between March 11, 2010 and March 10, 2013 (n = 188), 152 fully responded to the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and Mother–Infant Bonding Questionnaire (MIBQ). They were divided into pre-quake (n = 58), and 0–6, 6–12, 12–18, and 18–24 months after the earthquake groups (n = 20, 26, 29, and 19, respectively). The rate of mothers who scored above the cutoff point for the EPDS increased from 12.1% in the pre-quake to 35.0% in the 0–6 months group (p = 0.022). The EPDS total and anxiety subscale scores (mean ± standard error) were also significantly different between the pre-quake and 0–6 months after the earthquake groups (4.45 ± 0.50 vs. 7.95 ± 1.47, p = 0.024; 2.16 ± 0.26 vs. 3.65 ± 0.57, p = 0.021, respectively). The EPDS total and anxiety scores were the highest for the 0–6 months group, followed by the 6–12, 12–18, 18–24 months groups (p = 0.019, p = 0.022). MIBQ scores did not differ between the pre-quake and 0–6 months groups. Depressive symptoms, mainly explained by anxiety, increased after the earthquake with no changes in maternal bonding.

Background: The Highs scale has been developed to evaluate hypomanic symptoms in the first postpartum week. However, it has not been elucidated whether this scale is also applicable to pregnant women. To address this issue, we confirmed the factor structure, reliability, and validity of the Japanese version of the Highs scale for pregnant and postpartum women. Methods: 418 women provided effective responses to both the Highs scale and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) during early pregnancy (before week 25), late pregnancy (around week 36), at 5 days and at 1 month after delivery. Subjects were randomly divided into two groups, and exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were performed for each group. Cronbach's alpha was calculated and the correlation of the Highs scale with EPDS was analyzed. The correlation between the subscales was analyzed at four time points, and the correlation of subscales between the four time points was confirmed. Results: This scale was found to have the two-factor structure with elation and agitation subscales. The two subscales had reasonable internal consistency at all time points (Cronbach's alpha range: Factor 1, 0.696-0.758; Factor 2, 0.553-0.694). The overall scale had reasonable internal consistency at all time points (Cronbach's alpha range: 0.672-0.738). Based on the correlation analysis of the two subscales and EPDS, discriminative and convergent validity were indicated at all time points, confirming the construct validity of the Highs scale. Subscale scores showed a significant correlation with EPDS at all time points (r = 0.388, 0.384, 0.498, and 0.442, p < 0.01). Conclusions: The Japanese version of the Highs scale is reliable and valid, and can be applied for evaluating the hypomanic symptoms during pregnancy and postpartum period.

We report a case of marked elevation of the procalcitonin level in umbilical blood and neonatal blood at birth. The mother did not perceive fetal motion. Antepartum fetal heart rate monitoring showed a loss of variability and absence of acceleration. No fetal breathing movement, fetal movement, or fetal tone were observed by ultrasonography. The female neonate was delivered by cesarean section at 25 weeks of gestation, with birthweight 774 g. The umbilical arterial pH value at birth was 7.29. Mild elevation in interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α in umbilical blood were observed. Cytochrome c showed a high level in umbilical and neonatal blood at birth. Placental histopathology revealed multiple fetal vessel thrombosis in the large stem villi and chorionic vessels. The neonate showed no infectious signs throughout the neonatal period. Computed tomography at 3 months of age revealed atrophy in the cerebrum and cerebellum. At 1 year after birth, the infant showed spastic quadriplegia. In this case, antepartum asphyxia due to fetal vessel thrombosis may have influenced the elevation of procalcitonin level in umbilical blood and neonatal blood at birth.

Causal relationships between perinatal bonding failure, depression, and social support among mothers remain unclear. A total of 494 women (mean age 32.4 ± 4.5 years) completed the Mother-Infant Bonding Questionnaire (MIBQ), the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), and the Japanese version of the Social Support Questionnaire in early pregnancy before week 25 (T1) and 1 month after delivery (T2). Our model of recursive structured equation modeling (SEM) showed acceptable fit (CMIN/df = 2.2, CFI = 0.97, and RMSEA = 0.05). It was revealed that: (1) a lower number of supportive persons at T1 significantly predicted both MIBQ and EPDS scores at T1 and T2; (2) at T1, poorer satisfaction with the social support received significantly predicted EPDS scores; (3) both MIBQ and EPDS scores at T1 significantly predicted their respective scores at T2. Out cohort study indicates that the number of individuals who are available to provide social support and the degree of satisfaction with the level of social support received during pregnancy have a great influence on bonding failure and depression in the postpartum period. These findings suggest that psychosocial interventions that focus on these two aspects of social support during pregnancy are effective in preventing bonding failure and depression in the postpartum period.

Glossodynia is chronic pain localized around the tongue, with no perceivable organic abnormalities. In the fields of oral and maxillofacial surgery, it is categorized as an oral psychosomatic disease. In contrast, psychiatric nosology classifies glossodynia as a pain disorder among somatoform disorders, per the DSM-IV. The patient was a 71-year-old woman who developed symptoms of glossodynia, specifically a sore tongue. In the decade before she presented to us, she had had bizarre symptoms of oral cenesthopathy such as the sensation that her teeth had become ‘limp and floppy’ and that she needles in her mouth. Treatment was attempted using several psychotropic drugs, but no satisfactory response was noted. Because the patient was referred to our outpatient clinic, we tried psychotropic therapy again. Additionally, valproic acid, tandospirone and sertraline were administered (in this order), but the patient still showed no response. However, when sertraline was changed to milnacipran, all symptoms disappeared in a short period. We suggest that a small dose of milnacipran can be effective for controlling oral cenesthopathy as well as glossodynia.

Recently a new method to discover obscured active galactic nuclei (AGNs) by utilizing X-ray and Infrared data has been developed. We carried out a survey of H2O maser emission toward ten obscured AGNs with the Nobeyama 45-m telescope. We newly detected the maser emission with the signal-noise-ratio (SNR) of above 4 from two AGNs, NGC 1402 and NGC 7738. We also found a tentative detection with its SNR > 3 in NGC 5037. The detection rate of 20% is higher than those of previous surveys (usually several percents)., 5 pages, 1 figures, 3 tables, accepted for publication in PASJ

We will report the activities of the VERA single-dish observations. We are carrying out single-dish observations with two purposes. The first purpose is the monitoring of known H2O maser sources. At present, we are carrying out monitoring observations for 312 H2O maser sources at intervals of two months. The second purpose is the search for new water maser sources. We selected 901 target sources from the AKARI FIS Bright Source Catalogue. We found 61 new H2O maser sources.

We report first on two-epoch mapping observations of SiO v = 3 J = 1–0 maser emission in the semiregular variable W Hydrae using the Japanese VLBI Network. The flux density of the v = 3 J = 1–0 emission detected on 2009 February 28 was two orders of magnitude smaller than those of the v = 1a ndv = 2 emissions, while a month and half later the v = 3 flux density suddenly increased by a factor of � 25. In contrast, the v = 1a ndv = 2fl ux densities decreased during this period, as expected from the optical light curve. At the first epoch, the v = 3 maser features were located inside of a ring composed of the v = 1a ndv = 2 features by 6 mas (& 0.5 AU) toward the central star. These offsets are meaningfully larger than the error of the fitted ring radius and the difference in the ring sizes of v = 1a ndv = 2 masers (. 0.2 AU). The present result at the first epoch suggests that v = 3 J = 1–0 SiO masers are predominantly excited in a pumping mechanism (e.g., collisional pumping) different from that recently proposed on the basis of the line overlap with infrared H2O lines. Interestingly, the second-epoch observation revealed that the v = 3 features were located on almost the same ring as the v = 2 ring, which is consistent with what line-overlap theory suggests.

We measured the 220 GHz atmospheric-transparency at the Dome Fuji station in Antarctica from 18 December 2006 to 14 January 2007 using a tipping radiometer. The mean optical depth at zenith was 0.045 ± 0.007, and during 98% of this period we measured an optical depth of less than 0.06. These data indicate that the atmospheric-transparency in summer at Dome Fuji is comparable to that of well-known submillimeter astronomical sites such as the Atacama desert in Chile in their best seasons.

We present a study of H2O maser emission from the LINER, IC 1481, based on single-dish and highly sensitive VLBI observations. The Nobeyama 45-m telescope detected new maser features near the systemic velocity and blue-shifted by 124–205 km s � 1 . In addition, the known features red-shifted by � 97–155 km s � 1 were monitored. VLBI observations with the High Sensitivity Array (HSA) revealed that the maser features are distributed along a line, with a velocity gradient, strongly suggesting a nearly edge-on molecular gas disk. The radius and thickness of the disk are r = 2.8–14.0 pc and 2H = 1.5–4.2 pc, respectively, which are the largest among the maser disks detected in active galactic nuclei. The disk is rotating at Vrot = 124–168 km s � 1 , having a large velocity dispersion of 4V � 31 km s � 1 . The rotation curve of the disk is sub-Keplerian (Vrot / r � 0:19˙0:04 ), indicating a massive disk. #

Background The Mother-Infant Bonding Questionnaire (MIBQ) has been widely used to assess maternal emotional involvement with infants. Although the reliability and validity of the MIBQ in the postpartum period has been confirmed, it remains unclear whether the MIBQ is appropriate to assess maternal bonding in both pregnancy and the postpartum period over time. Our study were aimed to 1) examine the reliability and validity of the MIBQ for clinical use among pregnant and postpartum women; and 2) examine the factor structure of the items, create subscales, and confirm the stability of the MIBQ in the pregnancy and postpartum periods. Methods Participants (n = 751, mean age 32.1 ± 4.4 years) completed the MIBQ and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) in early pregnancy (before week 25), in late pregnancy (around week 36), 5 days after delivery, and 1 month after delivery. We randomly divided participants into two sample sets. We conducted an exploratory factor analysis of the nine MIBQ items using data from one group of mothers (Group 1; n = 376) in all four periods. The factor structure derived from the exploratory factor analysis was confirmed by a confirmatory factor analysis in the second group (Group 2; n = 375) of mothers in all four periods. Results Exploratory factor analysis yielded two factors: Lack of Affection (LA) and Anger and Rejection (AR). Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated that LA and AR factors existed for the MIBQ in all periods. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were 0.879 and 0.584, respectively. The scores for LA and AR were significantly correlated over the four time periods. Mothers with higher AR scores on the MIBQ at any of the four periods had higher scores on the EPDS. Conclusions The MIBQ has two subscales regardless of the timing of the assessment. The MIBQ is appropriate for pregnant as well as postpartum women to assess maternal bonding toward the fetus and infant.

We monitored the velocitiesof high-velocity features for a H2O megamaser, NGC 4258, using the 45-m telescope of the Nobeyama Radio Observatory. The spiral shock model of maser disks predicts that the red-shifted features of observed maser spectra decelerate and the blue-shifted features accelerate for trailing arms. To confirm this model, we measured the velocity drift rates. Using the data of 1992–2005, the drift rate was detected to be a = −0.036 ±0.007kms −1 yr −1 on the average for 10 red-shifted features. The drift rate of a blue-shifted feature was a =0 .20 ±0.10kms −1 yr −1 . These results are consistent with a prediction of the spiral shock model. The pitch angles of the spirals were obtained to be θp =2 ◦ ±1 ◦ on the average for the red-shifted features and θp =1 3 ◦ ±7 ◦

We present the results of the radio observations of the afterglow of GRB 030329 with the Nobeyama 45-m telescope. The observations were made at 23.5 GHz, 43 GHz, and 90 GHz. The light curves show steep decline after constant phase. The start time of the decline depends on frequency. Namely, the decline started earlier at higher frequency. The spectrum has a peak at mm wavelength range. The peak frequency and the peak flux decreased with time. We report a case of marked elevation of the procalcitonin level in umbilical blood and neonatal blood at birth. The mother did not perceive fetal motion. Antepartum fetal heart rate monitoring showed a loss of variability and absence of acceleration. No fetal breathing movement, fetal movement, or fetal tone were observed by ultrasonography. The female neonate was delivered by cesarean section at 25 weeks of gestation, with birthweight 774 g. The umbilical arterial pH value at birth was 7.29. Mild elevation in interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α in umbilical blood were observed. Cytochrome c showed a high level in umbilical and neonatal blood at birth. Placental histopathology revealed multiple fetal vessel thrombosis in the large stem villi and chorionic vessels. The neonate showed no infectious signs throughout the neonatal period. Computed tomography at 3 months of age revealed atrophy in the cerebrum and cerebellum. At 1 year after birth, the infant showed spastic quadriplegia. In this case, antepartum asphyxia due to fetal vessel thrombosis may have influenced the elevation of procalcitonin level in umbilical blood and neonatal blood at birth.

We report on a flare-up of water-vapor maser emission in a prototypical ultraluminous FIR galaxy with an AGN, NGC 6240. The flux density of the detected maser line was≈ 0.1Jy with FWHM ≈ 5kms−1, indicating an apparent isotropic luminosity of ≈ 100L at a distance of 100 Mpc, which is typical for water megamasers. The maser line was redshifted by ≈ 200kms−1 relative to the systemic velocity of the galaxy, while no systemic-velocity feature was detected. The previous possible detection or observed upper limits were at a level lower than the flux density in the present paper, indicating that the water maser in NGC 6240 flared up by more than a factor of 5 in 2001.

We present the results of ammonia observations toward the center of NGC 3079. The NH3(J, K) = (1, 1) and (2, 2) inversion lines were detected in absorption with the Tsukuba 32-m telescope, and the NH3(1,1) through (6,6) lines with the VLA, although the profile of NH3(3,3) was in emission in contrast to the other transitions. The background continuum source, whose flux density was ~50 mJy, could not be resolved with the VLA beam of ~< 0."09 x 0."08. All ammonia absorption lines have two distinct velocity components: one is at the systemic velocity and the other is blueshifted, and both components are aligned along the nuclear jets. For the systemic components, the relatively low temperature gas is extended more than the high temperature gas. The blueshifted NH3(3,3) emission can be regarded as ammonia masers associated with shocks by strong winds probably from newly formed massive stars or supernova explosions in dense clouds in the nuclear megamaser disk. Using para-NH3(1,1), (2,2), (4,4) and (5,5) lines with VLA, we derived the rotational temperature Trot = 120 +- 12 K and 157 +- 19 K for the systemic and blueshifted components, respectively. The total column densities of NH3(0,0)-(6,6), assuming Tex ~Trot, were (8.85+-0.70) x 10^16 cm^-2 and (4.47+-0.78) x 10^16 cm-2 for the systemic and blueshifted components, respectively. The fractional abundance of NH3 relative to molecular hydrogen H2 for the systemic and blueshifted was [NH3]/[H2]=1.3x10^-7 and 6.5 x 10^-8, respectively. We also found the F = 4-4 and F = 5-5 doublet lines of OH 2{Pi}3/2 J = 9/2 in absorption, which could be fitted by two velocity components, systemic and redshifted components. The rotational temperature of OH was estimated to be Trot,OH >~ 175 K, tracing hot gas associated with the interaction of the fast nuclear outflow with dense molecular material around the nucleus., 25 pages, 9 figures, Accepted for publication in PASJ

We conducted a high-sensitivity radio detection survey for forty narrow-line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) galaxies using very-long-baseline interferometry (VLBI) at 22 GHz through phase-referencing long-time integration and using a newly developing recorder with a data rate of 8 Gbps, which is a candidate of the next generation VLBI data recording systems for the Japanese VLBI Network. The baseline sensitivity was typically a few mJy. The observations resulted in a detection rate of 12/40 for our radio-selected NLS1 sample; 11 out of the detected 12 NLS1s showed inverted radio spectra between 1.4 and 22 GHz on the basis of the Very Large Array flux densities and the VLBI detections. These high fractions suggest that a compact radio core with a high brightness temperature is frequently associated with NLS1 nuclei. On the other hand, at least half of the sample indicated apparently steep spectra even with the limited VLBI sensitivity. Both the inverted and steep spectrum radio sources are included in the NLS1 population.

We used maternal immunoglobulin M (IgM), immunoglobulin G (IgG) avidity index (AI) and fetal ultrasonography (US) to effectively detect a congenital cytomegalovirus-infected fetus that would suffer neurological sequelae after birth.The detecting method was prospectively adapted to 1163 unselected pregnant women. IgM, IgG and IgG-AI were measured at the first prenatal examination (10.8±2.2 weeks of gestation). Advanced US was performed for the IgM-positive women at our center. The urine of 1163 neonates was examined via PCR. All infected neonates were followed for neurological development.Most women (83.3%) were seropositive. Among them, 40 (4.1%) were IgM positive. Nine of forty (22.5%) had low AI, of which one showed abnormal US and suffered severe sequelae. The remaining eight had a normal US; however, one infant had hearing impairment. There were another three infected infants with normal development. Their mothers' serological results were: IgM positive with high AI (n=1); IgG positive; IgM negative with high AI (n=1); and both IgG and IgM negative (n=1).This method enabled us to detect infected fetuses having severe sequelae. However, the problem remains of detecting infected fetuses that only have a hearing impairment.

Objective:Malignancy-related thromboembolism, also referred to as Trousseau's syndrome, can present as acute cerebral infarction, nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE), and migratory thrombophlebitis. Therefore, many physical, neurological, and psychological symptoms associated with Trousseau's syndrome may occur in the clinical course.Method:To illustrate this, we report a case of a male patient in his 50s with carcinomatous peritonitis caused by gastric cancer, with multiple cerebral infractions that developed during disease progression. The patient was admitted to our hospital for the treatment of side effects of chemotherapy, although he strongly hoped to go home as soon as possible. In addition to making social supports plans, we were required to perform intensive total palliative care, because of his physical pain, general fatigue, anorexia, abdominal and neck pain, and psychological issues (insomnia, delirium, depression, suicidal thoughts, self-mutilation, panic attacks, agoraphobia, fear of death, and feelings of hopelessness).Results:To the best of our knowledge, based on the literature search, this is the first reported case of Trousseau's syndrome described in the context of total palliative care, especially psychological care.Significance of results:We propose that neurological symptoms of Trousseau's syndrome cause these extensive mental disorders. Furthermore, because of the prognosis of Trousseau's syndrome, we should utilize our expertise fulfill the patient's wishes.

We present the results of single-dish and VLBI observations for the water-vapor masers at the nucleus of the Seyfert 2, IC 2560. We monitored velocities of the maser features with the 45-m telescope of the Nobeyama Radio Observatory. Using the data of 1995--2006, the velocity drift rate was detected to be a = +2.57 +/- 0.04 km/s/yr on the average for 6 systemic features. The Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) with the Very Large Array (VLA) firstly detected a red-shifted and a blue-shifted maser features of IC 2560, in addition to systemic maser features and a continuum component. We propose a maser disk in the nuclear region. The systemic and red-shifted features are emitted from a nearly edge-on disk with the position angle of PA = -46 deg, which is almost perpendicular to the galactic disk. Assuming the Keplerian rotation, the radii of the maser disk are r = 0.087--0.335 pc, and the thickness is 2H, 17 pages, 7 figures, 5 tables, accepted for publication in PASJ

We have made multi-epoch VLBI observations of H2O maser emission in the massive star forming region IRAS 06061+2151 with the Japanese VLBI network (JVN) from 2005 May to 2007 October. The detected maser features are distributed within an 1\arcsec$\times$1\arcsec (2000 au$\times$2000 au at the source position) around the ultra-compact H {\small\bf II} region seen in radio continuum emission. Their bipolar morphology and expanding motion traced through their relative proper motions indicate that they are excited by an energetic bipolar outflow. Our three-dimensional model fitting has shown that the maser kinematical structure in IRAS 06061+2151 is able to be explained by a biconical outflow with a large opening angle ($>$ 50\degr). The position angle of the flow major axis coincides very well with that of the large scale jet seen in 2.1$\:��\rmn{m}$ hydrogen emission. This maser geometry indicates the existence of dual structures composed of a collimated jet and a less collimated massive molecular flow. We have also detected a large velocity gradient in the southern maser group. This can be explained by a very small (on a scale of several tens of au) and clumpy (the density contrast by an order of magnitude or more) structure of the parental cloud.
